So my bf and I came to Plate on another one of my crazy yelp searches for good healthy eats. We weren't sure what to expect but with a yelp deal and a free dessert with a yelp check in we said - WHY NOT?! Boy were we in for a delicious treat! The owner Toto greeted us with a smile, a rundown of the menu & a sample of their soup of the day. Im not a huge fan of Lentil soup but it was so warm and tasty i was almost tempted to add it to our order. We ordered the turkey quesadillas and the pan con lechon. Both were light, fresh and extremely flavorful. The prices were more than reasonable and the portion sizes appropriate. After our meal we were surprised with an ooey gooey choco chip & walnut bread pudding for being a yelper!! (their signature guava & cheese one was baking). I make my way out of the gables and down the street to Plate at least two or three times a week. Parking can be a bit of a pain but the food and friendly staff are worth it. They offer daily specials and a variety of tasty sandwiches and smoothies. It's great to have a healthier and affordable alternative for lunch. Their turkey picadillo, stuffed chicken breast, and chimichurri chicken are just some of my favorites. The staff is always welcoming and brings out samples of smoothies and soups while you wait. It's a nice touch to find a small business that hasn't forgotten the importance of customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere. read more

Sorry to say, I didn't find it to be anything special. The owner was there and seemed to be a nice guy. I asked him what he thinks I should order as a first time customer. He recommended the lechon. It was on the dry side. If that's the best foot forward then I'm not looking forward to going back. I even asked him if he had any sauce for the sandwich and he said it wouldn't need it because it was very juicy. Unfortunately, I disagree. Also had a chicken wrap that tasted like a bad chicken kitchen. The guava bread pudding was ok. If you're expecting something as delicious as the one you get at Nordstrom café, for instance, you can forget about it. This place is definitely a quick stop kind of spot. The sandwiches are okay, the bread is what makes it tasty. The guy that took our order must have just been starting because he couldn't answer any of our questions. I needed a place to kill time so I stopped in to get a sandwich. I ordered a chicken club and a coffee. The coffee was ok but the sandwich was not so good. The bread was fine but the chicken was dried out as if they'd cooked it a day before, didn't sell it, and reheated it the next day. It was dried out and tasted funny. read more

I went for breakfast and got a tomato and cheese omelet. The price was fair and it tasted pretty good. My only gripe was that it looked and tasted like something I could make at home. Not their fault obviously but if you're looking for something more for breakfast, then this place won't do. They mostly just have a choice of omelet and some fixings, but I don't remember seeing any pancakes or waffles, etc., on the menu. I will come and try their lunch menu though. read more

Plate is definitely my favorite lunch spot. I have been eating here since it first opened, and I thought it was about time I contribute a review. Every day there is a new special, so it's a place you can go to everyday and not get tired of the food. More importantly, it feels like you are eating a home cooked meal. (Let's face it, that's not a feeling you get from many establishments.) Food is fresh, delicious and Plate makes an effort to prepare it healthier. I strongly recommend this place. Lets just say today was my first time at Plate and it was awesome! I had The Oriental Express and my dad had a carrot and sweet potato cream soup which was absolutely delicious. The owner noticed it was our first time there so he gave us a complimentary guava and cheese bread pudding that was TO DIE FOR! Im not a fan of bread pudding but I am now of the one in Plate. Great place for a quick bite for those of us on the go and a lunch that is not so filling you feel like you're going to explode. Also, quite inexpensive which is a plus if you want to eat healthy (which is normally expensive). My favorite part of my lunch there was definitely the hospitality. My husband and I went for breakfast with a Groupon. The food was nice and simple and delicious, and portions were a very reasonable size and inexpensive. Cafecito was perfect: piping hot and just the right amount of sweetness and milkiness. We thought the clean, urban-cafe atmosphere was great - this is the sort of place you just wish you were on the street level of your apartment building. Perhaps even best of all was how genuinely friendly and pleasant the guys working there were. We're definitely looking forward to coming back for lunch. read more

I had placed a lunch order online for a coworker and I and when we went to pick it up we found that the restaurant had not received it. I showed him the confirmation email I received and they gave their sincere apologies and rushed to make our order. We received our food very quickly and when I tried to pay the manager (possibly the owner) would not let me pay after multiple attempts. He insisted that I did not need to pay since they made me wait and didn't receive the order. He introduced himself to me and shook my hand and told me to have a great day. That was probably the best customer service I have experienced since I moved to Miami. When I got back to the office to eat the food I was very impressed. I had the daily special (salmon with rice and salad) and a green dream juice. The food was amazing and the juice was great as well. After today's experience I will definitely be back as a regular customer and would recommend this place to anyone. read more

This is the worst place in Miami! I have never been so insulted by ownership of a local business in my whole life. I have given this place business for 5 months on a weekly basis, one day I had an emergency and had to cancel my order, instead of understanding and thanking me for my business, the owner harassed me at work, called me and berated me on the phone, over not picking up a $5.00 sandwich. I will never order from them again and I will let everyone I meet know that this is the worst place ever. When I did order from them they would come late and I never complained. OK - you get what you pay for. Unpretentious, tight quarters, busy lunch counter, but courteous service. I had the turkey club and a soda for lunch, all under $8. Can't beat that. The sandwich looked like a classic club I could've made at home. But all was fresh. Cafe Cubano was good too.
