This place is incompatible with certain types of insurance like Cigna. Even worse they will refuse to tell you an estimate of the price until you are ready to pay. The front desk needs to be more professional, they were talking about my paper work as I can hear them while sitting in the waiting area, 10 feet away from them... one stated "she says she lives in SF" while someone else proceeded to say "why didn't she just go over there"... I reside in SF as I attend school for social work. Why I am in this area shouldn't be topic of discussion and they shouldn't make anyone feel unwelcomed, especially in their line of work!! Visited a couple times recently and I felt welcomed on both instances. The staff is very nice, friendly, and approachable! I felt very comfortable asking questions and they were knowledgeable and respectful. I made an appointment both time and the wait has always been less than 10 minutes. With that said, I'm not sure how the wait is for walk-ins. The location is a bit small and parking can be confusing if you're visiting for the first time, but I'd highly recommend this location. The main doctor here was very rude. It looked like she did not like working here and was very condescending whenever I talked about problems. This was supposed to be a safe space, most of us here come for emergencies and help. I stopped coming here because of her but everyone else was nice and friendly, I'm just disappointed they weren't the main doctors to help me out. This doctor should not be licensed or even work HERE of all places if all she'll tell me is that there are other states that don't allow planned parenthood or that they don't allow abortions so I could've went to jail if I was there! I was thinking in my head like, "are you kidding me lol" I really don't remember this doctor's name, but she was female, light brown/blonde curly short hair, 5'6 maybe, wore glasses. Avoid coming to this location, front desk sucks you would think for the type of place this is they would be more understanding and helpful but they are so rude and can't even look at you in the eye while talking to you. Once I went to the back they made me wait in a room, the lady comes doesn't even greet or introduce herself and goes straight to questioning, after about 5 minutes she leaves saying she was going to get my test results and starts making phone calls to other patients in the room next to me and I can clearly hear her because she has the other patients on speaker letting anyone hear their business. This is not my location of choice, but I had to come here since all the other locations were booked up with appointments! Aside from the limited parking (small parking lot in the back or street parking) and being in the very east side of San Jose, the staff here accommodated all my needs. I had an appointment, but still waited about half an hour before I was called in. From the girl at the front desk, to the lady who called me in, to the nurse, all 3 were super sweet & helped me get what I needed when my Target pharmacy prescription refills weren't going through anymore. I didn't catch any of their names, but shoutout to them. The nurse reminded me a lot of myself- chatty, funny, and filled the place with good vibes. I had an appointment today at this location. I've also never been here before and I know the reviews are very mixed reviews. However, I had an amazing experience here at this clinic. The service was fast. The staff was kind and everyone was very knowledgeable. I also want to give a huggggge shout out to the staff that cared for me while I was there. I ended up fainting during a blood draw which has never happened to me before. I was very terrified, but the staff took great care of me and remained calm until I felt better. To the Planned Parenthood staff, I hope you read this review and know how grateful I am for each and every single one of you. I remember coming here when I got into a relationship because the one near my house was all booked up and this place was the only one available at the time. I had an appointment to get birth control and came early but ended up waiting super long to be seen. The receptionist and nurse were both nice but the doctor was so rude. She was lecturing me and making me feel bad about having unprotected sex and what I was going to do if I got pregnant like uh I'm here to get birth control so I don't get pregnant... Going to the doctors to get birth control should not be a place where you are getting judged, it should be a safe place. If I wanted to get judged, I would have just gone to see my parents lol. This location is filthy. There were at least 4 flies flying around in the waiting area. My appointment was at 2:10 pm on a weekday and I had to wait over 40 minutes until I was called in by one of the front desk employees. After I got to the room, I had to wait another 30 some minutes for the doctor. While I was in the waiting room, I observed people walking in every other 10 to 20 minutes with an appointment. This type of scheduling is quite troublesome and should be changed if the facility can't see people at the time that they are supposed to be seen. What is the point of an appointment if you can't see your patients accordingly and by schedule? I added a star mainly because the doctor that I saw was very helpful and knowledgeable. My spouse went in to make a purchase and was told he needed a mask. This makes sense because this is a medical facility, however, the average person no longer carries around a mask for obvious reasons. The person behind the counter, when my spouse asked for a mask, said that he could go across the street and purchase a package of them. This is a) ridiculous and unacceptable - this is a medical facility in the midst of the