    Toron-ta-ro
    Cindy D.

Came here to try out these cute drinks with punny names. First time I got the Toron-ta-ro which was one of their specialty drinks and the drink I saw online that made me want to go here. It was yummy, I appreciated the torched marshmallow on it and how fluffy/whipped the drink was. I ended up coming back another time to get their cloud latte. While it did look very appealing, I found the drink to taste okay. This cafe is has ample seating but both times we were lucky to find a spot to sit otherwise the place was packed. I liked that there was a communal table in the back that held larger groups of people or several smaller groups.

I read about this cafe and their drinks, so I bookmarked it for the future. Finally, I had a chance to visit here on a Tuesday evening after work to catch up with my friend. The place was a bit difficult to find, as it's on the second floor (so don't forge to look up!) I arrived at 6 p.m., so it was fairly quiet. There were people studying and chatting. The place was small yet cozy, so I liked the vibe. While waiting, I got a seat by the window and looked at the menu. Then when my friend arrived, we decided to order one drink and one pastry item. Since it was late in the evening, the young friendly man (barista) informed us that there were only two pastry items available. We both picked the same item- curry puffs. My friend ordered a hot cup of Storm Latte (black sesame, milk sesame oil, and charcoal). I picked a hot cup of Coconut Latte (espresso, milk, coconut syrup). When they were ready, the barista called us. I was happy that I had a hot drink and a warm pastry item to eat. The curry puff was delicious- it had a mild spicy kick, and the outer layer was flaky and oh-so-soft. We enjoyed our drinks as well- my friend said he really enjoyed the strong sesame flavour and the creamy consistency of his drink. I liked the light coconut flavour and the smoothness of my drink. There are a variety of drinks, so explore your adventurous side and try a drink that you've never tried before- this cafe is known for unique drinks. Drop by and experience a different kind of cafe! Notes: - All the drinks are one size. - Come early to grab food.

Ummm this place is CUTE!!!!!! I just discovered because I was looking for a cafe spot nearby and I was so excited to come across it :). It's super cute and bright on the inside and the drinks are delicious. I mean.. just look at my iced matcha latte! So cool I watched the whole process of it being made and it's perfect, not too sweet!! Plenty of seating and free wifi!

This is a hidden gem across Gerrard st E. The interior is super aesthetic and I didn't know that they have a gorgeous patio for summers! Absolutely loved their service too. For drinks we got their Toron-ta-ro which was a taro based drink topped with marshmallows and Coconut latte which was pretty good. We also tried their pork belly bao and this was so juicy - I can't describe how delicious this was!

Great spot near TMU to study/catch up with a friend. There's free wifi, seating was pretty limited, and I believe there are outlets around. The drink was pretty good. Last time around that I came here I remember there being more food options and this visit seemed pretty limited. The workers were very courteous and it was a great environment to get some work done. Only thing is that the drinks can get pretty pricey which I get since they are a bit more specialty, but going here will definitely be more of a treat than a regular occurrence.

New coffee shop in the area. From outside it doesn't look like a coffee shop. Good thing they have sign outside where the coffee shop it. Coffee was good but deng it's expensive. Taro latte with marshmallow on top it's a must to try. Sea salt toasted coconut toffee croissant it's not that sweet, its really good.

Plearn cafe is a new coffee shop that has already gained popularity from ll the customers that were already inside. The decor is simple, bright, and creates a great atmosphere to get some work done / study individually or with a small group of friends. Plearn Cafe serves unique Asian flavored coffee and pastries. I got the Toron-ta-ro, which includes taro, purple yam, marshmallow, and milk. It was a delicious and lightly sweet drink, and I think the marshmallow on top hit the spot. Would love to try their other drinks next time I visit.

Plearn has unique drinks that (understandably) cost more than your average latte. The Cloud Latte immediately caught my eye, and I loved that they've mimicked a landscape in a cup. The 'clouds' seemed to be made out of something with a cream cheese consistency - they didn't move around even as I drank the latte. My partner got the lychee carno - I wouldn't have thought that lychee and espresso went well together, but it was a decent drink. We came here on a Sunday to get some work done. Some of the tables here are very small - we needed one per person, and then drinks had to go on a third table / on the bench beside us. We also wanted to try the Smoked Salmon Croffle, but they were unfortunately sold out. Staff were super nice throughout, and overall I really liked the atmosphere at this café.

