You get what you pay for. Equipment breaks and stays broken for months and months. And instead of fixing or replacing them, after a year they just remove it. Often they break because if wear and tear because it's people's favorite machines. Instead of buying more and having multiple of those favorites they just remove them completely. Made the mistake of doing my work out at this location today. I rarely take showers at any of their locations but the entire shower area here was filthy. To make matters worse no soap is provided in any of the shower stalls so if you don't bring your own you're out of luck. Before Covid all of the planet fitness locations offered soap dispensers in each of the showers. I can't imagine what taking them away has anything to do with COVID-19 but there you have it. Even the dressing rooms were filthy. Attached are pictures of my shower wall with long hair plastered to it, the dressing room stall where even the plastic chair was filthy and the floor area between the dressing rooms and the showers. Heard a lot about Planet Fitness, mostly cons, but with the price point of this gym, I decided to give it a shot anyway. All I need is to go in, get my workout done, and leave, don't need anything too fancy. I have been at this gym for about a month now. The place itself is in a convenient little shopping center with a big parking lot so no issues there. Had a bit of a problem with the initial sign up/membership though. I first signed up online for the basic membership which was $10.70. They asked for my checking account number as well as a credit card. Gave them both and was charged...on both accounts. Tried calling into Planet Fitness customer service number on the website, three times. Never got a phone call back after a left a message, nor did I ever get a person on the phone anyway. Had to go dispute the charge to get the $10.70 back. Eventually I wanted to upgrade to the black card membership so I'm able to use other Planet Fitness gyms near me but wasn't able to do that online. Called this gym and was told they can't do that over the phone, I had to come in for it. It was a little irritating since I couldn't make it there for another day or two since it was on the weekends and I'm nowhere near the area on those days. I work in Budd Lake so it's convenient to come here after work. The staff here is nice, haven't had any issues with them. When I come around 5 ish, it is quite crowded but expected. My biggest issue with this place is the free weights section. They are NEVER in order, they are always scattered around. Sometimes I'll find one 20lb weight and can't find the other, only to look for it and find it in the 55lb area. Also, there are no benches for the bench press area, you would need to drag one over which then TAKES AWAY FROM PEOPLE WHO NEED THE BENCH IN FRONT OF THE MIRROR. Sorry, just thinking about how many times I couldn't get a bench there frustrates me quite a bit. The place is full of cardio machines, as in rows and rows of treadmills etc. There are some machines for your arms/legs/abs. but not a huge variety. They also have tanning and massage chairs? That's interesting I guess. There are signs all over about a no intimidation or no judgement zone, which I think is quite hypocritical considering they have a huge "lunk alarm" sign in the front. Never heard it go off yet but still. I think that's more of my issue with Planet Fitness itself, not this location. They also have pizza Mondays and Bagel Tuesdays? Lol...alrighty then. Anyway, this gym itself is okay. A little disorganized and lack of equipment, but for the price, it's not a huge deal. read more

