Planet Fitness; overall a joke, or maybe a meme, but functional enough to get a decent workout. This particular pf is my favorite in the Cleveland area, and stacks up against any I've been to in other states. Clean, friendly staff, open space, well organized, big locker room, generally not too crowded ... I can't say too much negative about this particular planet fitness. On the other hand, this company's philosophy is absurd and kind of embarrassing. The most obvious thing is the ridiculous slogans and sayings posted all over the purple laden walls. On one hand they preach no "gymtimidation", while on the other call serious lifters by pejoratives, such as "lunkhead". Seriously, it sounds like we are one step from kicking someone out for being too muscular. Wish I were kidding. Some of this nonsense would be tolerable if they actually encouraged proper gym etiquette. Doing sets right in front of the dumbell rack, hoarding weight/workout stations for long periods of time and not allowing people to work in would get you mocked and worse at a real gym. The lack of free weights is also a thing that has me thinking about going elsewhere often. I could rant for a long time, but the last annoyance I will mention is their blatant promotion of unhealthy lifestyles. Why on earth would a fitness company have tootsie rolls at the counter ? Or pizza and donut day ? They have stopped that, at least at this one, since the bad flu season we had a whileback, but still an interesting ethos for a place supposedly supporting health. I got a membership just for the treadmills. I can always get on one and run for an hour. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. I don't use the extras or a lot of the equipment....I run to beat my depression. And for that I am very happy. read more

Wish the locker room showers were a little nicer, they're not much different than the showers you'll find at campgrounds. But still very clean. Clientele is pretty laid back and it's not at all intimidating. I mean, of course you're going to have a meat head here and there, this is true with any gym. But it is mostly not meat heads. I have never been to a Planet Fitness before, but I was thinking about joining since my friend goes to one and we could workout together (yay workout buddies!). Besides, only $10 a month? I could definitely do that and not feel bad when I don't go (let's be real, some of us like to hibernate in the winter). So I decide to join my friend one night for a trial visit. You know check out the gym: get info from the staff, try the machines, see if it's a place I'd like to sign up for a membership. We walk in one night around 6:30ish, immediately I notice that there are dozens of pizza boxes sitting out. Um wtf is pizza doing at a gym? Apparently it was member appreciation pizza party night or something, I don't understand this, but whatever. So we go up to the counter and my friend is like "hey I'm a member and I have a friend who would like to try out the gym before signing up". Reception desk girl is like "do you have the upgraded membership where you can bring a guest? No? Okay, then it's $20 for a day pass." UMMMM what kind of bad business is this? It's night time and I am clearly out of shape, at the max I will be here an hour and you want to charge me $20 to try your gym? Memberships start at $10! This makes absolutely no sense! Now I am no gym rat by any means, but the couple I have joined over the years always had trial periods for free. They were more than happy to show you around and let you workout. And guess what? Every single time I signed that year long contract! So a big "Hella No" happen and we left. The YMCA now has my money. I don't care about unnecessary frills like cancer causing tanning beds, cheap pizza, or alarms that go off if you grunt too hard lifting weights. I care about customer service and good business practices. The YMCA has that. They also have swimming pools, basketball courts, tvs in the cardio machines, free wifi, a variety of classes you can take, and I checked this all out for FREE before signing up. So I say bypass Planet Fitness, spend the extra money to join the Y where the focus truly is about the community and building healthier happier you. (After reading some other reviews, I'd like to add that the Y does not mistakenly put extra charges on your credit card like Planet Fitness). Listen, I'm not some cheap jerk, I would not have minded spending $5 to try them out. That's reasonable. And yeah my bad for not checking their website, but $20 was not expected at all especially when my friend has had joined Planet Fitness in different cities/states in the past and never had to pay anything for her first visit. read more

Went Sunday with a friend (her to sign up) me already a member and workout. No one at desk, the man working strolls up with a teaspoon of Peanut butter. We explain what we want, he says no she can't sign up because computers are down and she can't even work out with me (after I agreed to upgrade to black membership) so she could. The PF in Brookpark was very accommodating ( got her membership) and let me workout. Thank you Jamie! What happened to customer first Peanut butter man! You lost my respect. Wow, don't understand the haters here. This place is busy. This is a good thing. It means it won't be going out of business any time soon (unlike it's former competitor a few doors down). So don't be shocked when the lot is almost full from 4-8 pm during the week. Be happy. Cardio-wise there are tons of machines here. As noted by others, they are on top of each other. From a business perspective I can understand that, but would prefer a little more space between them. The cable machines I would like to have more options for leg workouts, but that's just me. Free weights area is kind of on the small side and the abs area could be doubled in size. Other amenities like massage chairs are excellent. Locker area is fairly large, and they have ADA accessible showers. Staff, especially Allison, are always upbeat and friendly. read more