Plearn cafe is such a cute cafe! From the menu to the decorations and interior layout of the place, it is so thoughtfully constructed and has a lot of cute details. All the drinks were really yummy. The cloud latte had butterfly pea and matcha and the matcha tasted so smooth and blended really well together. All of the drinks are really aesthetic and this place is definitely a good one to relax at.

It seems like this place is better known for their non-caffeinated drinks, since what I tried from their coffee menu was very underwhelming. Their plearn basically tasted like milk topped with frothed instant coffee. I'd perhaps give their drinks a try if I'm in the area again, hopefully they taste as good as they look.

This is a café near TMU (formerly Ryerson University). It is located on the second floor of a building. There is a large patio space in the back. Pros: + Large variety of specialty drinks. + Large outdoor space / seating. Cons: - It's a bit loud. - Doesn't appear to be wheelchair accessible. - Expensive. - Drinks are meh. The matcha latte I got was not sifted well and had chunks in it.

I love Plearn. Not only are the drinks delicious and cute, but the barista is soo nice. He was very kind and expertly crafted each of our drinks. My favorite was the Cloud Latte - the matcha paired nicely with the butterfly pea and it was gorgeous to look at. Plearn is perfect for studying too - they offer plenty of tables, free wifi, and an adorable interior.

I came for a change of scenery for work and also to get some reading done. It's a cozy and unassuming cafe that's suitable for studying, working, reading, or catching up with friends! I was surprised by how many seats they have, given the small store front. The secret? Multiple small round tables. Very smart!!! They have quite a menu, spanning from good ol' espresso to innovative Toron-Ta-Ro. It gives enough choices to pick from for sure. Not all of their drinks are espresso-based so it's also suitable for non-coffee drinkers. The baristas were very friendly and helpful in giving suggestions as well. I started simple with Plearn, and it was delicious. It was very creamy, yet balanced. For my second tound I went with the coconut latte. It was a little on the sweeter side for me, tho maybe if asked, they would be able to reduce the sweetness? I shall ask next time! Definitely coming back to try their artsy drinks since I didn't get to this time :D Food wise, they serve some baked goods like cookies and brownies, but they also have savory meals like curry, noodles, and croffle. I had their peanut curry chicken for lunch, and it was very peanuty in a great way! This dish somehow reminded me of a Massaman curry. The one little "downside" of the place would be its price point for the size of drinks, its higher than other independent cafes. Other than that nothing but great things to say about Plearn!

We got a matcha latte with oat milk, cappuccino, and the breakfast sandwich w smoked salmon (forgot the name). Matcha latte was great, I loved that they clarified whether I wanted sweetened or unsweetened. Sometimes cafes serve them sweetened without me realizing. It's not super crazy high quality but it's definitely better than most cafes. I only had a sip of the cappuccino but I could tell my mom didn't love it. It's just on the fruitier side so it tasted more sour and not creamy/smooth (which is what my mom prefers). Depends on your preference. She really liked the latte art though and didn't want to ruin it by drinking it! The sandwich was big and delicious. There's a hint of dill flavor which paired well with the salmon. I could tell my mom liked it. The cafe itself has a few tables and high top counter seating, as well as seating outside. There's two restrooms in the back. They seem to bake everything in house and it smelled wonderful as they brought stuff out the oven. Loved the all female staff!

This coffee shop is nestled semi-behind a pillar beside the lobby of the Intercontinental hotel Toronto, which adds to its charm for me, in a way. Love finding a good "hole in the wall" :) I love the bright, feminine, beachy decor and coral pink & aqua blue accents. It's not too tropical, but it definitely transports you outside of Canada. Coupled with Aussie staples like vegemite and Noosa magazines (takes me straight back there!), as well as gorgeous ceramic coffee mugs for purchase, the vibes are great here. While it is a smaller shop, there is enough seating for 3 tables, and it's very cozy. Had to go for a flat white, given the Aussie homage here. This one got my approval (and I'm picky about my flat whites) - they used a lighter, more balanced espresso roast, paired with just the right amount of creamy frothed milk. They also had a banana bread latte that my companion really enjoyed too! Looking forward to my next visit!

It's nice that they are open early-ish at 7am, though even a little bit earlier might be nice. The coffee is alright. The heart they draw for warm lattes is cute. Never tried an Aussie coffee brand before -- heard that they have high coffee standards there, but tbh couldn't really tell a difference. Maybe I'm just not a fan of fruity/sour beans. Can't say I get the hype, and quite overpriced too at $7-8+ for coffees. Guess it's the location and rent. It's better than Starbucks, but I don't think that is saying much. I do like that they have vegemite pastry, which you won't see at other places! Nice Australian touch.
