Min has been doing my hair (highlights, color, cut, etc.) for over a year now, and she always does an excellent job. She's fast and consistent, and I'm always happy with the results. I also appreciate that Min does not try to make small talk, and I'm able to just relax or work on my laptop while I'm in the chair. I give Min's work 5 stars, which is always reflected in the 30-40% tip I give her. But unfortunately, I had to take away three stars for my most recent experience with the salon. I have been calling the past two weeks and leaving messages requesting an appointment with Min. In the past, they've always responded quickly and I've been able to book an appointment within one or two days. But this time, no one has called me back and they never answer the phone. So I had my daughter call from her phone, and they answered immediately. She even talked to Min herself who said she had appointments available next week. So...I call. No answer. I immediately call back and - surprise - someone picks up. The person who answered proceeds to tell me that Min has no appointments available next week...and in fact, she is booked up through the end of the year. Oh really? They didn't even offer to book me with one of the other stylists. Not sure WTH is going on, but I'm pretty sure they've blackballed me. But why? Did I miss an appointment that I forgot about? Did I cancel and reschedule too often? Whatever the reason, I'd prefer they were professional and honest with me instead of ghosting me. I'm an adult - I can handle the truth. I'd also like to be given the opportunity to respond to whatever the reason might be. I could be wrong about all this, but I don't think I am. Terrible Customer Treatment! I'd been going faithfully to this full service salon since I started living here in 2019 & for some reason the stylist & owner Michelle just stopped returning my calls & text messages! For some time I thought the phone system wasn't working so I physically walked in (she saw me) & was told I'd get a return call! Never did! This was over 4 months ago!!! I can't believe after all this time & all the things we've talked about that my Stylist just DUMPED a well tipping & REGULAR client!! I drove 3.5 hours, actually 7 both ways, to get to this salon bc I read the reviews here on yelp about Claire, and there are no good Korean salons in Austin. I came in with healthy hair, which had taken me YEARS to grow out. I showed her the picture on the left, as you can see on the right, the results were NOT what I asked for and spent $300 for! It's way more curly, not the natural C curl I asked for and showed her in the picture! And it was poofy and looked terrible and messy after I showered, not straight with a slight gentle curl at the end, The salon offered to let me come in, but come to find out they were going to charge me AGAIN after I wasted my time 12 hours basically, and spent hundreds again redoing it in Austin. Plus, they only offered a treatment, not even a redo straight perm. Treatments only last 2-3 weeks! Their service is lacking. I had to cancel once bc I am on call with my job, but I had made that appt less than 24 hrs in advance anyway, and I'm the one who already wasted $300 + over 12 hrs. I want a free redo of my straight perm, which is deserved or my $300 returned to me. That would be fair. Go to Dass Salon. Rich and Soo are kind, not greedy, and are way more knowledgeable. They charge half the cost and are more experienced. Rich has been doing hair for over 30 years and he knows hair! He rescued my hair somewhat with a free treatment and a straight perm, but it still looks bad bc of the Austin stylist and Claire's initial mess up on my hair. :( he gave me a free treatment whereas Claire pretended she's doing me a service by giving me only a free $200 treatment instead of offering to redo the straight perm the way I asked for in the first place with no charge. That would have been the proper service. I can't believe she was only going to give me a "free" treatment other salons do for free instead of offering to fix her mistake on my hair! I spent $300! The Line hair with Ashley is great too. I've been to numerous salons in Dallas now. This has been the worst experience. I know it's "just" hair, but it takes months/years to grow out and it frames your face! Please at least redo my straight perm for free as you should in all fairness or refund my $300. Four years later after my first review, I still can't say enough good things about Platinum Hair Salon. Claire has always been honest and straight-forward which I appreciate. I've been wanting to go blonde for a while but she let me know it was a process and to prepare for some damage to my hair. After my second appointment in a year, my hair is finally an amazing shade of blonde and I've gotten so many compliments on my hair! Even better is that this salon uses Olaplex and Claire was very careful to make sure there was as little damage to my hair as possible. I updated my review for Fox Hair when I found out Claire was no longer there...I tried to book an appointment with her and they kept on telling me she was in Korea then they told me she MOVED to Korea. I was kind of skeptical b/c from what she told me from previous appointments, it seemed really odd for her to move back. Then the coolest thing happened.. Claire added me on Yelp and I found out she works here now! As I stated before, my hair is my thang and normally, I'm a laid back person even when it comes to any customer service related experiences. HOWEVER, I am an absolute control freak and an anxious hot mess when it comes to my mane. While getting my hair done right can be one of my favorite things in the world, I have major trust issues when it comes to getting my hair done, shit, I might need therapy. I have always been nervous about getting my hair done, even at