Playa Bowls has been on my mind the past few days now that it's getting warmer, but when my coworker walked in with a Tidal Wave Cloud Smoothie, that sealed the deal...I just HAD to have it. So good and refreshing. I typically get the green power bowl and add strawberries, but this was a nice change from the norm. Everything here is so fresh and tasty. I've been to this location several times and it has always been a good experience. Service is quick and the place is clean. Seating is plentiful both indoors and outside. I brought my two kids here for a quick meal and it did not disappoint! We were surprised with how spacious Playa Bowls was as soon as we walked in. There is outdoor seating as well as plenty of indoor seating, including bar tables and regular tables as well. They also have a high chair which was very helpful. We were greeted right away by the friendly staff and our order was ready before we knew it! We got a 20oz Green Smoothie (Kale, banana, pineapple & coconut milk) and a Pacific Green Bowl (green blend with kale, pineapple, banana & coconut milk topped with strawberries, bananas, blueberry flax granola, chia seeds and honey). It was all great! My kids thought the green bowl felt like they were eating ice cream and it was very creamy and not icy at all. They were generous with the toppings and it was very satisfying. The smoothie was delicious as well. We had wanted to try a juice but unfortunately the juicer broken. It's expensive but that's to be expected from an açaí bowl place! This would be a lovely place to meet a friend to catch up if you're feeling healthy and wanting something light. Went through rt 18 and found this place . My wife and kids love fruits and wanted to try these bowls . We ordered Goji . Service was quick . Nice indoors and lots of seats around . Price was ok . Got a bowl for about 12$ which isn't very expensive. Lovely presentation and we were waiting to eat the whole bowl. It was tasty . The only issue we had was with the crushed ice at the botttom . It was so cold when we digged in at bottom that our tooth froze .. wish they don't put crushed ice at the bottom .. we also got sore throat right after we ate the bowl . If not for the crushed ice , I think it's a brilliant food to eat ... could have give. 4 stars , if not for our sore throat nice place overall... read more

Came in during a summer heat wave to get a nice refreshing bowl for some friends and I. I had placed my order ahead on the Playa Bowls app since I'm a regular customer. This was my first time ordering at this location; I simply chose the one closest to the friends I was going to visit. While Playa Bowls is a chain, I have definitely noticed quality and portion variations between different locations. Upon entering this location, the employees behind the counter seemed very busy. One of them saw me standing waiting for some time and asked to help me. I gave her my mobile order ID. She seemed a bit rushed and unfriendly. Regardless, I understood it was probably an overwhelming day for them due to ty w heat. As soon as I got my order, I drove for about 15 minutes before I got to my destination. As soon as I got there, I stored them in the freezer in case they may have gotten a bit runny from the heat in the car. My friends and I took them out of the freezer after about 25 minutes. While that helped solidify the texture, my bowl was a little underwhelming. I had gotten my usual custom bowl with quite a number of fruits on top. The bowl felt a bit lighter than usual as if they had skimped quite a bit on portions. I still enjoyed the signature flavor, but I expected a bit more satisfaction for a bowl over 15 dollars. Over all, this location was a bit subpar. They were lacking both in quality and service. I definitely wouldn't seek this one out in the future, but I'm still a die-hard Playa fan. read more

I'm not sure what has changed in the past several months, but this establishment has gone down hill. Some things I have noticed lately is a negative in costumer service. I went to get lunch one day and there were two girls working. One was sitting at a table on what appeared to be a phone while a line formed. There was a mess near the toilet on the bathroom floor. When I went back a week later, it was still there. One of the employees was using the blender stick without a cover. I had to ask for it to be remade because that can lead to plastic in the product. I went there for the final time the other day for a bowl. When I got back to work and began to eat it, I found a long black hair in the bowl. So sad...my friends and I used to love going here. After driving by this place many times, I was finally able to stop by and give it a try. I was always wondering how it would be compared to frutta bowls, which is my favorite go to acai place. I ordered the nutella acai bowl, which is pretty much the same as frutella bowl at frutta bowls. After a few bites, I immediately knew that frutta bowls was still my favorite. But I do have to say, playa bowls does have a much larger menu, with plenty of options to choose from. Staff were very friendly and it is located inside a strip mall along with home goods, pie five, mandees, ulta, and five and below. There was plenty of seating inside as well. There are so many of these fruit dessert shops these days, each with their own variation. Playa bowls has a beachy and fun atmosphere. (I believe they have a lot of shops down the shore.) I like that all of the menu items are fruit themed. You know that you are at least fulfilling some of the food pyramid groups. We had a hard time choosing a bowl because none of the bowls had the combinations that we wanted. Later, one of the staff said we could customize if we wanted (but it wasn't evident from the menu.). Definitely my favorite Playa Bowls location I've visited so far! It's huge inside, with high ceilings and beautiful artwork on them too. They put so much detail in the decor here, even the menu is really inviting to look at. It's located in a shopping center next to Hand & Stone Massage. It has a great spot in the shopping center, sort of tucked away. The outside area is big, with comfy adirondack chairs to sit in. The staff here is so sweet and friendly. I felt at home here. The person in front of me was trying nearly every base they have (yes you can do that!) and the staff was super helpful in explaining what each one was made of. This location also has Poke if that's your thing. It's not mine, but hey everyone is different. I would recommend trying one of the bases if you've never had Acai before. I've tried both Acai and Pitaya, and Acai is my favorite. Having an Acai bowl always makes me feel good after. I will be coming back! read more

