DO NOT GO HERE. I'm all about planned parenthood and the services they provide, and I advocate for them every chance I get. HOWEVER, if you do decide to come, for gods sake, do not bother to make an appointment. Both of the administrative women up front just explained to me they "take people based on walk in time", yet admitted that the person scheduled at 6:50 showed up right on time and although I arrived at 6:30 for my 6:55 appointment, I was still to be seen after them. I wouldn't be so mad if their system made sense, or the people working up front knew how to explain such a process. You make no sense!! read more

In the light of what has happened yesterday in Colorado, I cannot say more positive feedback about the quality of services offered by planned parenthood. One must understand that planned parenthood is more than abortion. I went there because, as an international student, between my undergrad and graduate year, I was not able to have a health insurance. They provided me with the basic services needed at the lowest costs including my yearly exam and birth control. Going against planned parenthood is going against women especially those who can't afford visits to specialists. I donated today and encourage everyone to donate a little to this organization that has been under fire recently. read more

I actually give the clinic 6 stars. I had to wait much longer than normal as some other cases took longer but besides that every one and I mean everyone was kind caring and wonderful. The staff was great from the receptionist (who rocked a vintage look) to the MD who had a great bedside manner to the NP who made me feel less vulnerable. i'm not gonna lie, i don't have too much experience with pplm but i do appreciate the service they provide for boston and i have found that the staff are friendly and respectful down to the security guard who keeps all the crazies out. they are also very cost effective! my doctor gave me a prescrip for OTL and walgreens tried to get me to pay $40 for 1 month! after one exam free appointment you can get a year's worth of your choice of birth control and PPLM charges only $25/m and gives free condoms to any and all who ask which is really important. reproductive health care is so vital, and pplm makes it accessible for those who can and can't afford it with their sliding scale fees. read more

As much as I want to write a good review about this place, I can't give it props it doesn't deserve. I am currently sitting here at 11:26 am after have made an appointment a week prior for 8:15am. YES it has been three hours so far and I am still waiting. I have seen people come in and out & sure they could be here for a different reason but at the same time, I don't see any effort in getting me out of here anytime soon. Apparently we have nothing else we need to do with our day but wait around. Idk if they are understaffed but they definitely need to work on this especially since majority of us don't live close by so it would be great to come in, get everything done and just leave. read more

I Must say what a pleasant experience, We did have to get by some ugly woman out front but was meet inside by an delight young man who was the police officer. He calmed my daughter down even gave her a tissue cause she started to cry. All the health center people were great as well. On the plus side: - easy scheduling - empathetic nurses and doctors, spend time with you and strive to do their best in absence of any equipment On the flip side: - NOBODY EVER CALLS YOU BACK with your test results and prescription info. If you missed their call with test results, you will never ever get to speak with a nurse. The receptionists on the phone are telling you they dont have any information and the nurse will of course call back - and guess what, after I called there 2 times nobody took the time to call back within 5 DAYS!!! Ultimately, what matters is that you get your treatment on time and not just schedule a visit with ease. Can't be more disappointed - waste of time and money it seems. And my UTI has gotten worse and I cant even get help from them, what a callous service. Also, if you require anything more than just exam and very basic tests, don't bother, the clinic provides just very basic services and lacks even ultrasound equipment, which is alright I think - if you ultimately manage to squeeze any information from them after your visit. read more

While the doctors here are great, the wait time is absolutely ridiculous. Every time I have come in with a scheduled appointment I have waited over an hour to get in. There is zero time management here whatsoever. I will no longer be going here. People have lives outside of their appointments and there is seemingly no care for anybody's time. I went to this location for the first time recently for a pap smear. I was a bit nervous about going to a Planned Parenthood because of the protesters you'll usually find hanging around. Despite my initial nervousness, it was a really nice experience. The entire staff was really friendly and welcoming, and I immediately felt comfortable once inside. The doctor I saw did her job quickly and professionally, but she still seemed genuinely interested in talking through any problems I had. I brought a concern to her, and she explained her thoughts about it, how we'd check it out, etc., and really put my mind at ease. Even though it was the end of the business day, I never felt rushed. I'd definitely visit again. read more

