Platt's has always been the best cash and carry seafood on the beach. Back "in the day" my parents were always in there. First, we'd go in there when we first arrived at the beach. You should have a peel and eat party one night and they had the best shrimp for that kind of thing. And we'd sometimes go back for bait. Might want to fish yourself at the cherry Grove Pier or off a dock in the marsh. Not exactly the eating kind of fishing but more "the fun fish" kind of bait. We always stopped on our way out of town for the take back home kind of fish. Fish that they would pack on ice in a styrofoam cooler and you'd stick in your freezer back home for that moment when your beach vacation seemed like it never happened and maybe you'd never see the ocean again. Pratt's is possibly the best kept secret in Cherry Grove. I shouldn't tell you that they have terrific fried seafood platters for takeout. I visited Platt's during my vacation at Myrtle beach and the sheer variety of fresh and frozen seafood was awesome. I ordered fresh medium shrimp peeled and deveined. Wow, where do I begin. 1. First, there is no system of taking customers orders at the fish counter. A ticket system with numbers would be nice to figure which customers came first. 2. Second, once I was allowed to order after the staff trying to figure out who was next, the employee was extremely rude. He was not very helpful, upset he had to cut the fish to my liking, and then left when I asked to examine the cut. 3. Third, the parking lot is tiny and very hard to park and leave. Not sure if that is their fault, but figured you should know. A business like this will need competition and hopefully they get better from it. This place has it all for your next seafood feast! The store is clean, well stocked and all employees and shoppers were wearing masks. This is very appreciated. The parking lot is large and beautifully paved, easy access location and clear signage makes it so easy to find. We purchased shrimp (awesome), clams (loved loved loved them) and scallops (not that flavorful when we grilled them). These are not bargain prices, but fair. Freshness is worth the price. I'd highly recommend stopping in for anything you might need from coolers to coolers, sauces to hush puppies. Lemons, lobsters, side dishes, cold beer, ice, hats and t-shirts, even hand sanitizer available for purchase!! No trip to the beach is complete without a trip to Platt's for fresh local seafood. This is an awesome fresh seafood market!! They even have packaged deal boil they cook, that includes, shrimp, crab legs, corn on cob, red potatoes, mussels, sausages. They put a seasoning on the boil for that is to die for! Did I mention everything is super dooper fresh!!!!!! They have any and everything you want fresh seafood! This place is super busy so you know that means it's awesome!! Friendly service! Offers helpful suggestions if you are undecided! Oh, the hush puppies are to die for too!! Make sure and get you a large o rider of those!! The prices are high but you get what you pay for. They have two different sizes for the boil regular or large. We recently ate here when visiting NMB. Platts is a full-service fish market which also serves fresh seafood, fries seafood to order, and has seafood for pickup. We ate lunch here one day and it was delicious. We all ordered various fry baskets (e.g., shrimp basket, oyster basket, and catfish basket). The baskets come with a generous amount of seafood, fries, and hush puppies. The baskets are made to order and super fresh. There is no seating inside but the gas station next door has some outdoor seating. What the seating lacked in ambiance the basket made up for in flavor. We went away satisfied and full. Later in the week we ordered a boil but subbed out the crabbed for all shrimp. The shrimp was butterflied, seasoned, and boiled along with kielbasa, corn, and potatoes. We also order hush puppies. It was a perfect way to feed a large crowd (for us a party of seven) and even better no dishes to clean up! Definitely make Platts a place to visit on your trip to NMB. read more

The people who work here are helpful and amazingly friendly, and not racist. I called them every morning to see if they had blue crabs delivered and ready for purchase. One day I bought an entire bushel of cooked crabs for only $180! That's a steallllllllllll compared to where I'm from. They have a key lime pie there that is to die for. They sell frozen hush puppies, and all kinds of complimentary food for you seafood bash. They even sell live bait and fishing gear too. They were fresh and well prepared by the time I arrived. Platts Seafood did an outstanding Low Country boil. Its not on any posted menu but they do a large and a small. $79.00 for small $154. For large. They said the small feeds 6 people. Its a lot of fantastic food. Call a couple hours before you need it. It is a ton of food and we did our best to eat it all. It has snow crab legs, peeled/deveined shrimp, little neck clams, keilbasa sausage, potatoes and half ears of corn. Its was all outstanding. The hushpuppies are crunchy and delicious and that Boom Boom shrimp was so good, we are going back for more tommorow. It was an easy and relatively inexpensive meal for the quality and portions. I am frying up the rest of the poatoes with some flour and corn meal for breakfast and adding the left over shrimp to my omlette. No point wasting all that deliciousness. read more

Have been here before but this is the first review. Platt's has an excellent selection of fresh/previously frozen seafood. For the most part service was okay, however, they have a couple employees that tried telling us that boiled and steamed shrimp are the same. They are not the same and this lack of knowledge was evident in the tough, rubbery shrimp they had cooked, packaged and sold us. Although we may purchase seafood from them going forward they have proven to us that they do not know how to cook shrimp. If I hadn't gotten a large portion of high quality crab legs and shrimp, I would've given one star for my experience.... I love a good "grocery store hole in the wall" place. When I tell you the hush puppies are one of one, I mean it. Hands down the best there is. The reason I didn't give a 5 star is because when I asked about the crab sandwich, to check if they had anymore crab left they looked in the freezer section. To me, that threw me off considering that there is nothing but fresh product in there. The shrimp is killer, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Price was a little high but nothing I am upset over. We then ordered a Mahi platter (sautéed) and it was excellent but they should have an option for all hush puppies!!! Platt's rated high on yelp for options in our area of Cherry Grove Beach. I think it's great that Platt's is both a place for prepared and unprepared food. There was quite a rush as we ordered which felt like a good sign. Between the 5 of us we had Flouder, Shrimp, Crab Cakes, Stuffed Crab, and Spots (on special). Everything was delicious and to our liking. And definitely would be worth a return visit. However, portions were somewhat small based on what I'm typically used to. An additional note, service was a bit cold. I'm learning that this might be the way of a beach town and workers who deal with crowds during the summer months. read more

The crab legs were 17.99 per pound and the LARGE peeled and deveined shrimp were 12.99 per pound. They steam it and season for you with Old Bay. They also ask you if you want mild medium or heavy seasoning. Both the crab legs and the shrimp were so juicy and the crab legs were super meaty. You could taste that it was really fresh and it was super delicious. I got a medium seasoning which was good enough flavoring. They have a lot of other options like fish and oysters and scallops too. If you want fried food, you should order a couple hours before they close because they had stopped taking orders at 7 when they close at 9 and their fryer turns off at 8. read more