With this in mind......I really shouldn't have to wait around for 20 minutes for 1 Acai Bowl. I love Playa Bowls but this location continues to lack in Customer Awareness skills. I ordered online and went in to pick it up. The girl behind the counter called my name, I said "yes" and went over to get it, then noticed it wasn't my order. Someone else with the same name went over and grabbed it, then left. I assumed mine wasn't ready yet since the girl knew my name. I stood there for 15 minutes watching people order in person and pick up. Finally, as I was about to say something, another employee asked if I was waiting for an order, when I told her I was, she asked my name. THE SAME GIRL behind the counter grabbed my order from the fridge, put it on the counter and said, "thank you, have a great day", and went back to doing what she was doing. Not even a shred of awareness that I was waiting on an order with that name. I've had issues in the past with employees socializing while I wait for my order to be made, or not one person behind the counter looking up when a customer walks in. If you're busy just say "We'll be right with you". We're not asking for the red carpet, but we are spending our money there, maybe acknowledge that we're not inconveniencing you. read more

I went to your East Brunswick location today and ordered a power bowl and 20 oz Mermaid Fuel. I had tried the previous week to order this drink from this location and was told my order was ready and when I went to obtain my order they said "ohh the juicer doesn't have work. Today I tried once more. My drink was yellow with orange foam coming out of it. I said to the associate is this the mermaid fuel she said yes. I said it's usually green. She stated it's normal because we use the stalks. I have had this drink multiple times and it has never had orange foam coming from it. I tried it and it tasted like oranges. How does a drink with Kale, Pineapple, Mint, and Green Apple come out yellow tasting like oranges. I walked back in and asked for a refund. They told me to keep the drink, I said no ad this is not what I order. I then proceeded to be ignored for 10 minutes why the staff walked past me, glarring at me and taking other customers why I waited. When they finally got their manager they said "ohh we remade your drink" I said that I wanted a refund, and no a remake. The staff's customer service was appalling. I am so glad this place opened up in East Brunswick because it is such a convenient place. I am only giving them one star less because of price. I don't think each bowl should be $10 but it is a healthier alternative so I shouldn't complain. It is very clean and the menu is huge so there are a lot of options. They have bases which consist of açaí, coconut, banana, pitaya, "green," chia and oatmeal. My favorite so far is the Nutelloco which is a coconut base (raw coconut, agave, banana and coconut milk) topped with granola, banana, strawberry, raw cacao nibs, coconut flakes and Nutella. These are rather filling too! They even have poke bowls if you weren't craving fruity bowls. The ambiance is very cute. This place is pretty good overall and there has been some longer waits than id like but it happens i get it. Only bad experience ive been having is everytime i try to place an order for their juices i get told the machine is broken for the past 2 months. Ive been trying to order through uber eats/door dash. If youre going to be in the juicing business you need to have backup juicers or atleast get your juicer fixed within the next day or so. Had the pleasure of enjoying an "undecided bowl", they allow you to make split decisions between choosing two different bases for your bowl and as for toppings I just went along with one of their standard Nutella mixes. I have to say how refreshing it is to enjoy summer in a bowl when it's such horrible weather out.. it's like transporting yourself to a better place through taste and indulgence, not only for the price of 10-12 bucks that you not only get full, but you get an experience and I personally think that says a lot. This is a good place, and I have been here a few times. However, the time that I went today, was a bit mixed for me. I ordered the tide bowl here, which is a banana base, with mangoes pineapple, granola, and goji berries, which are these small bitter berries, that I don't particuarly like, but with this type of bowl. it really goes together with the bowl, and you barely taste it. Getting back to the bowl overall, the fruit did taste fresh in the bowl and that was good. The banana base was a little mushy, and quite slimy, and the granola, was a bit chewy. The flavors still mixed well, which was nice, but the bowl was not as good as I remembered from past visits. I have nothing against the girl who helped me however I am disappointed with the service. I go to this Playa Bowl nearly every day and order the exact same bowl each time. I have an allergy to banana, so I request no bananas in the base. I always have great service, but a girl who seems to work every Monday gives us a hard time. The first time she said the bowls are pre-made...which is a lie. Then today I made an online order and she told me that the entire staff that makes my bowls almost daily are wrong for "customizing" my bowl. This was the second time she gave us a hard time so I requested a refund. I was extremely upset that I literally have to avoid coming the days she works just so I can have my usual bowl that the staff makes amazingly! All I ever ask is to remove bananas. Where's the difficulty in that? Let alone I made an online order this time. Which she didn't make because it was "confusing", which is fine and understandable, but at least call to let us know. I ordered the Tropical Acai and Pura Vida, taste is good and a large portion. It can fit 2 person actually. The Tropical Acai includes pineapple, coconut flakes, banana and granola. The pineapple is kind of sour. And the Pura Vida includes strawberry, blueberry and granola. I prefer to get the Pura Vida coz there is more fruits in it. I placed an online order today. I walked in and there were about 5 employees not one greeted me. There was a man and 4 younger girls working. It seemed like two girls were training but I think customer service should be at the top of the training experience. He told the two girls I had a juice; the younger girl handed me the juice and I said "thank you have a nice day!" No response. No reply. One employee was working her tail off getting everything done while one manned the register (yet there were hardly any new orders/ customers in that period), one was on her phone adding no value, and the other was sitting and "managing". The employee doing everything apologized and I honestly felt bad for her because her co-workers were not carrying their weight. I've been here a few times. Bowls are inconsistent (sometimes they're filled to the top but many times they're not) and service is subpar. Today I waited almost 20 minutes for my order even though there were three employees behind the counter and there were barely any customers. Even worse, for some reason two other customers who came in after me got served before me. The kicker is that after that second customer got served I noticed no one behind the counter was working or making my order, and it wasn't until I got up to walk over to the counter that one employee even started to actually make the bowl. This isn't the first time I've had something like this happen to me at this specific Playa Bowls location. It's disappointing because I really like Playa Bowls, but I might have to just stick to ordering at other branches. read more
