Everything about this was horrible: the booking person who delighted in telling me how busy she was and how many emails she had to go through (and thus why she hadn't responded to mine); the cut and paste booking confirmation email which had someone else's name on; the booking details when we arrived, which didn't get my name even close, had us working for a completely different company, and had completely the wrong backstory - resulting in us being accused of having changed and reduced our numbers several times (and yes, it was definitely our booking); the completely uninspired, dull, insipid Christmas menu; the fact that as a vegetarian, I had one option of pasta - which is odd for a French restaurant - which I didn't want, so I asked for the stuffing, vegetables and potatoes from the turkey dish - and mentioned that if they could something to go with it them great. What I got was exactly the same portion of potatoes and veg as everyone else, with the addition of wilted spinach - which looked completely revolting since it was overlooked and drowning in grease, and was much too salty to eat; the frankly peculiar and perfectly horrible nougat glacé; the weird, pointless, uninspired, cheap, beetroot and goats cheese starter; my colleague's steak, which was supposed to be well-done, and which had to be sent back because it was pink - and was still pink the second time around; altogether, food which I haven't had in even the worst pub - how the Christmas menu was even released is beyond me, and how the kitchen had the gall to send out what they did, and to charge what they do, is beyond me; the snippy, superior-acting staff; the bare-bones, hasty service, with no finesse or warmth or welcome - in fact, some of the time, I was handed my dishes across someone else, because the waiter couldn't be bothered to come round (and my setting was perfectly accessible); need I go on. I'm angry about the money I wasted at this excuse for a restaurant (never mind a supposedly select one), and would rather have gone to McDonalds. Oh, and there wasn't a single indication it's Christmas in the whole place. Altogether, it was a miserable experience, which I wouldn't repeat even if you paid me. read more
