Just wanted to give a shout-out to Sebastian at the Coffee & Bakery Shop area of the Plaza Hotel... We drove up from Santa Fe earlier this morning, only to discover upon arrival that they food service amenities were closed on Wednesdays. In spite of our disappointment, Sebastian provided additional options in the immediate vicinity and, in addition, escorted us over to the racks of local maps and brochures, to advise us of the many options available in the Las Vegas NM area. It is this kind of attentive grace that makes us sure to return, but not on a Monday or Wednesday. read more

Nothing can beat the atmosphere for this cool historic hotel that is also rumored to be haunted. Our room had either a full or a queen bed - they were out of Kings when I booked. I'm sure I booked a queen, but the size of the bed was small and two full sized adults had a hard time fitting on it. It was a rough sleep. The mattress sagged toward the middle as well. In hindsight, I should have brought up the fact that the bed was not what we'd booked, but I wasn't 100% positive at the time. The room was nice, the bed being the exception, and the front desk responsive when we asked for two luggage racks for suitcases. We had none in there initially. The swamp cooler would randomly stop working during the night and made the room uncomfortable. Lots of celebrities and infamous characters have stayed here over the years. There's a lot of photos and framed info along the walls by the rooms. We wandered around reading everything. Parking is a pain - there are a couple in the back of the hotel and only street parking in the front. read more

It is iconic and looks fantastic from the outside. So many film stars have stayed here while on location. We recreated the staircase scene from No Country For Old Men. Pablo took the Woody Harrelson role and I took Javier Bardem. Sadly we had no hat or shotgun but we did a pretty good job. There are no lobby signs indicating that the next floors promise lots of fun information on filming in the area, local outlaws and which stars over the years have stayed in which rooms. I spent a good 30 minutes soaking it in. It is a musty maze across two floors, with books and trinkets. I loved it. The ground floor of the hotel is a charisma bypass. What a pity as the cafe and lobby could be so much more fun and informative (this is true of Las Vegas generally, so many wasted opportunities). There is a gift shop with the usual pottery etc. Staff were fairly oblivious to visitors. We opted not to stay overnight. I peeked in many of the rooms and they looked like they had retained their 19C furniture in keeping with the time period. Some were large some were not. read more

After being fans of historic hotels, especially the La Posada in Arizona, which is owned by the same folks - we were really disappointed by our stay. The restaurant and cafe had recently closed and that had probably changed the general feeling as you walk in. There is no longer a reading room, which is a lovely aspect of both the La Posada and the Castañeda. In terms of our room, do not get a "non-plaza view" room! Your view is literally a wall about 8-10' away and side views directly into other rooms. (I wasn't offered anything other than this type when I called, so you might have to ask). Only one window means the room is quite dark. One thin coverlet on the bed, no extra blankets and the bedside lamp was connected to the bright overhead room light. Our toilet ran continuously and the housekeeping wasn't very good at all. The staff at the front desk desk was very nice - actually we stopped at the Castañeda and their staff was nice as well. Parking was easy, right in front of the hotel. The architecture throughout the town is amazing and you can see why so many films/series have been shot here. My recommendation is the Castañeda - the rooms look on par with La Posada, they have a lovely lounge and there's a super cute place to eat across the street. read more

I just love this hotel. We have lived in Albuquerque for 4 years (from So Cal) and it's been a goal to come and stay here. Due to a change of plans my husband and I came here for thanksgiving for 2 nights. For the type of hotel the prices were very good. I definitely would not stay in a non plaza view room. First they take dogs. Which is rare for a hotel of this class. Even some of the surrounding businesses allow dogs with "well behaved humans". Second Las Vegas NM has been in I believe over 100 movies and TV shows as is one of the only towns that can represent pretty much any era from 1800s to now. And if you are a Longmire fan, his "office" is across the street from the hotel Third we were shocked and pleasantly surprised at how large the rooms are. I do not know that they are all this large but it was a king with a small sofa/settee. And a pretty large bathroom. I have stayed in old high end hotels in New York, DC and more and these are twice the size (and less than half the price) of those. I definitely could make a top 100 things list but I will just add the area is cool, the plaza is nice and dog friendly (with poo bags), it's a college town so has that funky vibe, it's been restored beautifully, we found the Prairie Cafe to be really good (not cheap fyi but worth it), they have a lovely collection of Talavera and more southwest and Mexican art, the staff is wonderful...very very nice. I will note which is not the hotels fault, if you are walking your dog alone as a female there are a few probably homeless folks around. Of course it's a nationwide problem and not like LA or NYC. Will definitely go back, for us a cool getaway about 2 hours from Albuquerque read more

