Ended up with nothing accepted, which was kind of disappointing. I didn't really stick around to shop after that, but it seems like they are very picky about what they buy. So I am new to the area so this would be my first experience at a Plato's Closet in Maryland though I have sold in South Carolina and Georgia. I came on a Sunday (call ahead - they only buy until 3pm and sometimes stop before). I came by with 2 bags and they let me know there are 3 people ahead of me and quoted 20-25 min and that I must stay in store. It has now been an hour and I still haven't received my clothes. At other states, regardless of the day, I can typically drop off and come back within the hour or so and get a text when it is done. 1-Star Review | Platos Closet - College Park, MD This was my first and definitely my last time visiting this location. I came in to sell a large bag of gently used clothes and brand new clothes, including a purse, belt, shoes, and more clothing. BAG FULL. The young lady I spoke with twice told me they would go through my items while I waited and then make an offer. At no point did she explain that I would need to leave my items behind. Had I known, I would've taken photos of what I was dropping off for documentation. About 20 minutes after leaving, I received a call to return for my offer and remaining items. When I arrived, they offered me $24, which honestly felt insulting given the volume and quality of what I dropped off. But what made matters worse was that what they returned to me was clearly less than what I had brought in. I asked the staff to show me exactly what they were keeping, and they could only produce about 5 or 6 shirts. That's it. No shoes, no purse, no belt, and no explanation for the other missing items. I questioned the guy at the counter who I gave my thinga to, and he had nothing to say. Someone who was with me also noticed there was cashier that was there had a guilty look on her face, young lady, which only added to my disappointment. Bottom line: I feel cheated, and I don't trust this location with my belongings. If you're considering selling here, take photos and keep records of your items, or better yet, take your business elsewhere. This experience was shady and unprofessional. I've visited quite a few locations around the U.S. and this location is by far the worst store that I've visited. I mostly sell but this location makes you wait in store while they go through your things so I was forced to browse to kill time. The clothes that they are selling look pretty gross tbh. Everything looked so dingy and just flat out dirty. The items were outdated and it had a stench throughout the store. Upon arrival, the guy who seemed to be the manager was not welcoming at all which gave me the vibe I was gonna be wasting my time. I gave them 2 large totes full of gently used denim from American eagle, Zara and H&M with some tops and active wear sprinkled in there and one tote full of heels from Zara and Steve Madden. They only took about 8 pair of denim for $45 despite their list of needing women's denim, shoes, active wear and tops. Mind you I wasn't selling anything more than 2 years old. This is my first yelp review...ever...but I have to say something. Once I checked the reviews I realized I'm not alone. I brought items that I know they were asking for, some brand new. I watched as the manager denied all but 4 of my items for the craziest reasons. "We don't buy new"...while advertising for new items on their flyers. They ended up giving me $16 for 4 items, which included Calvin Klein sweaters and AE jeans. The poor sales associate who had to break the news to me felt so bad. Keep your nice things and just donate them to a good organization. This place doesn't deserve your stuff. read more

Zero Stars: Rude and Racist? I came here to sell and purchase clothing. None of the items were accepted, which is fine, but one of the "managers," Allison rudely told me I couldn't keep the paper with my license number on it. I would have been fine with her keeping it, but how she approached the situation was extremely out of hand. I firmly believe that she requires immediate course correction and customer service skills training. I'd hate to make assumptions, but she was only rude to Black customers and a Black staff member. She lacks both class and professionalism. I'd recommend that anyone with class and respect for themselves avoid this location. I called to speak to another manager and Kellie was initially receptive but later in the call giggled at my concerns. Whether it's racism or rudeness, none of it belongs in a place of business. Drove 30 mins to sell things. They weren't buying. I call and ask when they'll be buying, they said Tuesday. I drive 30 mins out there Tuesday to get turned away AGAIN. I just asked them when the best time to sell would be and they said "I dunno you can try again tomorrow" and had another woman screaming in the background "WE'RE NOT BUYING ANYTHING ELSE TODAY! This is the 3rd Plato's closet I've been to, having visited the one in Honolulu, and Colorado Springs. Came in to buy, and knowing the store was packed to the max, I made sure I had time to rifle through everything. There's some gems mixed into the cheesiness, but I came out happy, having taken advantage of the Spring discounts going on. DRESSING ROOMS: Can only take 6 items in at a time, but let the workers there know if you wanna start a bin for items you want to buy, they'll keep it at the register for you. CLOTHES NOTE: Make sure to inspect shirts. I found a lot on the rack that had some make up on them from people takin' them on and off. TOTAL: I bought 2 pairs of shorts, 4 pairs of pants, 1 tank top, 1 dress length shirt, and 2 short sleeve shirts for the total (before tax) to come out to be 83.50. I had $14.50 in discounts, according to my receipt. I am pretty happy with this turn out. read more