pandemic, you know that you should have these and b) a complete oversight - underprivileged populations seek out care at PP all across the country because healthcare is often unaffordable for them and largely inaccessible. I went here twice, and here I am, sitting here, while 5 people have gone before me, when I had my appointment scheduled already. I had gone back and forth to ask the front desk ladies how much longer I would've had to wait. At first, she said that I was next, and then mentioned that I would be expected to wait AN HOUR AND FIFTEEN MORE MINUTES? I am absolutely speechless. These women don't even seem to enjoy being here, and nonetheless radiate the rudest attitudes I've ever seen. Prior to this experience, I had an appointment about 2 months ago, for around noon. I was no less than 5 minutes late, and they made me wait FOR FOUR WHOLE HOURS since I was "late." FOUR HOURS OF MY LIFE I WILL NEVER GET BACK, this is something that's so ridiculous, I felt like I was on an episode of a sitcom. Not only that, but they kept reassuring I was next, when obviously, I wasn't. The doctor was so rude too, saying "you just want to get your birth control and leave, huh..." LIKE WHAT. I'll give this planned parenthood 2 stars because clinical back staff was friendly but front admin staff was horrible. Specific the lady who checked me in. Very rude and judgmental. People come here nervous and scared already and it doesn't help to be so hostile towards patients as first point of contact. Front desk lady accused me of insurance fraud which I would definitely say violated my HIPAA rights. If a patients gives you an answer once then that should be taken into consideration not asked over and over. Definitely would not recommend this clinic. The staff here are bored and clearly don't want to be there. Every time I've gone, it was extremely busy. These people are snakes. I'm so angry. I've been with Planned Parenthoods since I was 14 years old (16 years) and I've never experienced anything like I have with the Alum Rock location. I've recently moved to the area so I simply wanted to have my files transferred so I can pick-up pills and later, have my exams, at the Alum Rock Planned Parenthood. This is a simple procedure that I've done on several moves.. I've had my files transferred from Missouri to Nevada and now to Cali, and from different city to city in Missouri with no problems. I'm not low income, I simply like Planned Parenthoods cause you can find them through-out the States The ladies at Alum Rock however, have lied and continuously tried to get me to agree to a consultation. I dealt with this last Tue for 10 minutes of me saying no on my first phone call, then another 20 minutes on Thur when I went in to fill out the file transfer authorization that they said I'd have to come in and sign. Finally, when I said I'd just have my RX transferred to a local pharmacy instead of my files transferred to them, they told me they could give me the pills with the file transfer but it might take a few days. I said that was fine, I could wait and come back. Well, when I came back on Friday after they had the files, suddenly, there were more forms for me to fill-out and someone else I needed to talk to! What a mess!! It was too late in the day and I didn't want them to be stuck at work late so I told them I'd come back again on Monday (even though I was supposed to start my pills on Sunday). Well, today I go in for my pills. They make me fill out more forms, wait in the waiting room and finally, they call me back to a room and say I have to go over some stuff with their clinician. Umm, ok? I wait... finally the head lady comes in and asks me how many pills I'll want. Then she says that with the pill cost and visit fee, my total will be 'suchandsuch'. I'm dumbfounded... you mean they're trying to charge me for the 'consultation visit' that I've repeatedly said no No NO to?! They told me last week if I waited for my files to be transferred I wouldn't be required to have a consultation and now today, they're trying to sneakily charge me for one? That's so messed up. I don't need a consultation as I had my exam last year. They're just trying to earn extra money for their clinic by overcharging girls for procedures that they don't need. Now, I'm so angry. RECAP - I've visited them 3 times and talked to them since the beginning of last week. They repeatedly tried to coerce me into a consultation that I don't need. When I said I'd just have my Rx transferred to a pharmacy instead of my files to them, they said they could give me my pills but it'd take a day or so, I waited and then when I went back (twice) they tried to sneakily charge me for a consultation anyway... now, I'm a day late on my pills and so angry that I just walked out of their office. I guess they thought they had me in a corner since they knew I was a day late already and really needed my pills. They lady kept saying, we're just trying to make sure you get your pills. No, they were just really trying to make sure they made some money on an unnecessary consultation. They are so sneaky and deceitful, I'd rather use condoms for the next month than give them my money... and that's saying a LOT! read more

