Wow!!! Loved this campsite and the camp hosts here! Came up and it was my first camping by the beach and wow, it was beautiful. The campsites were clean and access to sand dollar beach was amazing. Make sure you go during low tide though so you can actually walk down to the beach! My partner and I talked to the camp hosts and they were so sweet and accommodating. They made sure the campsites were clean and checked in with us. We will 100% be back here this year since we had such a great experience. Thank you Katie and James!! read more

This is a dry Campsite with water faucets in between two campsites. Large restrooms with toilet & sink the sink not in use, it has a bag covering it. No lighting inside be sure to have a flashlight of some kind for nighttime use. The camp host's were very friendly and informative. It is pet friendly our Corgi came home with quite a few ticks on him (6) we had never experienced that before. I suggest your pet be given some flea & tick meds prior to visiting campsite. We had a visit to the Vet and Archie is fine... We enjoyed our 3 nt. stay. It was March and the weather was perfect for hiking & walks on the beach. It rained one of the afternoon into evening while we were there, I would recommend staying here. read more

My first experience here and we absolutely loved it. I do have to say since booking is all done through recreation.gov app i really wish they would share a little more information on actual sites.... Site 32... the spot has some beautiful views. You are about 100 yards from the restrooms and wire spouts/ trash. The site is on completely uneven ground. After attempting to sleep in our tents night 1 we decided to sleep in our rooftop tent. All in all it's a beautiful campground. Tip: bring balancing boards to help balance the table and or your cot or mattress. read more

So the only problem with the campground is, there's no showers , no running water or soap to wash your hands.. there is no sanitation effort. so if you're planning on coming camping for more than 2 to 3 days, please be prepared.. other than that, it's a beautiful campground, across the highway is Sandollar beach coastal access.. however their bathrooms are not maintained and is very dirty and polluted... Big Sur is such a beautiful place. I am surprised that it is not well maintained. read more

The camp is really pretty and located in a good spot. The camp host, Michael, goes above and beyond. Really enjoyed the trip! Only issue is that there is not running water in the bathroom sinks. But facets all through the camp along the roadways. read more

Positive aspects: * Each campground has potable running water from a spigot. * Bathrooms are well maintained and have running water. * This campground is great because you can walk to Jade beach and other beach/hike opportunities. * It's not far from Lime Kilns state park and from Salmon Creek Falls! * Campsite #13 is particularly nice. * Wood is available for about $12 from the camp host. We were there in June 2023. Site 18. We had a wonderful time. The camp host we're awesome and gave us great suggestions for hikes with our kids. If you can bring your own firewood. At $15 per bushel it was a bit much but no other options around unless you bring your own. read more

