When I told her I had a king bed, she quickly sought a measuring tape to make sure that the bed would fit in each of the apartments. Few people are so committed to their customers. Worked with Platinum Properties to find a place in NYC, they showed us an apartment and we decided to move into that apartment, signed the documents, hired a moving company to move in and once we were moving items into the apartment building we noticed that they did a bait and switch and the apartment was very different, the original apartment had a large closet, a full size refrigerator and an oven/stove, the new apartment of which they had said was exactly like the one they showed us had a much smaller closet, no storage space like original, a mini fridge and only two hot plates on countertop. When we went back to them to complain they said the original had already been moved into and there was nothing they could do. After several extremely rude calls with their COO and legal person, we contacted an attorney to get our broker fee from them returned. The entire exchange was unprofessional and rude on their part. read more

Absolutely never again. I rented an apartment in June 2020 at 95 Wall (also horrible, don't do it) from a broker at Platinum despite my intuition telling me it would not be a good fit. Fast forward nine months and the apartment and building were so awful I hired a broker to find a replacement tenant so I could legally break my lease. Mistakenly, I hired the same broker and brokerage who ultimately rented me the apartment back in June, as I found the broker eager to please and knowledgeable of the neighborhood. Unprofessional, lack of clear communication, did not want to update me with "every little thing" as the process went on "otherwise it would be an emotional roller coaster." Such bs. You need to tell the client what's going on especially when they are paying you to make some phone calls and do a few walkthroughs. I hired you, so if I need updates every other day, particularly in a very tight time frame with a lot of stress, you provide them, period. Management is incredibly condescending and gives you the "I'm sorry YOU feel that way" thing. Management was combative at every turn, even when I provided photos of emails and text exchanges showing how unsatisfied I was--even after moving out. What ever happened to the client comes first? I received an invoice for the broker's fee before I had even received a copy of the lease transfer! I had to chase the broker down for that as well. Never again. There are other brokerages in New York that actually are concerned with the quality of service being provided.. and that speaks volumes considering it's Manhattan and most are sub-par. read more

I was above a tiny wine bar on Sullivan Street and tormented for a year due to the rude bar owner having his staff blast music for a place that can barely seats 12 people. Avoid anything on Sullivan Street. Unless you're into insects, rats, and filth. read more

She offered to show us a few other listings in FiDi that fit our criteria. All the units she showed us were great and it seemed like she really took into consideration not only what we were looking for but also our price range. My roommate and I wanted to view apartments in the FiDi area for a 1 bedroom flex to 2. We called a listing that led us to Platinum Properties. We double checked with the broker we spoke with that there would be no fee on the apartment we ultimately decided on, and the man ensured us there wouldn't be. Great! Fast forward to actually meeting at their 30 Wall St office. We sit down with the broker in the Platinum Properties office and he puts on the normal broker apartment hunt spiel. He then tries to get us to sign forms that would lock us in to paying Platinum Properties 15% of the rent even if we ended up going through another brokerage agency. Be wary of signing forms before viewing listings! Do not sign anything until you are ready to sign a lease! There are definitely other agencies that cover FiDi that will not charge you this fee. read more

I rarely feel the urge to leave bad reviews online (please look at my past review history for proof) but this was particularly an infuriating experience. I found a unit in Crown Heights that I felt was a good fit. It was listed by an agent named Jae Islam so I contacted her. At first, she was responsive. Especially when setting up the viewing. My roommate and I came to see the unit and we started the application process pretty much right away. We felt good about who we were working with for she appeared (at first) to be prompt and professional. This all changed shortly. Once we received the email with our application all communication pretty much stopped... funny because at the end of the email she clearly states to contact her if there are any questions.. which I did. I asked one question. I got nothing. I submitted the application anyway. A day later I sent another email with that one question and again I got nothing. The following day I sent her a text fearing maybe we got scammed and yet again I got nothing. Now this is all happening towards the end of the month when we are in a rush to secure a unit so we aren't left homeless but Jae obviously could not care less. She doesn't have to treat us anything special but at least answer your emails especially if it's something that can be answered within a minute and especially if it's from a client who's relying on you to communicate at least a little. The final text I sent her after 5 days of silence since submitting our applications was to offer the landlord a longer lease. I again got nothing. The only time she contacted me was to tell us the rent would be higher than the listed price and to tell us the landlord went with another application. All fine if this wasn't a clear indication of favoritism and icing another application out. There really is no excuse for completely ignoring a client--especially when we were courteous and timely on our end. This was a weird one for sure. read more

