After reading some rave reviews I decided to try Playful Paws out instead of enduring the stressful process of cutting my dogs nails. It's a cute little place playful decorated with some fun Hoboken themed doggy scarves and treats to reward to your dog with. I went on a Saturday so it was a little hectic with dogs running around waiting for their owners and new dogs coming in for services. But the staff was incredibly friendly and patient. They used the dremel on my anxious dog to trim them down a little and get rid of the ruffness (pun intended). Daria got right down on the ground with her in the lobby instead of having her go through, what would have been a much more stressful encounter -ie dragging her into the chaos with the other dogs and lifting her up on a table. All in all a good experience with fair prices and a nice team. Only wish is that the space were larger. But next time I'll definitely go during the week. read more

I have never been more conflicted writing a review on Yelp, but I feel I need to share my story as to inform those wishing to use their services. On one hand they are a great business with caring walkers and will help you out in a pinch. On the other hand they have questionable ethics when it comes to their customers. It is such a shame that I have to write a review like this as many of their walkers/sitters treated our pup with such love and care despite not always returning our toys and sometimes overfeeding our dog. It is rare that I write such a review, however I feel responsible for sharing my experience with Playful Paws for others who are looking for a company to care for their beloved furry friend. They have a new policy that they will not pet sit your dog unless you also use their walking services. There is no grandfathering anyone in. Unless you are 100% with them, you are out. They do a great job caring for pups and for that they are a wonderful company. Every dog walker/sitter we came into contact with was genuine and did their best to care for our dog. We have used Playful Paws twice now for our two kittens- once the sitter (Cherish) stayed over at our apartment so the cats would feel at home, and the following time we boarded them at the sitter's house. I'm very anxious about leaving the kittens as they require a lot of affection, and I LOVE that the kitties can sleep on or in the bed with the sitter if they want- so they won't feel lonely. Cherish sent regular text updates and pictures and I could see they were happy and having fun, which put my mind at ease, she was excellent. They are also very accommodating, as our flight was delayed and we had to pick them up pretty late, and very accommodating to our kitties special requests- toys, food etc.- and also administered the medication for one of them. Everyone at Playful Paws has been great. They have been great so far and I'm glad I went with them when choosing a dog walker. They text you when they are about to pick up your pet, tell you how the walk went, and let you know when they are about to finish up. I've been bringing my large German Shepherd mix here for the last couple of months for grooming and I had to write a review because this is, by far, the best groomer we've ever brought our dog to. They are extremely friendly and easy to communicate with - from the first time you call - to the time we pick up our dog. We got to know about Playful Paws as we needed a pet sitter service as soon as possible. We put in an application for adapting a puppy on Wednesday night and were approved on Thursday and got the newest member of our family "Riley" (8 weeks old) home on the Friday. We setup an appointment after speaking with Cherish and she came home with Juan who would be our primary walker. The appointment went great and they were super excited to meet Riley and play with her. Cherish was great as she cleared all concerns that we had as new puppy parents and assured us that she will be in great hands. Juan (primary), Amanda and Devin are amazing walkers and have taken amazing care of Riley with playing with her inside the home till she got all her vaccinations and then taking her out for daily walks after she received her vaccinations. We have Nest camera setup in Riley's pen area and we see the excitement when they come in to take her for walks. Juan has been amazing with sending us at least 3 pictures on a daily basis during her walks. I have no idea how he does it but he has been able to take great pictures of Riley even when we struggle to get them. He must be a true dog whisperer. The service has been amazing and they are really helpful. We had to cancel the daily walks on couple of occasions when one of us is working from home and as long as you email cherish or her team by 7 P.M previous day they don't charge you for the cancelled service. Unfortunately we would be moving in a month's time to where Playful Paws is not servicing else we would have continued with them even though Riley can now able to go to day care service. P.S You not only get pictures of your pet during the service but you can also track where all they have been during the walks using their GPS tool available on their website. The website is simple and easy to use and provides all the information you would need on it. You also get emails when the service starts as well as when it ends with the walker's comments and pictures. We recently moved to Hoboken and were in search for a dog walker for our two dogs. After reading gleaming reviews we decided to use playful paws. Sadly, our experience over the past 3 weeks was unsettling and upsetting. The following is our experience with Cherish and Geisha. Before we started we had a meet and great where we explained our one dog bites his leash every time he gets a new walker because he tries to play. Geisha who was assigned to us stated she used to be a trainer and understood and could manage it. After three days we were sent notes from Geisha saying it was too hard to walk him and they wanted to do separate walks. Instead of picking up the phone and calling us. Cherish emailed us that the dogs had to be walked separate. I did not want this as they are always together and I felt it may make it worse and would only allow for each to be walked for 15 minutes (we were paying for a 30 minute walk). I was told they would not walk the dogs unless we separated them. Fast forward to week two... two times they didn't check in and didn't bother to inform us the scanner wasn't working. Geisha wrote in the notes that she was "keeping our dog in check". This is verbiage that is not professional and should not be used. It is baffling to me that one would use those words when talking about our animal. Week 3 - My boyfriend and I were both traveling for work and cherish new this. She sends an email saying that they cannot manage the dogs and we need to find another walker. I completely agree we are not a good fit for one another but it's unprofessional to not pick up a phone and speak to someone and she could have waited until I was back in the states. Week 4 (our last week) - neither of us could take off of work so we had to use their services until we found a replacement. All week we received emails stating that our one dog was taken outside to pee and that's it because nothing else could be done because he can't be walked. That they didn't know what was wrong with him. One would think they would pick up the phone or that maybe he wasn't walking because it was 90+ degrees and he was hot. Overall out experience was awful and I will never recommend playful paws. Both girls should learn to pick up the phone and call their customers, should learn to work with their customers on challenges and Geisha should learn how to write professional comments and emails. read more

We are very happy with Playful Paws! We have used them for about two years and they have been great. I work night shift sometimes and have been able to trust them to come in and get Cosmo when I'm sleeping, or when we're not home- they are extremely courteous and always work with us. They are timely and if delayed for some reason, they will communicate with you. Justin (our walker) has also taken Cosmo while we've been away and Cosmo always comes home happy and well taken care of, and we get many photo updates while we are away. Justin is so friendly and great with Cosmo! It's also one of the few companies we found that would allow a flexible walk schedule since I don't work 5 days a week. Ariel from Playful Paws is the best dog walker anyone could ask for. She has taken my dog Lulu out on her walks and has taken care of her for the past few months. The walkers really do love animals and are very understanding and accommodating. I'm a first time puppy mom and had a ton of questions and concerns about setting a schedule for my then 3 month old puppy Ralphie. Amy set me up with Amanda who now walks him regularly. During our meet and greet, Amanda answered all of my questions, had great suggestions and is really sweet. Amy also walks Ralphie usually later in the afternoon and does her best to tire him out- which I appreciate! In addition to awesome walkers is the the app. The app makes it so easy to request a service (I'm only using the 30 min walk right now but they offer a ton of other services). You get alerts when your walker arrives and leaves, they add comments (which I really love) after each walk and let you know if your pup did #1 or 2.
