Such rude staff at this location. On a Saturday after dinner with two friends, the three of us walked by this spot and decided to pop in for a glass of wine. We only received stares when we walked in. There were open tables and only about two other groups in the shop. Not knowing the location's process or where we could sit, we waited about five minutes inside by the fridge, assuming that the two staff members there were just finishing up conversations. It became apparent that we were being ignored, so we started inching closer inside. The woman working looked at us then and said "Are you trying to get some wine? Or what's going on here?" Taken aback, we kindly replied, saying that we walked by and were intrigued and would love to get a glass of wine. There was no response or instruction on how to be served by the woman or the second staff member, so we ended up just walking out.... My second favorite place besides my own home , Uncorked is the best. The staff is so kind and welcoming, and always has the best recommendations for wine. I love to have a quick wine tasting, chat with whoever is working and pick their brain about wine. My only wish is that they stocked a bit more wine and brought back some of my favorites , but at the same time it forces me to try something new. Yesterday my husband & I had the best experience at this wine shop. We were kind of rushed out of a restaurant we were at previously, but it was such a gorgeous day in Manhattan Beach that we weren't ready to go home just yet. We walked around, did a little sidewalk shopping and decided to have some wine. We've shopped here before and there was a very sweet young girl who recommended us a wonderful bottle of wine to take to our Arthur J reservation. & I'm happy to say we got the same experience yesterday with Pamela. Pamela was so friendly from the time we walked in that we ended up staying for 3 hours lol. She recommended the perfect bottle of Sake for us and we literally sat there inside the shop with her and mingled with guests coming in & out for 3 hours. Even when the shop got crazy busy, she handled it like a pro, all by herself!! Things took an awkward turn when the owner of the boutique next door came over and basically scolded Pamela in front of us, for having the AC too low. I was later told that this shop shares the AC with her. My husband & i felt so bad because Pamela was only trying to accommodate us by turning it on. We were sitting inside, right in front of the glass window so my husband and i were starting to sweat sitting there but we didn't want to leave, or go sit outside because the fun was INSIDE!! It was a little unprofessional for the boutique owner to handle the situation that way. I definitely can understand her frustration but all she had to do was ask her to turn it off, or up some. There was no reason that paying customers should've witnessed that! But overall, great music, great people, & great service. You guys definitely have new "regular" customers now and we will definitely be back in soon!! What started off was a great time, ordered a couple-flights of wine, followed that up with a full bottle of wine and now I'm $100 or more dollars in. I noticed a note on the table that stated " $20 per person minimum (check) and 2 hour limit (check). I was concerned that we were close to the 2 hour limit, I asked the waitress and she noted we could stay for 20 more minutes, I asked if we buy more wine can we stay and she said yes. I purchased another bottle of wine, spend total about $150 dollars. We met another couple at the trouble next to us and ended up having such a great time, we exchanged info and will meet next time in town. Waitress even mentioned that it was nice to see that people become close when there,here , our waitress was great and we were having a great time. Now you may ask, if you had a great time why the 1 star rating, if I was able it would have gotten no stars. In comes Daryle, older gentleman with long grey hair who should never be in customer service and should immediately be fired if I owned the place. He came out and told us we need to leave, I advised we purchased a bottle of wine and had 2 more people coming to meet us. He said that we couldn't stay at our table and literally set a timer on his phone for 10 minutes and that's all we had to finished what we purchased. I advised that we talked to the waitress regarding the table and was able to stay. None the less he told us to leave and never come back again. He threatened to call the police on us for staying. Mind you we spent about $150 dollars and was causing no issues, and he made us feel like criminals around all other guests and my wife was crying, we did nothing wrong and paid for everything we purchased. The table next to us said to forget about it as the waiter "Daryl" was out of line. Not so easy when he made my wife cry, Daryl is a menace to customer service oriented business and should be fired immediately, if not I will do everything in my power legally to make sure the place fails! This is a disgrace as we have come here for years and the Poop Deck was our favorite which is now closed. I hope the owner takes this seriously! read more

