the first 3 times i went tanning I would get undressed, put my protective eye wear on, lay down in the bed and the tanning machine was never turned on by the ladies up front. I'd have to get dressed and go remind them to turn on the tanning bed. no one ever apologized or felt bad. they were just annoyed they had to get up and push buttons. Some of the employees block their name tags with stickers so i guess no one will complain on them. also, i never see the employees clean anything. massage beds, massage chairs, equipment etc but the worst thing is the parking lot is unsafe. A lot of times their outside lights don't turn on. Peoples cars get broken into a lot. The guys that work there will walk you to your car if you ask them, when the lights are out. and they are normally happy to help too. I canceled my membership after a year and had no problem with my account or contract after I canceled like some members may have had. It was a simple and easy process for me. read more

Preface to say, I am a lover of Planet Fitness and its economical price point. It definitely has qualities which I find unsavory, the smith machine supplanting free benches to be one of such things, but no love is without faults. Nobody is perfect, you know? Being a visitor of locations across several states in the south, this is, by far, my least favorite location. The facility itself has a weird allocation of space. There is an absurd amount of real estate given to the 12 minute ab circuit and the 30 minute circuit, which is basically used by nobody ever. This in turn over saturates the larger area housing the cardio machines, free weights, machine, and cable area. It is also quite dark particularly over the smith machines which are placed close to the mirrors given this lack of space. Some spots of the gym floor are taped together with black electrical tape. There is also a glorified babysitter who makes hourly rounds in the gym. Instead of working on improving the overall upkeep and cleanliness of the gym itself, he busies himself with being hitler over backpack patrol. Not my favorite location, but highlight of this membership is I can go to other franchise locations. What I look forward to on my business trips outside of Tyler, going elsewhere. read more

Before you read this review, please note that this has nothing to do with the services provided by Planet Fitness. It simply has to do with a rule that they have in place regarding renewing one's annual membership. My main goal here is to keep others from having to go through what I have. 1) I was told that I had to wait until the one-year expiration date to cancel 2) I did this 3) One year later, I was charged an "annual fee", which no one had warned me about beforehand, for the following year So what is the point here? My plan all along was to cancel my membership as soon as I was out of the one-year contract. However, because I didn't want to break the rules by cancelling my membership prematurely, I waited until the year was over. And what was the result? I was charged an "annual fee" then cancelled my membership the very next day. NOTE: I cancelled this membership THE DAY AFTER I was charged the fee (ie, as soon as I saw it in my bank account). So, in my mind, this $42 annual fee should be divided by 365, since I really only have one more day that I can use the facilities before cancelling my account. If I had cancelled it earlier and been hit with the "premature withdrawal" fee, this could have been prevented. DO THE MATH - $42 / 365 = 12 cents per day So I'm being charged $42 for being one day late (instead of being charged 12 cents) In the end, it's all about how much money you want unfairly taken from you. Cancel early, and they hit you with a fee. Wait to cancel until the year is up, and they hit you with a bigger fee (the so-called "annual fee"). So much for honestly trusting a company like this to be fair... I was happy with Planet Fitness, but until they get this figured out so that people are no longer ripped off because of a non-refundable "annual fee" that they are never informed of, customers will continue to have money unfairly taken from them. But hey, it's probably all my fault. I did what 99% of society does - I breezed through the 30 pages of legal jargon instead of hiring a lawyer to explain it to me. Apparently that means I deserve to be ripped off... NOTE: As an addendum - I have called Planet Fitness multiple times, and they are not willing to refund any of the money they took from me. It's sad that they treat their customers like this, because the gym itself is not bad at all. read more

I had a membership for 3 years, I canceled due to work location being inconvenient, I changed my mind several days later and went back to RENEW my old membership, I was told their would be a $5.00 fee, which was fine, in rethinking this, minuites later I decided to cancel. I was told by a different person that there would be a $65.00 cancelation fee because on RENEWING my old membership they created a new one with out telling me. I asked for a copy of what I had signed to reinstate and they were unable to provide me with this information. This is HORRIBLE TREATMENT TO MEMBERS, and HIGHLY MANIPULATIVE. If anyone is really interested in regularly using a gym (like 3 or 4 times each week) and working on your own time, this is the place. BUT, you have to be a self-starter, there is no one to hold your hand! It is an easy place to work out! There is plenty of equipment to use, it is clean, and the staff is available to answer any question. I was a member here and tried to cancel my membership back in march after my contact expired here it is sept and I'm still getting charged despite numerous attempts to fix this and unfulfilled promises by management, next step is legal actions. Save yourself the frustration and do not join these people I did submit a letter and it was verified in march, still getting charged , finally submitted fraud charges with my bank. read more

