Over a ten year period they raised my rent an average of 25% every year. The average rate of inflation was 3.3% per year during that period. My initial rate of $154 ballooned to $388 per month. Why didn't I move? I had built shelves for my unit and hated the hassle of disassembling them and moving. But the main reason is I'm an idiot. I now pay $125 per month for a similar unit where long term tenants tell me raises in rent are seldom and modest.