Planet fitness is really an amazing deal besides the hidden fees that they may or may not tell you about now. The price is unbeatable. It will cost you 150 a year for the basic membership, undercutting other gyms in the area by a large amount. The facility isn't to large but it has enough space to have almost everything you would want. The people who work there are friendly and its not that crowed generally except maybe between 5-7 when people get out of work. Seasonally January is also a pretty busy month with overweight people drinking there liter size regular coke walking on treadmills, but the irony is worth the hassle of it being a little crowded. Some problems are there billing cycles. They have screwed me twice with this. The first time my credit card was put on hold for a questionable charge and they could bill my card when, i found out i went in and tried to pay it in person, just happened to be the day the billing was processed. But apparently they can't take payment that day... so i just paid the fees? and a second time I had to cancel my card when my wallet was stolen, this happen maybe a week before the bill was due, so I tried going in to either pay for it in cash or switch it to another card. Apparently you can only change you billing card before a certain day and there about 10 days between that and the month due date that your in limbo. So they basically said they couldn't do anything about it and I would be charged a fee again upon the next billing cycle. Unsatisfied with that answer, i went in to speak with a manager the next time they were in and caused enough of a stink so they he waived the fees. Which I still don't understand how they had to charge me a late fee even though i was trying to pay early! Beware of this place! Find a gym that respects and appreciates their clients. After being closed for 6 mos they auto charged my card for another year and when I called to request a refund they said there was nothing they could do even though I said I would join again when I felt comfortable. They didn't want to hear it - would rather lose a loyal client who has been going there for years over $30. And no mention at all about credit for the 6 mos is they were closed. I know many others that are furious as well in the same position. How sleazy!! Are you serious???? How kind of you not to charge me monthly fees while the gym was closed. Do you not think that I spoke to the manager and asked him to refund the $30 now and I would join again when I felt comfortable? I was sick for awhile and haven't used the gym since Tim was the manager. It was always clean and didn't smell. Everything was good. I expected the same when I came back recently. But there is a terrible locker room odor through out the gym. It's terrible. I'm actually thinking of switching gyms. When Tim was manager, I would have given 4 or 5 stars. Pretty good basic gym. I go mostly for cardio. It can be somewhat crowded around 5 p.m., but I haven't had a problem getting a machine. The people here tend to be respectful and relatively mellow (at least when I've been). You get what you pay for at $10/month. Adequate facility, plenty of treadmills, elipticals, and bikes. Weight machines are decent as well, with a wide variety and enough to accomodate most everyone (few times it does get really packed, but generally only right after New Years for a month or two haha). Free weights are always a mess (more a fault of the people who don't put them back properly), and there are the occasional clowns there who act like they own the place. But that's to be expected at any gym I suppose. Only 3 stars because of the annoying bait-and-switch they pulled on us when we all joined. Myself and several friends joined last August, and we were told "$10 month, no membership fee to sign up!" To which we said, "awesome!" Of course, they neglected to tell us about their annual ~$30 membership fee, placed every year in October, even after we asked about other charges and were told "none". Really I guess this should be 2 stars but given the bad experiences I have I can't justify doing so. But I'll try to be fair and spare you the details of my personal ordeals (although it should be noted one of them involved getting NJ Consumer Affairs involved and them having to reinstate my membership). Pros: I'll echo the sentiments of prior reviews. It is a great deal if all you're interested in is cardio. $10 a month- no other facility comes close to that and not being locked into a long term contract is great. The facility for the most part is bright and clean. Cons: Their whole business model is about getting as many people as possible to sign up. They don't care if people are packed in like sardines making it difficult to get on some equipment. The place will never expand so the situation will never improve. If you can go on off hours it's not an issue but for the afterwork crowd this is generally a problem. Staffi I'd break down in 3's 1/3 is friendly and knowledgeable. 1/3 is friendly but not knowledgable. And 1/3 has no business being in the customer servicl biz... i.e. they're young kids who aren't fitness pros and don't take pride in their gym. The free weight section for example has never been in order. You'd think at some point a staff member would show some initiative and clean that section up. And little things like on a hot summer day they'll shut off the fan 15 minutes before closing. A lot of staff definitely more interested in quitting time than giving customers a good experience. In regards to the "machines" they're so-so compared to other gyms. The bench presses are the worst of any gyms I've been at. And in the 3 years I've been there they've never added any new equipment. Unlike Hanover they don't have any stepmill machines which I like. The mentality is we already have tons of customers so we don't need to improve the gym. Lastly getting up on my pedestal here (hey that's exercise).. but for what PF stands for I can't rate it higher. Their Walmart approach to fitness is hard to root for. You'd get a much better overall experience at a private gym but with fees that can be 3-5x it's hard to stomach paying that much more for a membership. My advice before joining a gym is what are you looking to accomplish? If it's just cardio consider investing in a machine for your home. If you're the kind of person that has trouble sticking with a membership, consider going to a place that offer classes or something fun that also burns calories. I switched to playing workout tapes at home and my weight is the same as when I was going to PF 3-4x a week. Don't just join PF because it's really cheap. read more

I'll start with, I am NOT a gym rat. I hate going to the gym, but I really like this one. As the ads say, there is no judgement, no lunkhead mentality. We go early, before work, and it has worked out great. The staff is very nice. The people working out are just nice, normal people trying to maintain health and fitness. Planet Fitness Succassuna charged my card 4 months after membership was cancelled. They even had a Stop Payment order from my bank but were still able to charge my card using something called a "customer identifier." They made a mistake and management has an unbelievable "must win attitude" against the customer. There is no way to contact corporate because all Planet Fitness gyms are independently owned so a refund is at their discretion. Worst customer service ever. I went there today wanting to join the gym. It was a pretty dark and noisy place....... but it's a gym. To join though they required to tap directly into my checking account for payment, and also have a credit card as a back up. They wouldn't even let me pay up front. For me that was a non-starter and they just referred me to another gym. I'm glad they did. I then went to NitroFlex Gym in Chester, NJ. Really beautiful facility, lots of modern equipment, clean and spacious locker room, and more. Planet Fitness may be good in other franchises, but not here. read more

