You know what it's fine. The buffet was surprisingly good but the hotel staff was very unpolished. I can understand people are busy setting up for New Year's celebrations, but no one looks where they're going and I was run into on multiple occasions. I was at a urinal and one of the servers was in the euro next to me and flapped open his work vest smacking me in the face. No apology. He did not wash his hands before leaving either. Dichotomy of a more down to earth standard non American hotel that caters to more Mexicano vs Americans. About 90-10 mix in favor of Mexicano. Compared to next door Now Amber / Secrets which is all inclusive high end. Rooms are inn like and more basic. Bed isn't as great but will make do. Larger TV than Now Amber in both living and bedroom. No views from ocean view bedroom unless one stands at an angle in the corner. Pillows smelled like last inhabitants... more bleach Por favor! Swapped out with hood housekeeping. Coffee maker you can see the brown stains in the plastic tray. Great housekeeping! Good side, concierge didn't push timeshare on me. So thankful I gave him a propina. Great side views with a larger balcony. Listening to waves after the party goes home. Washer and dryer for $3. Kitchen and Frigerator to make healthier food. 1/2 the price of Now Amber next door 100 feet down. Timeshare swapping on RCI or Wyndham. NOT A RESORT. AWFUL experience. So much so, we checked in and checked out as soon as we could the next morning. I was traveling with my elderly father and thought I did enough research to have an enjoyable trip and that was not the case. The beds were rock hard, the air barely worked (we were there in June so made it miserable), there were roaches, and was not clean especially for covid times. The "beach" was maybe a couple of yards wide so people were stacked on top of each other and no room to relax. Pools were not clean or well kept. Most of all, the "all-inclusive" dining options were mostly food left out in the open with flies everywhere. I was willing to pay the night we stayed, but now the hotel is refusing to refund the nights we did not. I am beyond disappointed, now not only with the stay which I had planned to keep to myself, but with the lack of customer service and integrity. read more

This is a nice beachside hotel resort, with a nice pool w/ swim up bar, good housekeeping, pleasant and helpful staff, decent gym and spa area, etc. However, I have to stress this....DO NOT stay here if you're an American while travel restrictions require a COVID test to get back. Or at the very least, don't bother trying to get a test here. We started trying to schedule a test with them at the very start to the week as they assured us at check in we could. But from the very beginning, it was a nightmare just trying to schedule the damn test. We heard every excuse in the book...."you'll have to speak with the manager, but he isn't here" or "oh you'll have to call tomorrow at 9 am" and then "oh the manager stepped out" blah blah. We finally scheduled our tests with the doctor for 9 am two days before we left, but he wasn't there when we arrived for the appointment. The hotel told us "oh he's on his way...another ten minutes" over and over. The doctor was over 45 minutes late and unprofessional. He promised the results to us that evening via email, but they never arrived. So now we have to waste part of our last full day getting the hotel to track this guy down. Just pay a little extra and go to one of the clinics in PV to get the test. It'll save you lots of time and keep you from feeling frustrated. I'd love to give this place more stars, but just can't. This whole experience was highly frustrating, ruining the last moments of our week vacation in paradise. read more

We stayed at this "resort" with about 60+ other family members for 2 birthdays. First, we called to see if they could accommodate an area for a party and refused. And we found out that they do not have 24/7 customer service as we tried calling after 5pm and received the answering machine. When we got there, they gave us our keys and towels and didn't explain what the hotel included. The rooms were ones you can expect at a motel 6 but the cleaning was excellent. The food is still making me sick and their "buffet" was really more of an upgraded continental spread. They serve pepsi products and no name concession stand juice. The kicker was at the end when they were trying to charge us 400 pesos (20 usd) for an old towel that we couldn't find. Out of the entire group we were just missing 1 towel and we found that to be poor taste in customer service. In conclusion, if you simply want a hotel to crash at, stay here. If you want an all-inclusive experience, spend a couple pesos more and go to another resort as this isn't one. read more

