I love the convenience of the AMC for movies, Gloria's, Wildwood and other food establishments, department stores for any occasion, and some small coffee shops. What I'd love to see more of, though, is a bit more kid-friendly options for those with little ones. We do enjoy the small green lawn near the fountain! But maybe some restaurants that have a centralized courtyard where kids can roam free. There's also some room for improvement to add less chainy spots and more local mom and pops to support.

I'm from nowhere anywhere near here, but my friend is. I told him there were a few last minute things I needed for a wedding I was to attend a couple of days away. There was no better place than this for whatever it was I was trying to find. Made a stop at Dillards: found stuff there. And I should have been done already, but also went to Macy's and found even more stuff there. The choices seemed endless, but with a tight schedule, I was really limited to where I can go and what to do. But at least I found what I needed. One can kill time just by being here. It could take a whole day and some to get to see everything. Kinda jealous we don't have something like this closer to home! Good to know the convenience is here should I find the need once more.

Beautiful old buildings are still the main staple surrounding the square. And I do love old buildings! The vintage bricks. Their big sweeping windows - perfect for grand store displays. And if I'm real lucky they will have original signage on the buildings. That's the part that makes me the happiest. And today I was in luck as I walked along Garlands square - the most beautiful old sign glowed in the night like a beacon drawing me in - it is the Plaza Theater. I stood there in awe. Yes, it was a grand thing to see! And they have many shows there. I just missed Sleepy Hollow. I wish I knew about it, that would have been a treat to see in this theater. Looking at upcoming events I am already making plans to attend some of them. I truly cannot wait! With it being October, pumpkins and straw filled the benches with fall sweetness. And children were playing in the middle courtyard. There's something beautiful about children playing and laughing. so, now I must end this review with a quiet but meaningful statement - Downtown Garland has captured that small home town feel many of us look for. So, don't miss out on this rare treat if you are in the neighborhood.

I can appreciate that the city keeps this downtown area fun with lots of cute eclectic shops and random art. You can easily spend a day out there just looking around. It is hard to rate Town East Mall when there are so many great franchises that reside in this…read moreestablishment. The reason for the low rating is that the management does not value the money the franchises are giving them by using some of the money to keep up the grounds which includes security and managing the restrooms. Is there security, yes. Are they helpful, no. They either stand up as a group and chat or sit in their vehicle rather than patrolling the grounds and deterring bad behavior. Moreover, the restrooms are out of order, with no regular maintenance to ensure they stay clean and well stocked. (See pictures of how the men's restroom looked for the week of Black Friday and how much worse it got by the Christmas holidays.) I feel the store options in this mall is top quality, yet the management needs to pay more attention to keeping the grounds up which includes expectations for the security staff they hire. Do more for the people, Town East Mall management team? We deserve for our community similar events that North Park Mall and the Galleria offer their guests.

This is Macy's new outlet store, the first one in metro Dallas. (There's also one opening in FW)…read more Saw a story in the Dallas Morning News about it and thought I'd check it out, as I spend a lot of $$ at outlet stores, and at Macy's! So I drove 30 miles roundtrip to Town East Mall, which is closer for me than driving to Allen (but not to The Shops at Park Lane's outlet stores). This "outlet store" is actually just another department located inside the regular Macy's Town East store and isn't separated by a door, or anything else. It's difficult to find in the store, with no signs pointing the way, not to mention no "Grand Opening," or anything else! I had to ask two sales associates (who are also difficult to find, btw) where it was. It's just a very small, oddly-configured rectangular area of the store on the lower level. It is not "clearance" from other Macy's stores; rather, for the most part it's cheap, unknown-name merchandise purchased for the "outlets." But, at the same time, they had what was apparently a real Gucci (under lock and key) and a real Tory Burch handbag for sale. Even though the whole area is very small, for some reason they devoted a great deal of space to selling soft drinks and junk-food snacks, which one would think they would be concerned might get spilled on the merchandise! Their shoe racks also contain very little merchandise, and they had a "decor" section with tacky rattan furniture and velvet hangers that looked like they were from DD's Discounts! Clothing is seasonal, with nearly every single women's top and dress I saw being sleeveless. They also have a kids' section. The fitting rooms (here called "dressing rooms" - what a novel concept!) have nice, three-way mirrors in the stalls, but they're not carpeted. Instead, there's a cement-like floor. An employee told me it was because carpet "doesn't absorb odors." Huh? Are they needing easy mop-ups because they're expecting homeless people-- or kids-- urinating on them? Or maybe to clean up spilled soda and candy that they sell? Thank God at least they don't have unisex dressing rooms, such as at Target and at Bloomingdale's Outlet! The background-noise level in the "store" was extremely loud and irritating. Not only that, there were two completely different styles of rock music blaring together so loudly with such cacophony that it made me want to cut my shopping short and run out of the store ASAP: "I'll confess! I'll confess!" They do accept Macy's credit cards, but you can't use your Macy's coupons. Also there's no 15% extra discount, or any other incentive, for using your Macy's card. I had to find out these facts from a manager, as the employee who was checking me out was clueless when I asked her. And they're so cheap, when I bought a maxi skirt and insisted they leave it on the hanger, they admitted they didn't have a long, plastic bag for it, only short ones, so they could save money. And unlike at regular Macy's, I was told you only have 30 days for a return.
