I left my dog for two week boarding. If I had a car we would have tried a new place. My dog normally stays for three days when boarding and would come home with a limp, blisters on her two front knee cap joints. I provide a bedding so she is not laying on the floor and I doubt it was used. I retrieved my dog yesterday and her ribs and spine bone are sticking out. She's lost nearly 10lbs. She was wearing a coat at the time and noticed her loss of weight when I arrived home. Her feces were dry which signifies she was not getting enough water. When I went to pick her up, I was told she was not eating all the time and she had five cups of food left over. Why was I not informed of her not eating? And why did my dog not eat 5 days worth of kibble? Her glucosemine chew pills were not used. I am trying but would like to put a stop on the credit card charge of over 1,300.00 and report them for abuse. If you value your dog do not use this place. They may be in the midst of shutting down as each time I've ventured there less furniture, supplies are on display. One other note, if the place smells like pee and feces that's your number one red flag on cleanliness. I am so guilt ridden of what I put my dog through. I have been coming here for years and the experience has been great. The owner is always helpful and all of the staff have always been amazing and professional. Daniel has been our groomer for a little over a year now and he does an incredible job. It is hard to get a grooming appointment because they do such incredible work which takes time. I would recommend them to anyone in the area looking for daycare or grooming. I would try to schedule grooming a couple weeks in advance minimum. read more

The only thing I found off putting what the guy at the front desk who was wearing a shirt that said "not f**cking happy" to me that was really unprofessional and off putting. Place is spacious and well equipped with nice treats, toys and accessories for dogs but the smell is awful. Smells like urine that has been mopped over with just water. Definitely need to do a better job cleaning and sanitizing the facility for the dogs. My dog always comes home smelling like he has been rolling around in urine all day. Maybe this is their way to get you to put for a bath before the dog leaves. It's definitely mandatory if you want to keep the urine smell dog out of your car and home. read more

I boarded my two dogs here a couple of times, each time for a week or so and the care seems to be fine. But there was a weird billing inquiry that I want to share. A few weeks after our last boarding, a woman called from K9dergarten and said that we did not pay for the last boarding cost and grooming (on last day of boarding), which was about $800 for two dogs for a week. I looked up my credit card record while I was talking to her on the phone, and told her that my credit card record showed a $800 payment I made to their business on the day we picked up our dogs. She asked me to email the screenshot to her, which I did. Then I never heard back. It looks like their billing/record keeping could definitely use some work, and customer service as well. I don't know how I could prove my payment if I paid cash and didn't keep the receipt. This never happens at any other businesses I frequent, so I want to make sure I share my experience just in case anyone else encounters the same. read more

I'm only rating the retail portion of this establishment as my pup has yet to experience the spa like atmosphere of their back play area. The store has a cute selection of merchandise including food, poop bags, harnesses, leashes, toys, bedding, cards and clothing. Seeing as how we're heading toward cooler weather, I did the responsible mom thing and purchased a much needed orange hoodie form my little girl (her dad is Syracuse alum). At $15, the price is right. As for the services, I took a tour of the play area with self-cleaning grass and downstairs "bedrooms" when the place first opened. I had to finally write a review for one of my favorites in Jersey City. Since moving to JC from Brooklyn, k9dergarten has been one place that has made us feel most welcome and cared for in our new home. My husband and I both work long hours and I cannot say enough how much we appreciate all they have done for our pup, Toby. I wish I could give them 20 stars. I don't feel as bad working late knowing just how cared for Toby is and just how much fun he is having!! As others have said, he literally pulls me to the door every time we go for drop off. Everyone who works there is also the best--I just can't say enough about these folks. We use everything - the daily daycare, drop off, bathing, boutique, late service and will be trying boarding at Christmas. The services they provide for dogs (and parents) are unparalleled as they truly care so much for the needs of pets and pet owners, too. I will say that the drop off has saved my day more times than I can count. I especially love how they post pictures on Facebook right when I always seem to be hitting my rough patch at work and the boutique stocks our fave merrick cans and Puppia stuff, This is a business that clearly has thought about every detail for its clients, both big and small! A dear friend of mine (who doesn't have a Yelp account) brought her 2 small dogs here for a grooming appointment today with Lilly. My friend and I were both horrified upon pickup 5 hours later - consistent with many previous reviews here, both dogs were covered in cuts and dried blood. The staff did not say a word or otherwise acknowledge the dogs' condition: to say the least, an alternative grooming facility would never return dogs to their owners like this. Now, 3 hours later, both dogs are still furiously licking their paws, and their nails have also not stopped bleeding, in addition to the dried blood clots still on their ears and around their genitals - not to mention both dogs are still besides themselves and are clearly traumatized (keeping in mind that almost every dog hates getting groomed, the clear trauma from what happened today is beyond typical behavior). Unfortunately, we see other reviews reflecting identical experiences with not only the facility at large, but this particular groomer, Lilly. K9dergarten needs to be held accountable for their dismal grooming practices. I am also a dog owner and am appalled that K9dergarden is still "grooming" dogs. I had a very unprofessional experience here--I called on 31Jan2023 to ask about walk-ins for nail trimmings. I was told walk-ins are Mondays-Fridays from 12:30-3:00 PM. It was confirmed the groomer would be available the next day for walk-ins. The next day, I came in around 1:15PM to get a nail trimming for my Maltese. I was told that the groomer had left to run errands because their day was slow, and that they would return in 30 minutes. I waited and 30 minutes later, the groomer called to say they would not return for another 45 minutes... I was highly disappointed since this was the closest groomer to me (1 mile away, walking). Instead of waiting a total of 1hr 15min, I went back to work. read more