This review is focused on , not the Campground, but the host that ruined our first impression of the site. We researched the availability on line the nite before we drove the 3hrs on the Harley-Davidson to make sure that we would have a site to spend the 4th of July. There were multiple sites available so we packed the bike and rode like the wind. We arrived about 12:40 pm to find a sign on the host camper that said they were "OFF DUTY" and do not knock on her door! So, we found the site that was clearly available by the expired reservation tag on the site marker post and set up our tent and unloaded the bike . 20 minutes later, here comes the "host" and proceeds to tell us to remove the tent and get the motorcycle off the site! I asked if we could go ahead and pay for the site a bit early, but she repeated her very unfriendly words and said we could be in the camp until 2pm. Her rudeness was seemingly out of place because we were very nice , but we packed everything again and rode along the Coast Highway for about 45 minutes and started our return ride to get back at 2pm. We arrived about 1:58 pm and she said again, "You cannot wait here!" I said where can we wait then? Her response..."anywhere but here". So I drove around the small circle drive to return to the check-in site at 2 pm and I had left the wife off of the bike so she could be in line for check-in. There were 3 sites available , and my wife was second in line, but this rude 'hostest' purposely skipped over us, and gave the sites to the #1, #3, and #4 persons in line! When my wife asked why she would not give her a site, the hoser said we was not here in time!! What a crock of shit she is! UN effing believable how she so openly discriminated against us as Asian and/or Motorcycle riders! This person should not be in this position. She is a RACIST! We left her with some very descriptive first ammendment expressions about her pedigree, and rode to the Hearst Castle area . We encountered a Host at the site there and He was not only nice but very kind as well. Just what you would expect from a qualified Host in America. We told him of our experience with the idiot up north and he recommended we write to her Manager. We plan on doing just that. Now, with that I must say that the Campground is beautiful and spacious, not counting the huge pot holes in all of the roads around the site. I can only imagine how nice it must be to camp there. This place doesn't even deserve a star at all! Let's start off with that! Camp host was extremely rude !! Her name is ADRI. She made us wait outside for like 15 minutes which we didn't mind.. because we understand people can be a bit busy but when she came out to ask what we needed she was so mean! And she didn't even come out she was talking to us through her RV window and told us to leave ! We drove 6 hours to come camping with our family for the weekend and she treated us like dogs! We even said "oh okay thank you anyways" super nice and she responded "yeah whatever get out of here" never felt so hurt by someone's behavior and clearly there was campsites open !! But it's okay because we will never return there ever again and always let people now to not go there because they are mean! Plus their campsites were dirty and trash everywhere ! Bags, papers, and bottles just laying everywhere like she didn't care about having it presettable! read more

Plaskett Creek is a great campground in South Big Sur. It's virtually across the street from Sand Dollar Beach, one of the sandiest beaches in the Big Sur area. We had a really pleasant experience staying here on a Friday & Saturday evening in the end of June. While in the midst of the pandemic, no masks were seen, but socially distancing was evident. The sinks were also out of commission, not sure if this is due to COVID or not. The campground is a decent mix of RVs / trailers and tents. There's clean bathrooms, water spickots, and firewood available. Most sites lack privacy, especially those in the middle of the campground, although some are obscured by trees / brush. Dogs are allowed on leash, so while the campground is generally quiet, there's some barking throughout. The proximity of this campground to beaches / views is pretty spectacular, and well worth the reservation. There's no service here for AT&T or Verizon, but that was part of the experience for us. If you need service, there's a shop with WiFi in Lucia (7 miles North). There's also a town nearby (Gorda, 3 miles South) for any provisions you might need. We reserved sites 10 & 11. Site 10 was adjacent to the camp host, which ended up being fine for us as they were respectful and didn't mind us listening to light music until 11pm or so. Site 11 was right next to the bathrooms and very close to many other sites. I would probably avoid site 11. In the future, I might book site 10 if it's a small group as it's decently private and has a small ocean view. read more

though it's a first come first serve basis, we got the last hiker/biker campsite for the busy holiday weekend which i am extremely grateful for. the host's were very helpful and kind. wood bundles are up right now for $15 so i would definitely recommend bringing your own. no working sinks but a clean bathroom (with no light, so bring your lanterns!) across the 1 from the campground is beautiful bluffs to overlook the pacific. overall an amazing trip and can't wait to camp there again. read more

