Even though it's a bit of a drive, this is my go-to place for canoeing and kayaking…read more It's just SO cheap compared to all the places further north, which are double or triple the price for less time on the river. We take the 14 mile trip, which essentially works itself out for $25 a person. The canoes and kayaks are a little older, the vans are older, they might not clean the life jackets super often, but it's a kickass time! But honestly, who cares! You're going to get dirty and sweaty canoeing or kayaking down the river. You really cannot beat the price for the experience. There's a lot less litter on the river compared to when I've went further north, less cars, and you are surrounded by corn fields. The river is simply beautiful and relaxing. It depends on the weekend whether or not there will be a lot of people - not many people do the 14 mile trip, so the first 7 miles of that are peaceful. After you hit the 7 mile mark, there tends to be a lot more people, as that's what most people take. 14 miles takes around 4-5 hours (or 6, depends on how much or little you're paddling, speed of the river, etc) , and 7 miles takes about half that. They also aren't strict at all on what you can bring/drink on the river, or if you need to stop, or anything else. In addition, if you do flip, the water level is 3 feet at most along the river. Just make sure to call ahead if it has been raining recently. I would recommend taking a trip out here out to the middle of nowhere to spend a summer day. It's a ton of fun and a good way to build teamwork trying not to flip a canoe or kayak.

Lines were far shorter than at other liveries, but they "ran out" of inventory around 11am on a…read moreSaturday, leaving people to wait over an hour in the hot sun. Not clear how that happens when they still have dozens of canoes on the racks in storage. Should let people pay and reserve, then come back later.

I recently purchased a used Pontoon boat with an I/O motor. As you learn when you buy a used boat,…read moreyou are going to need maintenance. It is very hard to find people you trust to do the work. It is also difficult to find someone to work on an I/O motor. I can't say enough wonderful things about a couple of Pier 36's boat mechanics (Caleb and Daniel). I could tell the minute I met Caleb that he knew what he was doing and had lots of experience. I needed my bellows replaced and he took the time to make sure everything was fine with my boat after the work was finished and we put it back in the lake. He even called me a couple days after he did the work to make sure everything was okay (great customer service in my opinion). Caleb and Daniel also replaced my ignition switch because the starter was engaging when I switched from forward to reverse which caused a terrible grinding noice. Caleb also adjusted some cables and now my shifter lever is smoother than ever. I am very pleased with the service I have received and I highly recommend Pier 36

I had my boat repaired for $855 by Pier 36 Marina in the fall. After I was told that it had been…read morerepaired, I took it home and stored it in my barn. I put it in the water for the 1st time on June 20, 2020 and immediately discovered that the boat's engine was performing exactly as it had when I took it to Pier 36 Marina originally. I telephoned Scott Endree, owner of Pier 36 Marina, twice and he refused my calls. I have since discovered that I am not the only one to have had a poor experience with Pier 36 Marina since Scott Endree purchased the business in September 2018. A better choice for a full service marina in the area would be Apple Valley Marina. It has a solid reputation and is located on the north end of Apple Valley Lake.
