I totally don't recommend coming here the employees at the counter are terrible at communication with the fitting rooms. There were multiple people bringing 10+ items into the fitting room which was holding up a very long time. They were just very rude overall especially asking for help. Another customer left a wallet in the fitting rooms and didn't help the customer find it. They also have lost WiFi when I was there and only excepted cash too. Overall a mess!! I don't recommend selling to Plato's franchise because they scam hella money from customers and over charge all their athletic clothing!! read more

I would give this place a 2.5 star. Tried my luck at selling some clothes of mine. I hadn't sold to a Plato's Closet in a long time but in the past at other locations I have done okay with getting money for my clothes. The store is small but there was a good amount of customers looking through the racks. The store did smell like a Salvation Army - just that old clothes kind of smell. The worker helped me right away and had me fill out a form and I showed my ID. I noticed that they will take student ID but it isn't their preferred method of ID. It was easy to drop off my clothes and I was quoted 15 minutes for my clothes to be assessed. I left the store and came back an hour later. I did receive a text message from the store about 10 minutes later. It said my clothes were looked at and come back before the end of the business day. When I came back to the store it was not as organized as when I dropped off my clothes. There were three workers and two were on the register. The one was behind the counter but hanging clothes and in her own world. I did not know if I should stand where I dropped my clothes off or get in line for the register. Poor signage. Eventually, one of cash register workers noticed me and told me to come to the register. She then was confused on where my clothes went and said she just got to work. I saw where my clothes were and pointed them out to her. She gave me a nice let down speech of how my clothes were not "in-style" and said they were not able to offer me anything. I was a bit surprised as I had two garbage bags worth of all types of clothing that were name brand. She then asked if I wanted a sheet of the type of items they want for both male and female. I took one for the purposes of Yelping it and sheer curiosity. The clothes are what high school/Gen Z kids are wearing like crop tops and mom jeans - not my taste, so I guess that's why they wouldn't take my clothes. Solid resale shop to buy some clothes. Awful shop to sell your clothes. I stopped in on a slow Saturday afternoon. I was kindly greeted by an employee who took time to ask if I'd been there before and if I knew the drill (I did.) I was trying to sell some t-shirts, workout attire, and summer dresses. All of which was on their list of items needed. I figured I'd at least get $25 to $30 for my items. I spent some time browsing the store and I noticed they had quite a few items I was interested in purchasing. They also stocked items I was selling that day as well. I figured lucky was on my side! There was a romper that I loved which was $12. Not even 5 minutes later and I was called back to the front of the store to go over what I was selling. The same employee I was speaking with previously told me I was only getting $19 back. That's not bad since it was extra money in my pocket but it was also discouraging. They took over half of my items and that's all I got for it. They threw all my clothes back in my box and didn't even say thank you or anything kind on my way out. read more

As far as PC's, this one is just okay. Their designer clothes aren't as good as you would expect from RH (wealthy people and loads of outlet malls). The clothes are a bit over-priced for what they are. PC always under-cuts you if you try to sell, and they are very particular about the tote you bring them in. As far as consignment shops go, there are better in RH, but this one caters to teens/tweens/college kids better than most. read more

I love going to Plato's closet but it depends on your luck because sometimes you'll find stuff you love and a lot of things and sometimes you'll find nothing, half the time when you find things you like they don't fit properly, and they say they thoroughly check things but I have gone multiple times and I always find things that have holes in them, stained, ripped, and more. But they are good at getting cool things in variety of styles, it's just you have to remember not everything is going to be in your style. read more

If you're planning to sell items, don't even bother coming in. I do a closet purge every season for the current season. This location is conveniently next to Trader Joe's, so I often drop things off and go grocery shopping during the wait time. I've been in multiple times and have yet to have had anything bought (including brand names). The teeny boppers that work there also have snooty attitudes which are also off-putting. I give up on this location and will just start donating my purge items to Goodwill where they will at least go to a good cause. read more

