I give negative stars! Please, if you have any choice at all, do not come to this hospital. This has been the worst hospital experience I've ever had. My elderly mother only comes here because it's close to her house, but the lack of urgency and care from the doctors is unacceptable. They spend their time standing in the hallways laughing and talking while patients sit waiting for over an hour just to be seen for the first time. The facility is outdated, the communication is terrible, and they only allow one person to be with your loved one. If you truly care about your family member getting timely attention and proper care, go somewhere else. read more

I needed a revision to an ankle surgery. After finding an incredible podiatric surgeon it was decided that I go to her home hospital. Due to my many medical issues, she did not want this surgery performed in a satellite hospital. Staff were amazing. Caring. Monitored my pain management all weekend. Saturday night was very hard, the nurses were in constant communication with the physician's. They came up with a plan and it worked. Pain finally stabilized I was able to get some sleep. And left on Sunday. My hands go out to ALL the staff. The nurses, Dr's, PT/OT's, MA's, kitchen staff, how clean my room was kept. Every time my family has come here it's been a terrible experience. First time was over 10 years ago when my mom had my sister they treated her horribly nurses were down right RUDE! Little over a year ago my father went in for a nose bleed & when my dad mentioned he was uncomfortable with what they are doing the nurse YELLED at my dad and THREW his instruments on the little table. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL! Recently my grandmother went in and they were SO rough with her! My aunt & sister who were there are also in the medical field, they did NOT like the care the nurses were doing! When they spoke up the nurse walked away & SLAMMED the door! How is it that there are three different occasions throughout the YEARS and it's the same story... RUDE & UNPROFESSIONAL! I tell everyone I know NOT to come here it's worth the drive to go somewhere else! read more

I went to that hospital recently due to a stroke for all patients ... If you ask for something by ringing the nurse bell, it takes them approximately 45 minutes to a couple hours just to get you anything and this is not the daytime we're talking nighttime when everybody is sleeping. It was a nightmare for me because anything I asked for it took hours just to get They say they will get it for you and be right back. That was never true. If I could give "0" stars,...I would. This is the WORST EXCUSE for a hospital that I've seen in my 25 years of nursing. I would not return, and would not recommend the hospital and would highly suggest that anyone thinking of seeking any care from the hospital look elsewhere. Our mother was recently taken there by ambulance, and was misdiagnosed on multiple levels, provided inappropriate tests/inadequate care/poor quality of care, experienced poor medical decision making that contributed to worsening of her condition. The staff are inexperienced, and levels of care inconsistent, availability of services/treatments scarce. Physicians / Hospitalists are all contracted and none work for the hospital directly. Mom had surgery, and survived the surgery, but then due to poor decision making, poor care/lack of timely responses and availability of treatments, spent 38 days struggling to survive and was told by one Physician "she is not expected to survive this hospitalization". The level of care bordered on negligence, and we have filed formal complaints. There was NO Patient advocacy during her stay, and when we took our concerns to administration, we were met with resistance, excuses, an inability to provide reasonable answers, defensive actions, inconsistencies, poor communication, confusion, poor decision making and lack of timely response. All in all, our Mom was lucky to survive her hospitalization, is home and recovering, ....and had it not been for our persistence and demands for reasonable actions and timely responses, she would not be alive today. read more

The ED is full of idiots. They gave my teen Benadryl and released her. No diagnostic imaging. She was in extreme pain on her right abdomen and her back. She had blood clots in her urine. The nurse and PA are incompetent and rude, at best. Now we we going to another ED for kidney and gallbladder issues. This hospital is remiss in their care. They violate their Hippocratic Oath and are an embarrassment to modern medicine. read more

There are a lot of bad reviews for this ER and to be fair, I waited 3 hours before I saw an actual doctor. There were a lot of us in the waiting room. However, when dealing with the staff, I felt that they listened to me and that I received appropriate treatment for what I was visiting the ER for. The staff is overworked and yet treated everyone kindly and I appreciate that. They have been through a lot the past 2 years and it shows. Plus they are grossly understaffed, which I believe led to the long wait time. I appreciate the care I was given and want to tell the staff to keep up the good work. Be careful! This hospital only wants your money! They have multiple "pre-check ins" before your appointment and want you to pay upfront. Then when you check in for your actual appointment they make you pay even if it's not what you'll end up owing. They tried to charge me over double for a procedure because they said that's what my insurance was saying. read more