Loved this place! It's an old hotel from the heyday of the original Las Vegas - late 19th century. I feel like they raided every estate sale from New Mexico from the last 60 years to decorate this place. There are old books on shelves throughout the halls and in the rooms, as well as some older furniture, yet it doesn't smell like a musty old library, which sometimes happens with older properties. Oh, and to keep in with the classic hotel scene, they still use actual metal keys! They have put a lot of work on this property, which is probably why it's been used in a few shows, particularly Longmire. Many actors also stayed here relatively recently, based upon the signage on many of the rooms. It seems that a number of the employees also stay here, which is a nice perk. The rooms have an interesting layout, the floors creek, and the view is hit or miss, but for what I paid, I got a great history lesson just by walking the halls. The staff all seemed nice and the parking was fine, but it was all street parking. That might get a bit more difficult to deal with when the hotel is fully booked, which it wasn't the night I stayed there. Definitely recommend this place if you like hotels with history. read more

All in all it's a cool place, love the funkiness, history and the setting on the plaza. The rooms are nice when the AC works. Stayed for two nights in early August. The AC in the room conked out on the second day. Was advised at the front desk to shut it down for an hour, then reboot. So we turned it off and went out to supper, then started it up again when we returned...as the night wore on it became obvious that the AC wasn't responding. It got too late to hit up the front desk about a room change - we were tired after a long day sightseeing - so we rode out the night in the increasing heat. The window was sealed shut and we were up on the third floor, so the room got awful stuffy. I imagine it's not the first time the AC has died in a room, then to have us waste time trying to reboot was a mistake on the hotel's part, as it placed the responsibility on our shoulders to remedy the problem. It cost us a night's sleep in what had been up until then a special place to stay. read more

A wonderful stay at the Historic Plaza Hotel! We stayed two nights in a king room with plaza view. The room was wonderful and exceeded our expectations for a historical hotel. Room and bathroom were spacious with high ceilings and well done. Only complaints for the room was that the mattress felt like it slanted and the head of the bed felt lower than the foot and the pillows weren't great. We always stay at this great old-time Western hotel when visiting family in Las Vegas, NM. The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished with 19th century period furniture and native indigenous art compared to more modern and sterile cookie-cutter hotels. Get a room overlooking the old plaza for a more traditional view and feel to this quaint little old cowboy town. There is a decent restaurant and bar located in the lobby area for your convenience, as they provide a place to escape to for breakfast and lunch during the occasional winter snowstorm. I really enjoyed visiting the plaza hotel! We ate lunch at the restaurant, which had a beautiful, welcoming and inviting interior. There were many items on the menu to choose from. The prices seemed a little bit expensive, but the food was high quality with a fantastic atmosphere, so it was well worth it. Our waitress was very friendly, helpful and kind and also following covid safe practices during our visit. The interior decor of the restaurant is very delightful and made me feel happy in the space. There are lovely paintings and art displayed on the walls, incredible chandeliers, artisan furniture and fresh flowers on every table. The hotel is an historic building and I recommend that you explore around a little bit after your meal. A few tips when booking.... If you're looking for an experience and a beautifully decorated room, book a room with a Plaza view. It might be pricey, but it'll be worth the spend. If you're looking for a specific bed size or room quality and you don't book a room with a view you may be unpleasantly surprised when you end up in a small room with a full-size bed and the window view of the brick wall next door. My favorite change to the hotel has been the Prarie Hill Cafe, which is a gorgeous little restaurant in the hotel lobby with a coffee & pastry bar attached. Everything on the menu looks yummy, and from what I understood, almost everything.... from entrées to sides to desserts... is locally sourced and made from scratch. A stay at the Plaza Hotel is an experience. You have much of what you need there or, you can take a stroll down Bridge Street and visit all the little shops and eateries and even a tiny movie theater. Oh! We stayed as a group. There was 15 of us. The hotel was aware of this both for our rooms and for dinner over 3 weeks in advance. They knew also in advance of what each of us chose to eat for dinner. The rooms Apparently the hotel is actually 2 very old buildings put together. Unless your room is in the front building there will be NO plaza view. There is no coffee maker in room. At 7am complimentary coffee at front desk stops restaurant opens. My room had a used coffee cup on the bookshelf And a left can of soda in refrigerator. So I didn't feel the room got a through cleaning from last guest. Dinner First the waiter says he will serve 1/2 of us first then the last 1/2. Since we were all together that was absurd. The wait for food was long enough but after we ate and they finally came to clear plates was when troubles really started we were each asked to verify what we ate and what we wanted for dessert Then we waited and we waited. Finally dessert came out and the fun with our checks started. They had no idea what receipt to give to who. Some had to leave. Some were incorrect. The process was endless. From when plates were cleared to when the last person paid and got their card back took over an hour and half. I try not to be critical but the whole hotel needs to do much better. I did give 3 stars because the front desk on Friday were very nice read more