This Planet Fitness location in Parma, Ohio has the worst staff. We have been with planet fitness for 3 plus years and transferred away from this location once because the staff. We tried it again and new terrible staff. The staff does not watch the circuit room and people come hang out on machines instead of following the circuit. Tonight we went and signed up to use the tanning bed. Black card members for now. I went in the bed and it stopped after 4 1/2 minutes. My wife waited for her bed. Nobody was on the sheet ahead of her. When I came out she told me the staff let someone else go in front of her that was not on the sign up sheet. Looking for a new club in the am. I guess they could care less about the 52.00 a month we have paid them for 3 plus years. Be careful before going to Parma, Ohio planet fitness. We are done. read more

You get what you pay for. Every Planet Fitness needs to be evaluated individually, since their management and their amenities can vary substantially. Still, I would only recommend this place if money is extremely tight. It may seem like a bargain, but the limitations of this place would severely hinder anyone who's serious about becoming healthy. The weight selection is very limited and would not allow the user to effectively perform the most useful, most efficient exercises for beginners to get into shape (barbell squats, deadlifts, bench presses, etc.) They do have a Smith machine, but this is a poor substitute that vastly less effective and that forces one's joints to move in unhealthy ways. To their credit, while most of the machines that they have are very limited in their effectiveness, they do have a few cable machines, which are better than non-cable devices in helping to build general strength. That's one plus that's worth mentioning. Ultimately though, the rules and restrictions at Planet Fitness make for less effective, less time-efficient workouts. Like all PF locations, they have rules against certain highly effective exercises (e.g. deadlifts) simply because certain members might find them "intimidating" to watch. They also have the infamous "lunk alarm" -- a blaring siren that goes off if somebody is caught grunting lightly, even though this is the natural result of putting in extra-hard effort. So yes, it may be cheap, but this is a case where cheaper isn't better. read more

Freaken packed!!!! Kinda diggin' this place! It's right behind Parma(ghost)town kinda next to the Fox and Hound so prolly 15 minutes from my house. Not so bad right? usually the parking lot is PACKED and you start to worry that you will neither find a spot or the machine you want to work on... Fear not my fellow doughblob because Planet Fitness is HUGE!!!! HUGE I say!!!!!! With rows and rows of machines it's been pretty easy to get right into a sweat and I like that. Most of the machines have an Ipod/Iphone plug in and that saves on battery life. There is also an interface that you can change the volume, station, song ect on your phone and that is a real convenience. Oh bonus? January special is $10 a month no contract!!! Maybe I am jaded by my regular Planet Fitness location, but this place was amazing! It wasn't packed either day, the equipment was all in great shape, and it was huge. Super disappointed in Planet Fitness. I changed banks around the time the shut down happened and with COVID and switching to work from home I completely forgot about my gym membership. Planet Fitness attempted to draft my old account and then cancelled my membership after billing me for 3 months and the annual membership fee. This cam out to $87.84 and they will not allow me to rejoin or start a new membership without paying this past due balance. read more

Clean, friendly, affordable with plenty of options and recently updated machines. My wife and I have been going to this gym right around the opening several years ago. We see members of all ages and it's refreshing that so many people are choosing to have a proactive approach to their health. The staff are always polite and helpful. The manager TIM is friendly and approachable. ZACH the trainer is nice and also energetic, which is what you want in a trainer. KURT has been very helpful and polite. He's given us some exercise tips when we've asked. I've also seen him stop multiple times in the middle of rearranging machines to help other gym members with questions or providing advice. It's nice to know there's a great staff backing this place. The facility itself is always clean and you feel that when you walk in. Equipment is well organized and there's different zones for working out based on what you want to do. Plenty of options and space. I don't use the tanning beds, hydro massage or massage chairs so I can't speak to them, but they seem helpful to those who use them. There's also showers in the restrooms. On the flip side, it can get quite busy during peak hours, but that's why they're called peak hours. I'd also like to see heavier dumbbells and a free weight bar, but that would probably encourage more of an raw weight lifting atmosphere that they are trying to defend against. Which is understandable given their mission for a judgement free area. Overall, solid gym and staff that I can trust. Gym works well for all your basics and then some. If you're into lifting heavy like Olympic style or CrossFit, a gym with options geared toward that would better suit you. If not, then this gym is for you. A side note. With the newly updated cardio machines, they added two rowers. I started rowing and it's a great workout! read more

I use to love going there, but it seems like they over sold the membership. So crowded. I like to do kettlebells not really any space to do them when its crowded without hitting someone. People don't wipe off equipment and the staff doesn't seem to care. In the free weights area you will have some dude taking up two areas and them not wipe down after use. read more

