We obtained several estimates and decided to go with a well-established contractor, Pavestone Brick Paving, based on their reputation and experience. (We decided against hiring landscapers who also installed pavers even though their quotes were somewhat lower.) We visited some paver driveways that Pavestone constructed in our village and were impressed with the quality of their work. We also were bolstered by a visit to their facility in Des Plaines where we met the office staff and viewed the construction equipment. From start to finish, the experience was smooth and pleasant. We worked with Sergio, and I was completely satisfied with the service that he provided. From his initial visit to our house, through the discussions of the quotation, and conversations during the ongoing work, he displayed a pleasant demeanor and maintained contact with us, by phone and email. I felt quite comfortable working with him. He made useful suggestions during the planning process, such as rerouting the lower section of our downspouts below ground to discharge into our yard. I was also pleased that he was able to replace an unneeded section of our old driveway with sod. He provided samples of paver stones to assist us in choosing the best fit for our house and even created computer-generated renderings, depicting our house and driveway with the selected pavers installed (see photo). The job began about a month after we signed the contract. The crew of 5 men, led by Hector, worked tirelessly over a period of 6.5 days, in heat and occasional (light) rain, leading to a very attractive outcome. Each worker knew exactly what to do, and the team did their job in concert like a well-oiled machine. (See the photos which depict the progress of the project, from start to finish.) We are quite pleased with the outcome; the result is an attractive driveway that has become the envy of my neighbors. I have received many compliments from them in the days following completion. In summary, Pavestone Brick Paving transformed the worn and aged look of our driveway and walkways into an aesthetically appealing complement to our house's facade. If I could give negative stars, I would. This company is terribly disorganized and run a dishonest…read morebusiness. Amongst the litany of issues (forgetting our property during last year's cleanup resulting in a poor job done, cutting down ALL my perennials when we were out of town and admitting they knew they shouldn't have done it and refusing to replace them) the worst was their fall cleanup this year. Instead of removing the debris, grass clippings, and leaves, Michael and team piled EVERYTHING on my street. When confronted on the phone, he said he "called it in" and that the city would come to pick it up. This is illegal as the Village of Glenview clearly doesn't clean up after landscapers (it's on the city's website, even). After weeks and the huge snowstorm, the giant pile was still there, spread down the block by the plow, and also across the street at my elderly neighbor's (she is unfortunately a client as well). I called the city to ask for a record of him "calling it in" and they said that's not possible, they wouldn't clean it up, and there was no record. I called Michael back and he said, "well, I didn't REALLY call it in, but told some random guy in a street sweeper in another neighborhood to come clean it up. So, it's on the Village." He tried to double down saying there was already a small pile there, and he just added to it. Even if that were the case (ring camera footage shows it's not), a landscaper is never meant to just leave a full fall cleanup on the street. At the same time, he forgot my other neighbor's property on the opposite corner, came back to do her lawn, TOOK HER LEAVES AWAY, and left ours on the road. She was home that day, saw everything, and said would corroborate what I'm stating here if ever necessary. Michael refused to give me a refund, and left me holding the bag - I had to manage getting the huge pile of leaves cleaned up on my own. Moreover, I'll have to replace all the perennials this spring that were not meant to be cut down. If you want the worst possible lawn care service, go for Perfect Lawn and Snow.

We needed existing grass removed, land leveled, underground drainage installed, new sod laid, etc. We were recommended to Marty's Landscaping, and we have no clue why...they should not be in the landscaping business. They have ruined our home, and what should be one of the most enjoyable experiences in our lives. We spent a good deal of money with them, and it has all been a waste. We no longer can move forward with other projects to make our first home ours, we now have to spend our savings to fix what they have done. The only positive is that they were quick to come out for a free estimate. That is it, no other positives. Horrible, horrible, horrible communication. We were eager to have this start but we were left wondering when. They are terrible with returning phone calls, so we were just left in the unknown. When they finally did show, they didn't not communicate a timeline of the project. As time progressed the yard started to take shape. They didn't show for a few days so we had to call multiple times to ask if they thought they were finished, as there were areas that still needed attended to. Finally we got to assume it was finished, as it appeared the new sod was laid everywhere. This is our first home, our first lawn, and they gave us no advice or direction from here. Only one time during this process did they reach out with any semblance of advice, and it was to ask if we could water the different areas of the lawn for 20 minutes each this particular night. When a customer pays as much as they do for this type of service, you would think they would invest in some customer service skills. They did say they would be out twice over the first 30 days to maintain the lawn by mowing, edging, etc., how nice. They still have not showed and it has been two weeks since completion. We had received quite a bit of rain during this process, but we noticed the new sod had turned brown within 2 days of job completion. We called several times before getting a call back, and let them know about this. It is clearly unacceptable to pay for a complete overhaul of a lawn and have the grass go dead after 2 days. Marty said it could be that the sod is not attaching, not enough dirt, etc. It took several back and forth attempts before finally someone apparently came over to check the situation. My wife and I both work during the day, so we are typically not around for anything that has been happening in our yard. They could clearly see something was wrong, as 75% or more of yard showed partial browning or looked completely dead. They told us not to worry and that they would take care of it, they had to talk with the supplier of the sod. Did I mention that we already had paid cash for this job? There was no incentive for Marty to make things right, and it took over a week for someone to come out from the supplier. No communication on Marty's end during this time, we were left calling every day for status updates. Well, supposedly the supplier came out and said that the sod was fine. The sod used for the next two jobs after ours was fine. Well, as you can see from the pictures I attached, the sod is not fine. Something is clearly wrong as we have paid for a dead lawn. Our yard was in terrible shape before this process started, but it looked better than this. We are now left being told to water the yard for the next week and see what happens. The amount of stress caused by this company, lost savings, time, etc., we feel completely ripped off and vulnerable. I under no circumstances would ever recommend Marty's Landscaping to anyone, and I wish we never were. Hopefully this review and the complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau, will give others a chance to avoid them at all costs.