I found a listing online and was contacted by Emre. I told him what I was looking for and he was able to work with me in regards to location , budget, and and even my flight times! He showed me some apartments starting around 11:30 AM and by 2:30 PM I was signing a lease. What a pleasant experience and I couldn't thank him enough. People tell me all the time that New Yorkers are so rude. My experiences have varied but some just outweigh the rest... Please take time to read, I recently met a broker (Julien Bettelheim) who helped me find my first nyc apartment (Side happy dance). I cannot move in until the 31st, but since it's in the city It's also hard to take my things. I ordered a bed to not be delivered until the 31st. Guess what. It was delivered today. I reached out to my broker informing him and requesting maybe he contact the super or that I'd come and move it but I don't have the keys yet. He said he would go after work, I insisted he didn't as it was inconvenient for him from Wall Street. I woke up to a text at midnight saying he put it Inside. So what's the big deal??? He carried a heavy box up 5 flights of stairs after working a full day and commuted from Wall Street to midtown. I invested a significant amount of money in this apartment, I'm starting a new position, and I have a new puppy. My broker (Julien Bettelheim) knew this because he took the time to talk to me during our lease signing. He was helpful, clear, honest, fair and direct. He worked with me to get a price I could work with. This broker went out of his way to ensure a bed made it inside safely, because it was important to me. He knew losing a bed would've been a financial hit. He cared. He went above and beyond. It literally brought me to tears this morning because seeing compassion is moving. If your ever looking For a broker Julien Bettelheim at Platinum Properties. And Platinum Properties you need to give this man a raise!! No a promotion!!! read more

These 5 stars are for the awesome Suzanne Colton!! Finding an apartment in the city is one of the most stressful things in the world, especially during the summer months. Suzanne made it so much easier. She was flexible with scheduling and helped us find the perfect apartment. Then, when things on our end fell through she wasn't even mad and instead helped us look for an apartment with completely different set of criteria. I spent quite a bit of time with her and she was friendly, personable and never pushy. She also clearly had a good reputation with many of the building property managers. I had an end-to-end wonderful experience with Suzanne Remy Colton as my buyer's agent. She was knowledgeable, honest, hard-working, quick to respond, and a generally awesome person! During the first phase of searching, Suzanne put in the leg work to find a number of quality options in the Upper Manhattan area of Hudson Heights. She helped me ask the right questions, look at each place with a discerning eye, and was a great facilitator. Once I found the place I wanted, Suzanne negotiated flawlessly and got me the price I was looking for! She was very familiar with the application process (a huge plus since I was buying into a coop) and made it very efficient and speedy. She communicated well not only with me, but with the multiple other parties that are involved when buying into a coop building. This review is for Jeffrey Carlson. He made it very easy to find a nice vacation rental on a weekend when all hotels were completely sold out. The location and accommodations were first-rate, and he even offered advice on getting around town. The stay was excellent. The price wasn't great, but it was peak season, I was desperate, and had to place my trust in a stranger. There was also a refundable $500 deposit(sounds reasonable, right?) When it came time to depart, he told me he would leave my deposit refund with the doorman by the end of the day as he was "busy". This never happened. He said he later found some damage but would mail the remainder to me. This never happened. He made me go and ask all my neighbors if they had received it. As time wore on, it became harder and harder for me get in touch with him because he was always "on vacation", "at a seminar", or similar excuses, but he promised to give me my deposit back. It's been nearly three months since my vacation, and I have no confidence that he will return my deposit. If he does, I will certainly amend this review. I'd like to return to New York and take him to court over this, but it wouldn't be worth it to fly all the way out there and take time off of work. At this point, all I can hope is that my experience can serve as a warning to others: Don't trust Jeffrey Carlson. read more