Took them to court and they knew they over charged me and we settled the bill that I should have to only paid $200. And now they're trying to garnish my check for the $8k. Arrived for my appointment early as requested to complete paperwork although I had already completed this online. My appointment was for 3:30pm. Finally at 3:55pm I was brought back to do basic weight, blood pressure, heart rate etc. I then waited 5 mins before stepping out of the room to ask for an update on what's happening. I was told the Doctor would be another 15 mins. Meaning I would not be seeing a doctor until 45mins after my scheduled time which is ridiculous. How can you present 30min time slots for appointments if you cannot stick to a schedule? Terrible customer experience. Will not be coming back & will not be recommending this place. read more

I had severe belly pains this morning and i was forced to go to the ER. I was in a room with in 15 minutes. They to xrays of my chest, then a C.T. scan within an hour and a half. Nope!!! Do yourself a favor and drive a bit further to get to Avista or St A's North. Spent 5 hours in a room, never once saw a dr. and the nurse stood in the doorway to talk to us, wouldn't even come all the way in. There was zero communication and clearly zero craps given. The staff was so kind to bring us a pull up and wipes so we could clean the patient up ourselves. Never have I been treated with less dignity and respect. I walked in the door and heart failure and one of the nurses told the doctor that I said I wanted to commit suicide which is a flat out, bald faced, lie. When I spoke up to say that I am not suicidal that if I was suicidal I would not be there I was spoken over, told to be quiet and just ignored. The doctors and nurses decided they had the power to put a hold on me and to make me stay there which I don't believe they had a right to, but they did it anyway with their line backer security, they did keep me there. For three days. Against my wishes. Refused me water or anything to drink. I had to beg for food which was thrown away if I dozed off for 5 minutes. I just got home today as I ended up leaving against doctors wishes, so I was given no medication for my heart or any follow up instructions so I did it all for nothing. I guess for a bunch of power tripped nurses to get their rocks off. This hospital is beyond evil and desperately needs to be investigated as soon as possible before they really do kill someone. I'm very surprised it wasn't me. No dignity or respect at all! My entire time here the door to my hospital room was left open, and there was a young girl left in my room to watch me go to the bathroom, watch me eat, watch me sleep, watch everything I did. This hospital does not believe in using the same needle to get blood out of you twice so every time they want blood they want to poke you again. I was poked 7 times for IVs and at least 15 times to draw blood. Both my arms are black and blue. I look like a damn pincushion. I could not sleep for 3 days straight as the party was apparently outside my room every night. And after getting poked all those times the only medication given to me thru my IV was lasix. I asked,for something for pain or to help,me sleep. I was naturally ignored. Same as when i asked for anything. Including food, drink, or water. I really hate writing a review like this on anyone, but especially a hospital. I am just stunned as to how I was treated. Don't get me wrong, there were a couple of very nice nurses and doctors on the day shift that made me think it would be ok. But nighttime came and it was all over but the crying. They turn evil. This is why I had to leave at midnight, with no ride, no offer to help me get a ride, no medicine, no prescriptions, no follow up,instructions, no instructions period. Not one single piece of paper from them. Nothing Never, ever have I been treated with less dignity and respect in my life! In closing, I'm sharing my experience because I don't feel those people should get away with what's been done to me and I really hope it's never allowed to happen to anyone else in the future. This hospital, which I worked at proudly for 5 years, is a complete and utter disgrace. The care and "expertise" is beyond pathetic. Specifically the emergency department. Whether it's blowing my mom's vein amd injecting saline into her arm, and when she says "oh my god, that burns so bad" (while already in excruciating pain) and the nurse ignores her and continues. When I say something she says, Well, I probably don't have to use the iv again anyway, if i do i will check it then. She was seen for her back, nothing could touch the pain they tried everything. When they tried valium she got some relief, so they immediately sent her home with.... not valium, literally the only thing that gave her relief. She could not walk, was almost incoherent with pain. They told her to go home and make an appointment with her doctor. She suffered at home for another day. We went to another hospital, they admitted her and did emergency surgery. I'll skip ahead to the most recent visit. She fell and hurt her shoulder, she can't lift her arm. The doctor didn't even look at or palpate her shoulder. They did x-rays, doctor said the x-rays didnt show anything, she can home and make an appointment with her doctor. She did, he had to order new x-rays because the ones platte took were "extremely inadequate", then he felt her shoulder and realized the bones are separated. She is now on her way to an emergency ortho. I can not express enough how angry, sad and disappointed I am. The patients deserve far better than this joke of a hospital. Save yourself time, money, and pain. Go to a different ER if you have any ability to do so. read more

