This place is very unwelcoming. There is two nice workers here and the rest feel the need to let everyone know how shitty their day is going by giving you the most disrespect known to mankind. I was helped by a girl who was kind and helpful. At the end of my visit, I was helped by a girl who made it clear she wasn't happy with her life. There was no welcoming smile whatsoever--and I'm not saying everyone must be smiling 24/7, but when you don't receive the classic "Hi, how are you?" or "Did you find everything okay?" or even a "Have a nice night" after checking out, you know the business isn't run correctly or by respectful people. I went into this location excited to sell some clothes after hearing they changed hands. Unfortunately, I was met by extremely rude staff who mocked me and laughed at me in front of other customers! I politely told the girl at the register that the bin she was holding wasn't mine (it wasn't) and she SNAPPED at me and rudely said "these aren't your pants?" No they aren't. She then told me she was giving me back most of my items because "we're not taking summer items". I sweetly gave her a recommendation and asked if Plato's has ever considered posting on their social media page about which items they are and aren't taking. Another girl who claims to be the manager chimed in from behind and kept asking the girl assisting me "what did she say what did she say" to which the girl assisting me starting saying "shhhh". Extremely rude to talk about your customers in front of them like that. I then repeated myself and said "oh I had a suggestion that maybe Plato's closet could post about what types of items you are looking for!" And the girl assisting me then MOCKED ME to the manager and said in a condescending tone "it would be convenient". The "manager" then shook her shoulders at me, fluttered her eyes and said in an extremely rude manner "you can call". At this point I was extremely disappointed in the customer service and shocked that this is how a store would treat their customers. Upon mentioning that I would consider brining this to the managers attention on my way out of the store, all of the girls at the register started LAUGHING at me and one of them SCREAMED across the store "SHE IS THE MANAGER" and they all kept laughing. This childish behavior was DISGUSTING and something that i will not forget. I sincerely hope the owner sees the reviews and speaks with his employees. I really love the concept of this store. They buy and sell lightly worn clothing. Everything is priced super reasonable and you can find some really cute items. They sell everything from clothing to jewelry to sunglasses. Lots of cute little handbags and wallets! The store is clean and organized well. The workers are always so nice! I think I might sell some items next time. I asked about what they buy and as long as their inventory isn't too full, they will buy all kinds of current teen fashions from a variety of different stores. Cool! Okay selection. Honestly, unsure if the owner of The Ledgewood location knows how much it impacts who you put in front of the store. Employees behind the register are very rude. I wish I was exaggerating when I say every time I have walked in I have not ever received a greeting...not once. To make matters worse the customer behind me as well was not greeted and there was a total of 3 people behind the register. I would also like to add that there was absolutely no traffic in the store, and yes they did see myself & the second customer walk in. So, owner or manager if you are reading this you might want advise your staff that they should start greeting customers. Basically thieves! Brought in basket of clothes with tags still on from JCrew, Abercrombie and other quality brand names. They took my basket of clothes, scanned what they wanted, didn't let me see what they were keeping and only gave me $10.00 telling me that once they scanned me in, I automatically agreed to their price. Ugh this place is really going downhill so fast. The latest few cycles of new clothes have been so bad nobody over the age of 18 would wear them. Lots of those cheap, lame graphic tees with sayings like "iM sO oVeR yOu" or "WhEn I wAnT yOuR oPiNiOn I'Ll ReMoVe ThE dUcKtApE LOOOLLL" Oh I forgot to mention that one of the last few times I went there, the teenage girls that were working I guess forgot I was in the store and were talking about some shit I really did not need to hear underage girls talk about. If you REALLY look hard you can still find some decent stuff but when they're selling sweaters with pit stains and clothes for toddlers and their staff is talking about their vaginas it's kind of a turn off. read more

The selection is decent, however, I would not recommend selling here if you plan on making any money at all. I can't give a rating very disappointed but in order to post this I had to mark a star...every time I've been there to drop clothes off they barely take anything and if they do chances are you won't walk out with anymore than a whopping $30 for 3 bags of clothing. I've been to a few Plato's Closets and consignment stores and this one is by far my favorite! It's extremely neat and organized and the staff, especially the owner, is very friendly. He also does a great job explaining the process of how clothes are chosen. Whenever I have items that are in season and style, they are bought. It's as simple as that! Maybe people seem to complain because they aren't getting the perceived value for their items or are bringing in out of style/season items. It's happened to me too. However, if you're getting extra cash for items you know longer use, how could you complain? I simply just donate the rest! Plato's Closet is a business as well and they need to make money, so I believe the whole process is very fair. read more

Depressing vibe all the time. This place doesn't even deserve a star at all. Every time I've come here the staff acts like they are untouchable. There have been countless times I've brought brand new sweaters, men's wear and even unworn items and was sent home with it all because of "minor wear and stains". Then to be offered $5-10 for more than 2-3 items. Better off just donating clothes than wasting time making a stop here. Don't waste your time either. read more