We love staying in historic hotels and we got a good rate on Priceline for one night. The hotel is beautiful. The deluxe king room we were in was super spacious and comfy, with the highest ceiling I've ever seen in a hotel room. Bed was large and comfy. Room and property seemed very clean. Mask mandate was in effect for public areas. The only bummer was that the hotel saloon was closed and the restaurant was also closed except for breakfast. We were looking forward to the old west saloon experience and the website didn't say that it and the restaurant would be closed. The hotel is across from a park in a historic area. We were hugely disappointed in the pizza place across the street from the hotel, but a little further up Bridge Street we found a cozy Mexican restaurant/bar that had great service and cheap drinks, and helped make up for our disappointment with the saloon and the pizza place. Stayed here twice in a weeks time. First time, traveling with my son heading to college, so, booked online in advance. Got a standard 2 twin bed setups. Very comfortable and clean. AC worked flawlessly. TV had plenty of channels (didn't watch it tho). No phone in the room; but, never use them anyway. Staff very pleasant. Bar/restaurant on property (not really affiliated with the hotel so you can't charge to your room). Food was excellent and the draft beer selections had some local talent. Spent most of my time sitting outside sipping a beer watching the park/plaza out front and the locals/visitors strolling by. Pro Tip: On my return trip (sans son) I made an unexpected stop back at the Plaza. When checking in, the clerk mentioned "unadvertised" economy rooms available: single full sized bed with private bath. I didn't bother checking it out and went right to to the patio for dinner, drinks and relaxing from a long drive. Finally made it to the room (228) and was like WOW! Tall ceiling, comfy bed and spotless bathroom. Loved it. Also, Las Vegas NM is a cute little town to explore. Netflix was filming in the park area out front and apparently the film crews will take over the Plaza when in full swing - so, call ahead. Lastly, check out the Skillet for some local grub - that too is awesome... read more

Historic Elegance in the Heart of Las Vegas!! This is the place, yes this is the place to be if you're ever in Las Vegas NM or the surrounding area. I had the pleasure of a one night but memorable stay during a trip through the area. Bored of the usual chain hotels that typically stay in, I decided I wanted to stay someplace memorable, unique and with a touch of elegance. I pulled up my three trusty apps, TripAdvisor, Google and Yelp and for once they all agreed that this was the place to stay in Las Vegas NM, on top of that, it was surprisingly affordable. A no-brainer right? As I approached the hotel I noticed it was situated on a circular plaza. The plaza is right in the center of Las Vegas and home to many shops, businesses and restaurants. Now let's get one fine point, parking!!! You can park in front of the hotel but parking is limited, if you go to the back you find very limited parking as well. I had to park and go inside the hotel and have one of the employees tell me that you can park in the big parking lot overnight it's just unofficially okay to park there. Now to the hotel. a recent renovation that still held on the classic past is what awaits you when you walk in. There are historic artifacts all over the hotel, including pictures and paintings from the past, as well as furniture and other items. The gift shop too carries antiques as well as other touristy items. There are three places to get drinks and food, there is a bar in the hotel which serves snacks and a restaurant where I had breakfast. There is also a little coffee shop serving coffee and snacks in the front lobby. Now to the rooms. All of the rooms are uniquely decorated and named after a celebrity of the past or present. My room, in particular, was the Hilary Swank Suite which was one of the rooms that face the plaza or a Plaza View King Room. My room was elegantly ordained with antiques and tastefully decorated. Not only that, I could actually open my window!!! Another bonus was the strong signal from the wifi. My bed was big and comfy and since it was summer I slept to a nice cool breeze in my room. Please note that this was a Friday and the 'Plaza' across the street is a park with a bandstand that has live music at least on Friday nights. This is also a lively western town with nightlife, you may hear music from the bars and the sounds of loud motorcycles at any given time. In the morning I sauntered down to the restaurant and had one of the best Huevo Rancheros that I've had in a long time. The service in the restaurant was top-notch and my breakfast was absolutely delicious and at a great price point. This is the place to be if you're ever in Las Vegas, I highly recommend this place. read more

