I honestly never had a bad experience coming to Plato's Closet. I think out of all thrift stores this is the best one for secondhand. I find nice clothes and walk out satisfied every time. They don't only sell women clothes but they also have shoes, accessories and also men clothing. I think they should add in baby clothes into the store I feel like they would do more in business because a lot of moms are always looking for clothes for their babies and kids. It can be expensive and they also grow out of it fast! I've also sold clothes here and never had a problem with that either! I'll be back to shop again! read more

Do not recommend. I'm never going back. This was my fourth time trying to give this place a chance after hearing decent word of mouth reviews, but every time I go, they either don't take my clothes or only offer $2 for good brand items. They always have a different excuse: "We're not giving cash today," "We're not taking fall items", and the last time I went, just a couple of days ago, they said, "We're not taking summer clothes anymore." They also claimed my items weren't in good condition, even though they were cute and in great shape. The only thing they bought was a Nike T-shirt, and they offered just $2 for it. At this point, don't waste your gas. You're better off selling your clothes on Facebook Marketplace or Depop, where you'll get much more for them. read more

I drove across town to bring a bag full of good, cute name-brand summer clothes. However, when I arrived, I noticed that there was no line, so I anticipated that it would only take about 15 minutes to complete my purchase & they are only offering store credit..Despite this, I barely left the parking lot when the staff informed me that my items were ready. Essentially, they did not even examine the contents of my bag and simply left my belongings unattended on the counter. As a result, I will never return to this store or shop here again. I stopped by today and wanted to try some jeans on I noticed 3 employees working 1 ringing up and the other 2 sorting clothes, so i asked the cashier if i could please get a fitting room mind you all doors were opened, but ill rather ask... she answers "yes in a minute" that never happened.... so i get in line to pay there was 3 people ahead of me it took her about 1/2 an hour to ring up 3 people because she kept on talking about each single item being purchased n literally moved like a sloth Management needs to add cameras to see how he/she can improve this business. read more

So came to check this place out, i only brought in a few items to sell. Nike items and Ugg. The girl who assisted me was nice and gave me a $5 off coupon for anything in the store. They purchased the items I brought in except a pair of gray Levi's, apparently they no longer accept skinny jeans. No problem. I was okay with the amount they gave me, I also found a pair of brand new Adidas sweat pants, tags stilll attached that normally retailed for $50, I paid only $5 because I used the coupon they gave me!! I've been shopping second hand a lot and decided to make my way Platos to make some quick cash. I literally took one pair of Lauren Conrad jeans, but it looks like they are moving away from distressed jeans, a floral dress which I saw a ton of while I was meandering (they most likely rejected my clothing because I was in a bright green mature looking kaftan, lol) a giants baseball cap and a Lakers baseball cap. I waited for about 2 hours, went to Ross and Starbucks and got $7 for the baseball caps. (I won't be parting with my Dodgers stuff any time soon). They did offer me $5 off for me selling things or to do a trade. I would have totally bought a pair of jeans, but I already got a refresher from Starbucks and needed $ to pay for that. Would I go again? Yeah, now that I know what they are looking for which basically isn't anything I wear since they cater to younger demographics, but stuff I was trying to sell in 2009 and got from Gottschalks & Macy's are literally trending now because Y2K-Y3K styles are in, like Alanis Morisette said, isn't it ironic? read more

I always come and sell here and I'm WELL aware of the buy process, policy and the current store needs. Today I picked up my clothes around 4:40pm had a pair of new Zara jeans that didn't get taken because of "wear and condition". At first I wasn't concerned until I checked the jeans again. I was speaking to the manager but when I said "I just don't understand they're brand new" the girl working at the front counter turned & gave me a dirty look then began mumbling under her breath to her coworker with a nasty attitude. You guys need to answer the phone!! It is a huge part of costumer service and bad business when one simple question,coming from a very frequent costumer, takes this long to answer. I have been on hold for 16 minutes at this point and all I am asking is if they are buying today. Worst place ever! Very unprofessional and almost scam like. I came in with 4 bags of clothes and shoes and they only took 3 shirts which were brand new and brands from fashion fair, then they offered my 5 dollars for it, I didn't end up taking it and when I got home I realized that they took a pair of my Air Force 1s that were almost new and never really worn, I went back the next day just for them to tell me that they didn't take anything and that I probably missed placed the shoe, very rude and Im Calling the cops next time this happens. I've been selling my clothes here for years and the workers couldn't be more picky ! Came in with BAGS full to the top yet they only take 4 items for 15 dollars ..? They have a list of items they want and will take but don't relay back to that when it comes to picking . I stumbled upon this place on yelp because I wanted to take my teen thrifting after dinner on a Sunday. Most places aren't open past 5ish, but this place closes at 7. Win win for Mom and daughter shopping duo! Since August, I've been here maybe like 7-8 times. My favorite buys so far are the several pairs of shoes I've scored at crazy deals. I found a pair of Nike Air maxes for under $20, originally over $100, a checkered pair of Van's for under $20 originally over $60. I also got a pair of Nike running shoes in pretty new condition for under $20 and it was over $100 originally. I also have purchased a bunch of jeans for under $20 as well. I LOVE their jeans section it's so extensive. I can go in here and stay here trying on items for hours, it's one of my favorite Fresno finds. My 18 year old comes here all the time too. I've signed up for the text messaging and get notifications when they have sales. I also get discounts when I rack up a certain amount of points. My only complaint is some, but few items are ridiculously priced. Some linty, crumby items that you can get for new for the same priced are elsewhere, but I don't count this against them too much because the prices are more cheaply priced than not. They have all kinds of items from shoes, purses, jackets, sweaters, jackets, boots, sneaks, active wear, sunglasses, etc. Great to come and take your frugal self for a relaxing day out for a few hours and save some bucks. read more