I've wavered between a 2-star and 3-star review for a while, but have decided to go with the 3-star for now. Pros: 1) The staff here has always been exceptionally friendly and helpful. Most of them say hello and goodbye, they're cheerful, they talk to members, and they're regularly cleaning the gym. One was quick to fix an erroneous charge on my credit card and was pleasant when doing so. 2) There are a great number of cardio machines and weight machines. Even when it gets super busy on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, I can still find a way to get in a good workout. 3) The price is right. For $10 or $20 a month, you can meet your basic fitness needs. 4) They've finally installed a water fountain that fills water bottles. Yay! 5) The 30-minute circuit area and 12-minute ab area are great features if you need to get a workout in quickly. Cons: 1) The hours on the weekends are crap. If a Planet Fitness in Brunswick can manage to be open 24/7, one would think a location closer to the city could, as well. It's not always possible to get in before 7 on the weekends. 2) This is not, in any way, shape, or form, a judgment-free zone. I literally had a girl in the locker room refer to me as a beached whale in front of my face. You can hear people talking about other members all the time. The bros douse themselves in ungodly amounts of Axe to the point where you have to avoid them if you want to breathe. (There are, however, many people who are kind, warm, and welcoming...but you know, one bad apple...) 3) Some of the equipment needs attention. Most of the stationary bikes are missing their foot straps, several of the ellipticals are missing the rubber piece that holds water bottles (I've seen so many people get on them and pop in their water bottles only to have them fall straight to the floor), some of the arc trainers and ellipticals click or wobble so much that they're basically unusable. 4) They charge $20 for a one-day pass. I think this might be a general Planet Fitness "rule" but both in Brunswick and my former New York location, a brand new guest would always be allowed one free visit to check out the place. I brought a guest tonight and when we were told it would be $20 to work out for one night, she was basically turned off forever at the thought of joining. Your monthly membership is $10...so you charge $20 for a day pass? I realize that the incentive is just for people to sign up for a year, but if your policy turns away people from the get go, it doesn't seem to make much sense. But seriously, everyone, stop with the cologne/perfume. It's a gym; I'd rather you stank if it means the rest of us can breathe! read more

I enjoy going here. I don't interact with the staff because there's no need for me to. I go in, work out, and leave. I have noticed and other people noticed a big difference in my muscle tone! I am very happy i have had my pass for over a year. I will have this be my gym wherever i go as long as there's a planet fitness. For the people who say this place sucks it's really them who suck. They keep the big huge guys who wanna lift super heavy weights out so people feel more comfortable. It's worth 10 a month read more

Time for an updated review... Place continues to be clean which is a plus. Some of the employees here are taking this whole lunk alarm thing way too seriously! I mean come on! Its a gym! Some of us come here to push ourselves as much as we can.. Yes sometimes the weights are a bit heavy and cannot be lightly placed back down... but it gets a bit ridiculous when you hear the weights being placed back in the rack and an employee sounds off the lunk alarm... I mean come on.. Really? And now a days there really is no set time for rush hour! I came at 8:30 PM one night and it was packed.. I believe it was a Monday night... I was just shocked at how packed it was... And those tanning beds were not clean.. they said they cleaned it but ladies and gents if you use their tanning beds I suggest you clean it with the paper towels and spray bottle they have supplied people outside of the beds to make sure you don't catch anything... I liked it here but the staff are not really helpful. I wanted upgrade my card to the black card because I was in Willoughby and my mother wanted to work out with me. I called and asked how to do it. Sarah told me I had to drive back to Parma 45 minutes to upgrade my card (incorrectly information) i didn't want to do that in the middle of rush hour. After explaining how far I am from this location she kept insisting this was the only way and there was nothing she can do. So I asked if I could do it online since that is how I signed up for planet fitness in the first place then she says " oh yeah I forgot to tell you that you can do it like that." She also told me I was billed this month so my changes to my account will not happen to next month. Billing due dates are the 17 not the 14 according to Tim the manager. Wrong information again. Tuesday I came to workout and was told by the location I went to with my mom that when I go to my home gym to let them know I need a upgraded card. I went in scanned my card and let Katie know I need a new card she asked why. I told her my card is upgraded. She must have been having a bad day because she scanned the card and left it on the counter and stepped back no words or anything. I wasn't sure if that was it so I just put the new card on my keychain and I think she could tell I was confused but I just walked away. Now I have two key cards not sure if the other one still works or not. I called today because I seen the charge hit my bank account when I spoke to Sarah she said I was already billed . Tim confirmed the billing dates are the 17th not 14 then proceeded to tell me maybe I misunderstood or Sarah misunderstood the question. It's hard to misunderstand "When is the next billing date"? Which I was told "you were already billed this month. So then he says well maybe you misunderstood. Sir it's not rocket science it's not difficult to understand a answer to a question you asked. Instead of saying hey my employee gave you the wrong information sorry you act as if the customer didn't understand. Work on your customer service skills. Update ** District manager was very apologetic and understood the issue. Mark you are a perfect example of what a manager should be and how to handle situations. read more