Andrea is the absolute best groomer. I have a multi-Poo and as people with poodles know this can be a tough cut. I have high expectations and I am that mama that will ask for adjustments when I pick my dog up. I always request for him to look like a teddy bear versus a poodle. I've had nightmare situations with groomers - but Andrea is consistently great. I have never asked her to make changes. I took my 1 year old white schnauzer for his 1st official grooming. My dog is very loud barks a lot to people he doesn't know and can be overwhelming. I've passed tons of grooming salons in NYC but decided to cross the tunnel and give Andria the groomer a chance. When I saw my dog I was in disbelief. I've been bringing my little terrier poodle mix, Ziggy, here since they opened a few years ago. We now have another rescue poodle mix, Rusty, who just started going as well. K9 is wonderful. Professional, one of a kind staff who truly care about the well-being of dogs. They build relationships with them, and ensure your dog (aka child) has a great time. We've brought Ziggy there for as long as a 13 day stay, and they really focused on him and nurtured him when he started to miss us :( They also post pictures on Facebook EVERY DAY so you can see what your dog was up to. Our pups are exhausted at the end of the day (which is fantastic) and learn important dog socialization skills. Since they have each other at home, we only bring them in about once a week and for vacations. But I know plenty of folks who bring their dogs in much more than that. Horrible grooming experience! Unfortunately, we took my dog for grooming to this place. First, the groomer was late 35min so we left. We rescheduled for another groomer Lilly who took 5 hours to cut my dogs hair. When he came out he was pulling to get out of there. I thought it's excitement. Later on, I see he has cuts all over his inner legs. They scratched him by shaving him and didn't even tell me. He was also shaved so hard he is still bleeding and has redness all over ; three days later. My dog is still hurting and itching like crazy. Worst haircut ever. They are very unprofessional; and don't have experienced dog groomers. She was nice, but has done a horrible job. I even tipped her more to be sure she does a good job. Failed completely! Honestly I can't say enough about this place! We brought our dog there for three days for daycare while we were experiencing New York City. From the very first moment the staff were super friendly and obviously very much dog lovers. He was never afraid to go with them and usually would put the leash as we neared the door to drop him off. On his last day there we were able to line up a bath and toe nail clip. We even were able to pick up some of his Merrick food before leaving. Love this place!!! read more

K9 has really gone downhill the last few years. We recently had our dog boarded for 3 nights and was really put off by how disorganized they were upon pick up. When they handed him to us, we told them he had the wrong leash. The handler told us "this is the third time someone messed up the leashes". He was joined by two other employees in looking for his leash and 20 mins later, they still couldn't find it. They realized the harness/leash he was wearing was another dog's that they thought was misplaced and said the other dog that likely was sent home with his leash looked similar to our dog or was the same color as ours--as if dogs looking alike was a valid reason to switch things and let them out the door like that. Unacceptable. So if two dogs look alike, you might mix up their food or meds too? Also, when they gave us his bag that we packed, the "comfort" shirt and toy we packed to keep him company were untouched (meaning he didn't have it with him) and his food bag wasn't returned (likely together with his missing leash?). I'm hoping to speak with a supervisor to address the disorganization and, frankly, unsettling management of personal belongings. I want my dog's leash back, I want to know who the other dog is that they mistakenly let out with our dog's leash because they probably have the leftover food, and want to know what happens to the things we pack for him to have in our absence. read more