I recently stayed here for a week in February. The resort is located in a great location in PV. It's very close to everything which is really nice if you enjoy getting out & walking around town. I didn't do too much exploring this time just because I've been coming to Jalisco/Nayarit areas for over ten years and I've done a lot of great activities, but this time I wanted to come & relax. I had a basic room with a patio. It had 2 queen beds, a really nice bathroom, flat screen TV with quite a few channels, 2 robes & slippers, and a stocked mini fridge. The housekeeping cleans the room everyday. The mini fridge gets stocked with juice, sodas & cerveza every other day. I opted for the all-inclusive package which included all food & drinks. The food was very good, in my opinion. A lot of people complain about the food, but I found it to be delicious. My favorite was the breakfast buffet which was always filled with fresh fruit, Mexican pastries & coffee. There are 2 buffet-style cafes/bars and one formal restaurant. You need to make a reservation at the sit-down restaurant as it's quite popular. There is also an option for room service which is included with the all-inclusive package. Also, there is a rooftop bar that very few people know about. It's has hot tubs, latin music & dancing in the evenings. This is a gem! The views are to die for up there! Definitely a highlight at this place. The pool is so nice. It's an infinite pool with gorgeous views of the bay. The beach is typically very rough. I was told when the hurricane hit the bay 10 years ago it caused the beach to change significantly which caused the rough under currents. I like to swim in the ocean, but due to the rough waters I walked next door and was able to swim comfortably. The beaches on either side of this resort are more swimmer friendly with longer beach access. There are plenty of activities at this resort which is included. I did the zumba classes, aqua aerobics in the pool and kayaking. There are frequently Dolphins that swim in the bay. During my final morning here, I went kayaking one last time and dolphins were putting on a little show about 20 feet from my boat. The atmosphere is lively. Most people are older, retired Canadians but there were couples and families too. In my opinion, an owner (time-share owner) gets treated a lot better than just a person staying there (like me). The owners get waited on more, so be sure and tip and make friends with one or 2 servers and you'll be treated well too. I've stayed all over this area and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. I was happy with the service, the room & the food. My favorite was the location of this resort and the rooftop bar. read more

It's a smaller resort, compared to other resorts I've stayed at. It's close to the beach, and the rooms aren't bad. We did an all-inclusive stay, but I felt it wasn't worth it. There is only one buffet, and it's so small, we had to stand in line to get in once. The regular restaurant needs reservations, and was already booked the second day we wanted dinner there. We were able to get a reservation the first night, and we were the only ones in the restaurant. And it still took a long time for our food. The food was not great, in the restaurant nor the buffet. I kept eating and eating just because it was all-you-can-eat. No real authentic Mexican food. It was random food put together. It was either too salty or had no flavor. And you can't even take food up to your room. I think the only thing I liked was their fruit juices and their little cart where they made a variety of ceviche. We decided to actually go out and pay for dinner off the resort one night. We went to Blake's Restaurant, and it was delicious. There is only two bars, and one of them doesn't open until the evening. And it's only two drinks per person at a time. When we tried to go to the Sky Bar that opens in the evening, it was closed off for a private event. They give you two cans of beer in your "mini bar" in your room, and only refill it every three days. And the staff doesn't seem too friendly and hospitable. The person who works the front and tries to get you to sign up for activity packages was a little too pushy. She kept questioning all of us on what our plans were. She even followed us outside and questioned us. She kept watching us as we walked across the street, and she got upset when she realized we made our own plans without using her. I had ran back into the resort to grab something from my room, and in a rude and angry voice, she said, "Are you lost? Do you need help?" I said I was going back to my room, and she asks, "Do you need a map?" She gave this dirty look the whole time. She knew we've already been staying here for two days. After that, she never talked to any one of us again, which was fine by us. I wouldn't want to stay here again. read more

