It's a pretty neat cool music vintage store. The minute you walked in, you can smell the old vintage of it. They have bunch or vinyls, cassette tape, CDs, video tapes, blueray DVD and so on. I always find the ones I'm looking for , if not, I always come back to take my chances that they will finally have it. The staff are very helpful. You should try and check out this place. Located in a nondescript, and very old (been here since before I was born.) strip mall, you may miss this hidden gem in the Burbank Neighbourhood. I can't say enough great things about this retro music store. They offer an eclectic mix of items, including cassette tapes. And a large collection at that. Of course, tons of records they even have a great selection of DVD movies. Some cool T-shirts and other miscellaneous gift items. They have candy too and soda! The best thing I love about them is they really give back to their community. This is my daughter's favorite go to store for getting vinyl. Me and my friend went here a couple days ago and when we walked in we were surprised by how many choices of records they had, however my friend had tried asking one of the workers for a specific album and was ignored along with the fact that the people who were working there were nasty to us when we checked out at the register. I am very sad because my friends had recommended me this place and even though they do have good selections i am not fond of the way we were treated , the people who worked at Rasputin a couple minutes away were much nicer to us and are always nice at the register every time we go. I would give it 4 stars because their collection is good and well-priced. However, when I was looking at their international section, I saw there were a few records that were in the Middle Eastern section that should've been in the South Asian section. Makes me question their research on their collection. read more

I honestly feel bad that I completely forget that Streetlight is literally less than a mile from my house but it is 100% a hidden gem! I came here to sell some cds,dvds and vinyl. While I waited I browsed around and they have a lot of really good stuff. Majority of it is CDs but they also have some Vinyl, DVDs/BluRay and even stickers! I saw A LOT of things I had to walk away from because I had come to take home some money not spend it. Now I normally take item to Rasputin to sell and they always take everything but a small take home. Here is the opposite, they pay more but take a lot less so it's a give and take so to speak but the associates were super nice and I'll definitely be back again but this time to shop! read more

Revisited Streetlight recently for their listening party of the new Pinhead Gunpowder album, "Unt." It was my first time going to a listening party and I really enjoyed it! On top of buying the new Unt record, I also ended up buying another vinyl I found. They gave everyone a free album poster with some aunt freebies as well. I've been going to Streetlight Records since I first got into records in 2012. The staff are always friendly, it's easy to special order records, and there's a deluge of great finds in used and new vinyl. In particular, I'm into video game vinyl, and Streetlight has stocked Mondo releases, Data Disc stuff, the works. You really just gotta check back frequently because people sell often and there's plenty of good stuff out there! (I just sold a bunch there as well -- shout out to Brittany who priced my stuff fairly and talked shop a bit about VGM vinyl.) Used video games aplenty as well! I especially appreciate how responsive Streetlight is on social media. I've messaged Paige from Streetlight back and forth about special orders from time to time and she's always clear about what to expect and the over/under on getting special releases. It's so easy to decide to go to Amazon or Barnes and Nobles for records, but Streetlight Records really is a community hub for people who love good music and good vibes. Over a decade later, I'm confident I'll be a customer for decades to come. read more

I have been to Streetlight a few times since getting into vinyl, and I love both the physical and online storefronts. The physical store has tons of both new and lightly used records, with both classic rock/metal/etc. and new contemporary releases. You can get a $10 or so discount on contemporary records that have been opened and lightly used. There is also a generous selection of jazz and classical records; vintage records are fairly priced IMO, with most records not costing more than $10 each and a few collectible pressings priced $20-50. The staff are very friendly and kind; they've helped me both over the phone and in person and given recommendations to me and my friend. The store is well lit, well organized, and always playing something fun over the speakers. Highly recommend to record lovers looking for a way to spend their weekend. read more

Wow! I never knew this place existed. My friend introduced me to this place as he wanted to look at their vinyl records. It's in the middle of the industrial era on Bascom, and it's not hard to miss! They have convenient parking next to the venue. The moment you walk in- it's bright lit store with aisles and aisles of music merchandise from CDs, albums, DVDs, and more. I'm definitely returning since they buy used DVDs and CDs. It was fun to explore the store from seeing different music genres from jazz to kpop, movie classics, and anime as well. Criterion collection was stacked up too. we liked how they organized it on large standing shelves, kind of mimicking the "criterion closet" series. Staff didn't speak to us at all There's 3 listening booths set up with headphones and CDs displayed and it should have an "Out of Order" sign cuz we kept trying to use it and it didn't work. An employee saw us and passed right by us without a care. some communication would be nice! Also the cashier didn't even say "hi" just the total of my purchase. She also didn't instruct me to pick up my record on the other side of the counter. I had to assume that on my own I guess. I've been to Amoeba SF and I know they also do it like that but at least the staff there talks to you and lets you know lmao read more

