We stopped by on a Monday with a party of six, all adults. The drinks were huge mugs of beer and big fishbowl sized margarita glasses, which endeared this place to us immediately. We started with the famous tableside guacamole, which was good, nothing to write home about but good. Between the chips and salsa, guacamole and giant beers we stayed pretty entertained until the entrees arrived. I had the Fish Tacos, which were very well done. The fish was deep fried with a good texture (not overcooked at all) and the sauce was a sweet/spicy honey chipotle that paired well with the fish. Overall a good, relatively inexpensive and quick meal for the start of our vacation. Nothing really makes this place stand out from a chain mexican restaurant, but it was a good value and the food was well done and tasty. read more

Awesome restaurant! Great service and tasty selection of margaritas! Great quality chicken tenders and fries for the kiddos, I had the pineapple grilled and stuffed with peppers onions steak and chicken. It was an amazing dinner and I strongly suggest it! Had dinner there on a Friday night with a table for 7. We were sat on 10 minutes which is always positive during the busy season. The food was delicious and cooked very well, had the chicken and shrimp fajitas, shrimp was cooked to perfection and the chicken was tender and moist. The rice beans and pico was before average. My dish came out wrong and our dinner wasn't delivered to the table together, the dishes just can't out in no particular order or thought. We were excited to try this restaurant, as we heard great things about it. The food was good and we liked the menu selections. BUT what ruined it for us was when we got home within 30 minutes......5 out of the 9 in our group had instant tummy troubles, that lasted for a while throughout the night. I am not a big Mexican food person, my family is; however this place could make me rethink that. I came on a Tuesday and they have $1 chicken or beef tacos. I had the tacos del Puerto- shrimp, cilantro, tomato and a lobster bisque with some amazing rice and beans. Extremely flavorful. We also got the Burrito San Jose, that thing could feed 3 people! This was a great pit stop after spending the day at the beach. It was in a convenient location and the service was friendly. We received our food so fast and our party was pretty big!! I got a combination platter, nothing too exciting. The prices were average and the food was pretty much the same as the Plaza Azteca I visit in Virginia. Was pleasantly surprised with this one! My family and I stumbled on this place on a whim, and we were not disappointed. We have been vacationing here for years and never have given it a try. It was a huge disappointment. We had a party of nine and we had big expectations.... the food wasn't good, the guacamole really expensive, the place it's really average, but the server was awesome (Victoria)... the big disappointment was THE MANAGER. It was 9:40pm and he start to do everything to kick us out of the restaurant, moving the tables to clean them, turning tv's off, etc... Don't understand why only 3 stars?! The food is really great, amazing drinks and great staff. My go to pre game spot. Bar is secluded in the middle and the sit down family area are on either side of the bar. Only thing I don't like is they close too early! Awesome awesome awesome spot. read more

While down here on vacation we sampled a lot of the local resturaunts and this was by far the best! 20 minute wait to sit at a booth but the staff asked several times if they could sit us either at the bar or at a table immediately. Our waiter was really fast and friendly, brought waters without being asked, and he was well informed of specials and drinks. Stopped here for dinner the last night in Nags Head because there is one where we are from. Really wished my husband and I brought our 16 month old some where better to eat. High chair was broken and that doesn't help an agitated 16 month old. Ordered table side guacamole. Waited 20 plus minutes and only made after the server told maker we were waiting. An additional 30 minutes we finally received our food after I was agitated enough to bring attention to our table. Don't stop here unless you want to be held hostage for 2 hours at a restaurant that would normally take 30 minutes to get in and out. Service was horrible but food was good. Took forever to get the food, four of the 12 orders were just wrong, and several came out cold. The manager was the one who brought the food. When told some orders were incorrect he actually argued with us claiming we did order what was delivered. When further challenged, he says "whatever" and walks off. Ugh, I wish this place would get their act together because I'm addicted to their shrimp and potato enchiladas. That dish is the ONE reason I would ever step foot in this place more than once. The service is so incredibly slow and lacking, that even if they are friendly (which sometimes they are not), it doesn't help. Our latest visit had us sitting 10 minutes before anybody even came for our drink order or to deliver chips. We've had staff in the past be downright rude, and a lot of the time they are just confused and make many mistakes. We've received drinks made wrong, drinks never even delivered, orders made wrong, side items never brought to the table, not being told they were out of something until all other dishes were delivered to the table (meaning that person sat with NO food until their replacement was cooked), and errors on the bill. The amount of gaffes usually just make for a frustrating and awkward experience. Definitely not worth the headache to eat here regularly. But once in a blue moon when my craving for those darn enchiladas rears its ugly head.... I have to suck it up and risk the headache of slow, incompetent service and get my fix! Only to be reminded why we don't go here, and wait months and months before I attempt it again. read more

Worst service I have ever had at a plaza Azteca ever! Not busy but several workers passed by us without greeting or seating us. Took 10 mins + to get seated then another 10 just to get chips. Waitress did not want to take our order and it was at least 20 mins before she came to take our food order. They were not busy as it was 4pm and not dinner hour yet. I had to ask another server who seemed attentive to his tables for more chips as we had still been unable to order food. To top it off their restroom was a cesspool of sewage. read more

Sad. We had a group of 15, for a birthday celebration. Of 15 meals 3 meals were correct. I had shrimp fajitas- they had STEAK in them. Folks asking for Guacamole on the side, it was on their meal. Then, 3 kids meals were not just wrong, but NEVER SERVED. With all our options, little was done to appease us. Our reservations were at 6:30, we did not get all the complete meals until after 8:30pm. It was a complete mess. Maybe good if you have a small party, but we all left extremely disappointed. Totally ruined our surprise birthday dinner. read more