This place is kind of a bummer. We brought our dog for am evaluation/to check it out. The store is nice and the branding is attractive, but beyond that the place left much to be desired. They weren't particularly kind about or doting on the dog-- and fair they're around dogs all day, but if they're trying to sell a service based on being interested in my dog and they can't even feint it, what're they like when they're not trying to make a sale? There were about 18 million dogs crammed into two tiny spaces, with some dogs in crates or fenced in just snack in the middle of the dogs running free. EVERYONE was barking. Nonstop. In a way that wasn't about fun or playing, just nonstop barking. I've not experienced anything like this at the other daycares we've used or visited, it was sad! Go and see for yourself, but for my pup, just not somewhere I'd feel settled leaving her. read more

I went to this place for my cat grooming which is very hard to find places that they take cats. My cat hair was horrible since I went on vacation for about month and she didn't get proper hair brush. Her groomer was super sweet and caring while dealing with my cat. I wanted a lion cut and she did a perfect job. I highly recommend this place and will be visiting soon. read more

I used to think that k9dergarten was the best. However -- I've noticed that about half of the time that I drop my dog off for a full day (from opening until close) she is suspiciously missing from photographs. I've called and complained about it and have only gotten shady explanations. My dog is a Camera hog. Be honest if you had to take her off the field. I don't think that it's worth spending $40+ a day to be lied to and have my dog stuffed in some shady spot. Also - she now requires surgery because another dog here was allowed to grab her by the jugular. read more

After waiting around 5 hours, I stopped by and asked if they were done, as my dog walked out of the door I notice he couldn't walk! The gommer said they cut his nails and he was a little hurt. I took him to the vet and the vet said he would never walk propeely, he needs surgery. At K9 they either hold him so hard or he jump out of the table it was negligence! my dog was hurt so bag his ligament was torn. They don't want to pay for surgery! $5,000!!!! read more

Pros: Location (downtown Jersey City), well-appointed facility, good customer service, wide-range of services, relationship with neighboring veterinary clinic. We boarded our dog with K9dergarten for a week and had regular reports and he seemed happy and healthy when we returned. Cons: I like to think of my experience as an isolated one but unfortunately I've come to learn from other dog owners that services at K9dergarten have declined in relationship to the volume of business they are now doing. After an incident involving the loss of and subsequent miscommunication regarding our house key, sending a dog walker we specifically asked not to come because he scares our dog then ultimately, coming home to find our dog frightened and tangled up in his harness after a visit from said walker I've come to the conclusion K9dergarten may be in over their heads. K9dergarten has a lot going for it. I understand things happen and believe in giving businesses second chances. But I can't look past their compromising the security of our home and the comfort of our pet. With that said, we promptly received a refund and sincere apology. read more

Even though the reviews are great, the place is clean, modern and very friendly, I would not recommend this facility for someone who owns an elderly dog. My 14 y.o. Labrador Bella stayed at k9dergarten for 5 days while I was traveling during Thanksgiving. When I called to check up on her on the 4-th day, she seemed to be doing fine. On the 5th day I received concerning call from the manager, who told me Bella was not doing so well, if I could come and get her sooner. I told the soonest I could pick her up was the next evening, since I was out of town. Then I made sure they had contact information of my vet in case of emergency. When I came to pick Bella up the next day, I discovered her in critical condition, unable to move, drink or eat, completely dehydrated with bed sores covering her whole left side. I rushed her to the hospital right away where she spent the night in the incentive care unit under IV fluids, painkillers and antibiotics. But unfortunately that did not save her and she had to be put to sleep the next day. K9dergarten is EXCELLENT ! my husband and I are going away for 3 weeks, and we have two anxious rescue dogs, we've never been away from for any length of time - Thank Goodness K9 opened just in time. My two boys were able to start going there for daycare and thus far they have loved it. They come home smelling like themselves, clean, and they are exhausted !!!!! They have gone since opening day, 5 days a week - and they love it. Even Otis, whose super shy around most people, never goes up to people - he loves Joey, whose one of the managers there. Its a big sign of trust for Otis to voluntarily go up to him and give him kisses. Its a big open and bright place, with happy people and happy dogs. I should have been excited about going on my first ever weekend fishing trip. Only, the weeks leading up to the trip were all stress because the boyfriend and i couldn't seem to find anyone to watch our little Johnnie Black. With a mom nearby who is readily available to help out with anything and everything EXCEPT for dog sitting due to her "fear" of dogs (she stopped responding to my txts as soon as i asked her if she would be able to watch johnnie), a sister and a fellow dog mommy to Hamlet who is the sweetest thing to anyone and anything EXCEPT to other dogs, and a boyfriend who apparently has no friends like myself (facebook friends do NOT count), it appeared that we might have to cancel our trip altogether. then came k9dergarten to the rescue! i fell in love as soon as i checked out the website and the one and only review by Colleen O. was strong enough to get me to trust in their services. i didn't get a chance to tour the facility due to time constraints, but the website provides a lot of information. the staff is super friendly and professional, the environment is very warm and welcoming. they have really cute clothes/accessories for purchase; i couldn't help but buy an adorable white/lime green shirt that says "Go Green" on the back. johnnie has officially become an eco-friendly dog, i am so proud of him! i'm sure this won't be my only purchase from there. also, i really appreciate that they post pictures on their facebook page, and you really get to see what they were up to while you were away. so happy that k9dergarten is doing business in jersey city. love everything about the place! can't wait for their grooming services to start as well! read more