I can't say enough positive things about this Planned Parenthood. The security guard/man who protects the door was really nice and patient, even though he must have answered the same questions 109 times that day. The receptionist was really sweet as well as well as informative. The nurse responded to most of my questions as well and the clinician was very informative. I really liked everyone there! It was a bit of a wait as some of the comments said but you have to remember the organization is severely under funded and serves a large group of people and tries to give quality care. I went in appointment for my annual appointment about 2 months ago and was less than pleased with my experience. Just as some background, i have been going to the saratoga ny planned parenthood for their services for 5 years now and have been on the same birth control pill for 4 years. To start off at this boston location, I had an appointment at 5:30 and wasn't seen until 6..I know things can happen but it's still annoying. So I get into the exam room and the physician comes in and tells me I don't need an annual (my last one was a year before that...and it is called an "annual" so I don't understand why I wouldn't need one) but why would I argue with the doctor? So she tells me I just need the birth control appointment..okay fine. All of a sudden she tells me she's going to put me on a different pill. Umm lady it's been 4 years I've been on the same one and just told you I have no complaints. She didn't go into any other options either and definitely didn't want to have a discussion about it. I had to prompt her about side effects, how it could affect my other prescription that I'm on, and instructions on switching. It was all so fast and rushed and I felt like I was pushed into something I never asked for nor wanted. All in all I felt very uncomfortable there. I will not be returning to this location and have scheduled an annual for my regular planned parenthood back in new York for this week. read more

I went in yesterday for an IUD procedure and was so nervous! The staff was so amazing and made me feel more knowledge about all my options before we started. My technician was incredible and made me feel at ease even when the pain was a bit intense. She even wiped my tears away after the procedure was over! so i just moved to the boston area. I have no dr. yet. haven't even changed my insurance to MA yet. But I have a lump in my breast and its been wearing on my mind.... so this morning i got up on a mission and decided to try a walk in apt at the planned parent hood. I've never lived anywhere that the planned parenthood had walk in appointments unless you were in crisis. I figured i would sit for hours. NOPE. i walked in at 2:00. was checked in at 2:15 and asked to fill in paper work. The girl apologized to me that the next walk-in apt wasn't until 3:00. At 2:50 i was called back and seen. I saw a midwife- who was fantastic and super knowledgeable. She got my girl bits all checked out and referred me to a breast clinic for an ultra-sound. We had a great talk about how I should not use certain types of birth control because I get migraines with aura's and certain pills up the %rate for aneurysm in people with migraines. And she sent me on my way. I was out the door in a really reasonable period of time but never felt rushed. .. they even dealt with my out-of-state insurance. Yay planned parenthood. I went in today for what was supposed to be an IUD procedure. Thankfully the person doing it noticed that I have several fibroids. She was concerned that their size and location could affect the placement of the IUD and could also potentially move it if the fibroids were to move/grow. So she recommends the shot instead. I'm really glad someone caught that before I had a possibly painful procedure that wasn't the right choice of birth control for me. Everyone else I spoke with was very professional. The wait was only about 20 mins then after that it was quick. Be prepared to possibly see a protester or two. I've got no problem telling them to mind their business, like I did today read more

The only reason I gave Planned Parenthood 2 stars is because of the first impression. I went in to Planned Parenthood just last Friday. Right away when I had entered the office the receptionist gave me a really dirty look. I had gone in with my 14-month-old daughter because my sister was not able to watch her for me. There is no reason why I should have gotten a look like that. Daughter had taken her first steps in the office, so naturally I was really excited and started to take pictures with my cell phone. The receptionist tells me, with the most ridiculous attitude that my phone has to be turned off. My phone was off. But I was still able to use my camera. So, when the nurse called my name I was not yet ready because I had been chasing my daughter around because she started to get really fussy in the stroller. I was not able to fully fill out the paper work I had been given. The receptionist tells the nurse with a very nasty tone that I was not ready because I was too busy taking pictures. I took 2 pictures and fought with my daughter the rest of the time about her running around. Everyone who has kids know that when you bring a child in for your Dr. appointment it's going to be a frustrating experience. Other than that my experience was a good one. The nurse who treated me was very nice. She was even able to have someone watch my daughter while I had my exams and the IUD taken. read more