expensive places and/or skilled stylists (even at places I've gone for years) prior to her. You know that she is the bomb dot com if I actually let her do whatever sometimes and actually feel at ease during the appointment. I have naturally wavy hair and a lot of it..plus, my face has been getting more heart shaped over the years (used to be more oval when I was younger *sad face*) AND I have chubby cheeks so I can't pull off too many styles..despite all this, she knows how to work my hair. I followed Claire from Fox Hair in Carrollton to here. Even though this location is out of the way for me, she is absolutely worth the drive! All of the members of the staff here are super friendly and the salon is nice and clean. I have already converted a few of my friends to going to Claire - not only is she wonderful with Asian hair, one of my friends has super long curly hair and Claire is the only one who has made it manageable for her. My 5-star review is relative to my personal expectation and experience so please take it with a grain of salt. With that said, let me give you a little background over my 25 years of experience of getting haircuts from someone that's not a relative with a bowl and a pair of kitchen shears. I have only had 2 barbers my entire life, one for 20 years until I got married and the other for 5 years after we moved. What can I say, I'm just your average Joe but with ungodly good looks. To me, my hair is just the frame that complements the masterpiece that god has blessed me with. After my 2nd barber left me bleeding for the 3rd time in 5 years, I thought it was time to move on. After an extensive research on Yelp, seems like all the hair salon reviews leads me to back to Platinum Salon. I immediately called and made an appointment for 5:30pm that day (they were surprisingly busy for a Wednesday). After Kyle sat me down, he asked the dreaded question - what do you like? With my limited experience on hair styles in the past 25 years, I was thinking "anything that doesn't make me bleed?" so I told him that I have very low expectations and it's dealer's choice. I have to admit that I was quite blown away with Kyle immediately after he got started. I felt like I'm a prized Bonsai in his precious garden. Seriously, you can tell the passion for perfection through the intensity in his eyes. I lost count of how many times he double and triple check my hair with various types of shears. I will definitely return base on Kyle's passion and his artistry alone. I didn't insult the artist through monetary compensation but I did give him a big tip for his soon-to-be developed arthritis from his crazy non-stop shearing action. Before coming here I went to the same stylist I've been with for the last 4 years and would drive 45 min to an hour just to see her. Couldn't get an appointment with her recently and desperately needed a hair cut, so I chose this place based on their reviews and because they were only 5 min away from me. Kyle gave me a layered haircut and did an excellent job! Was very detail oriented and also gave great advice for my hair type (dry). Also the entire staff was very friendly! I came in for a consultation with a plan to make a better transition from my black roots to my bleached ends by adding color where it was needed and making my hair overall a little darker if needed. I met with Karen and she told me that I couldn't keep the light color and needed to get all my hair including my the bleached parts pretty dark so the transition from my black roots would look natural. I didn't really care too much about keeping my light ends because my main goal was to achieve a natural transition so I agreed and booked an appointment the following week. I mentally prepared myself for the big transition of going from twice bleached hair to back to dark and walked into the appointment excited for the change. As soon as I sat down and started talking to Karen, it was as if the consultation never happened and everything we talked about was completely forgotten about. I was extremely confused with what she was saying because now she was saying she was just going to tone my hair. Because I am NOT a hair stylist, I didn't know what that meant so I didn't ask her about all the hair terms and instead kept telling her exactly what I came in here to get and went to the washing station. She obviously ignored me because she just continued with her plan and while applying the chemicals to my hair, she starts telling me how this toner is temporary and is only going to last a couple months. I'm extremely confused at this point but I don't even know where to begin with questioning her because I have SO many so I continue because she already started. After she washes out the chemicals and she dries my hair, it's nowhere close to what I asked for with the slightest changed. I remind her what she told me at my consultation and she NOW decides to tell me bleached hair isn't able to hold color applied on top of it. I am absolutely baffled at her lack of communication and professionalism at this point, I ask her to do what she promised at the consultation. She then tries two more times to dye it dark enough. Now it is about two weeks after the appointment and my hair is officially back to the color what it was before I walked into the shop and very dry and damaged. I can't believe I paid $100 to go through that awful experience. So basically what I learned is that the free consultation is just to trick the client to believe what they ask for is achievable even when they think it's not and then when they come in to actually get it done, start doing random things and then let them know it's not achievable and your doing the best you can at that point. I wouldn't have even booked an appointment if Karen just told me bleached hair doesn't hold color at the consultation. read more