If I could give K9dergarten 9 million stars, I would! To be completely honest with you- my dog is a little high maintenance. To be even more honest with you, I am a little high maintenance. It's no wonder where my baby got it from. I love our dog Owen more than anything in the whole world. I live and breathe for our silly little dog. We were evicted from an apartment because of our dog (the broker lied and said they were accepted, they are not). I would lay down in traffic for our dog. I would stand in front of a firing squad for our dog. Are you getting my point? We used to take Owen to a daycare in Manhattan, and he would shake and cower and try to run past the door every morning. I hated leaving him, fearing that he was just miserable all day long. We moved to Jersey City a few months ago- and we had to find a new daycare. A friend (also nutso about her dog) suggested K9dergarten.... Given our past experience, I was super nervous... In love..... Me- AND the dog- both with K9dergarten!!! He DRAGS me there every morning! He runs to door, and doesn't even look back at me! (sniff) He comes home happy and exhausted from playing all day. He's in better shape than he's ever been before! I trust K9dergarten implicitly, and I do not type these words lightly. Nature did not gift me with the ability to put into words how much I love K9dergarten, but I will make a valiant attempt here. Freya, my big ole husky/shepherd mix, who has an incredible love for people but can be very difficult around other dogs she is not familiar with, has been coming here since pretty much they opened up and I love it. And not only do I love it, she loves, if I walk her by there on weekends she drags me in, I guess needing to say hi to all the amazing peeps who work there. While many places would just isolate a dog like mine, these guys go out of the way to make sure she is engaged, even if its just with the staff - she comes home freaking exhausted....shout out to John for that. The facility is massive and one of the most modern, clean, well lit, safe environments I have seen in dogcare from LA to NYC. The staff is super friendly, loves dogs and most importantly well trained. They do a pickup service every morning and evening that is awesome, if I am not there in the evening they even make sure Freya's water dish is clean and full for her, and the little report cards they leave are hysterical. I also highly recommend Bantika as their groomer, if you have a dog like mine that leaves you buried in hair, she is awesome, fav days are the ones following a good grooming of Freya, as the apt stays relatively clean for awhile. If you are in the JC area and love your dog totally take advantage of these guys. read more

We use K9dergarten for everything - walking, day care, grooming, boarding and shopping. All of their services have more than exceeded expectations. They really take the time to check in and let you know how your dog did. They treat my dog like one of their own, and I love that I can check their Facebook page throughout the day to see pics of my dog and how her day is going when she's at daycare. My pooch LOOVES K9dergarden. The regular staff knows my pup by name when we walk in the door even if we haven't been there in months. My dog loves it so much, she literally tries to pull me across the street to go there anytime we go for a walk near K9. She goes in tail wagging, sooo happy to play with all the dogs here. I like that they do temperament tests on dogs before they allow them to stay. This gives me peace of mind knowing that my dog won't get attacked by an out of control dog. I have visited other places in the area (such as Boca Play N Stay) and was horrified to see the way the dogs are kept in crates piled on top of one another like at Costco. How the dogs have no supervision and they are in an old factory with concrete floors and the barking echoes in there and it sounds and looks like a very sad dog shelter. I cried when I left Boca thinking there is NO way I would let my baby stay here! We found K9 and couldn't be happier. Anytime we go away, it's well worth the $ to have our girl stay here and knowing she's on her own little vacation herself at K9! Thank you for taking such good care of our baby. read more