Planet Fitness is fairly decent. Lots of cardio equipment, which is great. They have limited amount of dumbbells, which could deter some people from going. The cleanliness of the location changes depending on the day and time. But overall it is ok from a cleanliness standpoint. Weekday nights are very very busy as well as weekend afternoons. Thus, avoid going during those times if possible. The staff is always friendly and professional. My biggest complaint is the lunk alarm. By far the most annoying thing ever! read more

This planet fitness is clean and has an excellent atmosphere. The tanning beds are up to date and super clean! I finally feel comfortable tanning and not worrying about dirty beds. The equipment is very clean and perfectly placed. I love the variety of machines, and the staff is always so upbeat and sweet. Everyone seems to have something negative to say about PF, but for $20 a month, you can bring a guest everytime, tan regularly, and enjoy the perks! read more

Always crowded, rude front desk. Closed tanning beds at 600pm even though they are open till 700pm on Sundays. You get what you pay for.

o.k. so I fee the need to update I know I should have done this before. I did call the corporate number and they did apologize for the behavior of the employees there not asking me if I was ok. Also they did have the manager of that location call me and he also was very empathetic and apologize for the way the employees reacted to me. We did have a long discussion on the situation and he did seem very concerned about the whole ordeal. He also gave me I think it was 2 free monthes of service, which I did not ask for but it was a very nice gesture. I still go there and see those employees and they never say hi to me or by to me , which is fine with me I guess. I know that the management does care what happens to its customers. And the facility is good for me at this point right now. I would still highly recommend going there and being a customer there. read more

When your yr is up you have to go up there and cancel your membership or they continue to charge you, they dont notify you that your yr is up. Had a membership for about year before I cancelled it. This is definitely not a judgement free zone. I felt more uncomfortable here than I did at any other gym I've gone to. Don't expect to get help from any of the male employees unless you're a really hot girl with big boobs wearing her bra. The female employees always act like they have the hardest job in the world and they don't want to be bothered with you. I used the tanning and I would try to ask questions about the beds and the staff would roll their eyes and act like I was ruining their day. It's a pretty big gym, but there was still always a wait to use a lot of the equipment. It might be super cheap, but it's not worth it. This place is a joke. It's not even a gym. It's just a place with less than average amenities. They create an environment that allows you to feel okay with being unhealthy and out of shape. For years now I have been going to the Planet Fitness in Parma and Brookpark, for working out and tanning. This past month when I have been going there I contracted a highly contagious fungal infection of the skin also know as RINGWORM, from their tanning bed. I was very professional about the situation, emailed them waited for a call and voiced what happened to me. The manager of the one location passed the information onto the regional manager. When he called me he told me that there is no way I got it from them because they "clean everything" and they would not be doing anything about my situation because it was not his problem and I got it from somewhere else. He was very rude about the whole situation. I explained to him that the location of the rash and that there was no other place I would be exposed in that area. He continued to call me wrong. I am not one to complain about thing on Facebook like this, but this had to be known and addressed to all my friends. That place is not clean, and I am incredible upset/disgusted that I got RINGWORM from this place. THIS IS NOT OKAY. Mined you I had to pay over $70 for the ointment to treat it... read more

I was a member here for a while, and it was great when I worked night shift and came on oddball hours. (On that note, the limited weekend hours were frustrating. Sometimes I wanted to work out on Friday night. Wasn't happening) I tan and the beds here are comparable to the deluxe ones that they charge extra for at tanning salons. Lots of equipment, but the cardio machines are extremely close together. Not a problem if it's not busy but it sucks when it's packed and you are sandwiched between a dude who sprayed a whole can of axe on before working out and a woman who did not put on deodorant. Once my work hours changed, I was only able to come during "peak" time, which is from about 4 pm-10pm. During that time tanning waits can be 2 hours or more. Waits for strength training equipment are ridiculous and you have idiots that just sit on a machine playing with their phone completely oblivious to the line of people waiting to use it. Usually no wait for cardio even when busy, but that is when you end up being right next to someone else. I like a little bit of space. I left for a 24/7 smaller gym by my house and found another tanning salon. It costs more but is worth it to not have to deal with the crowds. read more

Location is great. Why no wifi? Most gyms in the area have wifi. Such an inexpensive cost to gain members. Planet Fitness in Garfield has wifi but this one does not. Also, does anyone oil the machines? All the machines could use some oil. The machines end up breaking and they take FOREVER to get them fixed. read more
