All patrons must sit inside the car until May 20, 2020 The concessions are open & they have one window for ordering & one is for pick up with 6 foot distancing markers in place. One person at a time allowed in the restroom. The line forms outside the door with 6 foot distancing markers in place. They've taken all the necessary measures to keep people safe during the pandemic. It's such a charming location & a great way to get out of the house with family. We will be back!! read more

The new digital projector seems to have made a big difference in picture quality. It's still not the biggest screen in the world (and the angle could be challenging for people in low-to-the-ground vehicles), but I had no problem seeing the movies when we visited. Maybe I'm nostalgic. Where else can you see two movies under the stars, drinking root beer and eating onion rings? It's one of those Americana experiences that is rapidly disappearing. And i, for one, hope that the Pleasant Valley Drive-In lasts for many more summers to come!! read more

Not a bad place and only a few left of the kind, but today we went to watch the movie, but it was sold out one hr before the show for SUVs. My 9 yr old was upset and asked me why can't we take a chair and sit without the car. I told her to ask the person on the ticket counter herself. The women working on May 24, 2020, screamed so loudly at us, saying we should be ashamed of ourselves, asking my kids to ask this question. I don't get it! My daughter was asking me, and I asked her to ask herself, and it was a fair question. She almost traumatized my daughter. My daughter cried on the way back, saying that kids are human too. Being polite is not too much to expect. Yelling to a small kid for any reason is acceptable. read more

I thought this place was a blast! I came on a Thursday night with a girlfriend when it was carload night. This means your car gets in for $20 and all the people inside too (with a max number of ppl obviously). Carload night also means a ZILLION kids are running around. If you don't love kids, then don't go on a carload night. The screen is fairly small, but the projector is really good! It's pretty high def and I had no issues with clarity. Bring a picnic, bring some bug spray (for reals tho) and bring some friends. This place is awesome. I wish I knew about it earlier!!! read more

Pleasant Valley Drive-In - The view from the third tier up! - Cinema Near Me - Barkhamsted, Connecticut

We were eager to go to the drive in movie with everything closed due to the pandemic. Drove an hour to get there, to find the guy managing (poorly) traffic coming in wasn't wearing a mask or practicing good social hygiene and social distancing. Further, we waiting 20+ minutes to get in but hadn't moved at all due to how poorly they were managing the traffic flow. From what we could see of folks who had made it in, they weren't following the social distancing and fask mask rules either. We decided to turn around and go home rather than take the risk, assuming we would have ever gotten in. I hooe they are able to improve traffic flow (online ticket sales would help) and get their employees at least to follow the proper health and safety guidelines in the future. But for us, we won't be making this trip out again. read more

PROS: An open drive in is better than no drive in at all, and let's face it, there ain't much going on in Barkhamsted, CT or in the whole area for that matter. CONS: 1) Screen is tiny, so unless you are right up front, you are better off watching the movie on your cell phone. 2) Sound is horrible. There was a hissing/crackling noise the whole time and turning up the volume only amplified the interference. 3) Food was gross. They probably haven't ever changed the oil in the deep fryer. The onion rings tasted like motor oil and the mozzarella sticks tasted like the onion rings. 4) Service. I didn't mean to interrupt the 4 teenagers talking to each other and checking their cell phones when I was standing there waiting to order. My apologies to them. read more

I can forgive most issues others mentioned if the projection is adequate. Unfortunately, our experience watching Despicable Me 2 was less than ideal. Alternating brightness. Blurriness. And *every* reel change was screwed up. Don't get me wrong... the whole family got in for $16 so it was very economical. But I'm not sure I would go there again. read more

I've been going to this Drive-In every summer since their digital projection upgrade, it's amazing. They get first run movies, they have a great (and reasonably priced) concessions stand, and the staff is always very kind, polite, friendly, and pleasant. The projection system that they've upgraded to, is wonderful, bright and clear. It's still certainly no IMAX or even any of the upgraded digital projections in other local theaters, but that's not the point. The beauty of the drive in is being able to sit with your friends and family outside on a summer night watching a good movie surrounded by a full lot of other people doing the same thing. It's like a respectful (and fortunately quiet during the movie) barbecue that includes great movies. Kid friendly and safe, well maintained grounds, great movies, tremendous pricing, and a wonderful experience. Please don't let the other negative Yelp reviews sway your decision, if you're considering going, this is the drive-in you're looking for. This was a nice experience given the current situation (covid19). Cost is ok. However, it could use a lot more structure. It would be great if they number each space and you can reserve or buy ahead. Otherwise you need to be there 1-2 hours ahead of schedule in order to find a space. They get low starts because none of their employees wear masks and not following social distancing, including the one at the entry boot. read more