Never got a chance to finish this review that I started in back in April 2016... But I'm here to finish what I started! Terrible terrible experience! I'm only giving it 2 stars since it was close to the beach and fairly close to downtown... We were a party of 10 girls for my younger sister's bachelorette party. I've never been around such unfriendly people in Mexico. I felt like the staff just didn't give a crap. I also felt they were pretty bitter that we didn't book excursions through them. The front desk lady was borderline harassing us. Asked us where we were going every time we walked past, followed us to the entrance to see where we were going. Gave us mean, dirty looks. Just totally giving us bad vibes because she realized we were booking activities through somebody else. Of course this is just my opinion. She could just simply be an unfriendly person... There was only 1 restaurant on site and they were't able to accommodate us, and even turned us away when the restaurant was empty. Literally EMPTY!!! After I spoke to the hotel manager (whom I booked a reservation with) he explained there was a misunderstanding and got us into the restaurant. The food was mediocre. We even finished eating by the time anybody else even dined there! It was still empty when we left! I'd left messages for the hotel manager to ring me in my room since I had questions, he never returned my calls. And when I would go to the front desk to ask for him, the front desk people would tell me he already left. What kind of hospitality is that? There were 2 bars on site, the bar near the pool and a bar upstairs. The bar upstairs is only open evenings and the one night we tried to go up, they were closed for a special event. I love Mexico, and but wouldn't EVER come here or recommend it to anybody. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. I had the WORST experience! First off, we got there and they put us in the suite RIGHT in front of the pool. Which means, LOUD MUSIC, LIGHTS, LASERS, YELLING, SPLASHING... all this ruckus, late into the night as we try to sleep. We had to endure this EVERY DAY. Not only that, because we are on the first floor, we had SO MANY MOSQUITOES in our suite! I had to sleep UNDER the blankets and I STILL got bit!! I had to spray DEET all over my body- at all times of the day. We asked management to move us MULTIPLE times. They said they could not accommodate us, probably because we didn't want to do the all-inclusive. Why would we? Why would I pay extra to eat barbecued burgers and hot dogs? The restaurant menus seemed mediocre. It wasn't until we began touring OTHER resorts did management give a shit about us. Then they started STALKING us, our every move in and out of the resort. Uh excuse us, can we just drive downtown to get some food? No need to follow us out to our car, wait for us to come back, ask where we've been. FINALLY, they decided to move us. And guess what? The newer suites they moved us to were 100000x BETTER!! Apparently, we were on the shitty side of the resort. They moved us to this bigger, newer, higher suite on the 8th floor or something. We had a view of the beach!! It was quiet and no mosquitoes! It didn't matter, too little too late! Not to mention the other hotel guests. I couldn't lay out by the pool without feeling sexually harassed or violated by disgusting, staring men- OF ALL AGES. Young, old... all would just sit there and STARE at me. It was ALWAYS the same type of person staring, if you know what I'm saying. Also, I was in a regular bikini, nothing revealing. Worst service ever!!!! We came in at 12 they said the room would be ready at 3 and then we came back to check in and they said reservations aren't till 4 but we were told by the manger at 3 so we went to eat and came back at 4 and they said reservations would be ready at 4:30 now. So we loose a whole day! Everyone is telling us different times and when's we talked to the concierge he said 3 then 4 then 4:30 past the check in time when they specifically said 4 latest and they have a sign in the front saying 4:00 check in and now they want to push our time back. Worst service ever I am not happy or please and they did nothing to make the situation better because the one who was helping us was laughing while we were trying to figure this situation out. We came for a vacation not to have rude people tell us different times. Worst service ever will never come back here! EVER!!!!!!!! If they had a zero stars I would give them zero stars it is the worst vacation we have had and we just started on our first day here. So sad management should do more to fix things these situations because it is not fair for management to tell us to check in at 3 and then another