AVOID CAMPSITE 6 IF TENT CAMPING! Our camping experience at campsite 6 is nothing but disappointing! Campsite 6 is the first site as you arrive in the campground, on the left side of the one-way road. My husband and I arrived on 6/22/2021 for one night stay. We noticed around early evening, maybe around 7pm, a loud gas generator noise started from the facility next to campsite 6, behind a DO NOT ENTER gate. The facility appeared to be the Los Padres National Forest staff admin or sleeping quarters. After observing an amazing sunset near the campsite entrance, we came back to our campsite 6 and the noise was still on. Around 9pm as two staff members driving a logo bearing pick up truck in their green uniform T-Shirts were exiting from behind the DO NOT ENTER gate, we caught them to inquire about the noise. One person answered my question that the generator was powering the entire campground and another said the generator should wind down soon. Neither was true. The campground has NO ELECTRICY that requires a generator, and the gas generator DID NOT STOP until around 7am the next morning. Ask me how I know: I did not end up sleeping the whole night because of the noise is so annoying and loud. Even when the generator was off, the sound of a fan, like vacuum machine noise remained on for more than an hour. One of the two guys had told us to talk to the camp host to switch us to another site. We went over to the camp host, only to see a OFF DUTY sign, plus the campground was full. We walked around towards the center common area of the campground, the noise could still be heard there, which we had contemplated of moving our tent over and decided it was useless. The campground has a generator policy of 10am to 6pm for campers, unfortunately the policy does not seem to apply for the national forest staff. The generator did go off at 10pm for a few minutes, only to come back on throughout the night. The Campground's location is quite nice, walkable to reach the beach, but the noise issue made our camping experience really awful. What the management should have done is to put out a public notice on the reservation website: for campsite 6, 7, 8, recommend RV or camper van instead of tent camping due to facility gas generator noise. We had wanted to stay for 2 or 3 nights, but were only able to get one night reservation. In hindsight, it was a blessing that we only got one night stay. read more

Ok so I stayed for two days with friend paid for camping, left day three early morning, got sleepy driving back to san jose, pulled over in area with no signage. took a nap, got a parking notice on my window, after ten minute nap. 90 dollars for "camping" decided to appeal it. Ranger never showed to court. case dismissed. What would they have me do keep driving? If this happened again . do I put on my hazards?? This is a review for group campsite #2. If you want to smell poop from the pit toilet vents that are down wind at group site #1, then this is a the spot for you! Seriously, don't bother. SO SMELLY! Luckily we only there 2 nights and spent most of the day doing activities. Also this site is on a hill so there is really no flat ground to pitch your tent. And finally, we were made to take our hammock down by the campsite host as our rope to hang was round and apparently it needs to be flat....pretty annoying. Only positive is your away from all the other campers so more private. Other positives---amazing location for big sur. Sand dollar beach was gorgeous. lots of trails and off roading options close by. read more

Camped here in a trailer for 3 nights with a friend and it was great! The Camp Host (Rhonda) is friendly and helpful and even gave us some free firewood. There were no reserved spots available online but they showed about 11 walk-up sites. We called first and were told we could get there at 8am to get a spot so we took a chance and drove over, arriving about 9:15. We found out the office gave us a bit of misinformation. The walk-up works like this... at 10am a sign-up sheet goes out, first come first serve. At noon the Host assigns sites and you can get in at 2pm. We did get a site and it was perfect. A quick five (ish) minute walk gets you to Sand Dollar Beach, which was beautiful. The campground itself has some very nice campsites that are shaded and very large. The bathrooms have toilets that flush (a big yay!) and there is water, however for RV's/trailers you will need to fill your tank elsewhere, they don't allow you to fill. The closest town (I use the term loosely) is Gorda, which is 5 miles south of the campground. It has a general store, restaurant and a gas station - however, gas was $6.69/gallon - fill up elsewhere! Also, a few miles (about 7) farther south is Ragged Point Inn & Restaurant. They have live music on the weekends till about 3 or 4pm. It was a great place to have a drink and sit outside listening to some great local talent. The views were stupendous as well. read more