Beautiful facility. Staff is very friendly. My only gripe is you have contact with soooo many people before your appt. 6 calls (yes 6) in one day to schedule, confirm, re confirm, reconfirm, preregistration, then automated call going over check in process again. OMG. When we get there you chat with main desk to obtain pager, then register , meet someone else and get taken to another room to complete more paperwork, then go to the correct department, check in there, then meet with the correct staff for procedure. I'm not loving this ER at all. We have been here for over an hour and they have yet to hook an IV for fluids on my husband. Even though the doctor ordered it and my husband is dehydrated. The nurse keeps insisting he urinates. How can he if he is dehydrated and you won't hook up the fluids? Back in January I had a mammogram to check the lump. I asked the radiology department what the whole cost would be in order to make the decision to have the test done or not. I spent hours on the phone between the radiology department at the hospital and my insurance company to make sure I had the complete amount for the testing. Now three months later in this disaster when most people don't even have jobs I get another bill in the mail from defied radiology of Colorado saying that I owe another extra $200 for the mammogram. My husband and I've been going to Platte Valley for over 3 years. Our primary has been Doctor Dinescu, who's been okay, but has missed a few serious issues. 2 years ago, he sent my husband home with no meds and dismissed his pain. We landed in the ER later that night where he had immediate, life saving surgery for an intestinal blockage. Even so, we've continued to see him. Nothing special, nothing terrible. This week, my husband is home for contact tracing for Covid. I started running a fever and started having symptoms 3 days ago. I've called the office and left messages multiple times over the past 3 days. Thus far, I've not gotten a return call or a real person on the phone after 10+ calls. read more

I had a skiing accident I couldn't walk on one of my legs. Decided to go to this ER hoping to get an MRI of my knee as I know something had been torn. First off I come in, I'm in Pain talking a little bit Louder because of the pain, but not arguing or making a scene the guy at the front desk says that " Mam stop yelling at me" I stated I'm not yelling I'm in pain And I apologized, continuing to cooperate w answering his questions. He says mam I told you to stop yelling and wheels me into another room and shuts the door- no explanation. Two staff members come in 15 minutes later and say they were told that I refused to give my vitals and my information to the front desk ? What? This was Not true ... seriously? Why would I come in for an injury and refuse to get my vitals done and not give my information to the staff? Long story short When I left I still couldn't walk & was in even more pain than when I came in. The doctor did not order an MRI and told me to follow up with the ortho specialist Monday I don't advise Coming here ( unless It is life-threatening & it's the closest hospital) lthey're just gonna waste your money and waste your time and tell you you are talking too loud and you are a threat for no reason- it's ridiculous I'm very disappointed & offended because of the way I was treated. so, a friend of mine and his passenger was taken by ambulance to this hospital as a result of an MVA. My friend states that both he and his passenger received a call from SCL Health giving them a heads up of their soon to be received bills/statements and that his bill is $25k, his passenger was told his bill was $23k ! ! They hadn't even mailed out a bill yet. While at the ER, my friend received a blood draw/ labs, received a CT of the abdomen, which all resulted as negative for any findings. They both were then discharged. I myself work in healthcare and have NEVER heard of a facility calling the patients just to give them a heads up prior to sending out a bill. The amounts they are being quoted for their limited services received is absolutely inflated. Crazy thing- these charges will be covered by auto insurance. My friend and his passenger both asked for itemized statements to be sent to them. Anyone else have any similar dealings? read more

