Coming from the West Coast and being stationed in North Carolina before I was a little hesitant to get excited about this place. I was wrong. While it's definitely not the best Mexican fast food I've ever had, it was really good actually, and I'm pretty sure I can work with them!! Lol If you're looking for something authentic and quick this is definitely your best bet around here, or you can go to Taco Bell HAHAHA... but seriously if you communicate with them and tweak it a bit it's really good.... I truly think the lack of spice etc... is due to the amount of older Caucasian and Northern folks in the area. (I am a white guy from Las Vegas BTW) They are definitely playing to their primary customers; but definitely don't be afraid to ask them to amp it up a little bit and you should be just fine! read more

We were looking for a place for a light lunch and decided to try Viva. This was our first visit. I was pleasantly surprised at what we found. We probably did not test the strength of their menu; fish tacos and shrimp tacos, so will save that for next time. I was drawn by two posted non-menu items, chorizo tacos and chile verde pork. I chose the pork which was served as a burrito, so I asked it not to be in the tortilla. I found it a bit Tex-Mex for my taste, with a fair amount of cumin but the pork was very tender and with the black beans it really was pretty good. Ms T went for ground beef tacos which were served on good quality soft flour tortillas. We understand the gringo nature of ground beef here, but this was seasoned very nicely with visible red chile. I can see return visits for seafood tacos and I will certainly try chorizo tacos if they have them next time. Hopefully they have corn tortillas. This is really a burrito place. They dominate the menu, so the influence is really the American Southwest, Sonora and Chihuahua, but I will avoid the burritos as I always do. read more

One of the few places open for dinner in January. If we hadn't visited on our last night we would've definitely been back again before the week was up. The two ladies seemed to have a lot of pride in their food! Chipotle chicken flavor was AMAZING and the food was cooked to order, fresh and Hot! The only reason I gave it a four and not a five was because with only one other group in restaurant it was very loud, and thus a TV or music or some type of a background noise would have made it more pleasurable. read more

I like the decor. The menu selection is good. The 3 tacos in a dinner is a little more than I needed, but I believe there are choices with fewer. Will try that next time. I liked this place and my family liked it as well. It's a hidden gem in this morrisville area. read more

SOOOOOO DELICIOUS!!! I have spent LOTS of time in Mexico, lived in Southern California & am VERY picky about what I eat...so many places 'claim' to be authentic or 'fresh', VIVA! truly is! Who would have thought that in the middle of the Outer Banks, NC you would find 'comida TAN rico!'?! I certainly didn't, but what an awesome surprise! Super yummy! Viva! Ok so the food was pretty good but very expensive and they didn't give very big portions 8.99$ for a small plate of nachos the sides were expensive and they barely give you any chips that come with the cheese dip or salsa all in all the food was decent but everything thing else sucked read more

the food was very generic and not authentic. they charge for salsa and sour cream which is abnormal. the vegetables in my quesadilla were undercooked and crunchy. if you want some thing quick go here. if you want real mexican, go elsewhere. read more

A nice nook in the OBX for some nice authentic Mexican food. I enjoyed the chicken taco salad bowl but there was definitely too much lettuce in the bottom of it. My friends enjoyed the soft tacos but it wasn't super amazing. The price was definitely reasonable for the experience and taste. read more

You know when you go to a Mexican joint that advertises that it's "authentic" mexican food but yet you get the same thing that's on every other menu at any other mexican place? Viva is a breath of fresh air, while it does offer dishes most Americans would be familiar with, everything is made-to-order and tastes fresh and crafted by people who know what they're doing. I ordered the fish tacos, and while they were very good, the amount of fish that was in the tacos was lacking. That was my biggest complaint. Prices were great, the staff was friendly, and it seemed like this was a spot a lot of locals hit up as there was a constant stream of takeout orders coming through. Service was quick as well. If you're down in the Nags Head area this is a good place to hit up for lunch. read more

Came in at around noon and ordered 2 chicken tacos. They came out fast, but we're inedible. Chicken was so dry I could barely swallow it. Ended up just eating the lettuce and tortilla shell. The restaurant was empty so I'm assuming they just threw the chicken in the microwave so they wouldn't have to cook. There are better Mexican restaurants so I advise staying away from this one. read more

Not a bad place for your OBX Mexican fix. Food is tasty, place is clean, staff is friendly. For those who have eaten at Moe's, the burritos are a bit smaller, but still good. Ingredients are just as fresh. They could definitely stand to give you more chips with your order. I think they gave me like 12. Overall, a good experience and would recommend. We are here in the offseason, but even so, I was surprised to find few customers here on a Saturday at lunch time. The service was pleasant and efficient, there were a lot of good, fresh-looking choices, and it was very clean. My husband's chicken taco salad was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The tortilla basket was fresh and crisp. My chili verde burrito had the perfect balance of meat and filling, fresh cilantro, and delicious sauce. The queso was just the right consistency and very flavorful. I would eat there again anytime! read more

I love Viva. It's my favorite to get take-out when I'm on the northern Outer Banks. I'm not sure how "authentic" it is, as tex-mex joints can be all over the place, but that doesn't really matter. The food hits the spot and isn't terribly expensive. It does the job. read more

My friend and I were driving through and were in the mood for Mexican for lunch. It's Sunday, though, so other places didn't open until noon. Thankfully this place opened at 11! Casual order-at-the-counter eatery, fresh cooked. American style tacos & burritos, IE the tacos have cheese & sour cream by default, but they easily made mine without. I had fish tacos and the fish was fresh grilled. Hubbie had a satisfying chicken burrito with beans & rice built in. They also make salad versions. Quick, easy and reasonably priced, we might eat here again on this trip. GF note: the tacos have soft flour tortillas by default, be sure to ask for corn which I think is a shell. read more

Wow! This place may look like just a hole in the wall, in a strip mall but this is a must try. The atmosphere is laid back, there isn't to many tables and this may not be the place to have a sit down family dinner. The food is definitely the star here! I ordered a chicken and steak burrito with the chipolte sauce, and it was hands down one of the burritos I've ever had. The chicken and steak were so tender, flavorful and the perfect mix with the chipolte sauce. I will definitely be back to Viva! To try some of there other cuisine.