The idea that you cant cancel a membership without walking in there in the given environment is completely unacceptable. The gyms have been closed for 6 months now, my daughter is back at college, and there is no way a letter can be mailed and have them receive it before the 10th of the month when she will be charged. If I have the bank stop allowing the charges she can never rejoin the gym. Have you people heard there is a pandemic going on?? Not everyone wants to walk in someplace like a gym. read more

Members beware even though you may have a non recurring membership they will bill you anyway. Customer service horrible not personnel's fault corporate policy no customer empathy felt bad originally since their Buisness has been hurt by the pandemic so felt good about helping them out even if I didn't visit the club (new and more contagious strains of the virus exist) I'm at risk so I didn't want to chance it. But then to find out that after my non renewing contract expired I was charged an annual renewal fee and would be charged monthly again unless I walked in and discontinued my membership in person in writing or via certified mail no emails or verbal communication would be sufficient even though e- signature counts in most any legal situations. read more

UPDATE: Who ever sent this (Generic/Cookie Cutter) Customer Service Comment obviously did not take the time to read my complaint and also never mentioned in the response the REAL ISSUE-Frying Oil is being vented into your Gym from the Chinese Restaurant attached to your building!!! 3 of your workers from behind the counter admitted that it they smell it on a regular basis. HELLO-this can be a Health Hazard!! And the fact that MANAGEMENT is not even addressing this issue is even more concerning. As I stated in my complaint " I was told by one of the girls working at the front desk that a Club Manager would call me to address the issue (never heard back from a Club Manager) I only heard back from the girl front the front desk telling me that there is nothing the manager can do about tje odor of Frying Oil coming into the building from the Chinese Restaurant attached to the workout area, she also stated that I would still have to pay a "Buy Out Fee" in order to cancel. So telling me that I need to contact a Club Manager makes no sense since I tried that from the start! Also I noticed that this Customer Service Comment makes no mention of the smell of Frying Oil in their club yet they tout how Squeaky Clean it is? This dark dingy club is FAR from "Squeaky Clean" and their Customer Service is wvwn worse! Yet they do quickly jump to the subject of having to pay a "Buy Out Fee" according to the Agreement. My response this is: if your Agreement had fully disclosed that as a Member I would be exposed to the inhaling of 2nd hand Frying Oil from-while working out then I would have NEVER JOINED this GREEDY ORGANIZATION! I like the selection of equipment. Before I had avoided coming in and went to Rockaway because the Ledgewood location feels a bit crowded.

Not only is this location a great facility, but I recently had an exceptional experience with management, specifically, Vin and Greg. Vin was wonderful in how he handled an issue I was having, and he made sure Greg contacted me, and Greg truly went above and beyond. My husband and I are so pleased with how things were handled, and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. I won't be getting into details, because it's a private matter, but wanted to let everyone know that the management team will work with you if you have an issue, and they do it with a smile. I recently transferred to this PF from another PF in central NJ. The WIFI hardly works, and when it does it is really slow. Not open 24 hrs. The equipment seems more worn out, compared to my previous gym. Some equipment like synrgy 360 is not available, which is a shame because I use it for doing step ups on leg days. Avoid peak times if u can, as it can get really crowded. Positives: staff is friendly, membership is just $10/month read more

I joined Planet Fitness in Succasunna earlier this year, and I have enjoyed it ever since. The gym is spacious, with plenty of equipment. I know when to go and avoid when its crowded, so I've never had a problem with doing my work out on time. With a few exceptions, the staff--especially the manager--is quite friendly and helpful. The gym crowd is a good mix of people, with hardly any of those annoying, grunting, preening narcissists who can dominate some gyms with their posing and grunting. The price is quite affordable and the black card membership is worth it. The location is accessible from the many neighborhoods nearby. In fact, I just walk to it and avoid driving all together. I work out here. Some of the staff are super friendly while others are more on the "i'm just working here" side of the spectrum. I initially thought this planet fitness was big but after going to the one on route 10, the succasunna one has less machines and is smaller. I personally would get the black card since the regular $10 a month card has a sign up fee and other fees. Beware that for both memberships you'll be charged more i believe twice a year (mid year and end of the year). Overall, this place is great BUT the one on route 10 is better and bigger (more spacious/comfortable). This one can be a but intimidating sometimes. read more

It's okay- if you need somewhere to lift something heavy this will definitely work for you! The employees are really nice and so are all the trainers they hire! But it's very dirty and can be very crowded, I always come in to have the men's locker room flooded, and the showers don't look like they've been cleaned in months! Read your contract before joining! They said my wife and I owe them hundreds and won't cancel the contract until we pay. It's not pay as you go like we thought. You have to cancel ahead of time, and the late fees are very steep. This is our first time with this kind of experience. However, I thought the staff handled it well.