This place is awesome! When you first walk in you are greeted by the friendly, knowledgeable staff and an awesome smell in the air (I know that's an unusual comment but it's true!) The clothes are in great condition and are very affordable. Everything is super organized (by size and clothing type) and they have several fitting rooms for your convenience. This Plato's is so organized. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they have everything arranged. I've sold to them about 3 times now and the turnout is usually good, I've gotten from $30 to $100 for my items! I wasn't expecting to receive that much cash for my stuff but very happy about it. Not a "Gold Star Store" like their website would have you believe. Really not worth your time or money. A few days I decided to sell 2 big bags of clothes, shoes, jewelry, scarves, and similar items. The girl working there said it would take about 20-25 minutes to go through. So I decided to browse, since it wouldn't take so long. The girl goes and helps another customer, and as soon as the guy left, she completely ignores my 2 bags and starts talking, loud enough for me to hear, to the other girls working about "if she totally knew that guy" for the next 15 minutes. Meanwhile, I'm still walking around the store. Once gossip time was over, she asks me about something in my bag, puts the 5 items she was "appraising" back in my bag, and tells me a laundry list of things that they're not taking, which included EVERYTHING that was in my 2 big bags, which she didn't even take the time to look at. My advice: go to a store that actually trains teenagers to have customer service skills. And from the other reviews I've seen, I'm glad I didn't sell any of my stuff there. But I find it ABSOLUTELY disgusting that the staff on Black Friday let this lady get away with buying most of the lululemon things (mind you there was a lot considering the event) so she could re sell them online. My main problems come more with the staff and the appearance of the store than the product. I have been shopping here for years because I like the idea of the store and I like thrifting, but it's never truly a great experience. They have become more and more ridiculously selective when selling to them, and I get next to nothing for what I sell. Even a PINK sweatshirt I hardly wore got me only $2. The staff always act like they don't want to be there and don't like you (they never greet me but will greet other people). However the prices are phenomenal and if you're like me and are willing to dig through a whole bunch of stuff to find a hidden gem (recently I got a super cute tank for $3, and got a cotton sweater last year for $10) then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I had a terrible experience with this specific Plato's Closet. The Princeton one was fantastic, this one.... not so much. My friend and I brought in several bags of high quality clothing, including Vineyard Vines, Michael Kors, Victoria's Secret, Brooks Brothers, etc. The staff was rude, and talked through us to each other. Our bags were untouched, items left exactly how I folded them and placed them into the bags. However they claimed the items had wear, which the majority of the items still had tags or were very well-kept. The Princeton store was very reasonable and went through nearly every item with us, even though they were busier when we went in. The store itself was not clean, poorly organized, and generally messy, which made for an unpleasant shopping experience. I would seriously NOT recommend coming here unless you want to leave FUMING! go to Princeton instead!! read more

They have a really good variety of clothes, shoes, bags & other accessories at such great prices! Everything there is pretty good quality for being slightly used. Stay far away from this place if you're looking to sell anything over $100.00. This store in particular the one in Fairfield in which I had visited recently is awful. My wife had a few fabulous pieces to sell and being she's petite and a business professional we felt we should give this place a try given some other positive reviews on Yelp. Never again, while browsing the store while she consigned it seemed like it was littered with dirty nightclub attire. Or a young teenager's closet. They buy a lot of Forever 21, H&M, and Joyce Leslie clothing. The girls working there were very unprofessional, and seemed to lack not only customer service skills but a keen eye for the Fashion Industry. I am extremely disappointed with my last 2 visits with this specific Plato's closet. The employees were EXTREMELY rude to me both times I came in and it was different employees each time. The second time I was going in I was hoping to get better customer service and it turned out to be even worse. I don't even think they went through my entire bag.. I had a Kate spade phone case that was in great condition that was still at the bottom of the bag. I had an entire bag of juicy couture jewelry that they did not even open. They took 6 of my items and I only got $9 dollars for all of it. Which is extremely confusing because they took a pair of BARELY used birkenstocks that were in perfect condition that run for about $175 new.... how does that make any sense that I only got $9 back with those shoes and 5 other items.. it doesn't I completely got ripped off. They also would not take a bunch of my other clothes that were totally in style and gently used when most of the clothes they have on their shelves are out of style and seem to be in the exact same condition as the clothes that I bought in????? I wish I could give them zero stars, I don't even know where to begin. Walking in you instantly feel the negativity coming off from the staff, they will stare at you and make you feel like you are invading their space. The clothes feel dirty. The shoes have DUST in them. Cat hair EVERYWHERE. While trying on clothes, you have to wait until one of the few teenage employees decides to grace you with their presence to open up the fitting room. They always stare at what you bring in like you have no taste or are too cheap. If you want to sell clothes go literally anywhere else. I had an $80 Lia Sophia necklace that they wanted to give me $1.25 for, absolutely ridiculous! They will make fun of what you bring and judge everything. They also take forever to search through your stuff. Recently, I arrived at the store with a decent but not overwhelming amount of clothes that I wanted to sell. An employee told me they would write my name on the white board when they were finished appraising the clothing. I waited around for twenty minutes until I finally went up to ask if my stuff was done, apparently it had been done for a while. They didn't write my name on the board and didn't even have the courtesy to call my name to say that my clothing had been processed. Honestly, I only have bad things to say about this place. Judging by all their ads on Pandora I figured they would be somewhat decent, but I guess all their money goes to social media and funding the shit employees. Teach your staff appropriate customer service, clean your store, stop accepting damaged, ripped, and dirty clothing. If you actually accepted decent clothes, regardless of the "designer", you'd have better luck. But seriously, most of all, fire your bitchy staff. read more

This place is run by absolute no experience, just a bunch of teenagers really. If you are looking to sell your clothes, shoes, or bags, try elsewhere! This place will offer you little to nothing for your clothes, and are very picky, even if you do bring in new items. Considering what they even have on the racks, it looks like they accept almost anything, but try again! Browsing their "selection" of clothes, a lot were out of fashion, holes in shirts/dresses, and they even tried selling a shirt that has a price tag from H&M of $2.99 for $6!