This past summer, my husband and I were looking for a 1BR apartment in the city. We quickly found out how fast the rental market is in NYC and how challenging it was to secure an apartment as out-of-towners. Our experience with Platinum started out fine. I found a listing for an apartment, went to the OH, and met Ryan Strennen, a Platinum Properties agent. We chatted, and he showed me another 1BR around the corner from the OH that wasn't listed on the MLS yet (score!). I liked it and we moved forward with paperwork and security deposits. This is when everything started going down hill. So here are 7 reasons you shouldn't engage in any deal with Platinum Properties: 1. Their record keeping and security of sensitive documents are poor. Ryan LOST our bank check for first month's rent. As most know, this type of check is a debit of funds from an account. The money is gone. I spent hours on the phone and several visits to my bank to track down the check. Sadly I was required to wait 90 days to even file a request return of funds (still working on this btw). 2. They have an aversion to responsibility: Platinum Properties said they would "issue a check for 1st month rent for us" out of their broker commission because of the lost check . BUT we'd have to sign a doc to pay them back after 90 days. What? We had no idea where the funds were or any guarantee that we'd get the money back. Only after some correspondence on this, Platinum decided to take responsibility for this issue. 3. The amounts for rent and security deposit amount kept changing. Verbally it was one amount, and then next time Ryan would email another that would be $20/$30 more a month. We noticed the discrepancy but felt such a small amount, it wasn't worth a squabble. We just wanted to have a place to live and we were crunched for time. 4. Platinum does not review financials properly with applications. My husband and I were thoughtful in providing all financial records in a timely manner including tax returns filing jointly. Platinum reached out saying that they had only received my husband's tax returns. We explained we filed taxes jointly. 5. At times, correspondence that we had with Ryan was less than professional. He's young, fine. But communication is critical for a client facing job. Thankfully, another agent, Evan Walker, took over and provided a more professional experience. The 1 star here is for him. 6. Platinum Properties was quick to state and always remind us that they represent the property owner (even though their brokers commission are paid by renters - but this is a separate issue). But never took responsibility for outdated documentation or inaccurate instructions for rent payments. 7. We're online shoppers like a lot of other people and get a fair amount of deliveries. The apartment building does not have a doorman. I asked Ryan about packages, and he told us delivery services had access to the building. Why I believed him, idk - I was an idiot. Enough said. Ultimately, I had a lot of hope in a smooth experience with Platinum Properties. They were amenable to working with us and even helped to take measurements of the apartment. By the time we saw this apartment from Platinum, I had already seen 15+ places so I was tired. Had I even gotten a sense for what I was in for, I would have continued my search elsewhere. Finally, I can't relate to most of these 5 star reviews here on Yelp but I would caution anyone who is apartment hunting or in need of a broker to rely on Platinum Properties. Do more research and get a broker to represent you. read more

I was met with a helpful employee who listened to what I had to say and we were able to come to an amicable conclusion. I suppose you could say I fought the good fight and won. I am updating this posting based on an agreement that was made between Platinum Properties and myself. I have chosen to keep the same rating, as I think it is important to understand other peoples' experiences with said company, but wish others nothing but the best. read more

This review is for Ben Scheck. I recently started my search in NYC and wanted a 2 bedroom for my roommate and I. We contacted Ben off an ad on renthop.com and he showed us the apartment we inquired about and others that were similar. From what a lot of my other friends have told me, brokers like to use fake pictures or post ads that don't reflect accurate pricing, but Ben was truthful and upfront from the beginning about the ad we saw and the other places he wanted to show us. At no point did we feel like we were being upsold. Ben never put any pressure on us, but rather gave us all of the information and facts about the current market and each apartment we visitied. He let us ultimately make the decision to move to Tribeca instead of pushing us into an apartment we didn't want. We will definitely use Ben again, and be referring our friends and family when we need anything real estate related in town. He's a terrific broker and has the resources around him to get things done quickly and efficiently...he was well worth the fee we paid for our great apartment! read more