Was told to come around 9AM to get my father-in-law discharged. Heard the doctor in the next room about that time, then nothing. Been an hour and a half and there are others also waiting on this guy so they can leave as well. Nurses have been great (4*), care has been good (3*), but this doctor's delay is going to cause problems at my work as well as other family members' day. (0 * if I could) [update] Doctor went off to do a procedure in another patient. Maybe lunch time? So much for taking care of the patients you already have. I recently had to have emergency surgery here. Merle had to leave for work before I knew that I was going to be having this emergency surgery. Talk about scary. But the doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, and everyone else I came in contact with went so above and beyond awesome they did more than just treat me medically they talked with me, handed me tissues to wipe my tears, held my hand, and told me everything would be okay and that they were going to take great care of me. And they did. Michelle the nurse who checked me in and stayed with me in the E.R. was one of the nicest most caring people I have ever met. When Merle had to leave she told me I still had her and that I wasn't alone. She also helped me call my bff and Merle to let them know they had to operate. She made the whole terrible experience so much smoother and a bit less scary. So thanks Michelle! This hospital is pretty new and is state of the art! It is also architecturally amazing! Even Merle commented on the tile and carpet how they handled the curves in the halls so beautifully. The rooms were comfortable and even the food was good. Normally it takes a long time to check in because of all the paperwork b.s. you have to fill out. Not here, they come to you with a computer on wheels and get all your info as your waiting in the E.R before the doctor checks in with you! It's awesome and convenient. If I ever have to stay in a hospital again I hope it's here as they people here are amazing and will do the vey best for their patients! read more

Apparently there doctors are CONTRACTORS in the ER, So not only will you be billed a ridiculous amount from the hospital but the physicians will also send you a ridiculous amount as a separate bill. One day I hope the government puts a hammer down on hospitals that do this. They take payment arrangements no problem. After a year I stopped receiving a bill so I thought I was done paying. Low and behold they claim they had never stopped sending them and sent me to collections. They have zero ways of showing me that they had sent me a more bills (a delivery confirmation would have been perfect) and claimed to have called. I've had to come here one too many times in the past few years. Most recently, I had to have my gall bladder removed here and was scared out of my mind - it was the first time I had ever had surgery that required being sedated. When I was in the ER, I felt that the staff was really concerned about me and did everything they could to make me feel comfortable and to understand what was causing me so much pain and discomfort. Surgery was scheduled and I remember being terrified and explaining to the anesthesiologist that I was freaking out. He took the time to talk to me for a few minutes and calm me down before he did his job. The surgery went well and my doctor checked on me numerous times afterwards. I was really impressed at the level of care I was given by the doctors and staff there. I am also really impressed at how small my scars are from the surgery! I had to come to the ER prior to this for something else and at that time felt that I was very well taken care of as well. This location is very clean, filled with knowledgeable staff who don't treat you like a number but like an actual person. The people that work here clearly love what they do and do a great job of taking care of their patients. I have heard a number of people complain about issues related to their billing department but I have personally never had a problem with that. read more

Well, if you have to go to an ER, this place is solid. My husband was "welcomed" to our new neighborhood by an agitated bulldog. I've never been to an ER before (other than working at a hospital for 5 years in my early career), so I don't have much comparison. The receptionist was friendly and directed me to my husband, as his friend had rushed him to the hospital. The room was comfortable, and had TV, so I got to watch SportsCenter while my husband bled, every woman's dream. The doctor and nurse were wonderful, absolutely wonderful. I wish I could remember their names, but forgive me for being too emotional. They explained everything to us, checked on us frequently, and did their best to make my husband comfortable. We always hear about the terrible stories about medical care, but for me, we had as good of an experience as you can at an ER. The staff were professional, compassionate, and caring. read more

Having worked with hospitals for years, I know that no matter what my experience was the next patient may find their experience just the opposite. It is rare that you are going there for 'fun', so emotions are high and folks are tense. That being said, I have been here several times as an outpatient. Every experience has been good. I do think that they need some help with their registration process, but I have never been in a hospital that doesn't. It is clean and bright and many physician offices are on site, so its quite convenient. read more