I have nothing but amazing things to say about the quality of care at this PP location. I went in for services yesterday I was highly nervous about, and randomly when I was in an office with a woman who was giving me information about my service, I started feeling faint and after a bit had to throw up in her trash can. By the time I came to, there were two nurses in the room, one was fanning me with pamphlets and the other had a shot ready that would significantly reduce my nausea. The woman I had been speaking to in the information room had taken the hair clip OFF HER OWN HEAD and used it to help hold my hair back while i was throwing up. I was so embarrassed but they genuinely assured me it was totally fine and I didn't have to be sorry--- bottom line, I was a complete stranger to these women yet they were able to make me feel almost as if I was family. And that's a VERY bold statement because I've been to other planned parenthoods in more rural areas and this would NEVER be the case... in my experience you almost always feel alienated at these clinics, but I never once felt that way here. These women CARE! Even the security guy when I walked in was upbeat and very friendly. I also have MassHealth and didn't have to pay a dime for my services that day, yet I still was able to receive unbelievable care and compassion from the professionals in this office. Thank you women (and men) in history who fought to make Planned Parenthood available to us and thank you to the hardworking staff of today for the love you put into your job and for making me feel SO comfortable despite the pain I was in and the nerves I felt. read more

PP on Comm Ave is as good as it gets. I had wanted an IUD (Paragard) for a couple years, but my primary care physician was unwilling to give me one since I have not yet had children. (If anyone gives you this line, by the way, it's not because it's actually unsafe -- the FDA has approved IUDs for use in nulliparous women. Some physicians just dislike doing it.) I called PP for an IUD insertion and they were able to fit me in the next day. No protesters when I walked in (Thursday, early afternoon), and the security guard was very nice. When I arrived (an hour before my appointment, just to be safe) I was cheerfully greeted and handed some paperwork, and then -- this was just GREAT! -- the friendly receptionist said that she had called and pre-verified my insurance, and she told me in plain English what my payment obligations would be (i.e., "you've reached your deductible, the cost will be 80% covered, and you don't pay now -- you'll get a bill later"). Although I'd done this prior, this was simply a WONDERFUL service they provided, and something I really appreciated in terms of making insurance terms understandable to everyone. They did have my information on file from a previous visit, so I guess this can happen if you've been here before using the same insurance. I can't get over what a lovely thing this was to do for patients. I was called within 10 minutes of receiving my paperwork (probably about a half hour before my appointment was scheduled!) and the medical assistants and the PA that attended to me were all intensely cool, respectful and informative. I had been told to take 800mg of ibuprofen an hour beforehand, but had forgotten to bring it, and the awesome PA came in with a cup of water and some ibuprofen for me before we even began the procedure. :) I hadn't had a pelvic exam or a pap smear before, so the whole "speculum" bit was pretty funky for me as a first-timer. But the whole time, the PA narrated her process for me (which was very comforting) and was completely chilled-out (in a very professional way, of course). I felt like I could ask any question I needed to at any time. They even thoughtfully provided a heating pad for the cramping that comes up during the procedure. I left feeling completely supported in my choices, my questions and my reproductive health. PP is really a miracle. Some day when I have disposable income, they will be the first people I'm writing a check to. read more

I was without insurance for a little while this year because I was in between jobs. I just needed my prescription for my birth control renewed. I had a wonderful experience with the nurses and doctor. I have endometriosis, and I've been to terrible ob-gyns who I'd see for the first time and they'd make ridiculous recommendations for my care. (Usually trying to push the semi-experimental drug treatment du jour) The doctor I saw was a great listener and didn't try to pressure me into changing my treatment. It was also inexpensive, both for the treatment and pills. The only downside is that the wait was very long. I drove and managed to find street parking but during my lengthy time in the waiting room I had to run out to refeed the meter. I think it's mostly one hour meters around there, so next time I'll probably take the T or the 57 bus. read more

I am pretty impressed with the service here. I have gone a few times for prescription refills when I couldn't get to my regular pcp. I just did the walk in service and was seen within 20 minutes which is amazing because it would be months before I could see my regular doctor. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and the waiting room area was clean and comfortable. Every time I've gone the clinicians I had were friendly, respectful, and listened to my needs. I would recommend going here if you can't wait months to see your regular doctor. read more

Despite my complaints with the place, the fact is, it is easier to get an appointment here than anywhere else. Besides, I feel like since I've done one review, I should keep doing them, so people that may read my thoughts are better informed. The last time I went here it was fine, but there was a major gaffe. I did some testing, then an interview with a medical assistant (?) or other junior staff member. Then I waited around for 45 minutes. Then I was told to go wait in another room, that was the wrong one. Then I waited some more. Then when the physician arrived she asked me the same question the medical assistant asked. I answered the same way. The physician told me "well then there's no need to check up on anything," in so many words. I asked, why not do so anyway since I'm here and you're here? She said there was nothing to see. Later I get a bill from my insurance company saying that this visit was going to cost me $45. Needless to say I did not pay it since it was not my error and I was not provided with any services. My other complaint was that due to my insurance, simple STD testing cost me $50. Hardly seems like a fair price for someone working 55+ hours a week at a low wage, and shelling out $70+ a month for the best insurance I could get. Not entirely PP's fault, but how come no one is talking about affordability? Inequality WITHIN healthcare? And so on. I would think PP would care more about this than say, abortion, which while important, is a small fraction of their services. read more