I recently took some old clothes & shoes here that I wanted to get rid of, they completely remodeled the place as to a few years ago which was the last time I went to this location. I always take my old clothes to Platos closet instead of the Salvation Army or just throwing them away, I'd rather be paid something for them as opposed to nothing, even though you're getting very small amounts for what you give them. It does have an old clothes/Salvation Army scent to it but it is a bunch of old clothes they're selling. They took everything I gave them, I stopped going to this location before because they were pretty selective about what they would take here, the Madison heights or other locations always took everything of mine when I went to them so I hadn't been to this location in a while. I wouldn't personally shop here, not really anything I would buy - especially for men but it appears to be a good store for some people. I love the concept of thrifting so I always go to resell shops and thrift shops, and this is defiantly the best place for that type of stuff. Compared to the one in Utica and clothes mentor this is the best place to sell clothes between them. They don't give you a lot but it is better than nothing. I always bring semi decent stuff here that I wouldn't mind donating but I wouldn't bother to sell online. The place defiantly could use some remodeling and a clean out because they have a lottttt of out of style stuff and clutter. If they made it a little more comforting and clean in there I feel a lot of people would go there more. Overall this place is the best for second hand shopping. This Plato's is by far the stingiest Plato's I've ever been to. They act as if it's not second hand fashion. My girlfriends and I have tried a countless amount of times to sell them our clothes just for them to be given back to us by girls wearing leggings and crop tops...like that's trendy. If your items aren't micro trends, they won't take them. I just went to sell today and was waiting for my basket to be sorted through. As the girl was sorting through it, she made comments about every item. Namely, she said "literally no one would ever buy this" then laughed, "this stuff is so ugly" and laughed again as she did not realize it was a basket of my clothes. Although I will be the first to admit, some of my stuff was very ugly and worn, there was ZERO reason for her to speak her thoughts like that, especially with myself and other customers around. Very unprofessional and embarrassing. Also, as I walked through the store, they had the actual ugliest, most dated shein pieces I've ever seen so don't come here with neutrals or more timeless pieces. As a 21 year old sorority girl who has a love for fashion, I know what a cute piece is, these high schoolers they employ do not. So formally I would like to thank the girl with the knee brace and her black haired friend with the acne for making me unbelievably uncomfortable and upset with their rude remarks, attitude, and foul outfits they had on. Try the Plato's in Utica on hall rd instead....much better employees who are polite and kind. read more

Poor service, mediocre clothes, crappy buy experience. Thats what you can except to deal with here. I prefer the one in Madison Heights, as the staff is usually more friendly and attentive. The kids that work here are just that, kids. You can tell they don't really care much for the job or the customers, unless its someone they know. I didn't have a lot of trouble getting a fitting room, but thats because the girl said "I think that ones open go ahead" The selection here makes any other Plato's look classy. Levi relaxed fit jeans that my dad would wear? Yep. Shirts missing buttons? Yeah, got those. Horribly shrunken clothing that shouldn't have made it in the door? Uh huh. The clothes here seem to mostly be for the style I grew out of, lots of Hollister/Abercrombie/Ed Hardy/etc. Once and a while you'll find something decent, but its about as reliable as the Salvation Army is for clothes. I did bring in some clothes to sell to them, seeing if they'd be any better than the other locations. They bought a pair of shoes, a hoodie and a pair of jeans. He said "Theres staining and excessive wear" and I damn near punched in the face, dragged him to their own racks and said "THAT is excessive wear. My shit looks pristine in comparison." Don't bother, unless you have kids that want that tween style and you want to save a few bucks. The stuff at this location is utter crap. read more

