I've been wanting to try this place for quite a while. We went in the Saturday night of the Draft weekend. I was surprised that we walked right in and got immediately seated. We sat for a long time actually waiting for a server to come speak with us and get our drink order. So long, despite not being a full place, that I told my wife I wanted to get up and leave. I was very, very frustrated. I had been glancing at their menu on Yelp and saw some tacos that I wanted to try, unfortunately the restaurant cut their menu back to only five tacos to choose from. I'm guessing to simplify things for the Draft crowd that they anticipated coming. Our server finally came to take our drink order and after so long we knew what we wanted. The server wasn't exactly friendly or attentive. We started with street corn as an appetizer, it was awesome. My wife had the chicken tacos and didn't like them. She said they were mushy and had an off flavor that she didn't enjoy. I had the birria tacos. They were not bad, they didn't come with any sauce/juice as all the other birria tacos I've ever had typically come with. I have to say, I was disappointed in the menu being reduced and other than the street corn app., just wasn't impressed. The service was not good, my wife's taco were bad and my were okay. I'll not be rushing back unfortunately.

Cool intimate atmosphere and a great late happy hour that starts at 8pm during the week! Pick a taco, dip and a margarita and have a great evening.

Wife and I were looking for a nice pre-show meal in downtown and we lucked into a wonderful patio experience at TAKO (seriously, this place is hopping so make reservations or get there early!). After our waitress seated us in their street "occupying" enclosed patio, we made sure to start off with some guacamole and house made tortilla chips. The guac had a nice lime note with good salt level. Very mild but fresh. Afterwards we both ordered tacos of course! I had the Carnitas and my wife had the Maitake Muchrooms. The carnitas was spicy and juicy and the Maitakes were full of body with a tangy cabbage slaw and a spicy aioli. The waitress stayed attentive despite the rush and food arrived at appropriate intervals (guac came out quickly with time to eat before our taco entrees). We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will definitely go back, maybe with a bit more planning ahead of time!

Came by again after 3 years. Not as busy as before, but that may be because I went there at 5 pm when they just opened. The inside is the same - dark and moody for the ambiance. The decor is unique and fun. Why come back? Specifically for the Täkō Taco. We ordered 4 of them and two others to try. The Tako Taco is still the best. The flavor and crunch is really enticing and addicting. Besides Mexico, I cannot think of a place that has a better taco in Pennsylvania or Maryland. Service is great. They constantly came by to check on us and it was speedy when we were here. I didn't really like their bathroom placement in the restaurant as it opens up towards the tables.

Tako opened up several years ago and we never got to try it before moving. After hearing from someone that Tako is the best restaurant ever I decided to pop in while visiting Pittsburgh on business. Ambiance is sort of night club dining vibes. Music isn't too too loud but there is music playing. Lights are off. It's a pretty dark restaurant. We got seated at a high top. I couldn't tell if there were regular tables elsewhere. Kind of wished I'd gotten a regular table. Menu is nice and I like the options. I got Al pastor tacos and they were pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but I am spoiled and have been to San Diego a bunch and get really good tacos out there often. The queso was really yummy as well. Definitely worth a try One thing I did not like was how CLOSE the tables are to Each other. During the entire meal the waitresses had to stand in between our table and the other one to take our neighbors orders and was basically touching me and her hair/ponytail was dragging allll over our high top table and into our plates - seriously off putting. Luckily we noticed and were able to move our plates out of the way... but the table was tiny so we basically just had to hold our plates up and out of the way until she left. Really weird and probably not sanitary. Not a big deal to me but just kinda weird. So I give 4 stars. Food was good!

Went to Tako in Pittsburgh and it did not disappoint! My husband is a big mezcal fan, and their mezcal cocktails were right up his alley -- super smooth, creative, and well balanced. We tried a few tacos and honestly, the tako (octopus) and the carnitas were the standouts, packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. We also gave the Korean tacos a shot; they were good, but the other two really stole the show. Cool spot, great energy, and awesome drinks + tacos combo. Definitely a place we'll come back to whenever we're in town!

Saturday night. 6 people. No worries, space in the outside eatery. Inside, eclectic decor. Music bumping! Super chic. Friendly staff and they were working hard. Eating outside lost a little of the charm as you aren't in the cool decor but the same music was bumping (think some 90's classics. My 14 year old was disgusted when Britney Spears came on but I was thrilled.) Chips and salsa- decent size. Offering 3 salsas: awesome in theory but one had no flavor, one was too sweet and one too spicy. No good baseline. My bistek tacos while looked amazing and chock full of meat fell really flat in flavor. I stole a piece of lime off my friends plate and added that to the tacos but it still needed salt. It still didn't 100% taste just right. Needs a heavier hand with seasoning. The queso fundido was good.

