We were in Denton for a wedding. Sis was mother of the groom. We booked hair and make up over a month in advance. We showed up and the make up artist apparently decided not to come to work today and didn't bother to tell anyone. We live out of state so none of us brought make up with us. We were really placed in a bad spot. The girl that "did" my hair spent less than 5 minutes with me and charged me $60. I had to stop on the way back to the hotel and buy hair products so I could wash and do my own hair. Overall, the worst salon experience I have ever had in my life. Found my new hair-home at this beautiful salon and in Kristin Gates's chair. I have had some less than appealing haircuts since Covid and went for a whole year without going to a stylist. Needless to say my hair was way too long, limp, and lifeless. Kristin took great care of me and brought life back into my hair, I have a newfound sense of confidence in my appearance, and I felt like she intuitively knew what I needed after a quick consult. She's experienced, open, fun, and talented. The perfect combo! I highly recommend Kristin and the salon itself is gorgeous, open concept but also somewhat private at the same time. Very cool vibes. Unfortunately, I was not at all happy with my cut. I asked for some long layers but what I got is too much cut off in the front. It's more of a shag cut then a long layered cut. The layers are so choppy I can't do anything with my hair now. I had been growing the length out for almost 2 years and now it's gone. 20 min and it was all on the floor. To put the nail in the coffin, this week I had someone say "Looks like you got the Rachel from Friends cut". Very disappointed. read more

Been coming here for awhile to the point my husband gets his beard trim and haircut. Both of my girls love it this place as well.

I feel extremely betrayed. I was just coming in for a haircut, and while I don't mind that a wash comes with the cut, what I didn't realize was that my stylist was using ALL MONAT PRODUCTS. Let me say this: I know a lot of people use Monat and don't have any issues. But Monat is facing a lot of lawsuits and people who have experienced SEVERE hair loss after a single wash. One use. I never, ever, ever wanted Monat to touch my hair. I've just seen too many testimonials and know too much about the ingredients (especially the red clover). My stylist was not up front about what products he was using and avoided using ANY product names. It was only at the end that he mentioned that it was Monat. I feel so deceived. I wish that I'd been told up front so I could choose whether or not to risk my hair. I came in on a word-of-mouth recommendation so I didn't check their Facebook otherwise I would have seen that they do use Monat here. I'm sorry, but it's just bad practice to not mention the name of what you're using if it's not an official salon product such as Redken, Wella, etc. I didn't even consider that this might happen to me. Hopefully this helps someone else who is looking around for a new stylist. I wish I'd been made aware... The stylist referred to the products not by name or brand name, but by "this one has lemon in it" = "the lemon shampoo"... I feel like that's so shady. Just a heads up. read more

previously went in dec 2022 with Stephanie, very amazing stylist did very well and was kind to me and gave me exactly what I wanted and more! decided to go back in march of 2023 and was very disappointed. cassidy did not give me the hair style I wanted, even though I acknowledged and understood how my hair was a different length from the reference picture I still wanted the style. apparently that was too much to ask for. my hair looks NOTHING like the reference picture and my layers are SUPER uneven and choppy. had to show her the reference picture 6+ times and she still somehow got it wrong. it was very obvious she had no idea what she was doing, I only noticed this after she chopped my hair off so it was too late. would've been totally okay with going to someone else if she wasn't experienced enough with the type of cut but she still attempted anyways. tried to be nice and try something new but was very disappointed. I followed Nathan to Soho when he started working here years ago. As long as I live in Denton, I won't go anywhere else! Even when I moved to Ft. Worth, I still came back for my hair appointments. Everyone is friendly, laid back, and great at what they do. The art on the walls is tasteful and usually made my a local artist. Carenina really seems to take care of her Soho family! It always smells like someone is cooking something divine in the kitchen and everyone who works there is always smiling. Love it! UPDATE: I moved AGAIN, this time to Allen, and I still drive back to Denton for Nathan! Him and the salon deserve the loyalty and praise. read more