I am SO done with this place. I have given them so many chances, and I will never be returning again. Let's start with today. I walked in with a bag full of name brands: American Eagle, 7 jeans, H81, Abercrombie, Hollister, etc. The three high school/college freshman employees sat there for a minute staring at me before one decided to jump up and help me. As she was taking down my information for selling, I could see behind her that another girl took my bag and was taking my articles of clothing out by the pile, and slamming it on the counter as if my things were not good enough and I was wasting her time. Slamming them on the counter was about all she did, she didn't even unfold and look at anything. She didn't accept anything I had. This happens every time...they never take anything. This same girl decided to start watching videos on her phone, and completely ignored another customer that asked TWICE for a fitting room. And when she finally acknowledged the customer, she made her wait until the video was over. Are you kidding me?! Another thing is that this location keeps buying more and more wholesale things and selling them. I asked if they had more wallets, and the girl dumped a bunch on the counter from a bucket...all that were exactly the same and cheap quality. I'm sorry...is this a resale shop or a cheap 'made in china' wholesale store? They also have wholesale leggings, jewelry, sunglasses, and makeup. I'm between 3 and 4 stars..perhaps I can come back and update my review after more experience but here are my thoughts so far: It's a great place for buying but the worst place for selling. They carry shoe sizes other locations don't like 5 or 11 in women's. Their athletic and VSpink racks feature clothing in very good condition (unlike other places with utterly piled and washed out yoga pants). You will find more current items here, in larger percentage of actually good brands (free people, blank nyc, aritzia) versus wet seal and f21 which other platos' are swimming in. When buying, they're paying much less than others. $2 for a pair of brand new heels with a $36 tag on them, $25 for an original, current coach purse. Service is very polite and eloquent, I cannot say a bad word about these girls. Overall, It is one of the best resale locations, and I will be scouting it for future purchases and input read more

I usually love going to this location. They have brands and a great variation of clothing and shoes that I love. I go in to look for a specific thing and Plato's usually has it! The people that work there are usually very nice, friendly and happy people. Today, however, I went in to look for some jeans and new shirts. I had grabbed a decent amount of clothing so they allowed me to take 6 articles of clothing into the room at a time. That's totally fine and expected! I tried them all on and decided on one. Here's the unfortunate part: once I was done I was asked by an employee if I knew where the last "missing piece of clothing" was. According to the girl, she recounted all the clothes and something was missing. I said no because A. I don't steal and B. I brought everything out as they had asked. She must have accidentally miscounted. The girl still felt the need to take another long look in the changing room and keep the clothing that I had tried on on lockdown until further review (cameras maybe?). I understand theft happens and I totally understand that she was just doing her job but there are ways of accomplishing this without making a loyal customer feel uncomfortable. Yikes. Definitely not my favorite Plato's Closet location. I'm not sure if it's just the area or what but their prices are significantly higher than other Plato's Closet stores. I was really turned off by their selection of Lululemon, with most pants ranging between $55-$65 dollars. Recently they had a Lululemon backpack priced somewhat reasonable (around $35) but then I noticed it had multiple broken zippers, stained insides, and ripped mesh pockets. Really?! If you're just looking for basic v-necks or maybe a pair of jeans you might have some luck but there really isn't anything special about this store. I rather go to a thrift store for a few hours, find the same items, and pay less than half the price. read more

This location is amazing! I've been going to Plato's Closets for almost 10 years, lots of different locations. I walked into this location to buy some new clothes for summer, as mine didn't fit anymore due to a 10 pound weight gain that I finally gave into. I was expecting to be ignored since I'm in my late 20's and not very updated on styles. I was SO wrong! These girls were easily 10 years younger than me, and the vibe they put out was immaculate! After almost 20 years of body image issues... I can honestly say this experience changed my life. The amount of support, compliments, gentle honesty, and down to earth personality at this location is overwhelming. I overheard conversations of what I thought were best friends, turns out they had just met and one of them was an associate. The honesty of hearing "The top doesn't really do you many favors, but the other one made you look so hot!" was so uplifting and made me feel so comfortable. I felt they actually cared about styling customers and making everyone walk out with more confidence than they walked in there with. I cannot stress enough how much this gave my self-loathing a complete 180. I even went home to immediately try on all my clothes to bring in anything I didn't feel amazing in to bring back to sell! I stopped looking at the "goal dress" and started filling my closet with clothes that make me feel beautiful NOW because of this location. This was my first and last visit here. It's a nice concept but trying on clothes and checking out is a lengthy process!! They had lots of associates working but they seemed young and not super organized. My daughter was first in line to try on clothes and another associate let another customer step up and take our place in line , she didn't know we were waiting first, but she should have known ! We waited at least 25 minutes for a room and it turned out there was an empty room there the entire time!!! Seriously!! This is simple stuff to manage! Also, even though there were many employees, checking out was another lengthy process! The staff should prioritize serving customers over other tasks like socializing or eating dinner at the register. Most people don't have hours of time to purchase a few items. i came into this location earlier today to buy & sell some items. i brought in around 20 items (nike, adidas, lululemon, urban outfitters, kate spade, etc) & they only took 8 items (which is understandable considering the reviews this store has). while my clothes were being sifted through, i was shopping & i overheard the employees judging the items i brought in. "why the f*** would we buy this" (as the employee is holding up my top) & "this girls style is something else". i felt judged walking into the store (the employees looking me up & down with a face of disgust) so i already knew this was going to be a bad experience. it's not that hard to be a nice human being. i brought my items in a nice plastic bin, folded & clean, & left with my items thrown in & not folded. the girls at the counter were rude to not only me, but i watched them judge other girls shopping. this is a terrible store & the owner should 100% think twice before hiring these girls. read more

