This operation runs on theft, lies, and willful negligence. Jim Page -- CEO, Planet Fitness (Taymax, St. Augustine) bears responsibility. He approves the playbook. Chris Powell -- Club Manager -- enforces it. Kenneth Abernathy -- Area Manager -- enables it. They permit a trainer identified only as "James" to prey on paying members with total impunity. Here's what they do, in plain language: * They invent and enforce fake policies to trick members and steal personal information. * They lie to customers to manipulate memberships and conceal the truth. * They let unqualified trainers "manage" paying members and access sensitive financial data. * Management lies about staff roles to hide who's actually in charge. * Management covers up fraud by training staff instead of reporting it. * They actively conceal information that should be public by law. * They put customer financial information at risk by giving access to people who have no business having it. * They flagrantly disregard both company policy and federal consumer protections. Chris Powell refused to give James's full name when asked so the member could file a complaint -- and kept James on staff anyway. That's not an oversight. It's a conscious choice to protect predators and preserve the scheme. Ethics, legal compliance, and member safety are evidently not on the priority list. There is an employee that works there that lied about me "not using the facilities" and hanging out in the parking lot for three hours. She called the cops and when I went in and asked her to pull up my account so she could see I was in fact in there for over an hour she lied and said she couldn't. Aside from this horrible person all of the machines are old and it is constantly overcrowded. I do not recommend. read more

Such a huge place that even if you go at a busy time, you should be able to get to what you need. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Everyone seems to have respect for cleaning after use of any machine or area. There are plenty of TVs on a variety of stations to keep your mind occupied and it makes the exercising go fast! read more

I really like working out at planet fitness and you can't beat the cost. The only issue is because it's so reasonable to be a member... it is packed! The only thing I don't like is there needs to be more room in the area of the dumbbells and benches. There's not enough space and not enough benches regardless of when you go in. I'm a member of a Planet Fitness in another state and I came to the Saint Augustine Planet Fitness on vacation and brought a guest. Both times I was at this gym the stench of body odor was terrible. I was never greeted when I arrived or left. There were always at least two people at the desk just chatting with each other. There was no one on the gym floor cleaning any machines. They won't let you pay with any means but your bank account info . There claim is so it's easier for you to stay on track . Credit cards work just as good and you can have your credit card stop payment when you don't go or quit . They want to bilk another month from you or charge fees . They make you quit at the one you Signed up at as your home club . Transparent bs once you allow out going funds from checking account it's harder to stop them from taken money out . Went here for a year, staff is extremely nice, go at good times and its somewhat sparse. I hate the payment scheme and threw a fit and had issues quitting, but the female manager (dont remember the name its been almost a year) called and fixed the issues for me after i sent an email, and remained extremely professional. Actually I'm very disappointed at you and your business ethics!! I called to cancel my membership since I am a caregiver and haven't been in over a year due to Covid. I have to pay someone to sit at the house for me to drop of a note with my name and date of birth to cancel. They would not accept a email or make any exceptions. I spoke to Austin whom did what he could but when asked to speak to the manager I was told NO. Kiara was to busy to speak to me!! Nice customer service...... I do not recommend membership at this location or under this management. I have been to the club on at least four occasions to formally request cancellation of my membership. The General Manager wasn't there once. Conveniently the staff hadn't been trained to cancel a membership. These cons have continued to charge me regular and late fees month after month despite my multiple in-person requests to cancel. Now I've contacted regional, corporate, and legal services. What other option do I have? Don't get scammed. The gym overall has everything you need, but cleanliness feels subpar. read more

