I needed to get a pap test and didn't want to drive all the way out to my OB/GYN in Orange County, especially because they book out far in advance. Thought I would check if Planned Parenthood had availability and they could do the very next day. I saw nurse practitioner Yvy and she was so flipping wonderful. Genuinely great person and quality medical professional. She did a breast exam, urine sample, and the pap test. She was also super thorough in her questions and advice. As someone who has worked in medical adjacent positions, I could tell she knew her stuff. I hadn't had a Pap test in three years and because I had needed a colposcopy for abnormal power results in the past, I was sort of nervous to get another Pap test done. But it was so quick, comfortable, just an overall really good experience. I absolutely loved NP Yvy. It felt like I had known her for years, the conversation was so friendly and easy. I love planned parenthood!!! Today I got my nexplanon removed and replaced, and the entire process from check in to finish was less than 45 minutes. I make it a point to handle whatever I can at planned parenthood because they're always very polite and patient vs regular doctors. Aftercare was explained very politely, and they always send you home with a goody bag! I always have very attentive doctors who you can tell really take the time to listen to your concerns and treat you with a level of respect and compassion that is hard to find these days in most other doctors offices. If you need care and don't have one of these two insurances (Blue Shield of California or Oscar Health), you'll be told by the phone appointment scheduling to come out of pocket $300 for office visits and additional money for any necessary lab/testing. I informed the phone representative of my inability to pay those costly amounts out of pocket and asked about other forms to lower the cost or make the costs more accessible. The rep did not offer any options for that location and told me to seek other care from different facilities. The website for the location says "We'll never turn you away from the care you need because of your inability to pay" and that's disingenuous considering that is exactly what happened to me. The location-specific website also says "We accept many private and public insurance plans" but, in reality, they only accept 2 (the ones I mentioned in the first paragraph). Good luck coming here if you have different insurance from the two insurance options they cover or if you're working class with low/moderate income. Reproductive health clinics *subsidized in part by member donations* should be accesible. Makes you wonder why STI/STD transmission rates have increased exponentially in the past decade. read more
