I found a nice dress to wear to our Family reunion dinner that night. I got plenty of compliments telling me that it looked cute. But I hurt my calf playing pickle ball and I was hopeful to find a pair of crutches, but I was unlucky. Oh well, at least I found a dress. read more

Been thrifting many many years and spending alot of money at this location until recently, to many negatives to list but the main ones are [[HIGHLIGHT]]how rude Jackie the manager is and how she treats her employees not to mention she often smells like alcohol.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Really sad that I have to rely on going to Mountain view and or Burlingame Goodwill to get that great feeling of bargain hunting especially since I reside in San Mateo. Warning. I needed pants to fit over recent surgery. Asked if they had fitting rooms. Was told by a big, friendly dark haired worker that they didn't have rooms but I had 7 days to return them if they didn't fit. 7 days, she repeated while taking my money. 2 days later I returned to get my money back: they didn't fit. Too bad I can rate for 0 star! I've stopped coming to this location because the prices have become unreasonable. I used to be able to get a nice cup for $1.49 to $3.49 -- now it's $6.49? Seriously? The quality of shoes has gone down, and if you do find a decent pair, expect to pay over $25. Clothing prices have also gone up; $3-$5 per item might not sound like much, but in many cases, I can buy new clothes from actual retail brands for less. This used to feel like a donation-based place meant to help the community. Now, it feels more like a business squeezing people who are just trying to get by. It's really disappointing. So sad that this location has been purchased and changed by the Arizona buyout. Prices have gone up too much for me to be able to keep coming as much as I'd like. I'm really disappointed by my mother's recent experience at this Goodwill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When she came in with her service dog, she was told by a female employee if it's a service dog to put a vest on the dog to prove that it's a service dog because they pee, my mother continued to explain that it's a service dog, and the female employee said " everybody says the same thing "[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]" that is not only unnecessary but also illegal under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was frustrating and disheartening to be questioned like that, especially by a store that's supposed to support the community.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service animals are protected by law, and no paperwork can be required to prove they're legitimate. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Experiences like this make it harder for people with disabilities to feel comfortable accessing public spaces.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I truly hope management provides proper ADA training to their staff so this doesn't happen again. No one should have to explain or justify their right to have a service dog in a public store. There is limited parking in the parking lot and getting in and out can be tricky and take time. Donation hours are from 10-2 but they have to close when their bins are full. I've frequently shown up at 12:30 -1 to be told they will not take any items. Go early. read more

Stepped into the store and instantly regretted it. Couldn't see because the lights were extremely dim. Clothes all over the floor. Extremely clustered, could hardly move without bumping in to someone or something. Not a single item under the price of $8.99. I already knew in advance that the store stops taking donations ahead of their posted time, but this is the time that I had to spare, so oh well. I came around 1:45 and there was a sign out saying donations were closed. Not surprised. I would not recommend this location. We all can acknowledge that it takes time to pack your car with used goods and do you really want to make the trek out here only to find that they're closed? I mean, I guess if you have a trunk and you just want to store your stuff and keep driving by until it is open... Other goodwill locations aren't like that so I'll just drop off my things somewhere else. i decided to check out the store. I bought a myrtlewood plate, a print embosser, and a brand new pair of sparkly Christmas socks. The goods of course vary, but I didn't see AMAZING finds. There were a lot of Game of Thrones stuff for some reason. The prices are also a lot higher than other Goodwills. I wanted to get a couple of ugly Christmas sweaters but all the sweaters are priced at $15. I can buy brand new sweaters for that price at Target or Ross. High prices + unreliable donation hours + not amazing selection, this Goodwill location is at the bottom of my preferred stores. My favorite store was one in Colorado - it was large and I was so proud to get a shirt for 50 cents. Also, while the store was organized, it wasn't done so artfully. I like how the one in Fremont, which is smaller, organizes home goods by color and they organize items nicely. While in the San Mateo location, I took a bowl and organized little doodads people were walking past, and arranged them nicely. Then another customer came by and checked it out. I'm really frustrated by the actions of the donation worker today. They close at 2:00, I was there 2:01 he said he couldn't accept any more donations. At that moment another person unloading her car, the workers were still working around the trucks. That one minute costs me minimum half an hour of my life. Actually similar things are happening quite often, they close early etc. What's it? Even the flights, the doctors, the lawyers... give few minutes extra as a grace period. I used to be a regular. They used to have quality clothing. And they were slightly overpriced for a thrift but I went anyway because they had good stuff. However, over the last 6-7 months there have been changes. Quality of clothing is significantly down. Pricing is absolutely absurd. 9.99 for a shirt that you could probably buy at the flea market and it's used. Crazy. I will not be returning. Management definitely changed or ownership. I'm beyond impressed this store is well -organized! The display is very catchy makes me buy stuff I don't really need lol. Some racks are pretty empty. One lady said they depend on donations for the inventory and she's right. Maybe not all donations are priced here because I heard boxes also send to Utah or other stores. None of that has changed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I understood them closing the dressing rooms during COVID, but long after other stores made their dressing rooms available, this Goodwill did not. The beauty of Goodwill, or any store where I would shop for clothing, is the ability to try on several things to find the right fit. Prices at Goodwill have gone up so much it's crazy lol. Now I rarely go there. My best places to go now are small local thrift shops.

