I have been a licensed massage therapist for 30 years and have worked in a wide variety of professional massage settings. In three decades in this profession, I have never encountered anything quite like this. I had frequented this business repeatedly and had seen this particular therapist many times. I appreciated her work enough that I returned and booked a two-hour massage with her. I was subsequently informed that my appointment had been canceled because I did not "tip enough." Let that sink in. A gratuity is, by definition, voluntary. It is not part of the agreed-upon price of a service, nor should continued access to a therapist be contingent upon meeting some undisclosed expectation for additional compensation. If a business or therapist requires a particular amount above the advertised rate, then that amount should be reflected transparently in the price of the service--not enforced after the fact through cancellation of a returning client. Whether this reflects a management problem in which therapists are not being adequately compensated, or simply the expectations of an individual therapist, I cannot say. What I can say is that management apparently allowed a longtime returning client to be refused service because of an allegedly insufficient gratuity. As someone who has spent 30 years in this profession, I find that deeply unprofessional and contrary to the spirit of what gratuity is supposed to mean. For the record, I tipped 20% on my previous two-hour massage. But the amount is ultimately beside the point. I have treated countless people over the course of my career, some of whom tipped generously, some modestly, and some not at all. I have never "fired" a client because I decided their gratuity wasn't sufficient. Massage therapy is a professional service. Charge what your work is worth. Pay your therapists what their work is worth. But don't advertise one price and then quietly impose an unwritten financial test on clients afterward. She is a GODSEND and an absolute sweetheart. As soon as the massage started, my phone accidentally went off (in silent mode but Mom is on bypass, OOPS!) so I jumped up naked lol, apologizing profusely and darting for my phone. Cindy just waved her hands and softly said "oh don't worry, don't worry".. Her technique is unique in that she incorporates these long, deep, VERY slow strokes which are so intentional and intuitive. She knows exactly how much pressure to apply to every inch of you, but she'll also ask just to be sure. I had extreme tightness from a motorcycle accident and I've never felt so loosened and relieved. She even straightened my neck hump a bit! Wow lol. We chatted a little about my injuries and her positive energy is both comforting and refreshing. I feel like she genuinely cares about your well-being. She even gave me a hug after I tipped her, such a doll! The prices here are reasonable AND I respect the fact that they need to raise prices but do so incrementally so people can afford to make appointments closer together. They've got a new monthly client now! Great business strategy imo. I want to mention the young professional at the front desk. . Friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. She's a keeper. The establishment itself is clean, cozy, peaceful and aesthetically pleasing.. Especially if you love plants. You can tell someone considers them their babies! Received a gift certificate for a massage here from my partner, and I have to say I was about 95% delighted. My massage therapist was Cindy, who was quite intuitive with my body and responsive to my concerns about my right foot which had been through a couple of major surgeries. I like the ambience immediately upon walking in; it was very quiet with a young receptionist at the desk who immediately greeted me, had me fill out a form since it was my first time there, and asked whether I needed to use the restroom before my service. I did, and then she guided me to The massage room where I had a really wonderful session with Cindy. She was completely professional and thorough. The only reason I am taking a star off is that she left the room about three times during our massage and it was dead quiet in the room for the first couple of minutes until I asked whether we could have some relaxing music. She immediately left and returned to some relaxing spa music coming though the ceiling speaker. The only other thing that was odd for me was that in the past massage sessions, I've had my massage therapist waiting outside in the hallway with a glass of water for me or something. Cindy left the room, disappeared, and never returned, so I had to leave her cash tip with the receptionist at the desk. I am hoping she received it because She did do a good job. read more

He was very dismissive and acted like I was a pain in his butt and he wasn't going to honor the gift certificate. Okay... first time ever at Playa Massage. I'm 70 and used to get massages however haven't in quite awhile. That's gonna change, however, after today's massage with Grace. Playa Massage runs a very nice spot on a strip mall in PDR. Okay... back to the massage... Grace was terrific. I received a "full" 60 minutes (not 50) with my massage. She was also very thoughtful and thorough. Cost for 1 hour massage: $80. After reading their brochure next time I will book the "sports massage"at $90. My ONLY complaint about this establishment is a sign in every massage room that recommends "tips" at $20-30 for an hour massage. At an $80 massage rate that would translate to a gratuity to 25-35%! I asked "ChatGPT" today what is the appropriate tip for a massage. Answer: 15-20% of massage cost. Okay... an $80 massage then should have a tip of $12-$16, not what the sign says in the massage rooms of suggesting tips of $20 (25%) to $30 (37.5%). Sebastien (the owner)... should you be reading this get rid of those signs in the massage room as it lowers the "class" of your facility. read more

The second time I asked for all the changes based on my physical needs. Since then I absolutely love it. Cindy is incredibly good masseuse whom I get my massages from. I went for several pregnancy and postpartum massages, and now regular. I always get 90 minutes Swedish style, I have yet to try Thai and other options. 60 minutes is just not enough for me :) My mom and my husband also love their massage. My mom gets her massage from Jenny and she is also really good. You may/may not have a perfect massage session the first time. But after my time here, I believe in trying at least 2 times if not 3 to really get a true experience. First time is a trial, during 2nd time you customize to your liking (pressure points, which area you'd like to focus on longer vs shorter, etc.), to know if that's your thing. I am so glad I gave this place a second chance. Their waiting area is aesthetically pleasing and massage rooms are simple & clean. The staffs are friendly and most importantly very accommodating. I exclusively breastfeed my infant on demand, so I always need to make last minute reservations. I always come out of this place feeling relaxed and wanting to go back again. I just had Nita and she is small but mighty - horrible hip flexor and outer hip pain and she really did a number on me for the sports massage I chose today - was painful but needed.