I stopped in here to take a look and see what they have to offer - looking at the shoes they have, I am surprised the took them and paid someone for them - they mostly all so signs of lots of wear. Moving on to the clothing, very limited selection in the mens section. The women's section if you are a small or extra small... you might find something. But Medium - XL there is very little to choose from. I picked out a few items - some were a little more worn than I'd expect for this type of store (where they pay for the goods)... but most were in decent condition, or still had the tags. After buying a few items... I thought why not go home and pick out a few things to sell... let's just say they are really picky - and clearly gear their marketing / sales to tweens/teens... makes sense considering the University is so close. I took in a pile of ladies shirts including hoodies etc. All were cute, most were recent in the last few years, some even had tags on them still... but they were denied. (I doubt they even searched the entire lot). I'm guessing they didn't recognize any of the brands as many of my recent purchases have been from Canadian stores. I returned again with a pile of mens clothing... mostly Bananna republic. Some jeans, many button down shirts - which most guys where casually or for dress up... the girls looked at 2 or 3 shirts, then said they were 'too professional'. I'm new to the concept of selling your used clothes... think I'll stick to donating. May hike down to a few other platos closets - just to see if different ones target different genres. read more

Perhaps it is because I am a mom and took my teen daughter in to sell her LuLuLemon and other nice things, I was shocked at how little they paid and the condition of the items they had for sale. Needless to say, we declined the offer and they were shocked. We also did not find anything worth buying. I don't think we will go back. But, my daughter is less "demanding." So who knows. read more

The girls that work at the one in Rochester have no idea what fashion is, I brought in about 7 pairs of premium denim with tags still on such as AG, Hudson, and citizens of humanity and none of them were "high end enough". Also brought in other clothing from stores like bcbg, nordstroms and Aritzia, (cute things that I get complimented on daily) nothing was up to par apparently because it wasn't from Abercrombie and Fitch or Forever 21. I wouldn't recommend going here, while looking through the clothes I noticed small holes and stains on countless articles of clothing and it's a bit messy. I have been coming to this Plato's for 4+years and have always had a great experience however today I had such an unpleasant experience with the manager working 11/30 at 1230pm. She was unpleasant, curt and rude from the moment I walked in - she was not friendly or helpful in anyway. She then proceeded to check me out without allowing me to log in and use a coupon I had and told me shoes were final sale and she couldn't apply it as she has already checked me out. If she had taken the time to interact with me in anyway or asked if i was part of the loyalty program this could have been avoided. Unfortunately you have lost a previously loyal customer. Been to this platos closet a couple times, there is horrible organizing and management. Would love to take this platos closet over, and really show them how to run it. Bought a pair of "Tory Burch Reva Flats" for $50 dollars, went home and went on the computer and found out they were FAKE! They totally ripped me off, so i went back to the store to return them, and the owner would only let me "sell them back to her" for a whopping $10 bucks. NOTHING LIKE FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. ALSO!!! I bought a betsey johnson bracelet and they put the price tag over the missing rhinestones on the bracelet!! THE WORST PART OF THIS PLATOS EXPERIENCE IS, IVE KNOWN THE OWNER FOR 25 YEARS AND YOU WOULD THINK SHE COULD AT LEAST CUT ME SOME SLACK WITH THE FAKE SHOES!
