So glad we tried Plaza Azteca Complimentary Warm tortilla chips & salsa were a yummy starter! Large menu with a great variety of menu choices. I had the Carnitas. Large chunks of Pork confit , flash heated in a very hot skillet (I'm guessing) to make the exterior a lot crispy!!!! It'll be hard for me to order any other item on future visits. We were at Ross Park Mall and decided to try the new Mexican restaurant. Waitress had trouble understanding what I was asking for. I had the Santa Fe Salad and asked for no poblano peppers but, I wanted the red peppers. I did not get any peppers. She came back will I was in the restroom and told my husband I didn't pick what meat I wanted. Mine didn't come with a protein choice. Food was not that great. Not a lot of flavor. My husband had Seafood Enchiladas and it was supposed to be shrimp and crab. He couldn't see the crab. He said they were not that tasty. When the bill arrived, I was charged for chicken that I did not receive. They did take it off the bill. I'm Overall, this is the worst mexican restaurant we've been to and we will not be returning. My family went out to dinner last night and enjoyed a delicious Mexican meal! I had the Pollo Patron which was grilled chicken, veggies, rice with a light cheese sauce. It came with flour tortillas but I didn't eat them. My husband had steak tacos with beans and rice and our daughter had a chicken finger meal with rice. There are 3 things it takes for me to like a good Mexican food restaurant: good Margaritas, homey cheese and meat filled dishes and fast service. Plaza Azteca serves up all of these in excess. The moment you arrive you are greeted with a cozy Mayan carving filled atmosphere with date night level lighting. My wife enjoyed the Mexican Sunset, a hibiscus margarita and I had the Texas Style margarita, both of which were delicious. They were both large double shot drinks which were well worth the cost. For dinner, I had the rib-eye tacos and my wife had the enchilada suizas. The tacos had a nice kick to them and a verde sauce to put on top. The enchiladas were covered in a delicious tomatillo crema I expect in such a dish. As usual, portion sizes were more than generous and we had barely had time to touch the complimentary chips and house made salsa before our dinner arrived. It made for a delicious and enjoyable evening out and we will assuredly return. read more

Plaza Azteca in Robinson is one of the more authentic Mexican restaurants we've tried. Everything we tried was delicious. Our meal started with chips and salsa. The salsa was excellent--fresh with a slightly smoky flavor. Prices were reasonable, making it a good value. My wife had the Carnitas Enchiladas and really enjoyed them. My son ordered the Burrito San Jose, filled with chicken and chorizo. The chicken was flavorful and moist, which isn't always the case with burritos. The staff was friendly, adding to the experience. I was out shopping by myself so I got to pick lunch! I sat at the bar. It wasn't crowded but definitely busy. Eveyone seemed to know their role and worked together well. I had chips with choriqueso and salsa with my marg. The marg was fresh and not just a sour mix! The food came came out super fast. I had Burria tacos for the first time. They were soooooo delicious. Chips are warm and the salsa was deliciously spicy! For lunch, I ordered one of the combos, burrito, taco and rice with shredded chicken. Portion was huge for lunch, chicken was very good and the red sauce on the burrito was great. My partner ordered the burrito San Jose (chicken and chorizo) and subbed with the shredded chicken for grilled chicken. This was good, but a bit salty for our taste. It could have been our fault by subbing the shredded chicken plus chorizo which is naturally salty. Again huge portion! We did not experience the service issues others did. Service was speedy and our drinks and chips/salsa were always filled. Would definitely come out here again, better than patron, on par with the Emiliano's down the street from us in the city. read more

I love when Mexican restaurants start out with chips and salsa at the table! The salsa was a great restaurant style salsa. There were a lot of margarita options but they had an odd taste, which was hard to place. I got the build your own combo with one hard corn and one soft flour tortilla taco shells with shredded chicken. The tacos were great but not much on the taco other than the filling, lettuce, and cheese. I swapped out the beans and rice for more lettuce and guacamole because the table side guacamole looked so good! My fellow luncher had a taco salad, which was quite soupy. Plaza Azteca is one of the more fun Mexican restaurants in Pittsburgh with a fun inside, nice bar, tvs, fireplaces, etc. They had a unique salsa. For my main meal I split the molcajete with the wife. Let me start by saying that I grew up frequently visiting various parts of Texas enjoying fine Tex-mex and Mexican foods. I had high hopes for Azteca based on what I had heard. I went in with the same expectations that I have with any Pittsburgh Mexican restaurant. "There's no way it can compare to Texas." We were seated promptly. It's a Monday night, no surprise there. We are one of the few couples seated on this side of the restaurant. We are brought chips and salsa and our drink order taken. First, the chips are thin and fantastic. They do seriously lack salt however they are likely one of the best chips I've had in Pittsburgh. The salsa was rather average. Based on the chips and the "table side" guacamole I was getting a little excited as I browsed the menu. We ordered the table side guacamole. True to form the avocado was halved and cut right there. The server asked our spice level and preferences on cilantro, lime, tomato, and onion. The guacamole being fresh was rather solid. It was under seasoned and everything but the avocado was prepared beforehand. Then we get to the meal. Combo Fajitas with flour tortillas and a combo meal of two beef tacos in a corn tortilla with rice and beans. The rice was dry. The meat was under seasoned and greasy. The tortillas were literally from the grocery store. It amazes me anytime a Mexican restaurant serves anything but homemade tortillas. In Texas, everywhere you go, even "fast casual" restaurants have a form of fresh tortillas. There's a huge difference. Overall it's an average Mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh.