What an awful experience. I tried to make an appointment online, where I could only choose general times and days: I didn't show up in their system as having an appointment. I tried to call to confirm my day and time: The number didn't work. Finally, in desperation, I tried to show up as a walk-in. I was made to feel embarassed, and judged, as though I were wildly irresponsible. All I wanted was to get some pills. So I'm sorry, but I was under the impression that you tried to help women with that. My mistake. read more

This is only getting 2 stars for the nurse staff and receptionists. I went in for a yeast infection (very run of the mill) and the practitioner I saw immediately said, before even examining me, that she was concerned I had an STD....which would mean my live in boyfriend of 4 years would have had to have cheated on me. She didn't explain the symptoms of the STD or anything. By the time I left she said she was 50/50 on whether or not I actually had that. Went home and looked up the symptoms.....not even close to what I was presenting. Wish she could have just given me treatment without totally freaking me out or telling me "that's probably bad news, right?" Without concrete test results available. I didn't think that was great bedside manor. I really liked the nurses there but didn't love that this practitioner didn't handle this situation sensitively. I won't be going back unless there's some kind of vagina emergency. read more

I wish I never went there, I should have just made an appointment at a regular medical centers like Tuft's. first of all, I ended up waiting 2 hours to see the nurse. My office visit was to get birth control and I stated that as the primary reason. They offered unnecessary lab tests, for which I ended up paying from my own pocket. They told me I could go get the pills from the pharmacy of my choice the next day. It never happened. I went to the pharmacy every day for 3 weeks and nothing was under my name. I made several phone calls to planned parenthood and they kept telling me they already sent it to pharmacy. Pharmacy didn't receive anything from planned parenthood. I got upset, called to planned parenthood one more time while at pharmacy, and guess what, they finally admitted no pharmacy was added on my profile!! What a waste of time! But they again reassured me they sent the note and in an hour I could get it from my pharmacy. Never happened. Until today, I haven't received any pills, for which I paid the full price. This planned parenthood keeps lying to me it was sent. Pharmacy cannot find any information under my name. What's worse, they charged the full price upfront. They billed a wrong code to my insurance, instead of saying birth control which was supposed to be covered by my insurance, they billed as regular office visit. Believe me, they don't know what they are doing. Now I'm fighting with insurance because everything that was supposed to be covered is not covered and planned parenthood charged that amount from my credit card the same day. This is like scam, they were supposed to know birth control is covered, but by specifically billing a wrong code, they took my money. What's worse, they never sent me my pills, for which I already paid. Stay away from this place, go to your normal medical center, talk to your primary care and you can prescription from them easily. This place is a total scam. read more

I appreciated the lengths this organization goes to create a safe, welcoming environment. Everything was clean, organized, and all the staff were friendly and professional. However, if you need to go in for medical testing, this place is definitely not cheap or efficient, even with insurance. I had to fill out reams of paperwork at the office, and still did not receive my test results (as in, mailed to me on paper) for almost a month, after a lot of hassle and extra charges (they only take checks for medical record requests, even if they have your credit card on file). In all, I still appreciate what Planned Parenthood accomplishes in community health on such a low budget and facing so much opposition. read more

Honestly this place is amazing. It's such a good resource to have-I got there early for my appointment and was seen ten minutes before my scheduled appointment time, everyone was super helpful from check-in to check out and it was all very confidential and respectful. Also, since I'm 17, i never realized the kind of healthcare I had access to and assumed I had to be 18 to access birth control on my own, but as it turns out, you do not have to be 18 and I'm so happy I learned that and now thanks to PPLM I'm able to be much safer and educated on sexual health. Can't rate it high enough-im so thankful this place exists. read more