Seated via Yelp Reservations Food & Drink: 3.5 / 5 - Mixed drinks: Not too strong on the alcohol; blended pretty well. Unfortunately, had to have a substitute for the El Jefe because they were out of Don Julio 1942. They also didn't have the Frozen Pineapple Upside Daiquiri available, so was unable to try that. I contribute this to it being the end of a week and wouldn't recommend going on a Sunday, which I rarely do for most restaurants due to that reason. - Food: Snack - Pork Belly Steamed Bun: - Not a fan of fermented cucumbers, but the combination made the dish as a whole delicious. Appetizer - Fried Brussel Sprouts: - Even though I am of the firm belief that not everything in the world needs to be "fried", these were delicious. However, that is more due to the combination of the dish itself, which made up for the slightly charred Brussel Sprouts. Main Entree - Chorizo tacos: - Definitely have a bit of a kick, but they make sure that each taco is loaded enough that makes it well worth the price. Dessert - Churro: - It's a Churro...delicious, but exactly what you expect. The sauce combination provided enhances the flavor and the churro itself breaks apart perfectly for dipping. Service: 5 / 5 - No complaints. Waitress was very attentive and made sure to check in periodically. Very knowledgeable as well and was able to answer all my questions. Vibe: 3 / 5 - Tables are really close together, which I am not a fan of, but understand because of the size of the place. However, the whole tinted lighting experience is alright. It is trendy and gives it a "fancy romantic vibe", but I am indifferent to that aspect. Although, I understand that you have to make yourself "unique" in this industry. Overall: 3.5 / 5 - From the moment you walk in through the commercial style freezer door to the moment you sit down, Täkō ensures a unique experience with the atmosphere itself. The service was perfect for me with no complaints at all and the food experience overall was satisfactory. They offered a 4 course meal at the time, which I happily partook in and believe it was well worth the price. Definitely will return and try other items on the menu, but I would not recommend going on a Sunday if you enjoy mixed drinks as there my be a lot of substitutes. Recommend? Yes

My favorite place in Pittsburgh. The aesthetic is always on point, the food is delicious, and I love trying their new cocktails every time. It's one of those spots I always bring friends to when they're visiting from out of town, and it never disappoints. Servers are always really attentive too!

Täkō is such a good time. We stopped in for my birthday dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. The tacos are really good but hands down the best thing on the menu is the queso fundido which is served with warm tortillas. Papas bravas are also fantastic. And the churros are mouth watering!! Very loud and very dark so not for the faint of heart.

Food was fabulous. Had the Korean BBQ tacos and the fish tacos with an order of the queso to begin. 2 med spicy margaritas were perfect! Service was great. Nice vibe. We sat at the bar.

Is the big board still available?

Hey Amber, Unfortunately no the big board of tacos is not currently on the menu.

Does the restaurant still have igloo dining outside?

    Yes, 2 hour limit

Do you have any vegan options?

Yes! The maitake mushroom tacos can be made vegan and they are delicious. I believe they remove the crema and sub the tortillas for corn tortillas to make them vegan!

Hi Harry! Yes we have outdoor seating. I would recommend calling Takos reservation line to ensure your sat outside. There are currently no heaters on the patio.

I went in the later noon super casual but t definitely can be dressier at night night. Great date night spot

Can I purchase a gift card for your restaurant?

Yes - I've gotten them as anniversary gifts!

Would I need to make a reservation for 3 on a Saturday night? Or is it safe to go early without a reservation?

Do you have gluten free/dairy free options?

The majority of our menu can be prepared gluten free substituting corn shells for our standard flour shells. Most other items can be modified to accommodate dietary restrictions.

Are the prices on the menu online per taco? TIA.

    Prices are for 2 tacos.

So I tried to make a reservation for Thursday round 5 when it opens. If none are available does that mean it will be booked solid? Or can I just go at 5 and expect a small wait?

They book all tables, but you can grab a seat at the bar which is the only open seating there.

We're is best place to park?

The 6th and Penn garage, which has an entrance on Penn Ave. If it's not a night with shows tonight you can try your luck with street parking or go with their valet when available.

Did the prices recently go up here & did they change the menu, or is it just me?