Please don't go here, because we would hate to have everyone ruin our little gem of a campground! Plaskett is my favorite primitive campground in Big Sur, especially for families and dogs. The sites are mostly grassy, some are flat and some have pretty bad slopes, but nonetheless they are diverse. Some are flanked by poison oak, some are private, some are dirt, some are grass, some have beautiful cypress trees to shade you, some are in the middle of a grassy expanse, some are more communal and you're always going to experience large groups and families. The bathrooms are very simple (out-house like) but clean, there is running water, but be sparing with your use, we Californians are in a severe extended drought. The newest host Beverly is a wonderful and charismatic woman, many blessings to her! Sand Dollar beach across the street is a great surf spot, and the expansive and breathtaking sandy coastline is a wonderful place to soak up the occasional sunshine, let your pups run free, get your toes wet, and take in the natural awe that is Big Sur. it is an easy walk down a slope and a few flights of stairs, but it's flanked by poison oak, so beware! No lifeguard on duty, big waves, and cold water will likely deter you from anything more than a dip, but don't be afraid to soak those achy camper bones. Please remember to buy your firewood from Plaskett (or if camping elsewhere, buy from your campsite host), this helps fund the beautiful place you have been so lucky to experience. Do not take rocks or shells, do not burn stumps you find or take anything from your Mother Earth, which she does not "gift you." Stellar Jays often shed beautiful blue feathers for you, and wild turkey feathers can be found on many of the nearby hiking trails. I have found deer bones and other awesome earthly treasures, but be sure not to take in excess or disrupt the natural state. Be respectful and do not litter, pack your trash and DO NOT BURN IT! read more

My husband & I camped here in our 27ft 5th wheel for 4 days with our dog. We were in spot #39, it was really difficult backing our rig in, it's a tight turn but doable. Really nice views of the ocean and we encountered great weather for the most part. There are plenty of trees and shrubs in the campground but watch out for poison oak that is everywhere, near most shrubs & bushes! We spent a lot of our time relaxing on Sand Dollar beach-It's about a 5 minute walk. But... you can park for free at the parking lot for the beach if you are staying at the Plaskett or Kirk Creek campground and have a lot of stuff you want to take to the beach. Be mindful that the trail going to the beach is steep on parts of it and washed out a bit. It can be a little tricky, so watch your step. Also there is poison oak along the trail, keep your eyes pealed. Our camp host, Elizabeth, was great. She was very friendly & personable. My only real complaint was a group of rowdy young males camping near us for the first 3 nights....they were simply obnoxious, yelling & laughing until 1am. I think they were high the whole time because they were literally laughing (loud), non-stop for hours...I can't imagine anything be that funny unless...they had a stand up comedian at there site working his routine. Our camp host addressed this issue the last night they were there and they simmered down....we finally got a good night's sleep. read more

If Kirk Creek fills up too fast, as it always seems to do and if you don't want to travel farther north to Limekiln (which is closed in the winter anyhow) just head down a little farther south, past Sand Dollar beach to this Los Padres National Forest Campsite. Cheaper then the State Parks. Spacious spots, friendly people, ocean view across the street, surrounded by Monterey pines, cypress and redwoods. Water spigots, flush toilets, fire rings, bbqs and picnics tables, no showers or RV hookups but RVs and extra vehicles allowed, large group spots too. GPS Info. This is a great campground for those looking for an easy escape. The hostess was very nice and the grounds were exceptionally maintained, to include the bathroom and trash area. Each site has a picnic table, fire pit and grill cage. Lots of water spigots as well. The grounds are across from Sand Dollar Beach which was beautiful, mostly empty of people and my dog loved it. The sites are under tree cover and the taller grass (mostly over by Sand Dollar) is full of ticks. I've killed about 70 American Dog ticks that my dog and I brought back with us so far and I'm currently bug bombing my apartment. read more

I wish we could have spent a few more days at this beautiful campsite. Tall pine trees, woodsy, grass areas to play, the sites are large and away from others, all of this makes this place beautiful. Than add the views, the beach, the mild weather during June and you have yourself a perfect camp trip! My family and I loved Plaskett and sister campsite Kirk Creek. I rode my bicycle up from San Diego California heading to Pfeiffer State Park. The ride through the Mountains was hard on my legs so I glanced over and saw this beautiful camp ground! I was greeted by a most friendly young lady who said "I'm the camp host, I here to help you" I thought; I'm staying here!! The whole experience was great and I met two other cyclists and we shared stories on into the night. Some very compassionate neighbors even came over with some cold drinks. Don't hesitate to stay here. You won't regret it! I got plenty of rest and was in the ride again feeling good. read more