While the staff is friendly and tries to be helpful, in my experience they are not familiar with their own policies, billing procedures, or costs of service. When I went there for my first exam I called and was told it would be a half-hour wait at most if I came in within the hour. I arrived there 15 minutes later and there weren't any available appointments for 3 hours. I also tried to figure out how much the visit would cost, since my insurance doesn't work out of New York state. I was told it would be around $200 for a visit, and that if I opted out of the STD testing it would be $150. In the end, even though I didn't get the testing, the bill totaled $250. I got what I needed (a prescription for birth control) and promptly left. Fast forward a month to when I actually need to use that script. In the meantime my father (who insures me) lost our prescription coverage due to retirement. I called planned parenthood asking if I could bring the script in and how much it would cost, and I was told I qualified for the sliding scale and since I'm an unemployed college student I could get 13 months free all at once. The person told me to go to the Cambridge location, so I did. I get there and the tell me that they can't process the sliding scale in Cambridge, go to the Boston location tomorrow. Also learned that I couldn't get a year's worth of pills because I'm not under 18, but I was still reassured that I could get 3 months for free because of my financial status. I go to Boston the next day and am told that they essentially don't believe me and that I can either pay full price for the pills or call the supervisor and come in (again!) later. I opted to buy as many pills as they would let me at full price just so that I could wash my hands of the situation. They didn't have a full year's prescription in stock (makes you wonder how they give a full year for free to the under-18s...) so I payed $250 for 10 months of pills. Quite a difference when I was originally told by two people, including one supervisor, that they would be free. My advice is if you are over 18 and have ANY other option take it. If you have a real health concern and don't just need birth control it would be in your best interest to see an actual gynecologist, preferably a PA or an MD/DO. Though the exam was adequate, the NPs that work in these clinics get in the practice of performing "cook-book" medicine and aren't prepared for anything but what they do on a day-to-day basis. Also, they accidentally gave me another patient's receipt that contained her social security number, telephone, and address. Pretty sure that is a HIPPA violation if I've ever seen one. If you have had any insurance ever in your life be prepared to pay hundreds of dollars for, in my opinion, substandard care. However, for many women (including me) this is the only option, and I am grateful that an option even exists. read more

1 star for lack of a worse choice! They are rude, unprofessional and irresponsible. As her husband, I was refused from the beginning to attend their exams or counseling with my wife. I could put up with that, even though it is my right to be there and listen to what they have to say and ask questions if I have any. But then when my wife's blood pressure went down, they stopped informing me about her health situation, refused to let me see her, refused to take her out of the room, even though she only had an IV. Worst of all, they did not give me any explanations, and after I got angry, called the security guy to walk me out. So they screwed up; why can't they give me any reassurance or any explanations? Why refusing to let me see and be with my wife? They are irresponsible, and careless. If you have to do it, go see your doctor, and get a proper referral and do it in a hospital, with professionals. I did not even see a doctor there! and am not sure who does the surgical procedure if needed. That was my first time and somebody else from our doctor's office made the decision for us. Next time, I'll insist on seeing the doctor and get some serious advice. read more

Went in for basic birth control as I have never used it before. The nurse was mean and rude, totally unhelpful. Waited in the room alone for over 50 mins. I left more confused and wasted an entire afternoon. Just go to your regular OBGYN for b.c questions if you want to be treated like a person and not just a name on a sheet. read more

The receptionist here is very sweet & doesn't judge you based on what you're coming there for... However I wasn't a fan of the security guard before entering the main reception area. He took things out of my back that weren't even opened ( packaged food & drink). But somehow left something that could be potentially harmful in my bag. He doesn't check thoroughly but has a bad demeanor on top of that. I asked if I could leave my bag in the hallway because I hadn't opened my things. He had a smart remark like "Well this isn't a 7/11 you can't just leave things here!" For a place made for women, the guards need to be more friendly for women. read more

Why do the receptionists at PHood have to be so rude? I currently don't have insurance and really needed to have my birth control refilled and thought they could help. Don't make the mistake of just showing up and asking what they can do for you....the answer will be "nothing." Long story short, I was really in a bind after losing my last ortho pack from a real doctor, and the bitches at PHood- and I stress- HOOD- treated me as if I was a teen mother trying to get free pills to sell to my underage friends! The receptionist actually accused me of not losing my pills (which I pay a lot for w/o insurance anyways) and trying to scam the office. I was shocked/disturbed/disgusted by the way they treated me. I sent an email to the director of the regional division and told her what happened/why I was so upset, explained I could not be without my birth control until my next cycle (which is what the woman at the desk told me....no appointment, no pills) Almost immediately a very kind woman replied with her personal cell phone number to boot, and when I called it, she told me she had already directly called my local branch office and arranged for me to have my pills picked up whenever I could get down there....THAT DAY! Overall I know how hard these people work, but as someone who is not typically the "Planned Parenthood type" I was disappointed in how I was treated. If you ever have any trouble with the Cambridge office, just go online and and get in touch with one of the higher-ups in the company....fabulous people!
