It has that nostalgic charm that makes you want to take your time and dig around for hidden gems. The worker inside was super friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated being able to browse at my own pace. Prices were fair, and the selection included everything from well-known classics to more obscure finds you don't see too often. The store is owned by The Record Man next door, which focuses more on vinyl records, so it's a nice combo if you're into all kinds of physical media. There's a small parking lot between the two shops which makes it convenient to check out both in one stop. I came here out of curiosity and discovered an extensive collection of classical music records, including vintage Deutsche Grammophon records from tons of composers! All records in here are just $5, which made buying here an absolute treat. I walked out with 4 LPs for the price of a lunch. The two gentlemen at the front desk were very friendly. They went in the back to look for Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode when I asked, and brought out CDs even though they did not have the vinyls. It turns out they are attached to the neighboring Record Man store, and they suggested I look there for LPs. I would definitely come back and highly recommend! read more

Been getting games here since my mom was buying them for me 20 years ago used to always trade in consoles/games and the owner definitely knows how to hire a good employee through the years there has been many faces behind that counter but I've never had a bad experience and always got good conversation from the people assisting me. I haven't been to planet mix in years and was pleased to see that they made it through the pandemic and Coincidentally I found a game that I've been looking for everywhere when I just happen to stop by when I was in town. I brought a mixed box of PlayStation games in last night to trade in for store credit and to see what treasures are inside the display cases to get in return. I actually spent more than a few hours browsing and talking with Anthony behind the register. I always go here with the intention of supporting Gary and his store. This night was no different. I actually found the vinyl record I specifically came for and was complimented on my choice by another customer who had just walked in and saw that I had set it aside. The display cases are constantly changing inventory so I drop in every couple of months or anytime I have a curiosity when I drive by the store. Lots of great conversation with all of the customers and Anthony last night. I can't wait to come back and see what else they have in the next few months. The person in line in front of me actually bought well over $180+ worth of games and movies. Quite a few games that I myself would have bought if I had been in line an hour earlier. I discovered this store when I was told of it during my visit to "The Record Man" this evening. I had extra time so I wanted to check it out. Was definitely floored by how much stuff was in here. Packed tight too since it's a smaller building which hides the amount of stock inside. I definitely need to come here earlier so I can spend the hours needed perusing everything they have. The store carries music (CDs, Vinyl), videogame consoles/accessories/games, movies, collectibles, and even comic books! Was told by the associate helping me that they just brought in comic books recently. This store, since it's the sister store to "The Record Man", also was running the buy 1 get 1 free. Since I was just browsing at this point, it was hard to choose. Again, I need much more time to look through everything lol I had a lot of fun looking and I got a couple CDs that I'm sure I'll like based on past experience with specific songs in each. An absolute gem of a shop in Redwood City. They have the deepest catalogue in 650 area code in terms of games spanning every generation of home/handheld consoles, and while inventory predictably ebbs and flows, they take the upmost care to ensure they're providing the best products possible. I used to go to this shop years ago and they had a great selection of vintage video games and game systems, but I went in there recently and I couldn't find anything worth while. I mean, sure, you guys have used PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii games, but so does every other video game store around. I liked it better when you guys focused on the old, rather than new. Also, it's kind of turning into a second record shop...that's cool and all, but I thought you were supposed to focus on video games. Another thing that I noticed is that there's never anyone friendly working in that shop of late. I used to have good conversations with the employees working there years back, but now I can hardly get a "Hello" when I walk into the shop. And during my last visit I told the employee to "Have a good night" and all he responded with was: "Yeah." I'm sorry if you're sick of your job, but at the very least you could work on your customer service skills. Thoughts about returning to this place? I think not. Go to GameStop...sadly, they have a better selection of vintage games. read more

Bought an NES game and NES controller. Both were in bad shape. The controller didn't register when pressing left, was sticky on all other directions. Not all worthy of sale, a total rip off. The game I bought doesn't work, boots to a broken screen. Makes me wish I asked to try both before walking out. Seems like they would offer that, and my advice to anyone is to ask to confirm it works, see it with your own eyes. I will try to get a return tomorrow. I won't be back. The guy selling the stuff was nice enough, even if the products were broken and not worthy of sale. read more

Great selection of older games and consoles/peripherals. I called ahead to buy some ps2 controllers. Initially they thought they were sold out, but to my surprise I got a call 5 minutes later saying they had found a few. Was greeted by Richard who was really accommodating. Even plugged in the controllers and tested them for me before purchasing. It's a great shop with a ton of little gems. Planet Mix has a great variety of new and vintage video games. They also have a huge selection of movies, vinyls and Cd's. The games and movies are a lot cheaper than most retailers. The staff there is very friendly and knowledgeable . They also buy new and used video games, consoles, and movies from you for either cash or store credit. Great selection of older LP's at $5 a pop. Yes, some of the LP's were in really bad shape, but the majority were in VG to VG+. I picked up 8 copies of albums I was looking at for $40! They would have cost me easily around $75 on-line before shipping. 4 of the 8 were in NM shape! Shopping for vinyl requires doing a little homework and expanding your knowledge. Knowing how to grade LP's and understand how to read the matrix numbers in the dead was will take you far in always getting great deals. The customer service was great and I was treated very well. After saving some coin here I went next store and splurged on a higher priced record! read more

I have come in here multiple times looking for older horror movies. Both times I have been able to find exactly what I have wanted, and they have always been relatively inexpensive. The selection of CDs, records, and movies is quite good. Similarly they have older video games, but their selection isn't the best. It appears that they have a ton of Xbox/PlayStation games throughout the generations but I have not really looked at them much. The guy who has been there working is always very friendly. I will most likely come here every few weeks to get my movie fill. read more

Went in thinking that we could rent a dvd - something that is almost impossible to do anymore. As it turns out, they only had the movies we wanted for sale. BUT, they were for sale at $2.99 !!!! So we bought them. The guy behind the counter was very helpful. The selection is largely limited to movies that are not as up-to-the-same year recent, but still, very good value. Great fish tank, too! I ended up buying a Blue Ray disc while I was there, to bring home. It was such good value. read more

I agree with Jonathan A.'s review. It's great that they continue to carry older used games that GameStop no longer carries. But the employees really don't seem very happy and one current employee, Anthony, is the worst. Don't try to negotaite, even a little, on an old used game item, or Anthony will get crazy pissed off. As I walk in, there's this guy with a denim jacket and he completely ignores me when I say hi. Not a great first impression. I just spent my time looking through everything, and I'll admit, it was crazy how much they had of everything. Comic books, Dvd's, Blu rays, Video Games, and even Vinyl. Sadly, once I had finally gotten this guy to pull out the games that I wanted and I had chosen the comics and dvd's I was going to buy, I went up to the counter so he could ring me up. When he brings up the total, it was WAY too high. I looked at the prices of everything again to make sure I didn't miscalculate and sure enough, I hadn't. I asked him why the I was being charged a higher price on some of the comics, and he said that they weren't his prices. I looked at the price tag and it was the exact same one being used all over the store. I told him that what he was doing was illegal and he said he didn't care. I don't want to give the store this review, but I can't see myself going back or suggesting others go here. read more
