First of let me start off by saying I was not happy or comfortable shopping there. I felt I was singled out and made to look like a criminal.. the employees kept watching me and moving around where I was located.. it's funny because I am black with blue hair you assume I will still. Trust me I am the last one to still from any store. I have worked too hard in life and sacrificed so much in the military to come out here and still. As a disabled veteran I am saddened that in 2019 people still discriminate and judge people by their color. I talked to the so called manager there named Eliza (I'm sure I spelt it wrong) she apologized and asked if I knew who. I told her all of them need training on not discriminating on people based on color. If you are going to watch one race then pls watch all. Upper management or corporate I advice you to look into your store and maybe let them know color or not how you identify a thief. I was very disappointed and will not be returning back to that store. Had to even ask the cashier to speak and say hello lol and funny thing is he was African American .. anyways I have been a manager and for sure I would train all of these individuals again and have a secret shopper to see if they do what they learned. Don't even bother wasting your time trying to sell your items here. They'll take clothing that's heavily faded and has lint balls all over them (yes this is what I saw as I was walking around waiting), but won't take your items that are practically brad new (3/4 months old most worn once). I feel as if they hurried up through my items and didn't really take the time to look at them since there was a line of people waiting to sell their items as well. They took maybe 10 minutes looking at my items!? Then the girl had the nerve to hand me a pamphlet that stated what they sell and or buy (forever 21, hollister, h&m etc) UHHH THIS IS WHAT I BROUGHT IN. Came here to sell old polos from high school upon graduation and was given the worst experience ever. Didn't notice they had sweat stains on them but the staff was quick to catch on. They held up the shirts in the middle of the store, pointed out the stains and then yelled out that it was a sweat stain embarrassing me in front of the entire store. I was so humiliated. Then wanted to pay me $2 for an Aeropostale shirt with tags still on it. Will never sell to this place again. read more

I've been to Plato's Closet before in Denton and Dallas, but was really not a huge fan. I got turned off because it's huge and there were all kinds of things everywhere! It is definitely not the place to be if you are looking for something in particular- only because things are scattered around and there is only one of everything. When Plato's Closet opened up in Mesquite (only a few mins away from home) i didn't fall into the hype and go to the grand opening because of my past disappointments.... BUT a few days ago i decided to check it out and i honestly could not be happier with my purchases! I got three pairs of shoes (Steve Madden, BCBG, and BeBe) for $25! I mean that is just unreal! I have always gone to this location for the longest time and enjoyed their service, but today I was told if I left the store it would be about an hour when my stuff would be able to be picked back up. I returned to the store an hour after I ran errands and it wasn't ready yet, which I was fine with so I walked to target and then came back 15 minutes later and I still wasn't completed. I stood next to the entrance for 30 minutes before someone had to ask me AND another girl who was waiting longer than I was what our last names were. The worker was nice enough to move us to in store bags, but then the out of store bags were being checked. The other girl almost left and told them she wanted her bag back, so they said they would do hers right then. I waited another 30 minutes after they moved my name up. From what was supposed to be about an hour turned into over two hours. I will never go back to this location again. Never have I have stood waiting that long with no one being concerned why a customer was just standing there. read more

I find that all Plato's closets are really close minded when they're buying items from you. Today I brought in 4 designer purses and 3 pairs of just regular black heels and a few shirts. They offered me almost $4 for two shirts and that's all. This happens all the time. When I first started selling to them, I would get around 20 to 40 dollars for my clothes and now I only get 4 dollars?? I understand they need to make a profit but still, 4 dollars for shirts that cost me almost 30?? read more

We went there with a bag of clothes to give away all good quality and we made sure it looked like the other trash things they sell, they said " yeah it will be a thirty minute wait" so we left the story for about five minutes and returned for them to say "it will be a hour and thirty minutes wait" we left already mad and then we went to marshalls and target. When we got back there we only had ten minutes left so we just walked around the trash hole store, the lady's finally took out our bag after this long and took 4 items and gave us $7.50, we left the shop steaming mad and gave the rest to goodwill. I don't recommend this place because people who came in after us sold all their stuff and left before us, even with the extra time added we stayed their waiting for more than two, if I could rate in -20 stars I would! read more

Just know that the employees here are quite rude and short with you, and that you can get a better value for your clothes elsewhere. I don't recommend trying to resell your clothes at this location, if you have anything that is higher quality than forever 21, target, or American Eagle. They choose nothing but cheap items and then tell you some of your items are just "not what they're looking for" instead of giving customers nice quality items to resell to them for people who cannot always forward higher name brands. They will choose a ratty shirt from Forever 21 then a nice polished shirt that would elevate someone's wardrobe from Nordstroms or Express. I've gone to many Plato's closets because well I'm a broke college student trying to make some extra cash on the side and this one by far has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. If you wanna go to one I recommend the one on Abrams they're so much nicer and friendlier. The associates here do not care about you what so ever. One time I came in and the employee told me that if I waited in store my wait time would be shorter and so I did, she said it would take about 20 mins. So I waited and waited and what ended up happening was I waited about 1 hr and no one told me my buy was ready. They just let me sit there for an extra 40 mins because no one called my named and I even walked up and asked them how much longer it would take they told me "oh yours is next..." like they were just trying to get me to not bother them. Now again if you're looking for a nicer environment go to the one on Abrams or even the Plano location. I do not hate Plato's Closet I just don't like this one. read more

