I was in the area I needed a bathing suit, I always like checking secondhand prior because there's so much good stuff out there!! This Plato's it was very well stocked in almost every category (shoes, swimsuits, tops, workout etc). I only went in for a bathing suit but ended up getting some other cute items. The staff was extremely friendly. Shoutout the homie in the sublime shirt who maybe works at the record shop too- he made a personal connection with almost everyone during check out.. In the dressing rooms, there was a sign if you took a picture in your outfit and post it to Instagram and tag them you could also get 10% off your purchase. Dropped off 5 bags of clothes, a lot very nice and lightly used. All we're recently washed. Due to them not being folded was told they went through all 5 bags but could not take any because they were not folded, but I could leave and come back another time with them. If I would have known I would have folded them when I dropped them off 2 hours prior. Not very helpful. read more

The girl at the counter was very attentive, assured me and another customer we could leave our other items at the counter so we didn't have to carry them around while we shopped, very upbeat and seemed to really love her job, helped me pick out an awesome Jean jacket! I found it initially irritating that they are bagless, but honestly, it's better for the environment anyway and I had a reusable bag waiting for me anyway. I went into this location a few weeks ago while visiting the area to sell a few things. While signing in I accidentally left my phone on the counter and walked out without it as I went to wait in the nail salon nearby. I realized I didn't have my phone and returned to Plato's where a blonde manager returned my phone to me after explaining that I accidentally left it on their counter. I still had some more waiting to do, so I browsed the store and had some lovely interactions with the staff. Those teenagers have their customer service figured out. They even laughed at my shitty jokes and let me use some of their limited counter space so I could study a sweater in order to DIY my own version back at home. If you want to have the best second hand shopping experience with well-organized racks full of stylish clothes, DO NOT HESITATE to come here and drop some dollars. read more

Honestly, this is the WORST platos closet I have ever been to. It took them about 5-7 minutes to even acknowledge the fact that i was standing at the counter waiting for them to check me in, the girl who helped me was rude & then after about 15-20 minutes they were done looking through my clothes & out of 20 items which were all fairly new and worn about one or two times, they took 3 items and only gave me $5 HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE? I received a text message that said 50% off store items. this is the second time I fell for that you go into the store and there's nothing in there that's on sale except for sweaters and we're in South Florida its 180 degrees outside but you don't realize that until you get to the register and ever and you out you have people standing behind you and you're too embarrassed to tell them to put their nasty used clothes where the sun doesn't shine. read more