What can I say a gym is a gym but I love the fact that it's clean and well kept. I love the 24/7 hours tho I only like to go in the mornings but it gives me options. They seem to have enough machines to handle the crowd. What I don't like is that they don't have cardio classes like Zumba or spin and no sauna. They do offer a session with a Personal Trainer but the meeting I had wasn't worth the time. I didn't learn anything new and the trainer seemed to be rushing thru it. This gym is clean, utilitarian, and low pressure. The staff are friendly and helpful. Classes are all included and the 30 minute circuit is a great way to make sure you hit all your muscle groups if you're either new to the gym or coming back after some time off... Lots of cardio machines and all the regular weight stuff for peeps that know what they're doing. If you're a black card member(still less than $25 a month), there's a great lounge area with a red light therapy room, hydro massage and chair massage, and tanning beds... all included in your membership. read more

Nice gym, clean, friendly staff however I have one major comcern. When I come to the gym I like to watch news when I work out. Only news channel that runs (cable) through out the day is Fox News. I have asked the staff ( 3) and they say it's corporate policy to only show Fox News. So I wrote corporate and they said it's not their policy and it's a franchised gym and privately owed. I know this area is conservative however, please show other cable news to get the whole story. Or don't show News at all. To show one side of the story regardless of the side is what non democracy countries do. Be open minded and challenge your convictions. I do as I watch and read all news sources including Fox. For first two years as member, taking a shower was a joke 30 secs. Of hot water and done. They built new facility on 207 and hot water service is completely out, a year after they open. It has been out for over a week and not expected operating for another week. They advertise jealthy environment, how with no hot h20 to clean with. Does mgt. Not have money to fix , and what else is effected. Cleaning, of machines, rest rooms, etc. This is health hazard for all and they do not tell you until you gho to restrooms. Wow. Nice gym in a nice area with lots of parking. I really liked the black card area the nicest I've seen at PF. Great chairs in the TV rooms and the massage chair,beds were great. The gym and locker rooms were clean plus all the equipment worked. No complaints read more

I have worked out at 6 different planet fitness gyms while traveling. This is the worst. The equipment and facilities are older than the others, however I found them clean and functional. A staff member came over and stated I was lowering the weights to fast on a cable machine making too much noise. Hey , this is a gym NOT a library, and I know what the lunk alarm is for and I wasn't dropping the weights. The person was being too strict with the rules! The atmosphere is dull and not upbeat like other gyms. If you're a gym rat I doubt you'll like this gym. I didn't. I must compliment one staff member "Sara" she was very friendly and welcoming when I signed in . I wish the other staff members were more like her there might be more stars. read more

They make you wear a mask in between machines even if you have a medical issue. In between machines when your heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate should elevate to compensate is unhealthy for certain conditions and can lead to fainting. Supposed to be a no judgment zone for people who struggle with things like this. read more

I've been a gym rat for about 40 of my 57 years. Very dedicated and usually will stay a member of a gym that I like for years. I visited this gym and did the free 24 hours to work out offer and really liked this location. I went sign up permanently and was told they no longer take credit cards and require "checking account and routing number". Per the new owner the only way to join is to give them access to my checking account so they can withdraw cash directly from my bank??? INSANE!!!. Good luck with that business model. Plenty of gyms in St Augustine people. Stay away from this one or any business that wants direct access to your checking account. read more

The only good thing about this gym, is the cost. If you can afford something better go for it? They have ruined what a GYM is. Their rules are so ridiculous. Their latest pet peeve is no gym bags on the exercise floor. Seriously, they are concerned someone will trip over your bag. Now one must ask when is the last time that anyone was hurt in a gym from tripping over a gym bag? They cater to the senior population, and never take into consideration that letting this older crowd onto an exercise floor without supervision is far more hazardous than a gym bag. The layout of this gym is just awful. I was forced to workout in a crowded tiny space next to the garbage can because I was told I couldn't use free weights in the "stretching area". There was no one in the "stretching area" yet I had to squeeze myself into their designated weight section. I was doing a combination circuit workout where only a few of the moves involved lifting weights. They need to rethink their space. They don't have enough equipment and the space certainly isn't conducive to a busy gym. Second, the front desk staff barely acknowledges your presence when you walk through the door.