The staff is knowledgeable and caring, the facility is large and clean, and my dog adores going there to play with her friends. :) What I truly love about K9dergarten is the fact that people living in the downtown JC area have a convenient and reliable way to properly care for their dogs. There is really no way that my husband and I would've been able to adopt our rescue pup without having K9dergarten in the area. Like many around here, we don't have a yard right now, and we work outside of JC and rely on public transportation (which can be very unreliable). We utilize K9dergarten's daycare service which is great exercise and socialization for our dog (she is POOPED when she comes home). They will post pics of all the pups in daycare on Facebook daily, and I immediately stalk and "like" all the ones that my dog is in because she is friggin adorable. We also use dog walking services on non-daycare days. The dog walkers are so sweet, they leave us notes from the day, and will cater to any little detail you request (leave a light on, give her a chew toy before you leave, etc.). Additionally we use them for grooming and dog training (Beverly is awesome). It's also nice to meet and chat with other dog owners in the area. We've met some very lovely people there who are equally as obsessed with their dog as we are with ours. I often get strange looks from my dog-less friends when I discuss my pup, but the K9dergarten crew makes me feel not as freakish. My dog literally runs to the door like a sled dog and jumps for joy to greet the staff when we go. It makes me very pleased to know my furry child is happy and in good hands! read more

At K9dergarten, they KNOW dogs and they LOVE dogs. The huge facility is clean and well-maintained, but more importantly they have plenty of well-trained staff on duty. I've seen specialists on the playing field stop a potential fight without saying a word, and I've seen them keeping an equal eye on dogs on the perimeter, not just the "fun" ones running and playing in the pack. We couldn't be happier with the care and love our little guy gets there, and he isn't always easy. Since he can get over-stimulated, staff goes out of their way to make sure he gets enough down time BEFORE problems can begin. And if there are problems? They calmly and effectively take care of it. I wouldn't hesitate to use any of the services they provide, and both the specialists and management make time to discuss any concerns you might have. I have two rescue dogs that can be quite a handful but I love them like they are my children. Due to work logistics it is necessary for me to leave both my "boys" at k9dergarden every day, five days a week while I go to work. I wish I could describe the amount of trust and confidence I have with the awesome staff at k9. My dogs happily arrive every day and when they leave at night they often give "kisses" to whichever staff member brings them out to me. I've been away on work, vacations etc. and I am constantly kept informed on how my guys are doing and each time when I return they are happy, healthy and look as good...no probably better...than when I left them. I can not recommend the staff and facility enough, they are a group of caring dedicated animal lovers and I for one consider myself lucky to have them in my neighborhood in JC. I'm an overprotective mom with a special needs dog. I have used their walking service, day care and overnight care and I thought they were all great. What really makes them so amazing is their customer care. Everyone there is so nice and loving towards my dog. They ask important questions even if I forget to give them the details. And never get an attitude if ask to many questions. The walker even leaves a note to say if she peed or pooped. We enrolled our little guy at K9dergarten because we wanted to try somewhere close to our home as we were travelling quite a ways for boarding/day care. We are so happy that we did! The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. When we first enrolled him, we were asked to bring him by for a day of play so that they could see how he interacts with other dogs. We received a status call to let us know how he's doing. That was fantastic. We reserved a weekend visit right afterward, and when he came home he was happy and tired - just the way we like him! We had an appointment with Andrea; after showing up early and waiting 30min past our appointment time, we decided to leave. The lady behind the counter talked us out of using Andrea (said she wasn't very detailed, which I though my was odd, for one co-worker to speak poorly about another co-worker) and instead to go with Lilly on another day, who she claimed was "trained" by Ingrid. So my wife goes back a few days later...again she shows up early, and again has to wait almost 30 minutes for the groomer to arrive. And we she finally got the call to pick up the dog, she got there and had to wait AGAIN for almost another 50 minutes as he wasn't done! Now, because of COVID we were a little behind in getting our dog groomed, and figured he would have to be pretty much shaved as he was matted in a few places. However, upon getting home, we noticed he had several cuts and gouges, especially in "sensitive" areas and his back-side that were bleeding. I adore K9dergarten! I am a private dog trainer in Jersey City, and for my clients with puppies, I frequently recommend they attend the free Thursday evening puppy play group. It's an excellent way to socialize a puppy in a situation where you know the puppies involved have been, temperament tested and properly vaccinated. You simply cannot get those features at a dog park. K9dergarten has done an excellent job working with my quite elderly (11.5 year old) Aussie, Karma. She has enjoyed both boarding and grooming at their facility. The boarding experience could not have been better! They communicated with me constantly, providing updates on her health and behavior. An added bonus was that, I "liked" their Facebook page, so I was able to get pictures of her playing and hanging out, during the entire time I was on my trip. Karma is such a major part of my life, and they certainly cared for her as a genuine family member. I really appreciate this small business! I only wish there were more caring, excellent communicating organizations in this world. read more

Despite my pup being a meany towards other dogs he was treated well and taken care of. My Beloved Buddy came back like a new dog. He is acting more well behaved. They take good care of my 3 dogs. They always seem happy when they're leaving. One dog, she never wants to go home after. Even though my dogs don't mingle with the other dogs, k9 told me they still go out to play every other hour by themselves. read more