Our experience began on Mother's Day evening when my mother took a horrible fall - severely breaking her arm and banging up her face. The night in the ER was not the best experience, but in all fairness, no ER experience is great. We were there far too long for the situation at hand, but once they did admit my Mom for surgery, the next 6 days at Platte Valley were incredible. She was in surgery for several hours to repair the arm on Monday. She did not have a great reaction to the anesthesia and ended up in the ICU/Step Down unit for 24 hours and required a decent amount of care, fluids, blood, etc.... She was finally in a regular room on 3 West for the rest of her stay and every person that we came in contact with was fantastic - Nursing care was top notch, PT, Housekeeping, CNA, Food Services..... I can never thank them enough for how kind and caring they were with my Mother and with me and my sister. Very scary time for us all and I wouldn't want her with any other medical facility! We have even had our first in-home PT nurse evaluation and she was just as great as everyone in hospital. Platte Valley is a beautiful facility. Clean, well designed, quiet. From the front desk to the ER to the Chaplin -- can't rave enough! Keep up the good work!!!! read more

Alison Guest, M.D., cost this hospital a star, as every experience I've ever had here, went as well as could be expected, under the circumstances. I am a retired Operating Room Technician & Surgical First Assistant, and we in the medical field make for 'different' patients to deal with since we're familiar with the ropes. Unfortunately, I was leaving a hospital one night when I stopped at a convenience store and suddenly found myself being robbed & shot point~blank in the chest. That was a real game changer. The bullet remains lodged over my left lung in the mediastinum tissue, against my spinal cord. Gave me a nasty nerve disease, which at times, renders me in excruciating & indescribable agony, forcing me to visit the emergency room. This last visit changed my whole outlook on Platte Valley, due to this Dr. Alison Guest, who did nothing but count the ways that she could not help me. I made sure to bring my bottle of oxycodone, just so I wouldn't be labeled as a 'med seeker', as our Nation goes through its terrible 'opiate epidemic', despite the fact that they are patients who actually benefit from opioid treatment, but alas, Dr. Alison Guest didn't seem to give too much of a damn. I never asked for any pain medications, since I had driven there myself. But, she sure kept me feeling like I had. Finally, she told me that there was a new drug therapy that I might benefit from. When I prompted her for the name, she stammered, 'its called lidocaine...'. I reminded her that lidocaine had been around for awhile, having had been first synthesized in 1941, and subsequently being used on patients in '43. What she neglected to tell me in her unprovoked wrath, was that there was a new 'technique' being used w/lidocaine to treat chronic pain. I thought to myself, 'Jesus, it's one of THESE physicians here today... the kind that can't be pleased and would prefer taking their frustrations out on some innocent "chronic pain'er". I'm better off going to a different facility...'. When I told Dr. Guest that I wasn't going home like this, she put her hands on her hips, glaring at me, and hissed, 'Oh, YES YOU ARE!'. I told my nurse that I was open to anything at that point, so she started trying to start an IV. Key word, 'tried'. My arms are super~sensitive from the nerve damage caused by the bullet and if you're going to start an IV, you've got one shot, so to speak. When my nurse started digging the needle around in my left arms AC fossa, that was simply too much for me to tolerate and I pleaded for her to STOP. So, Dr. Guest comes back into the room and says, 'Okay, we tried to help you, but you told lthe nurse to remove the needle, so you're going to just be discharged for *refusing treatment*.'. Shaking from musculoskeletal misery crossed with neuropathic agony, warm tears rolling down my face, I just wanted the hell out of there, at that point. Summarily, I filed a complaint against Dr. Guest, with various members of Platte's administration. I received a call the next day, where it felt as if I was being chastised for even coming in, in the first place. What places like this must remember, is that YOU WORK FOR ME. Not the other way around. I did some research later, on the new lidocaine drip therapy for chronic pain, and the next time I'm forced to be in the confines of their ER, I'm asking for that, since it did indeed sound promising and it is non~narcotic, which will make doctors like Ms. Guest happy. I was particularly irate, because my own pain management doctor is the one who told me to go to the ER in the first place, while she countered that, '... this was no place to treat chronic pain...'. I'm sorry, Ms. Guest, but if your bones were so osteoporotic that they were basically melting away, ~you'd have come to the ER yourself. I am an extremely "hard stick" so I explained to the tech, named Savannah, exactly how to draw my blood. I could tell she was skeptical but she went ahead and did it the way I told her to. Not only was she surprised that she got the amount of blood she needed, I actually don't have any of my usual horrible after-draw bruising on my arm.