Super friendly, helpful, and amazing. Paige, in particular, has gone WAY out of her way to help me get a hold of some of the more difficult to find titles on my growing list. What a great place. One of the things I miss most about Memphis? The great record stores. I could spend an afternoon just visiting record stores and browsing ... discovering little gems to put on my victrola when I got home. My hubby took me appliance shopping (refrigerator specifically) this past Sunday. Out last appliance store stop was at Airport Hone Appliance. Practically in the same parking lot was Streetlight Records. I was significantly more excited when seeing this place than going to look at fridges. The hubby had never went record shopping so it was fun introducing him to it. I found several great records including a Fats Domino one I had been looking for, and a Sun Studio recording from Elvis. I always look for Sun Studio recordings of any artist. The hubby was excited to find several of his favorite 80s bands. The selection (not counting the bargain bin area) of records are all pretty well organized and relatively extensive. The hubby was a little disappointed at the anime selection, but still managed to find two (one DVD and one blue ray) that he 'needed'. ;) And we managed to find him an pair of game themed socks ... haha. It's a cool old school record store. Lots of records, CDs and DVDs. All were well organized and easy to find alphabetically. Prices were low for the used stuff, didn't see too much brand new but it's there. My daughter loves buying CDs and DVDs from actual stores and not online and she enjoys these kinds of places! After a dreadful time at Rasputin Music where all four employees I talked to were simply horrible (one spent five minutes badmouthing their owner, "the owner only trusts the Berkeley store with the good records. We only get leftovers here. He's a jerk." one told me he was sure they wouldn't have any shirts in "my size," one yelled at my eleven year old child for accidentally walking in with a soda "No Drinks Allowed!!! She screamed. And the other took my items and rang me up without saying a word, only to refuse me a bag after spending $90 there. "Bags are ELEVEN CENTS," she said... l told her I had no problem paying the 11 cents but she could have at least informed me of the fee before she rang my card! Then we went to Streetlight, the records were on average 20% cheaper for the same item. They had way better/rarer stuff. And the employees were awesome! Jeff the vinyl guy was incredible. Deep hip hop knowledge like myself, easily 20 years in the underground vinyl game. And super kind to my kids. No "music snobs" here. Dropped $250 like it was nothing and loved it! PLUS... wait for it... free REUSABLE bag with purchase! I know where I will always be going back to from now on! read more

I love this record store, it's my usual go to for any of my record needs/wants, but unfortunately after last night at their Laufey Listening party. I'm afraid I'll be taking my business elsewhere. It was a super unorganized event. I was told I was #1 in line for the vinyl purchase but the woman who instructed me to wait at a certain spot and have people line up behind left and once they allowed people to go up to the register to purchase a group of like 20+ people swarmed past me and cut a lot of people off. Okay maybe my fault for waiting, but after getting in line again, the male behind me came up to me accusing me of cutting and inviting more people to cut in line ( I was by myself, I was on the phone, but never invited people over ) and it felt as if he was threatening me, he was getting super close to me and telling me he wasn't going to let it "slide" . I deescalated the situation, but lowkey my night was ruined. Having to wait wasn't the issue but it being so dysfunctional, not being able to get my gift with purchase with everyone swarming past me and getting threaten by another patron was the last straw, I love you streetlight but I'll be heading over to Rasputin now. read more

Movies everywhere. A whole library of movies. If you're looking for movies and couldn't find any here. I suggest checking it twice to see if they even exists cause they have A LOT. Huge selection to chose from, as a movie buff I like going to streetlight to see what movies they have. Of course being a used record store you never know what you are going to find and just kind of makes it fun. My most recent visit I gathered up quite the haul and scored big time on some 4k titles. How they manage to cram a whole lot in a small area is interesting. Although it's not the largest (I usually shop at their Santa Cruz location) but I was in the neighborhood and stopped by to see their selection of movies, because they have a large selection of every genre. The employees at this location are very knowledgable, more than willing to help if you can't find something. Great store and I'm looking foward to my next visit - thank you! read more

I recently bought a turntable and it's now a hobby every weekend to search for vinyls I like. I have to say the one thing Streetlight has over the others is how friendly the staff is. I got into a discussion about how hard it was to find Pet Shop Boys LPs anywhere and they wound up finding a 45 for me. I really appreciated the gesture.