My first experience here was like many others weren't so great. I decided to transfer over to planned parenthood since I had been getting them from SJSU but I would no longer be a student so could not get services from them anymore. So living in the 21st century I tried to make an appointment online but to no prevail I called. I called and the woman on the other end scheduled an appointment for me. The same day. So I drive over there and walk-in. The receptionist, asked if I had an appointment and I thought I did so I said yes, I guess that it did not come up on her computer so she gives me a green slip of paper and tells me to fill it out and wait. I was new to all this so I thought this was how things went there. After waiting for 30 minutes I finally have a turn in this tiny office/file room. And it turns out that I did not have an appointment, the woman I spoke to on the phone I guess did not exist. So that was a waste of a trip and I had to come back. I ended up going to Planned Parenthood three times within two weeks. Wasted my time. To top it all off the receptionist that was inside asked me if I would like to donate money. Honestly, I'm the type of person that would. I think that they are doing a great thing by providing us poor people that are not insured free services, but that week I was low on cash and need to be extra sparse with spend it. So I said I'm sorry but I really don't have any money right now and that woman rolled her eyes at me. I was like WTF?! Did not enjoy that at all. Since I moved to Campbell hopefully my experience over at the Alameda location will be better. I'm not gonna hold my breathe though. read more

It's a long wait but you just have to deal with it because if they weren't here, you'd be in trouble or be payin' a lot or having your parents find about things you wouldn't want them to know about. One thing that will probably never change here is the waiting and administering time...If you make an appointment, most places honor that, but if you make one here and come through, BE PREPARED TO WAIT. You might have to clear out your calendar for the rest of the day if anything... Anyway, I'm glad that PP is open for business for anyone who needs it. I didn't have insurance for awhile so this place really came in handy! As far as the staff goes, I never really had any problems with them. They were really nice for the most part, some more so than others. I've been here 3 times, front desk lady is curteous, patient and prompt, could be a little friendlier but that could just be her personality. The nurses on the other hand are sweet, helpful, curteous ,respectful, caring and knowledgable. The wait can be a little long, not to bad (15 minutes depending on service going for) but overall for being a government provided health care service this place is great! read more

I was 10 minutes late due to an accident on the road and when I got to the front desk the receptionist told me they gave my appointment away and that the doctor would not be able to see me and I'd have to reschedule. The next appointment wasn't until two weeks later! Or I had the option to drive 40 minutes away to a few cities over. All because I was a few minutes late. That is some bullshit. So now I have to deal with my medical concern for two more weeks (which would probably make it worse) because I was a few minutes late. Extremely horrible service. Came back for a new prescription for bc pills. The Dr. said she will have someone fax it to any pharmacy of my choice (walmart). Came to walmart 3 damn times to find out 3 more times that someone faxed it to walgreens instead of walmart.. 3 MF times!! Even though I've received 3 apologies for that mix up, it doesn't make up for the time I've lost with this ridiculousness! This location is the closest to me so I been coming here often but it's honestly a hassle coming in because they take so long to call ur name up. Today how ever I walked in through that door at the exact time my appointment was scheduled, I stand in line and the receptionist is helping one person and i over here her telling the patient she has an open time at 11am (my appointment). I thought to myself, what ever right? So then the other receptionist calls up the lady that walked in the door after me and helps her. Again I think to myself no problem just be patient it's no big deal. I was already having a frustrating morning. So when it's my turn to go up I tell her I'm there for my appointment and she tells me I'm late and they gave my appointment to someone else. They gave me the option to reschedule or wait. I thought that was very unprofessional, and it really disappointed me because even if I didn't arrive 15 minutes early I still arrived on time, they considered me late because I was standing in line and they decided to help another lady who walked in the door about a minute after me. First of all the parking lot for this place is always filled with annoying gangster looking teenagers. I know this planned parenthood is next to a school but no matter what time I've gone here morning or afternoon, they are always there. This last time they were blasting music and smoking, so for that reason I hate coming here. Inside the people that check you in are usually nice, nurses are okay and they do most of their work quickly but when you have to see a doctor be prepared to wait. Have at least 3 hours free because you will need it. I had an appointment and got here 20 minutes early to check in. Had to do paperwork and 10 minutes after my appointment time I was called in. They made me go back out and wait after speaking to a nurse because they only had 1 doctor for everyone. Waited about an hour and was seen for less than 5 minutes by the doctor, after her I was able to get what I needed and leave. I like planned parenthood because of the help the provide, but the wait is always horrible and some staff is too but I don't complain because I'm getting their services free and I make sure to not have anything to do close to my appointment time. Another thing that sucks is when they ask you for donations but when you say you don't have anything they are super rude to you, not everyone just some. I've donated a couple of times when I have money but i hate when they are rude when you don't have anything. read more