This is a review for Teresa Stephenson. My friends and I recently worked with Teresa to find our first Manhattan apartment and we're thrilled to have found the perfect place! After meeting with other unimpressive brokers from different agencies, we were feeling a bit discouraged. That all changed when we met Teresa. We ended up signing a lease for the first apartment she showed us. It completely met all of our requirements that we had discussed with her and actually exceeded our expectations. She was extremely professional from beginning to end and was a pleasure to work with! After showing us the apartment she took us to see a couple of other options that also met our requirements. Then after we decided to move forward with the first listing, she stayed with us to ensure that we got it. It was a popular apartment and there were other groups interested in bringing a check that same day, but with her help we were able to beat the other groups to it. She then made sure that all of our paperwork was correct and walked through the entire application process with us while also acting as a liaison between the landlord and listing agent for us. Let's be honest - no one likes NYC real estate brokers. They might be super nice people, but in the big scheme of things, they act less like experts and more like "trolls under a bridge". So it's hard to get enthusiastic for anyone in the industry as a renter in NYC. Chandra Cadogan (one of Platinum's agents) is the exception to the rule. Hardworking, diligent, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, she really helped me find a good place to live. I'd have no hesitation recommending her again - and though I'd rather there were no agents/brokers involved, Chandra is a top-notch asset to have representing you given the reality of the market. read more

My husband and I can't say enough about what a great experience we had with Lena Lerner. Since we're both very experienced in renting apartments around the world (having lived in D.C., Paris, and nearly everywhere between), we thought we could handle finding a new apartment in NYC ourselves. Having worked with Lena, though, I will never hunt for an apartment on my own again. I reached out to Lena when we found a listing under her name that interested us. She immediately demonstrated her immense value, putting together a list of apartments (that we never would have found on our own due to the fast-moving nature of the NYC apartment market) and making appointments for us to look at them with her. When we told her we were looking at no-fee apartments, she showed us apartments that would pay her broker's fee (which I didn't even know was an option). While we browsed the apartments, she took notes on what we liked and didn't like, found answers to every question, and offered a great deal of insight about buildings, neighborhoods, and renting in NYC. Even though she's very busy with a variety of clients, she was very prompt in responding to texts and emails (within the hour, if not sooner). She listened very carefully to what we wanted and never tried to push us to settle for something that was good enough; in fact, she told us to not give up on our dream apartment and give her just a little more time to find the right one for us. After spending two days walking around the city with Lena (and countless emails to her with stupid questions), we have an amazing apartment that not only has everything we need but everything we wanted, too, and at an incredible deal. Without Lena, we wouldn't have even found it, much less navigated the move from D.C. to NYC with such ease. In short: Everything that is good about our move to NYC is due to Lena. This is a review for John Kelly. I and my boyfriend, we were so lucky to meet John by chance during our apartment hunting. John is very attentive, keeping asking us what we needed and what we were looking for in an apartment. We met John late Friday afternoon, and he already found a list of apartments for us to view on Saturday. He patiently walked with us from apartment to apartment, showing us stuffs that even the building agent neglected to tell. Despite his full and tight schedule, he was trying his best to be very flexible with us and always taking his time with us. This review is for Ben Scheck. I had a relatively complicated apartment search and very limited time to take care of it. Ben really came through. He is super-responsive and will return calls and emails ASAP. Ben knows the downtown area well and will give you the full story on what to expect from different buildings, etc. He did a lot of running around to make sure everything was done, and I remain grateful for all his help. I cannot overemphasize how hectic things got and how he never lost his cool. A general word of advice for apartment-hunting in NYC, with or without a broker: this is the Manhattan real estate market, and you can't check your brain at the door no matter who you decide to work with. For me, that means getting everything in writing and never accepting that something would be "okay" even though it conflicts with a written contract (e.g., how many pets a building allows per apartment, etc.). Others might feel differently about this. All this being said, I would work with Ben again in a heartbeat. He's nice, he's smart, and he will make things happen including when things get really stressful. So far, I am very pleased with where we live, especially considering everything that can go wrong in the NYC housing market. read more

This review for Jason Phillips I was first impressed by his diligence, he was one of the few people working during the labor weekend. I was on a tight deadline to find an apt, really apreciated the fact he was there while no one else was. We talked over the phone first to go over my criteria, then Jason followed up with emails about which blocks i should try before the appointment, so everything was well prepared. I saw couple apartments i really like - Jason has listened to my requirement careful ahd he really did a good job compiling the list. and when we were looking at the apartments, Jason was not pushy at alll (not like some other brokers), he noted down carefully what i liked and not liked. when i was not sure about the candidates, he was very patient and we went back and forth to check out the same apartment couple times to make sure that that's the one. overall it had been a very pleasant experience working with Jason, he is sincere, candid and works really hard to help finding the new home. read more