I stopped by to look for some clothes with my girlfriend last night, when all 5 of the employees were chatting the whole time amongst each other about how they think evolution is fake, and that they think the people who believe it are 'stupid'. This is putting it lightly, as the experience was very offputting and uncomfortable. They were barely working, didn't ask anyone if they needed help, and there was a line to checkout with only 1 of them on the register. I don't shop here often but I did give it a chance at donating some clothes. I ended up giving them 2 bags of clothes with a pair of shoes. The next day I went to pick up my clothes and they let me know that they weren't able to take anything, which i was fine with. Employees were extremely rude and made us go next door to ross to buy reusable bags because our bag was slightly torn at the very bottom. Literally spent an hour here waiting for them to "check" two bags and a pair of $150 boots still in the box my friend brought in. Just for them to not even glance at them the entire time. When she walked up to the counter to check on the status of her bags the bratty teenage girl they gave working at the front just said "Uhhh yeah we don't really take things like this.." What does that even mean? Half of the clothes in her bags were urban outfitters with the tags still on. You guys sell used shein and target clothes lmfao?? Pretty sure these girls were just too lazy to look through anything and just turned us away. It was my first time ever going here and even after reading the reviews I should have just not gone but I was like let me take my shot. So I had called and spoke with Melani. I asked her a couple questions such as what do they accept and so on. She had told me they were mainly taking fall clothes but if I had any besides that I could still take it in. I had decided I was only going to take in my fall clothes like sweaters and jackets just to try it out. I took in two bins full and in great condition to only return and she tells me that the majority of my clothes was out of season and that they were only purchasing 3 items. I came here to resell some of my clothes. All my clothes were on hangers. I was told it's remove them and put them in trash bag which I did and had a total of 6 bags. Then they wanted me to leave with them so they can inspect and take whatever appeared appropriate for resale. When it was time for checkout, I was told that they were interested in 7 articles. Money in cash was given. But prior to given them all my clothes I counted how many hangers I had and it was a total of 75 articles. When I got home I put the articles back onto the hangers and noted that 10 articles were missing on top of the 7 they accounted for. I later that day spoke to the manager name Andrew and told him what had happened. He said he would call me back but never did. So I would be very cautious on how they deal with your clothes because this place is pretty shady!! read more

Customer service is something you can't force out of anyone, it's something in all our nature to always be presentable to be able to represent anything. The store has lost its touch over the years, in general I feel like it has gotten so messy or the employees are getting lazy to clean little details about the store to make it look Presentable. I think I am slightly too old for Plato's Closet now, but Fresno seriously lacks in a good consignment store (I would really love a Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange to open up!) so I've come in to take a peek. I've also sold a couple things here and received a pretty decent return. They are very clear about what they are looking to buy, which is helpful when I'm gathering up things to sell. The pros for Plato's Closet is that the store is absolutely packed with items, so you're likely to come away with something you're looking for! Like most Plato's I've been in, though, some of the items are in pretty bad condition and probably should be removed from the racks. The cashiers and buyers are always pretty friendly and they greet you upon entrance. They also have fitting rooms if you'd like to try on your treasures. The cons are the store is definitely a little dusty/dirty and the music is unbelievably loud (am I old?! haha!) but it kind of detracts from the shopping experience. One good sweep and turning down the music just a little would make a huge difference IMO. I will keep coming back to check out this Plato's to try and make my shopping habits more sustainable, while keeping my fingers crossed another consignment chain opens up around here. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with Plato's. It's the only clothing store I can make a quick buck for the clothes I don't want , so I keep coming but I definitely know how they work and I know what to expect, so I never get my hopes up lol They're picky and won't buy a lot of items and will justify it by saying that "the styles are past season" or "it looked too worn out " and you can then proceed to meander through the isles and pick out busted, worn out garments with loose threads and stains and become completely baffled. But that's just how they are here. Also, they will not take "mature" brands i.e banana republic, j crew, gap, inc, Ann Taylor etc. this is because the store needs to stay relevant to their target market of consumers which is young teens. Therefore only accept teeny bopper brands like Hollister , American eagle, forever 21 etc. On a better note they now hand out double sided index cards with photos with specific styles they are looking for at the moment, which is very helpful and can avoid disappointment. And the clearance events they have can be a gold jmine, you'll pay goodwill prices on decent clothing items if you look hard enough. read more

Yesterday I attended the Black Friday sale and to say the least it was obviously chaotic. People were cutting in line, sitting in other peoples chairs and not giving them their spot back, and some people put three chairs out to hold their spot and brought 10 more people to stand in line with them. I definitely think that their needs to be a better system in place as far as how they do things for this event so that it is fair and equal opportunity is giving to everyone. Other than that once I voice my concerns to the manager on shift which was Jerry he took them into consideration and helped us out with the situation without hesitation. He kept his team going and in good spirits and did his best to calm the chaos in the store! Overall I do love this store and I came out with some awesome things! read more

First of all, I understand that they're trying to only buy clothes that are decent but they're always wanting brand new clothes and it's a second hand store!! Not only did that but supposedly they didn't want to take any of my stuff because "it wasn't in season, and it looked very used" yet, they took a lot of my clothes and didn't even pay me. I had some adidas leggings, hollister pants and Nike sweaters that are all missing. I honestly was planning to donate the clothes they didn't take afterwards but because they said it was "very used", I felt embarrassed and ended just donating it to a thrift store.