Love this place!!!! I just moved to Manhattan beach in January and this place is my weekly go to for wine tasting! They change out their tastings every 3 days, so you are always trying new wines. Sometimes my boyfriend and I will put our name down at a restaurant for dinner, which on a weekend is usually an hour wait at least, and we'll head over here for a wine tasting before dinner. It's the best! The owners Patty and Barb are delightful and so knowledgeable about wine. I've learned so much, whether it be how some Chardonnays are aged in oak barrels while others aged in sterling steel, and how it makes such a difference in taste. I go to Sonoma every year and I mentioned some of my favorite wineries to the sisters, and they knew the owners and the wine and everything! I went to one of their sponsored wine tastings by ammunition wines and it was so fun! All my friends and I bought bottles, which come at a discount if you do the tasting! Overall, I love wine tasting and am SO HAPPY to have this place in Manhattan Beach! read more

We kind of wandered upon this place and it was fun. The tastings were all pretty good although I kind of felt awkward when the guy just kind of stared at us until we were done with our current glass and gave us another pour immediately. I felt kind of rushed and also wasn't really able to enjoy much of a conversation with my fiancé. Regardless the flights were reasonably priced ($10) and we liked a wine enough to buy one-- for about 15 bucks after the 10% tasting discount. They also had a few snacks to eat to cleanse your palette while tasting. Looking around the store, there were a lot of really cute wine lover gifts and things and the bottles of wine were reasonably priced. Very disappointed with our experience today. My fiancé and I were excited to try a new wine shop and taste some great wines. Admittedly we came in relatively close to closing time. We walked in at 5:15 and the tastings are supposed to close at 5:45 and store closes at 6. That's still plenty of time to get a tasting in especially since there was no one else there. We walked in to the tasting area and were greeted with a hello from across the store. We asked if they were still doing tastings to which they responded with "ummmm .... well.....sure but we don't have all of them because we are closing in 20 minutes. I mean 20-40 minutes." So either they are closing early which isn't good or simply they didn't want to serve us. Considering they didn't even come over to talk to us. They continued to talk to us from across the store. I'm leaning towards the latter. This might not seem like a huge deal and maybe I'm being hyper sensitive. But it's just disappointing when you go somewhere that relies on customer service and you're treated like a nuisance. You would think they would actually want our money or would attempt to try to get you stay. Maybe swap out the wines that your missing (although I imagine they had more available they just didn't want to open more ). Or let us know that it would be a discounted price before we had to ask about it. I guess I just expected more from a wine store in Manhattan beach. It seems to have a nice selection of wines and other collectibles but if you are looking for a tasting experience I would try Uncorked or Barsha. read more

This is by far the best wine tasting that I've had in southern California. It is a small shop, ran by purely females with two sisters as owners; it is adjacent to a clothing store with a water bowl for any dogs that walked by. So right away, you know the service would be stupendous. The wine tasting selection was vast, ranging from regions of Spain to France to California and from varietals of chardonnay to merlot and to malbec. Each wine was unique with complexity. Of course, everyone has their preferences. The tasting experience was ever enriched by Liz, the wine specialist with over thirty years of experience. She was attentive and valued our opinion about each wine that she had poured. At the end of your tasting, she even accommodated us by asking if we wanted to revisit any of the wines. You felt absolutely safe to describe the wine in whatever vernacular that you were comfortable with. With your description, she recommended other bottles for us to purchase. Bacchus was my favorite wine store in NYC and right near my house. I was excited when they expanded but very disappointed when they closed a few years later. Imagine how excited I was to find it re-incarnated on the west coast when I moved back to LA! The same amazing service and outstanding wines. They don't carry a huge inventory like a BevMo, but everything is excellent. I have not had a bad bottle yet ( I have had some pretty bad wine at Bev Mo). Unlike Trader Joes, which is great for table wine, Bacchus carries wine that have something unique about them; complex favors, interesting characteristics, or just something different that sets them apart. The bottles are literally just a couple of dollars more than what you pay at BevMo or TJs but they are far superior to the big box stores. Nothing bad to say about BevMo or TJs but if you can make it to Bacchus it is worth it. read more