One of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I'm a retail store manager so I look out for this stuff and I couldn't believe the two girls at the counter, one wad blonde and the other was a brunette, were talking about a customer that came in and was having issues.. while I was there I noticed that the blonde girl was very controlling and had to say something for anything and needed to have an input. Very disappointed in my experience selling to this store. I brought in a very large assortment of both gently used clothes and MANY items that still had tags (Hollister, Nike, Victoria Secret, etc.). After dropping off the clothes I walked to my car and within 30 seconds they called and said my things were ready to be picked up. When I came back in I was told they would not be purchasing any of the items because of their "condition". I was confused because most of the items still had tags and the other items were in like-new condition. I also noticed that everything was still folded and in exactly the same spot as when I had dropped off. Clearly the employee hadn't even looked through the items before calling me. Would give zero stars if I could. "Manager" extremely rude, degrading, hostile, not accommodating to customers. The blonde "manager" was in a bad mood because they were busy with people wanting to sell and buy...that's the business right? If you don't want to do your job then quit. She kept yelling at me when I said what's the point of me dropping off one bag to pick up tomorrow when I could drop it all and just wait for a call when it's ready with zero rush from me. She stomped off and yelled that she's done speaking to me about this and hid in her office leaving the two girls there to deal with everyone and all of the clothes she was "overwhelmed with" weren't being processed. Before she stomped off she gave me the phone number of Sean, the owner, he was nasty and degrading as well but very impressed with himself. Spoke completely different "policies" than his miserable, angry, hates her life "manager". When I explained that their policies were conflicting and all I wanted to do was drop off the clothes and come back any time they are ready, including over the next couple days as this is a 40 minute drive for me; he started preaching about how he needs to make things "equitable" then asked me what my job is "because maybe that's why I don't understand their situation". My job doesn't matter and is none of Sean's business and he should be more concerned that I am a customer and this is the experience/treatment I received. Sean got even more sassy and rude after that so I knew he wouldn't be accommodating, he instead proceeded to talk down to me and lecture me about his "business" until we ended the call. The two other girls working in the store were friendly and both looked at me like they were unsure why the "manager" behaved the way she did. But judging by how the owner spoke to me on the phone, they clearly don't value their customers or their experience. He also started lying about how the clothes should arrive because he thought he caught me on something then backtracked when I explained everything is washed/folded/in clean reusable bags like most i saw behind the counter; even though there were also boxes and cartons there which he claims are not allowed. But for some reason they needed to send a customer away who had no time constraints and was trying to find a compromise to make things easier on the stressed out manager while not completely having my day wasted. The owner told me to go sell at the Bradenton store so I'd assume he'd like more of his customers to also sell/shop at the Bradenton store. As I walked out a customer told me she's experienced the same type of attitude before and that it's like dealing with an annoyed child when you drop off your clothes to sell and be processed (which is their main job); she also told me that they lowball their payments so if you sell here ask for a spreadsheet or breakdown of what you're getting for each item. But like the catty owner said, YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO BRADENTON. That would make things more "equitable", right, Sean? Don't give your business nor your money to a garbage person like Sean; he apparently (as he said on the phone to me) doesn't need it. read more

The whole experience was terrible. From the moment I walked in and the "buyer" snapped at the girl saying "you know I'm leaving after this right?" With no smile no greeting and no respect for the process of buying or trading. I worked in the fashion business for 13 years in women's contemporary and I have sold thousands to consignment stores. This was the worst experience I have ever had and I actually wanted to take my things back and say I'd rather throw them away then have her take them but it was already done and I didn't feel like making a scene. This store is amazing. I have been to platos closets from California to Maine to North Carolina to Texas to several in Florida. This is probably the best one that we have ever been to. Amanda runs the place with professionalism and is dream to work with. The quality of clothing and a selection is awesome for boys and girls. Lots and lots of clothes still has the original tags on them. Worth the trip and an hour drive! Saved hundreds. Skip St Armands Circle and just go straight there. read more

They took 45+ minutes to go through my 2 VS size bags and only ended accepting 10 items, most of the items I had we close to brand new and expensive clothes. All of the dresses I had in my bag were over 40 a piece and some of there we only worn once or never even worn. My husband had donated a pair of expensive board shorts that you can only get from a concert and they hadn't realized that I had came back in the store to look around and wait for them to give me my total. While I was in there they had called me and my husband stupid and idiots for donating those short and that we "clearly are completely unaware about how expensive these shorts are and the fact that we are donating them just shows that we must be rich and have money to just throw around" I thought that the fact that they would talk about their customers like that is completely aggravating and distasteful. The establishment is run by 17 year old girls. When I went to sell my used clothing the girls were more worried about orderin pizza and driving daddies "whip" than helping me with my sale. Would not suggest this location. Maybe Fort Myers is your serious about coming. read more

Nobody , I mean nobody wants to deal with bad attitude teenagers!!! My sister reccomended I take all my sons outgrown clothes to "Plato's Closet", and I recently saw an advertising post on Facebook from PC stating they are in need of in good condition clothes in exchange for cash! I have yet to bring in the clothes that I intend on trading , when I do ....its with a great deal of hope that I am not greeted by , nor have to do buisness with anyone who is rude , unatentive , or impatient like the ones described in these prior reviews by customers who have been to this place of business!!! With that being said ......I hope to be able to report a follow up review about my positive well worth while visit , and exchange of clothing for cash pay out with the people that work at" Plato's Closet!" If any of the negativity in the revievers comments on Yelp are true.....I certainly hope the business owner of this store uses this feed back on this site as a tool for improving his or her operation!