If you are driving to Santa Fe or Taos (from the east), get off of I-40 at Tucumcari and take a most scenic drive to Las Vegas, NM. (Really, the drive is outstanding, both coming and going.) This is how we happened upon the historic Las Vegas Plaza and the Plaza Hotel a couple of years ago. We had always wanted to stay there and got the chance on our last trip. First of all, the hotel is an antique but the accommodations were not lacking. We booked a Victorian deluxe room and I was really pleased. The service (both our reservation by phone and our in person check in were done by Sean) was flawless. The other service.....(more about that later). Make sure you request a plaza facing room. The rooms are decorated nicely. Ours even had a fully stocked book shelf. There are no phones in the rooms, but wifi is free. Even if you don't end up staying here, stop in and walk the halls to see what actors have stayed here for films in the area (everything from the Longmire series to The Homesman to No Country for Old Men, just to name a few). They do offer coffee in the mornings and we were told a bit of fruit, apples and oranges mostly. The adjacent saloon and dining hall??? I would probably go elsewhere. I had read that the bar featured a LOT of regional craft beers. They had a few. The service was spotty and a bit weird. We were first given a lunch menu instead of the "bar menu" and even though we kept asking for a rundown of the brews, we were never given a beer or wine list. The salsa was good and garlicky, though. I would order that again. Beware that there may be a couple of locals that want to "hang out" and chat (for beers). They're mostly harmless but we got the impression from the bartender that they were regular bar flies here. Dinner was just OK. (We ended up with the same spacey waitress from the bar that had moved to dinner service in the restaurant.) Don't get me wrong. I would definitely stop for a brew and the experience (just to say you've done that.) We will probably stop in Las Vegas again (just because we love that scenic drive), but we've probably marked this off our bucket list. We might book another room, but we will eat elsewhere. Four stars for the hotel. Probably 2 1/2 for the saloon and dining. (Supposedly they have one haunted room, 220, if we believe our bar friends.) read more

This is a fun place. And you get to tell your friends you're at the Plaza in Vegas! Just sounds so impressive The room we had didn't include a framed story of a famous person who stayed in it but I walked all the floors and read about some of the famous guests. They were filming Longmire and the hotel was hosting the crew so we were lucky to snag a room without a reservation. The restaurant and saloon have been recently restored and are lovely. The food was good too. My interest in staying at this hotel is because it was built near the era of the Louis Lamour westerns that my husband reads me every night. In particular there are several stories that mention Las Vegas NM! I wanted to enjoy the architecture and ambiance of an old hotel that the books characters would have experienced surrounded by the grand landscape described in the books. It was really great fun. If you have a husband who enjoys westerns, and you'd like your husband to read to you, but you're not sure YOU would enjoy a western story, we recommend you try reading CONAGHER by Louis Lamour. We actually gift that particular story to our friends because it is just such a fun sweet tale! It has wonderful western action for the guys and enough romance to keep a woman interested! Really most Lamour westerns are similar. Conagher is just our favorite! Listening to my husband read me a Lamour story and cuddling at the Plaza in Las Vegas...priceless! read more

Parking here I absurd. I highly recommend any other location. I complained and the desk clerk agreed. It is a nicely restored historic hotel with nasty carpet in the rooms. Be prepared to hike to your parking location. I'd guess they have maybe 15 spots that employees also use. Aggravating after a day on the road. read more

Enjoyed my stay here very much - the food, the decor, the gift shop, the customer service, the history, and the ambiance are ALL exceptional! The one thing I would change next time (and it's a biggie) is the room. I would insist on a room with windows. Too, the ventilation in that part of the hotel (the middle?) was horrible. I woke up congested every morning and felt claustrophobic at times. Another windowless room experience would be a non-starter for me at this hotel even if it was the only hotel with availability in Las Vegas, NM and the surrounding area. But, with a window, some ventilation, and all of the other great things I mentioned earlier, the Plaza Hotel would rate 5 stars for sure. PS: The elote appetizer available in the bar area is delicious! And, yes, for all of you ghost-chasers out there, the place is haunted (I woke up to the sound of the floor creaking in the middle of the night as if someone was walking by the foot of my bed.) read more