person tell us to check in at 4 and then again check in is at 4:30 past the check in time. We just returned from a week at Plaza Pelicanos Grand Resort and while our overall trip was wonderful, the resort was the most hit or miss lodging experience I've ever had. So much so, that it's hard to give it a solid star rating at all, so I'll break it down by the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Good: The staff was wonderful! Seriously, wonderful! Everyone we met was incredibly kind, accommodating, eager to assist or just chat...really really friendly. A few standouts were Alberto at the Bell Desk, Humberto and Victor at the pool bar, and all the ladies at the Spa. Full disclosure, we were there as timeshare owners, so from what I've heard, our experience and level of service was different than the hotel guests. The rooms were incredibly comfortable and well maintained. Housekeeping was super attentive when needed, and the jugs of water they provided were a great deal (25 pesos for a huge jug of water, which 2 of us polished off each day). We were rarely disturbed by other guest sounds while in our room, and the A/C was a godsend! Since we spent most of our week out and about in town, the times we were at the hotel were mainly just for afternoon naps and night time sleeping, though I did spend 1/2 a day at the pool and 1/2 a day at the spa. The Spa was very small with no bells or whistles, but the mani/pedi I received was relaxing and fairly priced ($25US for an hour long pedicure and express manicure), and the 80 min hot stone massage ($52US) ranked in my top 5 of all time (when combining skill, environment, and value). The Bad: Number one disappointment was the food. We did not have an all-inclusive package and to be honest, there are soooo many ridiculously inexpensive and incredibly delicious places to eat in PV, the only reason I could think that anyone would choose an all-inclusive option is if you're traveling with kids and don't plan to leave the hotel much. My advice...get out more! The food was truly terrible when compared with every other thing we ate during the week. We chose to eat at the resort 3 times: once for breakfast (buffet), once for a late lunch (off the menu), and once for dinner (in the 'fancy' restaurant off the menu). All 3 ranked as our least favorite culinary experiences of the week, meals chosen for convenience rather than taste. Really bad, folks. Edible, but not enjoyable in the least. On a positive note, the food is also really inexpensive, so there's that. Drinks are super weak, but also super cheap. The Sangria was the tastiest libation I tried, especially when I added a Hornitos Reposado floater. Also in the bad category is the pool. Great for kids, not so great for adults. Not as clean as I expected, lots of kids splashing and having fun, but not noticing or caring when they'd splash or bump into other adults in the pool. It was fine for dipping in to cool down, but not fun for 'hanging out'. The Ugly: As I mentioned, we were there as owners from another property and were told upon check-in that we were REQUIRED to attend an owners update mtg while we were there. I chose early morning, to get it over with and specifically said that I wasn't in the market for a new timeshare. I was told again that this was just an hour long update mtg for owners. Of course, that was not the case and the hard sell for purchasing a new property with Shell Vacations began quickly. Two hours later, what started as an initial buy-in price of almost $40k US, was whittled down to less than $10k, and more and more pressure to sign a contract I didn't need or want. It finally took me saying "I'm leaving NOW' for them to let me out of the room and still I was escorted all the way back to the lobby and asked 'what am I supposed to tell my manager when they ask me why you didn't buy anything?!' No bueno! Hated that experience so much! Another 'ugly' was the hot tubs on the roof! Oy vey! I was excited to read that the roof was designated for ages 16+, had its own bar, 2 hot tubs, and gorgeous, unobstructed views. Sadly, the hot tubs were filthy and disgusting...like seriously gross, with brown water and 'stuff' floating in them. We went to the roof one time, the cocktail I had was super disappointing, and while the views were beautiful, and the space filled with potential, it wasn't worth going up again. Really disappointing, especially for 2 adults traveling without kids that could have been a perfect evening gathering place. So...a solid 3-star property, with 4-star service, 3 1/2-star accommodations, and 1 1/2-star food and alcohol quality. With as many property options as there are in PV, I don't expect we'd stay here again. read more