This review is for Samantha Brenneman. Moving from CA to NY was a pleasant experience with Samantha. I stumbled upon Platinum in March and although I wasn't able to actually visit Manhattan until June, she emailed me monthly just to make sure we were on the same page and to let me know she was available to answer any question I might have (which she followed through). Maybe luck had a part in this, but she managed to get my broke college grad butt in a luxury apartment (doorman, dogs, gym, etc) so my review may be a little bias about our interchange. My only complaint, which I don't think is entirely a fault of Samantha, was how fast everything had to go. As soon as I paid Super Shuttle, I received a call from Samantha saying an apartment (the one I ended up getting) JUST hit the market and we had to go and see it NOW! We even power-walked in heels to see it. I was a little hesitant to put money on the first apartment that I looked and wanted to look some more. I don't think Samantha was trying to be intrusive; she asked me what I liked and didn't like about the apartment and told me about my realistic options (i.e. spending $400 more downtown to get only another 100ft or moving uptown where the prices are lower but having to pay more in terms of her brokerage fee and commuting--while saying "just tell me what you want, we'll go from there" ). I did think it was somewhat ironic that she was portraying herself as empathetic and at ease but we were still running in heels to look at the available apts in the area. I guess her sense of emergency was warranted b/c we returned to the first apartment no more than 20 mins after our initial viewing but we overheard the apartment manager having to reject someone interested in taking the apartment. Perhaps most importantly, Samantha had great follow-up. She contacted me throughout my application status, essentially offering to be the go-between between myself and the apartment management. I want to look at Manhattan apartments again now that I am already in the area and I definitely wouldn't mind working with Samantha, again. I recommend Samantha to anyone who is moving to area from out-of-state (she actually moved from Napa, herself, which may be why she is so good) or to college grads b/c she definitely knows how to make your money stretch where it matters so you spend your first year in the city in a comfortable apartment. read more

Review for Kaptan Unugur. I was looking for a 1BR apartment on the Upper East Side or Midtown and had to find something in a matter of days. Kaptan was not only prompt in responding to my initial inquiry but did a great job showing me a broad selection of apartments based on my requirements. I found my apartment the very first day and signed the lease on the spot. Kaptan even walked with me over to the bank and made sure that I got my security deposit and first month's rent in the same day. I wish Platinum Properties were a little more flexible on their fee payment policies - given that I'm just starting a new job, paying the broker fee on top of two month's rent took a massive chunk out of my wallet, but other than that, I was very pleased with the quality of their service, their willingness to work with my timeline, and the professionalism that Kaptan displayed. read more

RENTERS BEWARE. If you do a search at some of these online apartment rental websites, you will come across listings by Platinum Properties. Many of the listings I have found were based upon listings the either did not exist, or were simply false rental prices. A typical form of bait and switch. I learned the hard way, and contacted them regarding a rental. I should have been suspect that it was too good to be true. Of course, it was. I was fortunate and did not end up using their services, but I was prohibited from signing a contract with the two buildings their agent had shown me. All in all for me, it was an appalling experience. I ended up learning my lesson. But in my personal dealing with Platinum Properties, I feel that they were truly one of the most unethical businesses I have ever dealt with. read more

The agent, and the director of sales both misrepresented in writing what the landlord would agreed to. I took time out of my day to go to the lease signing where I was presented with a lease that included things that both the agent and director knew I would not agree to. For the life of me I don't understand why business is done this way. It is not professional and it just ends up wasting everyone's time. read more

I was under the gun to find an apartment with in a week in NYC. Ben Scheck was a fantastic resource. He communicated with me very well and quickly. He listened to what I was looking for and didn't pressure me to look in other neighborhoods or at prices out of my range. I would work with him again if I look for another apartment. read more

She understood "the impossible" I was looking for - affordable, cute, and in a cool neighborhood. She investigated every single link I sent to her. She sent me ideas outside the box. She saw the silver linings and was honest when I was being too picky, but was also protective and critical of properties when necessary. She was patient and super fun to spend a Saturday with.