Brought some clothes here other the day, majority of the items were still new and hardly worn. Even brought some brand new Doc Martens. They did not accept one item. I believe they didn't even looked through the bags. Was disappointed and I seen clothes not in good condition for sale in that store. Don't expect for your clothing to be taken here. read more

I went in today to sell several dresses and shoes. This was my first and last time to ever come in. I had some casual dresses and cocktails dresses. Most of the dresses were worn 2 times and several with band new tags. The black boots and booties that I had, had only been worn once. Everything I was ready to sell was in excellent condition. When I went to check out, a very kind young girl stated that my clothes were too formal and that they only accept shoes up to size 10. I was disappointed. They continued to tell me they accept casual clothes. I get the 'casual' talk. People want hip causal semi-descent clothing. Well-labeled, well-branded clothing is not a thing at this place. There are least 3-4 dresses came from Nordstroms. How can the store say the accept all sizes but not accept over a size 10 shoe for women. There are women in the world who wears over at ten?I felt that was contradictory from what they advertised. If you want causal overly worn clothing that is considered hip, this store is for you! Goodwill and Salvation Army you can have my treasures!!! read more

If I could put a negative star I would! I think this store wants everything brand new! I mean it is a consignment store! Another lady was there complaining as I was getting my stuff. I didn't complain I just took my stuff and left. She was right though, because they didn't accept a lot of her stuff, but her jeans, the jeans they have are used used. They looked worse than that lady jeans. They said they didn't take them because of a string from the bottom. Like wow! The ones they have on the racks are bad. Have to leave a review bc I was treated exactly like another customer on here. Funny thing is I have colorful hair as well!! I walked in and actually I greeted the staff ( I work in retail it's a habit) and proceeded to look through the clothes. I was immediately flagged (I could tell) and they sent over an older lady (Hispanic-- this is important). I felt her eyes on me and decided to ask her if she worked here.. bc she was too close to me for comfort I did so in Spanish she answered in Spanish that she did and I blank point asked her if her manager had sent her to watch me. She said yes and apologized I assured her I would be paying for anything I chose and asked if it was bc of my purse (I was carrying a medium sized Kate spade purse) she said no and quickly walked away. I did shop and found good items but definitely felt watched the entire time. Not a great practice just FYI to management.. maybe if y'all spent less time chatting behind the counter/registers you wouldn't be a targeted by actual shoplifters. And you can then ease up a little on "watching" actual customers.. I actually needed help not to be followed around. read more

I took my cousin to this store, which was the first time either one of us had been there and at first it was pleasant but before we left not so much. I looked around for skirts for my wife because that's all she wears because we can't find skirts anyplace else that aren't outrageously priced and I found 2 and paid for them. After that purchase my cousin found a another skirt for my wife so I stood in line. When it was my turn at the register the girl tells me that the register I was at was a buy in register to go to the next register which was fine until she walked away and started talking with 4 other employees who were standing around talking and not doing anything else. I waited a few minutes and since no one else wanted to cash me out, I left. I do not recommend going to this location. read more

This store is my number one spot for clothing. It is so close to my house and I love going there on their frequent sales days to snag a great deal. The clothes are really high quality and I can see how a teenager would love anything that comes from this store. They have trendy brands and most of the clothes are under 15 dollars so they are very affordable. I also sold some items here and they are very accommodating when it comes to making sure that you get the best deal for your clothing. I recommend this store to any person interested in clothing. read more

I have been to platos so many times I always spend over 100 dollars so does my mom and sister and they are so rude to us. Staff is so stuck up and rude never greet us or ask if we need help. I live close by in mesquite but 10 times would ratgo to the one in Richardson they are super sweet and always have a smile. Seriously the girls in platos in mesquite need to get educated on what customer service is. They are specially so mean when it comes down to moms with there kids they roll there eyes and make faces like bitch that's why your ass is pregnant I hope no one makes faces to your ass when your kid gets fussy and crys. read more

I brought in a lot to drop off. 10 minutes later I get a message saying that my order is ready and I can come back. They haven't even looked through my clothes and just told me nothing would sell. The bag was in the same order of things I had left it when I Came in. I don't understand where all the negative reviews are coming from...this store is by FAR the best Plato's in the DFW area!! The store is so clean and their selection is awesome! The staff is always so nice when i bring my clothes in. Even though they don't always take everything, the offer is reasonable for taking away the stress of having to sell it on my own. I came to Plato's Closet to sell one of my old dance dresses. It's covered in glitter so I put it in a trash bag so that I wouldn't have sparkles all over my car. When I got up to sell it, I was helped quickly but immediately told that they don't take trash bags before I could even explain what I had. I come to find out that they only take casual items and not semi-formal clothes. So, if you're reading this and considering taking old dance dresses or semi-formal stuff, don't. I think Platos Closet could however make more money if they did accept these because people might come in looking for discounted dresses. Overall, pretty neatly organized and I was quickly helped but just disappointed in the jumping of conclusions and clothing acceptance. read more