I'm glad that this Goodwill is in my neighborhood. Most of the time I've shopped there, I've found some cool and high quality items: clothes, shoes or accessories. For example, I found a pair of suede boots that were hand made in Italy. When I looked up the brand, Anyi, I found that similar boots retailed for $500.00. In my mind, they went from a pair of $30 boots (what I paid for them) to a $500 pair of boots. And now when I wear them, I feel so luxurious. I also found my hangbag there. I love it! I was looking for a handbag and was ready to buy a full price bag because I wanted a certain size pockets and I was particular about the pockets. I looked at some full priced ones, but couldn't find any. Lo and behold, I found a great, very new looking red bag with just the right pockets and the right size! It's beautiful! I bought it for $5.00, a seriously great deal! So go there and see. You'll usually find something worthwhile, but if not, it is fun to browse. read more

We had such an easy and happy experience dropping off items for charity here today. We had cutlery, lamps and a 42 inch TV to drop off and the load off zones were so well managed. The volunteers were extremely polite and helpful - we left feeling happy and distinctly like we earned some goodwill. The selection is great because of the high income area, parking is plentiful, and it is generally clean inside. As of Sept 2025 there are NO fitting rooms available. Be prepared to try on clothes on top of your clothes or bring a tape measure. TLDR: The 1 star is due to the fact employees are not trained enough in customer service and will donate your money without asking = stealing. There is a young (25-35) Caucasian male associate with just above shoulder length dirty blonde hair, mid-level average build, large nose, named Eric. I had to inform this associate they should not be donating people's money without asking ahead of time. He rounded up my purchase without asking me. When I examined my receipt, I see that he donated WITHOUT ASKING ME to Goodwill. I obviously shop at Goodwill so I am willing to spend my money there, but I want to know, where my money is going and I want to be with my consent...seems like common sense, pun intended... This is not about 14 cents- it is about the principle of the matter and taking people's money without consent...last time I checked that is stealing. I informed him as such, and he cut me off when I brought up the issue, and acted like it wasn't a big deal with "ok ok I get you", and offered to return my money. Very nice attendant outside, clearly working really hard on a busy Sunday- major kudos to him. Easy driveway to pull up to with bins on wheels. Yay for those too! My only wish is that there was some sort of signage (like an old school fire danger meter) that could help show how full or to capacity they are or if they were closing early. I was in the process of making multiple runs for donation & for my last one, enlisted the help of a Lugg crew to bring the final load in. With Lugg, you pay for the labor & truck & designate one location for your drop off. When the Lugg guys got to this location, a woman said they were full and closing at 2 PM and turned them away. Goodwill's online listing showed their hours were open until 5 PM. So, this was a huge bummer. I get that it's not always something they can control, but the load wasn't massive so it was just super inconvenient & frustrating. I had been there 45 min earlier & there was no indication they'd be closing early nor that they were full. Anyway, I fortunately was able to re-direct the crew to the Redwood City drop off location, but it cost me a lot more. read more

I then called Silicon Valley Goodwill in Palo Alto and they said they'd be happy to take my donations. I'm new to goodwill but started thrifting after I watched Buy Now on Netflix. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I've been going to Goodwills all around the Bay and today had the rudest experience ever.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I believe it was the manager who was putting some postings up on the door at 8:59 am while myself and a couple of other customers were waiting for the store to open. She finished posting up the flyers and locked the front door back up. It was 9:01 and we saw an employee go into the 2nd entrance from the parking lot so we assumed the store was open as that door was unlocked and it was past 9 am. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The manager, an older lady yelled we're not open yet and literally shooed us out with her hands. Unbelievably rude.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Get your act together and open on time or at least politely explain that you will need a few more minutes. I come to this location to look for shoes, which they don't disappoint. I could always find a pair of trainers, athleisure, and streetwear shoes for men at a fair price. However, they've recently been price hiking certain brands to be on par with resellers on ebay which I'm not fond of. I'm sure this is across other products in store, and that this isn't the only store with this practice. What used to be a pair of fairly/lightly worn shoes at a small fraction of the price is now found at 60-80% of the original msrp. As much as I support the cause, it's just not the same experience thrifting if I'm paying more $, which at that point, I'd rather go to a consignment store or purchase online. read more

To make matters worse, they have also chosen to close their bathrooms indefinitely. So let me outline this for you: 1. Closed bathrooms 2. Closed fitting rooms 3. Absolutely nothing has changed in their business model other than offering as less as humanly possible. Wont be surprised if they decide to turn off the light and ask us to bring our own flashlights next time. 4. They are making record breaking profits 5. Still paying their employees the least possible 6. Still getting all their items for free and they are still considered a 501c3. It's as if their mentality is "let's see how much we can get away with" They will continue to squeeze until people do something about it.