    Yes to both :(

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

We celebrated our 10yr anniversary here for dinner & it was definitely worth it. Unblemished ambiance & service. We were at the restaurant side- very chic & intimate. They have a casual tavern area along the bar on the other side. And an upstairs section. When you look up, there's an entire wall of huge wine selection. For cocktails we had the Cosmopolitan & Strawberry Smash-- both prepared great! Cosmos are usually a hit/miss situation for me; this was really good though- not too tart nor sweet-- very well balanced w/ a mild hint of vodka coming through, which after a few sips hits you in a nice, soft way. Husb said the Strawberry Smash was bangin!!-- the sibona amaro in it stabilized the fruitiness of the drink. For apps, we ordered the Calamari- it was soooo good & crispy/crunchy, I had to prevent myself from stuffing everything in my mouth! I was a bit sad I had to share this w/ my husb lol. It came with a hot & sour sauce w/ lemon which overall made the dish unique. For entree, I had the Scottish Salmon, came w/ scallops & I added crab cake to it. Succulent salmon was seared w/ great flavor, the sweet corn & pepper mixed in a tomato vinaigrette on the side under the scallops was just unbelievable. The crab cake was cut squared, hands down one of the best cakes. The flavor profile for the entire dish together in a bite was incomparable!! Definitely order this. Husb ordered the Gerber Farms Chicken, amish chicken served w/ risotto, greens on top of thyme jus (akin to a thin gravy). The chicken was cooked well-- juicy on the inside & a nice roast on the outside; the risotto wasnt heavy & didn't weigh the meal down, the thyme jus's flavor was subtle & it elevated the entire dish. For dessert, we got the Chocolate Hazelnut tart & Eleven Candy bar. I legit relished & inhaled the tart despite already being so full. Husb loved the Candy bar. A huge slice of brownie/caramel candy bar w/ chocolate mousse phew! The pics explain how mindblowin' everything was! A real one-of-a kind experience. Ron was great in explaining everything too. My experiences have not been high-end, perhaps more "tinfoil" than sapphire, to say the least....see below. That being said, it's proven to be a very middling experience each time, especially from a service standpoint. Each time has had mysterious delayed times to get waited upon, receive food and drinks, and every time has featured a mysterious disappearing item that we had to politely "remind" the server about after receiving the bill. On this occasion, we were offered to still receive a missing drink even though it was incredibly clear that we were ready to leave. One time, sure, but all three visits have had issues. This time, when the final bill was corrected, the math didn't seem to make sense - removing a $14 drink and the total came out $5 less. I'm being candid in saying instead of even dealing with the server once more, their tip corrected the discrepancy - no issues in dealing with the situation in that manner, given the sub-par service. Unacceptable and frustrating to have 3/3 times experiencing significant service issues. Food-wise, it's a solid "4" rating - salads have all been great, the dishes we'd recommend are the black cod and the short ribs. Good selection of semi-local beer and extensive wine list. It was noted that the menu had "changed" with the season, but the overall menu was 80% the same with some very subtle modifications - all over a two-year period. First time we went here, we sat at the tables above the bar area, and unfortunately there was a very bar-like smell that could be experienced throughout the meal (imagine having fine dining at the Rock Room on Polish Hill) - thankfully these other two times have been in the main dining area, on nights that haven't been very busy (adding to the frustration regarding the service notes above). Honestly, this is a legacy restaurant here in Pittsburgh, it's a shame that newer places with great food + service have a hard time launching in this environment.

It serves wood-fired cuisine that uses locally raised meats, house-made pasta, and seasonal vegetables. Currently, during the winter, examples of menu items are small plates (e.g., roasted beet salad and heirloom carrots), mid courses (e.g., linguine and blue-bay mussels), large plates (e.g., sesame soy-glazed eggplant, pork chop, and picanha), desserts (e.g., pistachio cake and Kahlua fudge brownie), and alcoholic beverages (e.g., cocktails, mocktails, wines, and beers). For my husband and me, I made a reservation for dinner through the Resy website. I chose from options of the dining room, a four-season patio with awnings and heaters, and a chef's counter with a view of the kitchen. Please note that although the foods are upscale, the dress code seems to be smart casual. We parked our vehicle in a lot a short walk away. Upon our arrival to the restaurant, a seating hostess promptly greeted and seated us. Our server provided courteous and attentive service, such as taking our order and bringing our foods on time, refilling our waters, and cleaning my crumbs. We started with a Crab Cake with decent amount of crab meat, mushroom duxelles, tasty truffle aioli, and a side of arugula salad. My main course was Branzino with sides of beans-vegetables and parmesan cornbread. My husband's main course was Duck Breast with a blood-orange demi-glace, asparagus, and potatoes. I thought that everything tasted very good. The total price was $96 plus tax, 3% credit-card surcharge, and tip.

Here's what we ordered: 1. Duck toast - get it. It's great. Milk bread with duck. Solid. Two slices 2. Zuchini crab cake - I enjoyed though hubs thought it was just fine. I appreciated the greens with it. 3. Chicken - a little sweet. Gboochi is solid. 4. Black cod - Neither of us cared for it. It didn't have a lot of taste. Ramps were tasty. Honestly, not a great birthday dinner.
