This is my favorite one stop shop in El Porto. The owner is so friendly and just a gem. As is everyone i've met who works there. Craving a nice bottle of wine? They have a great selection. After reading one of the yelp reviews for this store, I knew that I had also been scammed. The clerk, an older man with white hair gave me an in correct amount of change back. The charge was $20. I gave him a $50. he fuddled around a bit in the cash register taking out all $5 bills. He then said sorry I only small bill change. I didn't count it. After I got home I realized I had been shorted $10. Pretty bad. I had bought my great aunt a lotto ticket per request. He said I would be luckier in a whore house than with that thing. I have been stopping by 'Player's Liquor' for many years mostly because it is located right below 'El Porto Surf.' Player's Liquor is a small liquor store that is situated in the 'El Porto' area of Manhattan Beach. This liquor store is located within walking distance of several restaurants & bars in the area and gets quite a bit of foot traffic from both. Player's Liquor as stated above is on the small side but they still have basically everything any other Liquor store might have in the area. Player's Liquor sells a wide range of microwavable food items, cereals, soups, potato chips, dips, ice cream, beer, wine & of course alcohol. Player's Liquor acts as a local supermarket for those who live within the area for your basic food, alcohol & lottery needs. The parking at Player's is quite limited and is 'interesting' getting in and out of this lot with your car. If the lot is full there is limited residential / street parking available and strictly enforced by the Manhattan Beach parking enforcement. I am all about supporting the local business. The next time I visit 'El Porto Surf' to reload on surfboard wax I will without question visit Player's Liquor and ensure I purchase something. If you happen to be in the area make sure you stop and do the same. The staff that works here are always friendly and always have a smile on their faces and service with a smile truly says a lot about the person and a lot about the store=) With Player's Liquor being so close to the water ensure whatever you purchase finds its way to the proper recycling receptacle, Be the Good, always!!!!!!!! This is a great little liquor store, directly across from Sharkeez Manhattan Beach. Basic liquor, snacks, sodas, etc. They have a great selection of everything, and easy to get to going north on Highland (or walking home from Sharkeez). read more

Tonight me and a friend, who is a United States Marine, was looking for a liquor store and stumbled upon this place, my friend goes inside to buy a bottle of Jack Daniels & Coke a Cola and when asked for I.D. he showed the clerk his military I.D. and was then DENIED service. The clerk said "we do not honor that here", they do not honor him serving his country and helping fight for those who can't fight for themselves. and no he wasn't looking for a discount when he showed his military I.D., that's the only form of I.D. he had at the time. read more

I happened to make the unfortunate mistake of being at Player's Liquor tonight. While there, I was throwing a single piece of trash away at their dumpster. The owner's son came out and started yelling extreme profanities at me, trying to antagonize me into a fight, and explaining to me that he was going to kick my ass and all my friends asses (even though I was alone). While removing my trash from the dumpster, I explained how inappropriate he was acting, which further enraged him and caused him to start hitting my car window. In my opinion, it is not a good business model to threaten your customers and reflects poorly on your business and family. DO NOT go to Players Liquor. Walk the two blocks south to Moons Market or two blocks north to El Porto Market and Deli. read more

Love this little, "old school" liquor/ convenience store! Has everything you could need, nice wine selection, helpful people behind the counter, PARKING which is rare for a store by the beach. So convenient to grab whatever you need on the way to or from the beach. read more