My husband and I had a terrible experience with this Plato's closet. There is a male employee there, white and roughly in his 40s. He was extremely unprofessional and rude to my husband. We have animals and even though the clothing was washed, there was a bit on some of the clothing. He kept making comments about the pet hair infront of everyone, also kept repeating the stuff they weren't accepting right now. When my husband went to pick up the basket, he told him that he needed to bring a new basket in next time because it got some on the floor and he had no choice but to "vacuum". I am absolutely appalled by the treatment of this man and very disappointed. When this store first opened it was nice but not now. Was there today and found several items with rips and stains. While waiting to check out with the two items that we did find, was greeted with "hello how are you" my general response is always good or fine, followed with and how are you? The cashier responded with "I am well" with another employee chiming in stating that is how you know someone is well educated if they respond with "I am well"...... I called again a few hours later and spoke to a girl before I left, to double check and make sure they still had it, before I drove there and she even thanked me for calling!!! I get there and the bodysuit was sold! And then going to lie and say they called me back to tell me. I drove all the way to this location and wasted gas from Baltimore to get it. Then they messaged me the next day saying they still had it and there was a mix up. They also claimed they may have called the wrong number. All of these negative Yelp reviews make me so sad. I've never had a bad experience at this store. I like to imagine myself a young adult but let's be honest I'm starting to age out of the selection here. Never once have I been treated that I'm unwelcome in this store. All of the employees are kind and respectful. Today I made an exchange and a sale, the associate Chippy, was cheerful and helpful. We even joked a bit. The store is 100% Covid friendly. I saw the staff sanitize their hands multiple times as well as the register. One of my favorite places to shop. Oh and you gotta love the way everything is sorted by color! read more

I come in with a big bag of clothes and this man was sorting through my clothes which was good because I was looking at what he was doing and he put a lot of my clothes in the black bin which is a good thing and I was really excited about it but then I saw this other lady who worked there and yelled at him and telling him that he can't put those clothes in the bin and she took it out without looking at what it was and put it back in my bag and called me right away saying she couldn't take any of my clothes! Like she didn't even let him finish going through my bag since it was a big bag since the guy just started doing it. (I came in just to sell) I was the first person to bring in clothes on a Sunday. The employees were decently nice, or one was and the other girl gave me stink eyes, and they told me 30 minutes. Thinking this was low based on how busy they were, I gave them 40. Nope told another 15. Nope not ready. Overall it took them well over an hour to look at my clothes, many of them designer including a barely worn Lilly Pulitzer skirt. The result? $35 for 17 items. Yeesh what a waste of time. Based on what I saw, their clientele is a little more trashy than some of the other locations (I hope). The employee mumbled over some reasons why items weren't taken which half of them didn't apply since I saw them taken a stained tracksuit from someone else. They didn't take any "designer" labels like they claim, but I did get a whopping $1.5 for each of my Forever 21 items. The plus side is it's near a Home Depot if you need to run errands there. This place is terrible. Avoid at all cost. I have been going to the Towson Plato's Closet for years, but decided to switch it up and try this one. Big mistake. From the moment I signed in to sell items, I had a bad feeling about this place. They ask for your license (which Towson does too, but they give your license back immediately), they write down your license info, then have YOU fill out a form with all of your license info again (including your height and weight). Why? A bit overkill for a consignment shop, don't you think? The girl working the front counter looked 15, and I could barely hear her speak. If you're going to put someone up front, make it someone who looks, and sounds, like they know what they're doing. There were 5 employees working, yet I was told the wait was an hour (which turned out to be AN HOUR AND A HALF). I have NEVER waited even half that long at the Towson location, even at their busiest. I had 1 IKEA bag full of clothes (not that many items), but I decided to stick around since I made the drive and it was rush hour. The store itself is dirty and cluttered. I usually browse the store while waiting, picking up a few things to buy or trade in. I didn't see ONE ITEM in this store worth purchasing. I don't know what their criteria is, but everything was low quality and essentially junk clothing. Zero designer brands, hardly any name brands, clothes looked dirty and worn. I've seen a better selection at the Goodwill. While browsing, I had 2 employees ask if I needed help. I told them I was waiting to be called. Their response: "Oh." How about focus on reviewing the items I brought in, instead of trying to make a sale? It didn't help that 2 customers roamed the store while smelling like giant skunks covered in skunk juice (aka weed). After an hour and a half, my name was called. I received the dollar amount I was expecting (like I said, I've been going to the Towson location for years, I know what they pay and what they're looking for), but the overall experience was bad and not worth the trip at all. Took 3 bags full of clothes to sell and they refused to take any clothes giving me empty excuses, mentioning that the clothes were too mature and that they're being really picky because certain things don't sell well. However, the clothes, purses, and shoes in this location (Glen Burnie) aren't even that high quality so I have no idea what they're talking about. I totally agree with the other 1 star reviewers. I took brand new teen boy clothes in there from PAC Sun, Hollister etc and I heard the same lame excuses. They have the tackiest shoes and I've seen clothes on the racks with stains on them. I took a pr of jeans that were hanging up that had a large stain on the leg and asked them why they wouldn't take my almost brand new clothes? I got a mumbled I don't know and saw them hang the jeans back up! That store is a come on just to get you to go in and buy clothes. Don't fall for it! I went to Platos Closet Pasadena, MD. The guy said it was the law & had me fill out personal information for their computer system I waited 45 minutes for the guy to go through my clothes. All the things I brought were in very good condition to never worn and similar to items being sold currently on TJMax. He did not offer to buy anything I brought and tried to find something wrong with them. Being as he was so picky I showed him & the lady he worked with, clothing items in the store that were badly worn & the knitting was coming apart. I came there on Black Friday they had a sale I found this perfectly fitting tennis shoe , they then went to look for the pair to it and could not find it told me it should show up in a couple days ..
