Being my third Playa Bowls that I've been to, I knew what I was going to expect when I walked into the store. The usual tropical vibe filled the atmosphere with chill music on this crisp morning. East Main St was slowing coming alive from the class ending their session and everyone scrambling from the local University of Delaware campus for lunch. I did decide to grab a green power bowl; which is something different than the typical acai bowl that I order. The Green Pacific Power bowl was packed with bold flavor. The tart strawberry was a contrast from the sweet banana, while the shaved almonds and chia seeds added a crunch to it all. The location can get busy so either plan for a time that the students and local population is busy or order ahead with their app. You might be tempted to sit by the high chairs and people watch on the sidewalk or head to the next stop for food or drink on East Main St. This spot is open year round and with a Playa Bowl for breakfast; it'll never go out of season. read more

Ordered a smoothie bowl and it was melted when I received it. It was really melted coconut cream with a dollop of toppings. I ate at the establishment so there was no wait time between the time I received my bowl and started eating it. The ratio of the toppings for the smoothie base was not enjoyable (maybe 5 small slices of strawberry and thinly sliced mushy banana). The bowl cost $14 (without extras/add ons). For $14 I would think you should have enough toppings to get through the smoothie base. Not the first or second time this has happened Playa Bowls. Not worth the cost in my opinion. read more

Tried Playa Bowls for the first time today and LOVED IT! First off the establishment location (Main Street, Newark) is cool so it's surrounded by a lot of other great places. Once inside it was very bright and airy..kind of a beach scene. I was happy that is was so clean inside seeing as it's located close to a college campus. There are a lot of choices when it comes to the bowls that are available not to mention if you can decide, you get to build your own...that was my favorite part. I created a half kale and half açaí base bowl with strawberries, mangoes, & pineapples. Finished it off with a honey drizzle ($10)...& BABYYYY it was everything! I wasn't sure I was going to like it seeing as I'm funny with too many textures in my foods but I had not one complaint after that first bite. The staff were great in helping me decide on what to get. Allowed me to taste test each base of my choice before I committed to something and answered any question I asked and I had plenty, lol. DISAPPOINTING ... I might need to rethink my one-a-day Playa Bowl. Purchased six recently and five of my Playa Bowls were skimpy ... I left asking "Where's the base and where's the fruit? I'm used to having my bowls filled to the brim, because they are not cheap. I noticed when they were being made, the young lady missed the bowl and the base fell on the scale instead of inside the bowl Nevertheless, I could shake the fruit around inside of the bowl with the lid on. Moreover, there were big air holes in all five bowls. I just want what I am paying for I am not purchasing air. Check out my pictures. I hope I can share my video. This was my first time trying an acai bowl, so take this review with a grain of salt. I ordered the Nutella one and got half acai and half coconut - and added blueberries. At first I was pleasantly surprised as I tasted mostly the coconut flakes and the Nutella. Quickly, I was discouraged as I realized acai bowls weren't really my thing. The one complaint I do have is the way the bowl is laid out, you have to work to disperse everything correctly. Eventually I just ended up with the acai and a little bit of fruit with no flakes of coconut and no Nutella. The atmosphere here felt appropriate and it was very clean. never had an açaí bowl before this weekend and ended up going saturday AND sunday bc they were so good! you can get a regular sized bowl or a half size for half the price. I just got the half size because I wasn't super hungry. they were both really good though and I would recommend the trestles for something sweeter/chocolately or the nosara for something more fruity and vanilla. the honey they drizzle on top and granola are soooo good! will definitely be back read more

When my name was finally called, I was given a half ass acai bowl - it was really disappointing. The bottom was filled with granola, layered with watery, bland smoothie which was topped with more granola, and overly riped fruits (the banana looked brown). My mom and I are were so unsatisfied with our first bites but decided to give it a second chance...and a third chance..and a fourth chance but the bowl did not get better. This was definitely the first and 100% last time I'll be visiting Playa Bowls. I highly recommend heading to Viva Bowls down the street instead to get your acai bowl fix! read more

It went above and beyond my expectations. Not only did they have açaí based bowls, they have kale, banana, coconut, and pitaya based bowls! You can choose one base or do half/half. The first time I tried kale, second visit I had kale/pitaya. Both were delicious! Once you have chosen the base, you get three toppings and a drizzle choice. The topping choices are endless - fresh fruit, different types of granola, coconut flakes, nuts, seeds, cacao. They also have bowls ideas to choose from, if you don't want to make your own. Other items they offer are: smoothies, chia pudding, oatmeal, and fresh juices. The store was clean and fun. The staff was friendly and helpful. I have heard there can be a long wait if they are busy. I got there right before a rush of people, so I barely waited for my bowl. I went to to playa bowls earlier today on main street, I had a simple order and was a little confused on why it was taking so long, when I asked the manager or woman in charge who was named Ameenah, she was very rude and dismissive towards me, and barking at her workers to handle me instead, when it is her job. I feel that a manager or someone in that position should be friendly, and supportive, not mean and lazy. I would not recommend this business to anyone while their managing staff remains like this, unless you like being treated like your a middle schooler ordering lunch. I don't know why I keep coming here. Yes, the menu has the most variety of the three local açaí bowl establishments, but the product just is not worth the close to an hour wait. I came in this morning thinking that there was no way the wait could be as bad as normal since the pesky college kids are all gone for the summer. Man was I wrong. There was a line halfway to the door to order and twice as many people waiting for their bowls. One person was taking orders and making bowl and one person was...doing something (‍) in the back. Half made bowls were sitting all over the back counter melting as they waited to be finished, leading to a really lackluster finished product (think cold soup with stuff floating in it). I requested no agave and gluten free granola on my bowl. They definitely put agave on top and I'm pretty convinced they used granola that was not gluten free even though I was charged extra for it.
