Unfortunately Platinum is the only place on Lake Travis that can do certain kinds of work. That seems to have enabled them to charge exorbitant fees and do poor-quality work. These people are pirates, don't do business with them if you can avoid it. I paid them $2000 to paint the bottom of my sailboat and they left a wide sticky strip of masking tape residue above the paint line all around the boat. Also even managed to paint above the tape in places. When I complained they did nothing. It will take me many hours to scrub that off. read more

This happened in Dec of 2014. Been meaning to put a review on Yelp and was on yelp this AM for something else and thought, why not now! I delivered boat to them saying that shifter was loose (worked fine, just loose) and to clean up boat and polish. I get back boat with a bunch of disrespectful talk about the age and pedigree of our boat plus shifter that was messed up and part way disassembled, and a cleaned up/buffed boat without polish to prevent oxidation. Big long meeting with service manager and then owner. Sorry guys, you are gonna put the shifter back to right. They finally did but only after accusing me of lying about the state of the shifter. And I did not realize until spring that they had buffed the paint but had not put on polish to prevent oxidation. I I had to do both in the spring. The upfront costs were not explained well and cost double what I was expecting. They had a sign (or used to) above the counter that said, "Thank god for boat owners and their fat wallets". Stay away from these guys unless you have a huge like 35+ foot boat and lots of money to spend on it. read more

We are now customers this season at Emerald Point Marina and have had the opportunity to work with those at Platinum Marine as well and from the first day we launched they were incredibly helpful went above and beyond to help my husband launch our boat. We had a small incident on the water not to long ago and they were incredibly accommodating lifting our boat up out of the water and placing it on a work station allowing us to inspect and make sure our baby was free of any major damage to the hull. YEah......I was not impressed. They present themselves as a "premier" boat service and that's most definitively what you get. We had them do a bottom job and the final cost came out about $1,000.00 more than they quoted. We also had them install a new depth gauge and stereo and told them 5 times exactly which one goes where...and sure enough they got it wrong. I think they try and the folks are nice, just too big and don't really care that much if they get it right or wrong. I wont go back. read more

they want to charge $19 a foot to pull a boat out of the water because they have one of the only places to do it on the lake...... That is taking advantage of the situation too much. Sail & Ski is less than 1/2 the cost I believe in a fair system but they are overboard! I stopped in to Platinum Marine on Lake Travis today to get the cost and schedule a haul out on my 27' sailboat. I need to have the mast unstepped and laid down on my boat and then the boat lifted out and placed on my personal trailer. The young man quoted the haul out at $100.00 per foot. $2,700.00 I was told if I would let them do a bottom job on my boat they would discount the haul out cost. I am building replacement cabinets for the boat and going to install a marine a/c unit that I have already bought. If I dont let them do the work I must pay $100.00 per foot to get it out of the water. They are the only shop on Lake Travis that has a travel lift. Beware if you need a lift on Lake Travis. You will need deep pockets!!! I dont mind paying a fare wage for a fare job but this is a little over the top. read more

This place is a joke. We tried to buy a smoker craft pontoon from them. The first day we took it out it wouldn't run. We were told by Morgan Smith that it would be fixed the next day so we waited. We sent several text and there was a lack of communication from him. We finally got ahold of him on the Tuesday after Labor Day and asked for the money back. He said to give him a change to make the repairs so we did. Needless to say we ran into the same problem as before with the lack of communication and still a pontoon that wouldn't run. Service manager was difficult to work with, horrible communicator and wasn't aware of the scope of work being paid for. I was told several times that the work was complete and asked to pay balance but on both times work was incomplete not up to par and he was unaware of it. Even on haul out he didn't want to walk the boat and look at it. I found that they were more interested in billing and rushing the job than doing a good job. Several other large boat owners at our marina have had similar observations. Being the only large haul out facility on the lake has given them an air of take it or leave it despite their mission statement. Get everything in writing and best of luck with the young, obstinate service manager. read more

I must amend my earlier positive review. After waiting for weeks, letting Platinum know the date and time our transport would come, none of the work was done. Even after our transport showed up, they balked, asking for several more days and $2000 more to get the work done. They had broken our windshield. The owner was not only condescending, but outright rude. The sad part is that this is only place that can do most of the work we need to derig this size boat, and they know that they have you over a barrel. I highly recommend going anywhere else and contracting out your work to avoid Platinum if at all possible. read more

I rarely write reviews, but I'm so shocked at Platinum's behavior I want to warn Austin of their immaturity. I own a 20 year old tiny starter boat. Due to low water conditions I hit a sand bar and damaged my lower unit and prop. I lease at Emerald Point Marina so I sold my trailer (dumb move) and instinctively went to Platinum since they are on site. The quote was between 5-6K! While this included additional repairs recommended, I knew insurance would only pay for the damage done during the accident. I only paid 5K for the boat! I asked if there was a less expensive way to repair her. I was told there was an after market part but that they were garbage, would break after using her a couple times, and they wouldn't warranty the repair. I was devastated. My little boat is my baby. I called and got my insurance quote, which paid me $1500, enough for the after market lower unit, a new prop, labor, and some adjustments due to the impact. I had no choice but to call around and find a mobile mechanic to help me. The mobile mechanic quoted me exactly what my insurance company was willing to pay so it was a no brainer. I hired him and met him at the marina. During the two hour repair, an employee from Platinum came down to our location and had a temper tantrum in front of myself and four Emerald Point employees. I have his name and the audio on my phone so no need denying it. I haven't seen anything like this since elementary school. I made it clear that I went to them FIRST but couldn't afford their pricing! WTH? The mobile mechanic was banned from the marina but was told he could finish my job. Two nights ago my mobile mechanic came for a test drive to make sure his repair was successful, after hours, down on the water, and I was not charged anything for completing the first project. A different employee from Platinum approached us, acted like a nice neighbor then walked away. He too complained to Emerald Point. Again WTH?? I have seen many boats being detailed AND repaired on the dry stations over the past year but will take her off site going forward. Come to your own conclusions. read more

Platinum is truely a full service company that has the ability to haul the largest boats on Lake Travis even when the lake was at a very low level prior to the recent rise in water levels. The work was performed in a very timely and professional manner, the owner, Mike Kern a pleasure to work with and the employees helpful, friendly and craftsmanlike. Charged $500 to replace the plugs and cables. Claimed to have tested the engine but left the hose from the water pump disconnected when they returned the boat. So they either ran the boat dry or did not run it at all after the work. Could have sunk the boat except my friend noticed the water filling the hull. Never again. read more

I would say to anyone looking at having any type of work at this place that you need to stay away... Back in December we brought our boat in to have the bottom paint job done and also to have the out drive serviced and wax job. Well, all I can say is that you really need to stay as far away from this company as you can.. Long story short.. They blew the engine up in our boat.. Our boat is a 26 ft wellcraft, so blowing up an engine is a very expensive item to replace. $ 6,000.00 . The crew that they have working on your boat will test drive your boat and drive it to the fastest speed that your boat will go, the manager even told us that is standard for each boat to make sure that all is working properly, mind you that he only said this after the fact that they blew up the engine, they don't tell you before hand when you drop your boat off.. I have thought that maybe I wouldn't write a review, but i have now spoken to 2 other boat owners that the same thing happened to them. So I feel that other people need to be warned of this company... read more