This is a low budget inn! Not many English speakers! They retry hard selling you A time share ! We brought 6 people and would not ever return!! The rooms are tiny and the beds only double size!! Our back window looks at a barb wire fence with A dirty pond! I ask for a different room and they said they are all the same! The picture online is very deceiving it shows part of another resort the beach is tiny!! The food is just ok they kept saying they were out of things!! Over all not good I give it one star read more

Great time last week for our family. I would like to especially compliment Mario and Estefania. They were great. They were very friendly and helpful. The staff was very friendly. I would like to see the hotel include the snack bar restaurant out by the pool with the all inclusive package. It does not make sense to me that you can order the same menu items from room service as part of all inclusive without charge, but you cannot sit down and order without getting charged. All inclusive means all inclusive. Also one more suggestion, the servers by the pool should come around more often to the customers like us that give a tip every time. We noticed that a lot of people do not tip at all, and they get the same service. If you tip the servers, you should get better service in my mind. David read more

Just got back from a great trip at Plaza Pelicanos. We did an all inclusive stay and really enjoyed it. The room and grounds are clean, pleasant and well kept. The buffet has plentiful options and the food is good. The pool is refreshing. However, what really made this place stand out is the amazing service. Every single person we encountered was friendly, sincere, helpful, hard- working and courteous. I would highly recommend this place for that reason! The only drawback is the location. Vallarta Viejo is really a much nicer part of town. It is only a short bus or taxi ride away, but it can definitely be nice to stay where the action is. read more

We stayed here for my husband birthday recently. We booked our trip for 3 days including flight from Expedia and it was fairly cheap. I thought the all inclusive was a great deal! Until I arrived. We booked a king size bed and walked in to a room with two beds. When I called reception she told me that they ran out of rooms with king size beds (would have been nice if she told me this at check in so I knew what to expect and not waste my time calling). The hotel is in a decent location however still have to get a cab to get downtown. The rooms have a weird odor, that I unfortunately brought home with me in my luggage. All inclusive includes a restaurant that need reservations as well as an anytime buffet. The food really sucks! Not worth it whatsoever. The straw that broke the camels back was when I found hair in my food at the buffet. I was disgusted. I guess you get what you paid for. The 2 stars is just because of how inexpensive it was. read more

Pros: Beautiful sunsets, decent location - close walk to the sea walk, good entertainment staff, egg lady was wonderful, safe location for runners/walkers. Cons: We were given the wrong rooms upon check-in and the lady rolled her eyes at us when we requested double beds since we had 5 people that couldn't all sleep in a king, there really aren't as many restaurants/bars/pools or anything as they claim - one kids pool & one regular pool, only two bars period and one doesn't open until 6:00 & it's on the 8th floor, the other is by the pool so you have to leave the lobby (perhaps even in the rain) to walk all the way to the bar, only one al a carte restaurant that they change the menu on plus the buffet for dinner. Shows were lacking, some nights weren't even shows just dance lessons. We were probably the only American's there as they seem to cater to a more local crowd & half the time they didn't bother to repeat anything they said into English. It is extremely noisy with lots of loud people & children at all times. At least in December their beach was very small & virtually un-useable but that might be due to the swells & the time of year. You wouldn't have been able to use the beach because of all the peddlers that would bombard you anyway. Wifi was pretty much nonexistent, could only use it in the lobby & it was so slow that it took 7 days of attempting to finally load my email. Tips: Don't get a room at the top of the stairs if you expect to sleep, people will be coming in very loudly at all hours from partying downtown. Don't get a room that faces the street because you will have headlights shining in your room at all hours as cabs bring the loud people back from partying downtown. Don't believe the 11:00 check out, apparently its really 12:00 and if they tell you that you will get a temporary bracelet after you check out, it is not good for food or drink even if you were all inclusive during your entire stay. The temporary bracelet only allows you access to the facilities, nothing else (even though 3 people told us that we would still be able to eat & drink after our bracelets were cut off). They were VERY rude about this point & we were only staying at the hotel for an hour past checkout. read more

My hotel room was broken into the first evening after checking in, and most of my possessions were stolen. They tried moving me to a number of different rooms, all which had some type of defect. It took two days to find me a room where I felt safe. The manager told me he filed an insurance claim to compensate me for my losses. More than six months later they are still avoiding my phone calls. After getting settled in and trying to salvage my vacation, I used one of the cabs that waits in front of the hotel to find a place to go for food and drinks. As soon as the cab dropped me off I was assaulted and robbed. While trying to find my way back to the hotel the police stopped me and threatened to arrest me if I didn't pay them 1000 pesos. Since I didn't have any money the police eventually let me go. After finding my way back to the hotel and told staff what happened, nobody offered to do anything to help me. Even though it seemed to be a setup. I spent most of my time hiding in my hotel room for the rest of my vacation. This was the worst two weeks of my life. read more
