This is the best açaí bowl EVER! It is also one of the only locations in SC to get one, but I would choose Playa regardless. The açaí base is delicious and they offer a bunch of fresh fruit toppings and I personally love to add peanut butter and chia seeds. The inside has a fun, beach interior that feels like you aren't in central PA anymore. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but the quality is excellent! We've hit the playa bowls at the beach so we were excited when they opened in State College. It's a chain known for healthier options with a push to promote the benefits of acai. It's on the east side of calder way and the location kind of stinks as its hidden amongst the various apartment buildings with poor access and parking. first time trying any açaí bowl and I loved it! The employee at the register was super helpful and patient, and answered all my questions! I even got to sample the açaí and pitaya bases. Açaí is definitely on the sweeter side while pitaya is less sweet. I'm a huge fan of their açaí base! The decorations inside are so cute! They have plenty of seating and some fun board games too! This was a strictly medium acai bowl. I wouldn't recommend the green one. It was almost mealy and tasted of only banana. The acai was fine, but really sweet, and I personally couldn't finish it. The menu is a little overwhelming (think: snow cone place with one million flavors.) I am an avid acai bowl enthusiast so I thought I had to try this place, but it ranks pretty low. There really isn't parking around the building. They said because of covid you can park at the pizza place and walk over but otherwise just park in front of the playa bowl place (illegally?) and that's fine for 15 minutes. The inside of the place is kind of cute. I really wanted to love it. Some of the staff weren't wearing masks which was a little off putting, and there were some patrons eating inside but I think most took it to go like we did. With a 15% tip, the cost of these two bowls for us was $27, which is simply too much for a mediocre experience. If you're desperate for a bowl, this will do, but it wouldn't be my first choice if I had one. read more

Unfortunately, no matter how great the food is or how cute the place is set up, the girls who work here were EXTREMELY unprofessional. Three blonde girls in particular, and I only call them out because there was a brunette girl and a boy who were keeping to themselves for the most part. There were f-bombs dropped, talking about who is "hooking up" with who, and screaming about apps on their phones. In addition, they were talking about all the fruit that went bad and were screaming about other people that work there and how they are "so bad" at their job and they "hate" working with them. This honestly is one of my favorite places in State College. That being said they have horrible customer service. From being someone who worked in customer service they are horrible. There is a certain level of being rude that is acceptable but they go way past that. They talk about customer and other employees while you can hear. All that was before covid and it has only gotten worse. During covid they will stand there and make your food while their mask are either not covering their nose or mouth. They never have it one the whole way. All the time they stand there over top of your food making it and spreading germs. They also continue to talk spreading more germs. I would go there more but they are a real safety issue during covid. 100% do not go here during covid. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more