I'm updating my review based on my last haircut from the salon. I was in a pinch, and all the stylists I've used previously were booked- so I decided to get a haircut from Nathan- who I had never used before. He was nice enough, and while I didn't necessarily have a "bad" experience, I didn't have quite the same experience as before. The haircut itself was fine. Not amazing, but fine. I get a very simple haircut, so I don't expect to be wowed. My trim took a rough 10 minutes, and my "blowout" took another 45. I'm used to this, my hair is long and incredibly thick. After waiting 15 minutes, the appointment ran behind. The last 10 minutes of my appointment consisted of the receptionist repeatedly coming in and informing Nathan that the next customer had arrived early and was waiting, which made me feel very rushed and frankly guilty- like my hair was taking too long. I was sent off to pay and was charged $50, which is $15 more than what I've been charged by all the other stylists. Looking back, I should have asked why the cut cost so much more. Maybe it was because I had a different stylist, maybe it was because I asked for a blowout. Not sure. Either way, I was disappointed. Worst part was as I left the salon and drove home, I felt of the back of my hair and realized it was still damp. My "blowout" consisted of a blow dry that left my hair pretty dry, slightly poufy, and not even completely dry. I've had blowouts over the years, and while they do take time with my hair- they've always left my hair shiny and bouncy. I'd honestly rather have a stylist straighten my hair than say that they can give a me a blowout when they clearly can't in an hour. So some places that the salon could improve: Be clear about pricing. Work on scheduling- not only did I have to wait for my appointment, but I was rushed out of my own, because we were booked too close together And just overall increasing customer service would be nice. I've had to wait a minimum of 10 minutes for every appointment I've had here. Receptionists are rarely at the front desk. I leave feeling rushed, and a lot of the times no one really even asks if everything went well. I like the salon, it's convenient for my location and they usually have appointments available, but this last visit left a bad taste in my mouth and now that it's about time for me to book another I think I'll be looking elsewhere. read more

I ended up leaving Soho Salon a few years ago when a male stylist told me he thought I wouldn't look good with short hair and basically refused to do the cut. I got the cut I wanted elsewhere, and have rocked the short look for a while now. I think he was wrong, or just unwilling to do an adventurous cut in favor of doing the easy thing. He also made some vaguely offensive comments about people who are different from him, and this eventually pushed me over the edge. I go to Denton Color Lab now and it's the absolute best. I'm scared to bleach my own hair, so when I decided to do unnatural colors, I came to see Alaina at Soho based on a recommendation from a friend. The past two times I've been, she's done a great job and is great to converse with! The color always turns out soooooo pretty. Would highly recommend seeing her if you want some awesome color. As for the salon itself, it has a nice, comfortable vibe and everyone is having a good time in there. ALSO- THEY HAVE COMPLIMENTARY COFFEE ( SUPER PLUS FOR ME). I got my haircut here for the first time to get a trim. Unfortunately, I got way more than I bargained for. The stylist butchered my long hair that I've grown out for years to rib cage length. She thought because my hair is wavy that this certain cut she was doing would be best. Once I got home and straightened it, and I was horrified by the layers she had put it in. It was so bad that I had to go to my regular guy in Dallas to fix it. I went from having beautiful long hair to hair that now sits at about shoulder length. DO NOT GO HERE. It's worth the money to go elsewhere. I'm writing this review because I don't want anyone to experience what I had gone through. I've never in my life have had such a bad haircut experience. I really wanted to like this place because of all the good reviews, but my experience was uncomfortable and I didn't leave with the cut I asked for. I went in after letting my hair grow out from a bad haircut from a stylist in training. The stylist at Soho, Michelle, told me multiple times how bad my hair looked. I laughed the first time but she kept going on about how bad it looked and I started feeling pretty uncomfortable after a while. She also refused to cut it the way I wanted. I kept asking her to cut a sideswept bang, but she told me outright that it would not look good. I left feeling put down and not liking my haircut. I would try to go to a different stylist here, but I am afraid of running into Michelle again, who thought it was okay to repeatedly tell me how bad my hair looked and that I didn't know how to take care of it properly. read more

It took two tries to find a colorist that I like at SoHo, but Kelly is awesome!!! I have super-thick, long (bleached) blond hair that is pretty hard to color correctly, but Kelly gave me perfect, natural looking highlights and lowlights. I haven't been this happy with my hair in a few years, to say the least. The atmosphere is also great. I love the homey aesthetic and the local artwork. It's just chic enough, while still being eclectic and interesting. Always something to stare at while your foils are processing. read more

Came to see Yolanda for brown/blonde balayage. After 5+ hours of sitting in a chair, I was left with green, grey, red/brown hair and tears in my eyes. Not only was my hair damaged and scalp burned, the outcome was nothing like the picture I showed her. I finally left the salon with wet blotchy dark hair (trying to fix the green/grey mess). This morning I wake up to a green light brown head of hair and utter embarrassment. Do not recommend. read more