Have been to a few locations and have loved it. I was excited when they moved here but it shows. Before they opened went to try to sell clothes and it was all American eagle and holister but they were so choosy. Well went in today trying to find jeans and nothing.but when I saw some shoes hanging on rack they looked like they were covered in poop showed to employee there and she just laughed. It's a mesquite garage sell the mesquite location proves they are in a poor community and it shows very little high end lots of thrash. So disappointed in this location. I am so done with this place. There's nothing more annoying then walking around in a store that has stains on their clothes, and older labels, and they aren't going to take your free people shirt?? 1. I took a pair of nice Nike free runs that I barely have worn, and she's going to offer $7 for them when I see a pair on the shelf for $30. $7?! I can't buy a subways sandwich with $7. I understand inventory needs and having to make a profit, but dang. 2. I had to let a girl borrow a bag I had to sell her clothes because they don't accept garbage bags. Like it makes any difference at all. 3. What REALLY and I mean REALLY irritated me, was the fact that I stood right by the counter looking like a dumb a$$ for a solid 30 minutes. She told me it would take about 30 minutes, so after an hour I finally asked if mine was done. She said yes and I said has it been done a while and she said yes and I said why didn't you call my name? And she said we generally don't call names so people can shop around. TF?? Shop around?? Decent service, fair prices. When I dropped my stuff off to sell I thought I'd be told when my stuff was ready but the woman who took my stuff didn't notify me so I was just standing around for who knows how long. I was a little annoyed by this since the Abrams location called me over as soon as they were done. Other than that it was an okay experience, I brought the stuff that the Abrams store didn't want and this store took half of that and gave me $14 for it which brings my total earnings from Plato's closet to about $42, not bad for clothes that I was going to just give away anyways... The stores inventory was a little bit better than the Abrams location, I wear a small or XS and they had a broader selection but I still don't know if I can bring myself to buy used clothes.... Also, they really need more guys stuff, I think females are the primary "sellers" at these places and they seem to want a bigger mens selection. I had a lot of nice dress shirts from Express but they weren't really looking for formal clothes they took all of my casual stuff though, polos and short sleeves shirts... read more

I had been to the store maybe twice. I found out I could sell my clothes. I thought that was pretty exciting! Months later I cleaned out my closed and found a lot of branded jeans that no longer fit me. I remembered platos closet bought clothes! So I figured " why not call and ask what I need in order to sell them my clothing" first of all you can't take your clothes in a plastic bag. Uh ookay weird. Next I ended up taking about 10 pairs of jeans. When I checked in the teenage girl who spoke to me regarding what they looked for in clothes talked SUPER FAST and never looked me in the eye. I had no idea what she said if I have to be honest. It took them about 45 minutes to be done. She told me none of my jeans were accepted because they had a couple of stains AND because some of my jeans were flare leg " and they are no longer in style" according to them. Then she said but you definetly have the brands we look for so if you have anymore Hollister jeans bring them over. she took my basket of jeans and did not even bother to hand it over to me she left it on the floor and I had to get it my self. WORST SERVICE EVER. Don't waste your time with these people. read more

So I bout more than $50 worth of stuff today and I payed with a 100 dollar bill. You'd think they would have change, right? No. The cashier was nice and trying to get the other girls' attention to ask for change and they literally ignored her for a good 3/4 minutes with a line of people behind me. And only that register was open. So after a few minutes of waiting, a girl (presumably a wanna-be manager) comes to help her and the cashier proceeds to tell her she needs change, she has no 20's, only a single $10, 5's and 1's. The wanna-be manager girl doesn't even look at me and tells her, "just give her the 10 and the rest in 5's and 1's. Now I'm not trying to be bitchy but giving me more than $40 of change in small bills is unacceptable. Seriously, the wanna-be manager could've opened one of the unused registers and gotten some change but no, obviously she has no idea what customer service is. read more

My first experience with platos closet was horrible. It's the Worst place to sell your clothes. They have horrible costumer service. I went in with 2 huge bags of perfectly good and trendy Guess, American Eagle, Banana Republic, and Express clothes (jeans, shirts, shorts, dresses) some where brand new with tags still attached. The first thing they said to me was that they could not accept my clothes because it was in bags, so i had to go buy some bins at the nearest store. They then told me it would take about 45 min to and hour to check my clothes after waiting for a long time, and going through the struggle of buying bins to fit the clothes, they told me they could only accept ONE pair of jeans. They gave me a stupid reason for not accepting my other clothes when I know they are perfectly fine and can get a lot of money for them. Never going back there again. I do not recommend it. read more