I tried going to the gym to talk about an issue since I've been getting double billed each month and the people in the gym couldn't help and gave me the billing number and the lady I spoke with wouldn't even let me explain what was going on! Would NOT recommend anyone joining this gym. They make it extremely difficult to quit or even just not renew. Also most of the times I was there the beefy weightlifters monopolized equipment in the 30 min workout room and that room was more likely to have broken equipment than the main room. read more

I love the gym I go almost everyday never had any problems the staff are super friendly but one day I wore a cut off shirt cause I've seen everyone wearing one an females wear just sports bras but they come up to me saying I can't wear it cause my nipples "show" they was not an didn't my whole work out but the people who have worked out there for a while can wear a string as a shirt an it's never been a problem an the women can wear sports bras? read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. DO NOT sign up, agreement or not as you will be cheated out of your money with this company. I tried to catch my membership cancellation before the "annual fees" with no help from them. Apparently they have a strict non-refund policy no matter what. You will get stuck on a corporate phone number where there is conveniently "no manager on duty" ... I'm sure all managers don't go eat lunch together at 3:30 in the afternoon. You'll get transferred to your membership location where you will be put on hold so they can talk about you and then you will end up having the same conversation with a very unprofessional representative at the store. There was no understanding, I was talked over and shut down. As someone working in the service industry I have NEVER in my life given a bad review because I have never dealt with such poor customer service skills. read more

I've been a member for several years. The gym is always spotlessly clean, the machines are always in good repair, and the staff is always friendly. I usually work out in the late morning or early afternoon, and the gym is never crowded. There is an excellent array of machines, a whole separate room dedicated to abs, and another separate room of machines for a 30 minute circuit workout. TVs and wi-fi are provided. My only complaint is the background music they play is often too loud. Given that 90% of people working out wear headphones and play their own music, the loud music coming out of the speakers only necessitates turning up the volume on personal headphones to a level that is probably bad for the ears! They lie to you when you sign up and tell you there's no contract and no annual fee and when it comes to cancelling your account they don't let you unless you pay a stupid termination fee. Kyler is the General manager and I have called him four times now and he just keeps lying about the contract, the cancellation and they just keep hitting your account over and over ....as far as them advertising "no commitment", they get you in there and discuss different color memberships to get you to do but they fail to tell you that your in a 12 month commitment if you pick something other then the basic $10 plan, doesn't make sense but that's how there's a catch to their "NO COMMITMENT" ...they also do not give you the actual contract or even let you read what you sign because your signing a tiny electronic signature pad ! After you find out what they have done to you by locking you in a contract , you have to physically go up there to cancel the mess because because you can't even call the facility, it goes to their rude CS dept ...but both are extremely rude when you want to cancel with them, just block them from your bank is the best way to get rid of this business scam.....I did notice when I walked in there to talk to them about the situation, that they had maybe 5 customers in the whole place and I've read all the reviews with the same exact issues that I've had , so I believe more and more people are getting to know how they treat people and leaving them, ...that's why they have to lock you in a contract because they are not confident that people are gonna stay with them ....CRUNCH FITNESS DOWN THE ROAD AROUND THE LOOP IS SO MUCH BETTER FOR YOU TO JOIN !!!!! read more

They have been over charging my account for months now. I put a block on them through my bank and they are still getting through somehow. I called them to let them know they told their system only does that if they can not get the full amount when they try to charge, and I know that is BS because the full amount comes out each time. When I mentioned that to them they told me I can pay a $50 cancellation fee to stop it. Honestly I think they have some of the worst customer and professional services. read more

If I could I would give this establishment 0 stars. I've been warned about this pseudo fitness centers customer service and shady business practice's for quite some time. Their not even worth the turn of a neck driving by.. After today I will never give them a dollar out of my pocket. I stopped by to try out the gym before committing to a membership and was told the fee was $20 for a 1 day pass. Even from being out of state this is the amount it takes to try the gym out. Every where I have gone has been $7 with cleaner equipment and nicer faculties. Their reasoning was that they "want people to sign up for a membership". Being a educated individual I never commit to anything without trying it first and that means signing a legally bound contract. This is a nice, inexpensive, and convenient place to workout. The staff isn't overly friendly, but they are nice enough for key chain scanning and selling goods. The changing and shower areas are usually clean. read more

I cancel the service last March for the reason that this place is too small and people not wiping the equipment after using it. After I cancel the membership I've been continue billed on my credit card and even the yearly membership. Beware of their scam so they can collect money to customer. Cancellation fee is $62.00 I cancelled it last March and up to now I'm getting billed even I'm not even going in there since March. I kept calling and calling them to stop charging on my card. I told them I already mailed my cancellation 2nd time first time is I went to the Tyler gym and still not cancelled. What a rip off. read more