This hotel is amazing! I can't believe that we get to stay here and it is in our own backyard in New Mexico! It is so rich with local history as well as facts that film buffs are going to eat up! If a star has stayed in your room, there will be a plaque next to the door detailing it! This hotel has been in many feature films for good reason. It is stunning! The halls are filled with antique furniture and relics as well as books for you to read during your stay. The rooms also have gorgeous vintage furniture and artwork as well as large bathrooms. The beds are ridiculously comfortable and the staff is so friendly! We haven't tried the restaurant yet but snagged a late night treat from the front desk and it was heavenly with toasted coconut and large chocolate chips! We have been keeping an eye on the Plaza Hotel for a couple of years now, watching the remodel and reconstruction. We are HUGE fans of La Posada in Winslow, Arizona, and having a chance to stop at their sister hotel turned out to be a wonderful experience. Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short but we will be back in the future! A huge shoutout to the staff in Byron T's Saloon for the great drinks, and the absolutely awesome dinner. We stayed at the Plaza so decided to check out restaurant. The fIg, Prosciutto, cheese Panini was delicious. The house salad with Rosemary Vinaigrette was seriously to die for I have never tasted anything like it so so so yummy. The truffle fries so good. This hotel rocks! The staff is very attentive and friendly, they work hard to make your stay comfortable, they know you are a customer and it shines through their service. The rooms are excellent and have been totally updated with excellent amenities, bonus points for comfortable beds and pillows. The hotel's Range Cafe has a menu that is diverse and sensitive to all dietary needs. Every meal I had was super tasty, the blue corn pancakes one morning were a real treat. It's New Mexico, hey, green chilies! We had meetings at our retreat and the meeting facilities were very accommodating. This historic property has been thoroughly refurbished to provide all the features one would expect at a 5 star hotel, yet it is on the National Register of Historic Places and is situated on the old town Plaza. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a romantic weekend getaway or a organizational meeting retreat facility. When we saw the hotel from the outside and first walked in, it looked absolutely beautiful and renovated that is, until we got to our room. Upon check-in the staff was rude and dismissive but we had been traveling all day to attend a funeral and we were tired so I didn't really care. We were also hungry and all signage stated that the restaurant was open until 8:30 but apparently they decided they wanted to close at 8 that night so we weren't able to order food to take to our room. We got there right around 8 o'clock. we went up to the room to change and were going to go find someplace to eat but as we started to look around we noticed how filthy the room was. The carpet had not been vacuumed in a very long time and there was a sticker on the wall from a former occupant. we went downstairs and asked for a different room which was obliged. The second room was definitely an upgrade and very pretty until we started to look around. There was no toilet paper in the restroom but that's an easy fix. Once again, the room was filthy and had human hair as well as dog hair all over the carpet and while I understand that the cleaning staff doesn't detail the corners every time they clean a unit, it looked like they had never been cleaned oh and the best part? I found a roach in my bed. We were at this hotel for about 30 minutes between the two rooms and we checked out, got a refund. By that time it was about 8:30 PM and even though we had been traveling since early that morning by way of car, we decided to drive into Albuquerque where we had family that we could stay with. Needless to say, we got there about midnight. I was traveling with my elderly mother and if I could give less than one star I absolutely would. Don't stay here, don't even consider it. Also, when we finally checked out the front desk was very dismissive and didn't want to give us a receipt of check out or proof of a refund until I mentioned that I would be taking the situation up with management. All of the sudden, they could provide proof of both. And first they said that my credit card would be refunded in 3 to 5 days but miraculously, it was refunded immediately with a receipt. read more

I love staying at the Plaza. It is clean, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and I love the atmosphere of an old building with updated rooms. The decor is gorgeous and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. On the wall next to the rooms, they have pictures and biographies of a famous person who stayed in the room. You'd be shocked at all of the actors who stayed there while filming in the area. The rooms facing the town center can get noisy on Friday nights but it calms down by bedtime. They allow dogs and they're very sweet with them. If you are really brave or curious, you can stay in one of the rooms that is supposedly haunted! That's what brought us to the town the first time, and after discovering that there's a lot more to it than what you see driving past on the interstate, we keep going back. read more

I love this place! I visit at least oncee every time I'm in town which is often. It's such a remarkable part of American history and cinematic history that is still brimming with life. It's a beautiful place that is comfortable to the times while the owners/management/staff stay true to the history and nostalgia of a time bygone. Any staff I have had contact with are always very friendly and accommodating. Though it's a true historical building/busIness I have never seen or got the impression there was ever anything unclean or unkempt about any part of The Plaza Hotel. It's very clean and up to date while not compromising the history or aura. The Plaza Hotel (Castaneda) of Las VEgas New Mexico are not jussi must visits when in Las Vegas they are must visits when in the South West! read more