FYI: This campsite is not first come, first serve. You can get the sites that are not booked if you are on the list. On recreation.gov it made it look like it was all first come, first serve on the weekends. If you plan to try to get an open site I would suggest getting there the day before to get your name on the waitlist for the next night. Doing it the morning of you'll probably be too far down on the waitlist. There are two "walk-up" sites for bikers and hikers that are first come, first serve. If it says FF on the website that probably means it's booked. I'm assuming the open sites, the day of, are people that have canceled their trips. read more

We have been camping here for years and we love this place. Great place to camp with kids and the beach is amazing. We never had any trouble until this year. The new campground host "lady" is a nut on a power trip. I was jogging on the dirt road behind our campsite and she threatened me with a five thousand dollar fine because "the forest is closed". If that was the case why are cars driving up and down the road all day?? Then she came by our camp where our kids (ages 2-8) were drawing on the pavement with sidewalk chalk and told my wife it was "vandalism"!!!!?? Its some preschool and elementary kids with freaking chalk you fascist. I would understand this attitude if we were raising hell and partying but we are a group of non-drinking PTA members with little kids. This lady needs a job at San Quentin not Plaskett Creek. read more

Nice campground, well shaded. My only gripe was waking up to 3 tents on our site that wasn't part of our group. The hosts make their rounds making sure our cars are paid in full. They should do the same with trespassers. I'd go back but that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

RUDE ALERT: The host there, the one who lives in cabin 9, was one of the most unfriendly hosts Ive encountered in dozens of outings in California Parks. He first approached us in his truck 30 min after our arrival and demanded we pay up ASAP... he could have been a lot nicer about it to say the least. Then he asked us to deliver the $22 fee to his trailer instead of using the iron ranger which was strange and a little unprofessional. Then the next day he was a complete dick about seeing my dog off leash. When I leave a city to go camping the last thing I need are a bunch of lame rules enforced by a rude, power tripping park host. Camped in a tent for 5 nights. There are definitely some more desireable spots than others. Spots on the outer ring tended to be more secluded if that's what you want. The western spots toward HWY 1 are on pretty flat grass. The spots toward the group areas in the east are slopey. The grounds are nice, bathrooms are mostly clean, and the camp host (Rhonda) was very helpful and diligent with maintaining it that way. No showers though, so prepare to semi-rough it if you're staying awhile. There is a 10pm - 6am quiet time - please respect this. Some people did not. I realize everyone is on vacation of some sort and am totally cool with friends talking around the campfire - it's all part of the experience. Just keep in mind most people want to sleep and anything more than background chatter might keep them from that. Turn it down a notch after 10 and everyone's cool. Probably not the best time to start arguing about your football teams or tell that awesome joke you've been saving up for this trip. Things to do: Walking around the campsite is a good way to start the morning. You can see the ocean and Sand Dollar beach from the southwest corner of the camp. Sand Dollar beach is a sweet surf spot - that's what I came to do. It's a forgiving gentle beach break. I wouldn't classify it as a beginner break when the swell is on. The same could be said for any Big Sur surf spot; they're not very inviting. The water is cold, wind is an issue, and there are sharks (saw one the first day). Other than that, you're a half hour from Big Sur proper and there are trails and parks to check out all along HWY 1. Watch out for the poison oak there is plenty of it. Wildlife to watch out for are the Raccoons at night - hide your food. The bluejays during the day are aggro and will peck the sunflower seeds right out of the bag, this happened to me. I loved the experience here and would stay again. read more

