Everytime our family visits the strand, a visit to Play on The Strand is always a required stop. My youngest daughter and I get bored with the whole bougie shopping scene on the strand, so my wife turns us loose while she shops. My daughter and I always head over to Play on The Strand with our pockets full of quarters. We head straight to the back and hit up the arcade. They've got some pinball machines back there along with a couple of arcade games. We fill their machines up with quarters then check out all the cool toys they have. They have a lot of cool toys in there and my daughter seems to always sucker me into buying her something when we leave. I always enjoy supporting small businesses here in Galveston, and their toys are of good quality. I highly recommend a visit to anyone who visits The Strand. If you have kids and you're walking on the Strand, you can bet your kids will spot this place. And once inside, if they find something they like, you'll be paying full price for it. Really good toy store and its the only true toy store on the island. The atmosphere of being here is Great they are a hands on toystore so you can play with almost anything you want and desire. They have a wide variety of toys and stuff for all ages, and they have a great arcade in the back with stuff like shooters, multicade, and pinball. Over all great time for the family.​ read more

This shop has been my absolute favorite find in a long, long time. I was walking The Strand for the first time when I saw the sign for a toy store from the sidewalk, and being a huge geek I just had to check it out. Play on the Strand is absolutely wonderful. The first thing I saw upon entering were the Funko Pop shelves, which I immediately gravitated towards. The pops were just the beginning, because this store has an assortment of different toys, games, books and other geeky items to satiate both children and adults. The best thing about the store were the owners, though. They were incredibly sweet and we ended up conversing for a while! I honestly can't wait until the next time I'm on the island to check Play on the Strand out again! read more

We need more of these toy stores like this! Kids have been behaving and taking changes very well so I figured I should treat them to a little toy while we were on the strand. In here they had old and new toys, small to big and in all price ranges. We originally came here for an event and stopped by and we were very pleased with the wonderful staff. I appreciate the old school feel like back when I was younger and mom and pop shops like these were the norm. On our next trip to the island, we definitely like to stop by to support a great local business and look forward to gifting my kids a toy before they get older. read more

My Son loved it. Prices are what you would expect from one of the only toy stores on the strand. Picked up some cool unique things like a 3D car puzzle. Will return and recommend to anyone with children. read more

This store was awesome. Newer toys movie and tv you'd older toys old video games in the back. The older toys I almost turned into a kid and bought them all. Lava lamps tops I bought a Rubiks cubes he employees were cool to very knowledgeable on their stuff. I'll be back to check it out again on another trip again read more

Play on The Strand is one of the neatest toy stores ever. I was so impressed with the inventory. I wish there were more toy stores like that one. Bill, the owner, was a delight to speak to and I loved how he demonstrated his toys and allowed you to "play" in the store before purchasing. Bring your quarters!!! You can play pinball for 50 cents and arcade games for 25. The shop is a play store as well. Try before you buy. The owner is amazing. Super Fun to talk to. We go here and to La Kings every trip to Galveston. It's a tradition. My kids are young adults now and we still MUST stop to play on the strand. The store is family owned and the staff is knowledgeable and patient with children. I love that they allow you to touch and play with all the gadgets and toys. Their selection is also nice, from the new and hot to the old and reliable, they a little bit of everything! Go! You'll make it a family tradition too. read more

Employees are rude. Constantly nagging you about your mask being up over nose. Threatening a friend of mine who was dealing with his child to put on his mask immediately or he would have to leave or they would call the police. He had it in his pocket chill and complied with the employees request. Three families walked in and out not buying anything because of the rudeness of your employees. We had bragged on the store to our friends and said this was a cool place to come. But they ruined the experience! read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. Today I visited while on vacation with my family including my young son. I had read a lot about this store and was excited to go pick up some cool things for him and support a small business. However, when we walked in, the two girls working behind the counter were talking to a customer about how angry they were that the mayor had extended the mask wearing rule until the end of September. They had found a like mind in the customer and continued to talk about how COVID-19 is all nothing more than a conspiracy, that none of it is real anyhow and that it is less dangerous than the flu. This conversation went on and on as I shopped around the store. I watched the clerk with blonde hair remove her masks several times as she was cheered on by the customer as being "refreshing". Though at first we tried to continue shopping, after more than 5 minutes of the employees talking about how fake COVID is/was, we decided to put down all our things and leave for several reasons: 1. I had a friend who is an ICU nurse nearly DIE because she has to take care of people who treat COVID as if it is a joke. Thankfully she lived but she is still dealing with the effects it took on her body. 2. If employees think it is funny to remove their masks in front of customers, I was concerned about the way those same employees might treat the cleaning of the store and the things my son my pick up. 3. Even if this is how your employees, or even the owner feels, this is not the place to speak openly about it because there is a high likelihood that people in the store have been touched in some way by COVID. Though I'm generally not one to leave a bad review, I caution parents with young kids about bringing them into the store as it is uncertain how seriously employees take COVID and how that might reflect upon your exposure risk. I'm sorry to have not been able to support a small business during this time but I sincerely hope the owner takes the time to talk to his/her employees about the seriousness of COVID and the growing about of children infected. I also hope you can google the stories of the over 150,000 people who have died in the USA who might be proof that this is anything BUT a conspiracy. read more

This is probably the best toy store I've been to since I was a kid. We visited the store with my almost two year old son and he had a blast. We loved that he could play with the toys right there on the floor and sample them, if you will; picked up a few goodies for him. Everyone in the store was extremely helpful! IMO, hard to find a genuine "toy store" like this these days, stocked with the good old toys that I enjoyed myself while growing up. Brought back good times. Will definitely be back. Not to mention, the owner (I presume) spent some time playing with my kiddo, had great recommendations for food and fun on the island, and we appreciated his time. read more

This is such a great store for people of all ages. They moved from down the street and it's in a way better location. The owner and all of the employees are really friendly and care about all of their customers having a great time. Everything in here is inexpensive and is a great alternative to buying things online. I'll preface this by saying that I have no children, so I'm not an expert on the current state of toys. We happened across this store as we walked along The Strand. The store was filled with plenty of really cool toys and the staff was very helpful. The prices seemed high, but I imagine that the markup has to be higher for a small business. The part I like was their collection of White Mountain Puzzles. You can't find good puzzles these days. read more

Amazing store! Popped in to check it out and wanted to buy everything! There's old school games that will bring you back to your childhood. The prices are very reasonable and affordable! You can spend a decent amount of time walking through this large selection of games you thought you'd never find. The gentleman at the front, who I think is the owner was very friendly and helpful.
