My sons and I had an awesome time visiting The Record Man last weekend. The selection was fantastic, and the kids found some great albums. The proprietor was super friendly and helpful, and he very kindly gave my older son two books on tape with our purchase. We will definitely visit again next time we are in town.

Cool place to check out if you're in town. A large selection of stuff, but it is pretty tight inside.

It has that nostalgic charm that makes you want to take your time and dig around for hidden gems. The worker inside was super friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated being able to browse at my own pace. Prices were fair, and the selection included everything from well-known classics to more obscure finds you don't see too often. The store is owned by The Record Man next door, which focuses more on vinyl records, so it's a nice combo if you're into all kinds of physical media. There's a small parking lot between the two shops which makes it convenient to check out both in one stop. I ended up finding a few cool items to add to my collection and will definitely come back whenever I'm in the area treasure hunting.

All records in here are just $5, which made buying here an absolute treat. I walked out with 4 LPs for the price of a lunch. The two gentlemen at the front desk were very friendly. They went in the back to look for Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode when I asked, and brought out CDs even though they did not have the vinyls. It turns out they are attached to the neighboring Record Man store, and they suggested I look there for LPs. I would definitely come back and highly recommend!

This place is really hole-in-the-wall basement ish warehouse type feel bookstore. The prices are amazing for the used books. It is incredibly reasonably priced. I found two children's books in very good quality for $1 each. What a steal! For the most part, don't expect finding hot new bestsellers in here. This place is like for book antiques or if you need a used copy of something that might be a few years back. It was good for what I needed since I'm looking for some older historical fiction books about the American revolution. I was surprised to find two books here that I needed and so maybe you'll get lucky too! The couple who owns this place are very friendly. They said hi right upon me walking in. Selection is pretty wide, the books genres are organized in a neat way but the books themselves are scattered. For example, the fiction and nonfiction adult books are alphabetical order by last name but the children's books are not. It made things harder for me to look but I didn't mind since I had time. If you're in a rush then maybe this place isn't the best or just ask the lady up front for help! Overall this place is a gem and the proceeds go to a good cause--San Mateo historical foundation!

Hopefully the Fremont one opening will be even half as nice as this location is. I always want to support small, local bookstores, but it's always so hard to find what I'm looking for there.

I will say that books have gone up in price (across the board, not just B&N). But the board books and games for young kids aren't bad. I also recently bought a chess set that was half off in their sale section. Customer service is generally good. They don't give us a hard time about playing with the toys, and they're friendly at the coffee shop and checkout. We like this spot and we'll keep coming back.

After hearing bad things here and there in the press (since I follow video game journalism closely), I was pleasantly surprised to have a great customer service experience here this afternoon. A while back the website (gamestop.com) had a sale on refurbished PSVR headsets, so I got one for my friend. It shipped to his house. With all of the pandemic craziness, it took him a while to try it out. He discovered that the processor unit wasn't working. I finally got around to getting it from him last weekend, and after verifying that it didn't work for me either, I thought I'd be out of luck since I was past the 30-day guarantee period. I called up this store and someone listened carefully to my issue and told me that even though he couldn't replace the defective unit himself, he should be able to take the return and place another order for me at the same price, even though the sale was over. I drove over a few minutes later. They verified that I had all of the parts and, as promised, put in a new order to be sent to my friend. While I was waiting, I saw them patiently help out a few other customers, proactively letting someone looking for a particular accessory know the closest store with the item and also encouraging them to check back the next day since they had some in transit. I've been to other Gamestops where the staff has not been as welcoming and helpful. I'm happy to support this one and feel better about my pre-order (placed a few weeks ago for this location) for Tony Hawk Remastered.