We reserved a spot at the group camping site 1. This place is completely isolated from the other camp grounds, and it had a huge grill, a fire pit, and enough picnic tables to sit at least 20 people comfortably. The place is pretty easy to find as well, it's just the drive is down the winding 1, so don't be surprised if you get a little road sick from all those turns. If you're looking to get away from the urban world this is definitely an awesome retreat. I have AT&T, and I had no signal whatsoever. Our campsite was only 10 minute walk from these cliffs that looked over the ocean for an awesome view. It's a great little walk to wake up to in the morning. There are plenty of other trails and there's also a state beach located nearby I believe but I never made it out there. But honestly, where ever you end up going, the whole is place is just so darn beautiful. My group drove a whole 6 hours from southern california just to go to this spot and it was worth it. -Tips- Be sure to bring your own firewood. They say there is firewood provided there but they charge like 8 dollars a bunch. But if money isn't an issue, the convenience is unbeatable. We went around early spring (Mid-March). It was warm during the day but freezing cold at night! So bring lots of warm clothing! I ended up sleeping wrapped in my sleeping bag while wearing my jeans, thermals, a sweater, and my north face jacket over that. I was pretty darn comfy. If you came from the South there is also a great place you can stop by to sea an elephant seal colony. I was able to snap some great photos of them. read more

We stayed at Plaskett Creek campground from 7/11/19 through 7/14/19. The campsite is very nice and clean. It has a very woodsy feel for being right across from the ocean. We had three sites, 33-34-35. We picked site 35 as the main campsite for congregating. Site 33 was slightly uphill from the parking spur, but had a very level camping area. Site 34 was relatively small and could fit one maybe two tents. The restroom was closest to this site. Site 35 was mostly on a slope but was the largest of the three. The main roads throughout the campground are narrow as well as the parking spurs. We had a travel trailer (22') as well as our friends (32') and found it very difficult to try to back in and set up. There are also large boulders that are set up along the campsites that also make it difficult to maneuver larger vehicles as well. Some of the sites towards the middle of the campground were more flat and might have been a little easier to back in with a travel trailer. The restrooms were relatively clean, but did not have running water to wash your hands. This seemed to be a common theme from most of the reviews I read beforehand. If you a picky about your toilet paper, bring your own as the toilet paper provided is very thin. Also bring toilet seat covers as none are provided. There are water spigots throughout the site if you need access to water. The camp hosts were very nice and were pretty easy going. Firewood is $15 a bundle and you only get about six logs per bundle and it did seem to burn pretty quickly. The beach access is just a short walk across Highway 1. There is not much of a beach per se, but rather a small area of sand and mostly rocks. Overall it was a very nice campground and I would definitely go back. read more

Loved it here! When we were informed that our group couldn't get a site at the famed Kirk Creek, I was a bit disappointed. However, after driving past KC campground at 9am in the morning and seeing the disheveled chaos that it was, I was so glad to be in a more mellow, low-key area with LOTS more tree coverage and soft grass to setup a tent on. The other plus is that they allow more than 2 cars in an overflow parking lot for $5 a day, no problem at all for us! Definitely a low-key, family oriented, no loud obnoxious music type of getaway places, you can hear the ocean at night and catch glimpses of the cliffs and beach through the cover of ancient cypress and pine trees. The only downside is that the sites aren't normally as secluded as I am accustomed to, but just prepare to be close to your neighbors and walk through everyone's sites if you aren't on the outskirts...waking up in the dead of night to the sound of the ocean cannot be beat, and we were close driving distance to several wonderful hikes, including the trail head at Kirk Creek. Great for people who want a relaxing escape, please don't come here to beer bong it up with your bros (except maybe at the group sites mentioned by others) Tips: 2 grills (one charcoal pit, one over fire pit), bring wood, water spigot on site (bring drinking water if wanted), most sites shaded but some in full sun, extra parking for a fee, beach access, picnic tables at each site, multiple bathrooms, no showers. read more

$17 for the night? Yes please! We drove as far as we could from LA one night, ended up at Plaskett about 1am, crashed, woke up, walked down to the little beach, which was awesome. Great way to start the PCH roadtrip. The campground... ranger? Security? I don't know. He was great. He told us all the good spots to hit driving up PCH. Ask him! Bring cash.