She runs a great shop that has a relaxed atmosphere in a great old building. She also features local artists from jewelry to art to purses in her lobby. Nice to support local in multiple ways. She didn't get started on me until about 20 minutes or more after my appointment time, but my stylist was very nice and did a great job on my hair. I do not recommend going to Nathan at Soho Salon for coloring. I went to see him a few months ago to get caramel highlights on my dark brown hair. It was my first time to have my hair professionally colored- and I was a little nervous- so I brought plenty of pictures and explained what I wanted. When Nathan finished my hair 3 hours later, my hair was completely bleached blonde and did not resemble anything close to what I wanted- no highlights, just uneven blonde color all over, with my roots still dark. (Picture posted) When he finished I knew it was way, way too light- and I told him that- but he reassured me it looked good and that "in a few weeks I could come back in for a color glaze." It wasn't until I got home and looked at the pictures of what I wanted initially that: 1) it wasn't even close to what I originally showed him- my brown hair was completely gone (except at my roots) and 2) he had completely fried, damaged and ruined my hair. Not only was the color bleached out and uneven with hints of orange and rose gold, the texture of my hair felt dead and disgusting. I called the Salon the next day to speak with him about a refund, but was told he was with another customer. The owner (who was very nice) ended up calling me back two days later and apologized for him, saying "Nathan told me what happened, he did an Ombré earlier that day so maybe that's what happened." I couldn't believe that he knew he had messed up my hair but still let me walk out of the salon without offering to fix it. The owner offered for me to come back in for a free deep conditioning treatment (I declined, as I had already made arrangements to get my hair fixed elsewhere) and she also was ready to give me a full refund, which I greatly appreciated and accepted. While the owner was very nice and apologetic, Nathan's lack of response and customer service was extremely disappointing after he ruined my hair. I didn't ever hear back for a clear explanation or apology from him. Based on my experience I will not be returning and would not recommend going to see Nathan at Soho Salon for any hair coloring. read more

I would not recommend this salon. I needed to find a new salon because I didn't like the one I was previously going to. I had an appointment scheduled for 3:00 so I showed up at the right time and when I walked in there was no one at the reception table. I waited for at least 5 minutes before someone actually showed up. I told the receptionist my name and then he said that someone would be with me soon, so I took a seat and waited. The hairstylist I was scheduled with came in and said that she would be with me in 15 minutes. I ended up waiting there for 50 long minutes. I will be sure not to come to this salon again and I will definitely not recommend it to my friends. If someone has an appointment scheduled then they shouldn't be waiting there for 50 minutes. That defeats to purpose of having an appointment. I guess I have to keep searching for my new salon... read more

I really hate leaving reviews because I feel bad but I wouldn't want anyone else to have the same experience as I did. I made an appointment to see Nathan on Saturday the 16th and was SUPER excited to finally love my hair again and feel myself. I had previously had a balayage done the last year with someone different and then dyed it back to brown about 4 months ago. Some of the brown washed out so I was left with a few random blonde pieces and just wanted to blend it. Nathan assured me he would be able to do the job and that I would finally be able to feel confident about my hair again. Nathan started my hair 30 mins late and while he was doing my hair I was very skeptical because it seemed like he was putting bleach on my whole head which is NOT what I asked for. But I was staying positive and just trusting him because he had sounded like he knew what he was doing and assured me that he was the one for the job. As soon as he is done putting the bleach on he takes me to the waiting area and starts his next appointment with another lady. He did her whole head with color and didn't check on my hair once. We go to the rinse bowl and I hadn't seen my hair yet so I was super excited to see the outcome because I had high hopes. After he's done washing my hair we go to dry it. I was so so so disappointed in the results, my hair is ORANGE AND COMPLETELY FRIED!! and i'm pretty sure he could tell by the look on my face that I HATED it, all he said is "This is such a pretty color, once you' get tan you'll love it and want it lighter". It looks like I bleached it at home and it grew out so I have dark brown roots. I had to go somewhere very important after this hair appointment and I literally wore my hair in a messy bun because I was so ashamed of it. He charged me $365 and later that evening I receive a call and he says he over charged me and would reimburse me what he overcharged. I still have not received the money and it's Tuesday. I just called up there and requested to speak to the owner. I attached the picture of what I wanted done vs what I received. Hopefully this can help y'all! I came here after a friend suggested her stylist to me so I made an appointment. Gail was awesome! She's super friendly, nice, and a great stylist. She's passionate about her job and a dedicated stylist. She worked with me to get my hair exactly how I wanted it, even staying extra hours to get it the correct shade (went from colored brown back to blonde). I love the atmosphere of the salon. It's a unique house with great design and decor. I haven't been to any of the other stylists so I can't comment on them. The only reason I probably won't be going back is because it's too pricey for my broke student budget (however, I know Gail is willing to work with you). I would definitely recommend Gail if you have the money to spend though! I totally trust her with a hair emergency, especially color. read more

I've been going to Soho since I lost my favorite hairdresser in Austin by moving up north for college. I started out with Carenina and ended up switching over to Gail by a quirk of scheduling. I love them both, but Gail's my girl. If you're looking for a great salon with a lovely atmosphere and nice, talented staff, this is the place. It's not super cheap, but they won't make you pay with your first born child either. I totally recommend them! read more

Was tired of my old salon (Davanti, new owners and lots of snotty workers), but was afraid to try a new stylist. I have long healthy hair that I like to be layered perfectly, I personally, on me, hate choppy layers. My hair is fine and I have a lot of it and I want it to lay pretty. Nathan did an excellent job. I WILL be going back. They price based on knowledge of the hairdresser, so ya, this isn't some lame procuts or something. The only complaint I have is that whoever is supposed to be sitting at the front desk seems like she was running around aimlessly and not really there to greet people as they walked it.
