Hojicha is coming next. Hojicha is roasted Japanese green tea, and it has a completely different flavor profile from matcha. It's smooth, earthy, nutty and almost toasted, without that grassy quality some people associate with matcha. The one I had at Saikō was absolutely delicious. I also love that they're not treating Japanese tea like a trend that needs to be watered down for everyone. There's some real creativity happening with the flavors and combinations, and the menu is interesting enough that I'd want to come back and work my way through it. The location is definitely unconventional, but there's something kind of cool about watching people play pickleball while you're sitting there drinking Japanese tea. It's cool that you can watch people play pickleball while you sip on your matcha. The Greenery Creamery also just opened their new location right next door, so I'm sure they'll start to see some increased traffic.
