They referred me to the Rolling Green team. Pete came out put together a custom quote based on my yards needs. I pre-payed for the year and they'd just come out per their schedule, zip around the yard and leave a note on the front door. Quite literally a set it and forget it scenario. The yard stayed green all year and was easily fuller and more lush than our adjourning neighbor. Sorry guys! I also decided to give their mosquito abatement program too. Our yard is fairly wooded and there is a wetland/pond area within 100 yards of our property. I've traditionally used those yard sprays you connect to a hose in the past with limited success. Was it perfect? No, BUT it was markedly better than anything that I was doing in the past. Like a lot better. I could be in yard after dusk without being swarmed. And it lasted for weeks versus the couple of days the other stuff would provide. Just signed another contract for this year to continue the progress. Crabgrass was really starting to recede last year and I'm looking forward to having it gone.

Our landscaping project was major, regrading front and backyard, sodding,removing old and building retaining wall with drainage pipe, cleared out our messy shrub, tree infested backyard to make way for a new fence that is being installed. I was willing to pick up burr oak rounds that Total Tree Care had left in a customer's driveway at Red Oak Drive in Highland Park, Illinois, as Total Tree Care did not want to pay to discard (thus, "free" rounds). In 2012, Emerald Tree Care (ie. Wayne White) began treating my 4 ash trees that were planted in…read more1999. Two of the 4 ash trees are in my front and back yard and 2 are located in the parkway. The treatment consists of 2 steps; a liquid soil application around the base of the tree followed by an injection of insecticide into the trunk in multiple locations. The trees grew and matured beautifully thanks to Wayne's yearly treatment. Beginning in 2014, the City of Naperville began treating all ash trees planted on city property and those planted on the street parkways. As a result, Wayne discontinued treatment on those 2 trees. Beginning in the summer of 2016, the health of one of the parkway ash trees deteriorated very quickly and in early 2017, the City of Naperville removed the tree saying it was a casualty of the Ash Borer. I confirmed with the city that the treatment regimen they used was different from Wayne's, although I do not know what chemicals were used The city either treats the soil around the trees OR injects the trunks of larger trees with a borer-fighting chemical whereas Emerald Tree Care does both. Surely the city decision was based on cost The one parkway ash that was removed was only given a soil application. The 2 trees on my property that Wayne continues to treat are beautiful and thriving. Wayne also treats my 2 crabapple trees for seasonal apple scab and recently met me on my property to discuss pruning opportunities. I trust and rely on Wayne and his company to keep my trees healthy and beautiful. I highly recommend Wayne White and Emerald Tree Care.

After not hearing back for a month or more, they finally reached back out with an automated google form asking if I still wanted service. Guy finally showed up but spent a short time here and didn't bother to answer any questions. Fast forward, got a quote that didn't really address my concerns about the trees, but did say they had several diseases. I followed up 4 times in email and 3 times on the phone with questions but never got responses / no one answered. Finally, I got Davey to come out and they answered all my questions, and saw no signs of the disease that Emerald claimed to have seen.

I talked with a new landscaper for snow removal a couple of months ago, but I chose to stay with Hardscape for my lawn service since I never had any problems. That was an unfortunate decision. Rather than go into all the unpleasant details, I will give advice. 1) Hardscape does not warranty their work, so purchase your own bushes, trees, etc. so you at least have a warranty from the nursery. 2) You will never receive advice or instructions, even when requested, so do some research before you have more than basic maintenance performed 3) Always keep all your receipts and check your invoices carefully. 4) They will offer to redo a botched​ job, but completely at your expense. Save yourself a lot of frustration and just chalk it up to experience​ and move on. 5) Hire a different landscaper.

My wife and I purchased our very first home this past September and we needed a complete overhaul…read moreof our lawn. We needed existing grass removed, land leveled, underground drainage installed, new sod laid, etc. We were recommended to Marty's Landscaping, and we have no clue why...they should not be in the landscaping business. They have ruined our home, and what should be one of the most enjoyable experiences in our lives. We spent a good deal of money with them, and it has all been a waste. We no longer can move forward with other projects to make our first home ours, we now have to spend our savings to fix what they have done. The only positive is that they were quick to come out for a free estimate. That is it, no other positives. Horrible, horrible, horrible communication. We were eager to have this start but we were left wondering when. They are terrible with returning phone calls, so we were just left in the unknown. When they finally did show, they didn't not communicate a timeline of the project. As time progressed the yard started to take shape. They didn't show for a few days so we had to call multiple times to ask if they thought they were finished, as there were areas that still needed attended to. Finally we got to assume it was finished, as it appeared the new sod was laid everywhere. This is our first home, our first lawn, and they gave us no advice or direction from here. Only one time during this process did they reach out with any semblance of advice, and it was to ask if we could water the different areas of the lawn for 20 minutes each this particular night. When a customer pays as much as they do for this type of service, you would think they would invest in some customer service skills. They did say they would be out twice over the first 30 days to maintain the lawn by mowing, edging, etc., how nice. They still have not showed and it has been two weeks since completion. We had received quite a bit of rain during this process, but we noticed the new sod had turned brown within 2 days of job completion. We called several times before getting a call back, and let them know about this. It is clearly unacceptable to pay for a complete overhaul of a lawn and have the grass go dead after 2 days. Marty said it could be that the sod is not attaching, not enough dirt, etc. It took several back and forth attempts before finally someone apparently came over to check the situation. My wife and I both work during the day, so we are typically not around for anything that has been happening in our yard. They could clearly see something was wrong, as 75% or more of yard showed partial browning or looked completely dead. They told us not to worry and that they would take care of it, they had to talk with the supplier of the sod. Did I mention that we already had paid cash for this job? There was no incentive for Marty to make things right, and it took over a week for someone to come out from the supplier. No communication on Marty's end during this time, we were left calling every day for status updates. Well, supposedly the supplier came out and said that the sod was fine. The sod used for the next two jobs after ours was fine. Well, as you can see from the pictures I attached, the sod is not fine. Something is clearly wrong as we have paid for a dead lawn. Our yard was in terrible shape before this process started, but it looked better than this. We are now left being told to water the yard for the next week and see what happens. The amount of stress caused by this company, lost savings, time, etc., we feel completely ripped off and vulnerable. I under no circumstances would ever recommend Marty's Landscaping to anyone, and I wish we never were. Hopefully this review and the complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau, will give others a chance to avoid them at all costs.

He seems to keep a lot of the same workers so he must pay them pretty well and treat them respectfully. Step up the look of your property and hire this guy!