Wonderful! Totally recommended! It's a time machine. It's vintage and it's awesome. We had a great time! 1.COVID? Most staffers wore masks. Capacity is reduced 50%. Bathrooms are one at a time. Food orders and pick up are 9 feet separated. You stay in your car, or sit in front of it. 2. Rude Staff? We had a totally friendly visit. The man at the entrance personally thanked every car for their patience, made conversation, and gave some history of the place. The lady at the ticket booth got 6 cars in in less than 5 minutes. 3. Facilities? No, no reserved spaces. It's a field. Yes, the bathrooms are 1950's. This is a small, family owned 1950's set up. Yay! That's fun! I don't go to a diner and expect nouvelle cuisine. Beautiful setting and so glad that they're open right now during the current pandemic. However, I am writing this review because of how incredibly rude the woman at the entrance collecting money is. I have a very high tolerance for people and their behavior, but she went above that threshold. If you can't be a kind person, don't work in a job where you're interacting with the public. This is a great way to watch a movie during the summer. This place is simple, cheap and has some old charm to it. You can bring some lawn chairs with you to set next to your car and can bring your own beer/wine. For the price, you can't beat the double feature. Definitely worth checking out. read more

We went to Spiderman and Ted on 7/14/2012. We had a great time and for the price, it was a great deal. Down the road in Simsbury I figure seeing both movies would have been $21 per person, for 2 adults the drive in was $16 total (we saved $26 between the 2 of us). Also, having grown up going to the drive in I realized going in that the darker parts of movies are harder to see but don't feel like it affected the movie at all-- we still understood what was going on and had a great time. As far as the audio goes- we sat outside the car with the radio on in the car and had NO problem hearing. Also, we drove out of the theatre with the music playing most of the way to rt 44 so I can't imagine there would be a problem in other parts of the lot but maybe. Overall, we had a great time and will ABSOLUTELY be going back (with our dogs which we found out you can bring dogs as long as they're on leashes!!). read more

What a joke. $21 for 2 movies that we couldn't even see. The screen was so small & so shitty it was like watching a movie on one of those 1980's view finders. If you remember the screen from the Hartford drive-in, think about 8x smaller. The audio cut in and out. The whole operation is run by a crack squad of 16 year olds who don't care and they're just riding it out till the place crashes & burns. Tiny screen with terrible video quality. The movie we went to see had a number of subtitles and we couldn't read them which made the movie confusing to understand. In addition they kept changing the brightness of the screen, which was just extremely distracting.. Figure out how to use your screen!! TERRIBLE customer service - staff was EXTREMELY rude! When the movie ended, staff were yelling at you to get out because they wanted to go home and apparently we were wasting their time. The movie had just ended and we were only packing up our stuff,but I guess we were taking too long. The. The have the audacity to pass out "save our drive-in paraphernalia"... Doesn't seem to me like its worth saving. If you want a nice night outdoors watching a movie, definitely go to the drive-in in Mansfield instead! read more

Update for the 2014 season: The old WW II salvage projectors were replaced with state-of-the-art digital projectors. The movies are BRIGHT AND CLEAR - absolutely a night-and-day difference from the old projectors. Admission prices went up for adults ($10), but it's well worth the small increase for the dramatic improvement in the picture. Can't understand people who complain about the audio - it's transmitted over FM 87.9, so any volume or clarity issues are with your radio. We use a $20 transistor radio when we sit in chairs outside the car, and the sound quality is excellent. read more

Not much to do in the area? Do your research! Make a day of it and bring your own tubes and hit the river right up the road in peoples forest. Have a picnic and try your hand at fishing or even go blue berrie picking before the movie. Take a hike! Research some of the great fall trails in the area. Get in shape and bring your bike to bike the river road from pleasant valley to riverton. Dont have a bike rent one at the Riverton store. VIST the hidden hogsback dam. BEAUTIFaUL! Don't go. At least not until they get a new projector. They have some "rod" technology that is super out of date. Like a VHS tape. The staff said they are proud to be the last drive in with the rod -dinosaur- projector. YOU cannot see the movie! I don't know how the place stays in business? I'd love to buy them a new projector. It's a great spot and I love to see all the families there. But that's all I see. BTW. I have 20/20 with no vision problems. I pray they upgrade the projector. Until then - don't go. It's that bad... I have been going to the Pleasant Valley Drive-In since I was a kid and hope it stays around for years to come! This drive-in gives you a fun alternative to watching a movie, where you can snuggle up in the comfort of your vehicle and watch on the big screen. Granted, it's an old-fashioned drive-in, but they recently upgraded to digital (yahoo!) so the quality is just fine. We've never had a problem with seeing the screen clearly unless someone pulls up in front and opens their hatch of their SUV. It's a great deal and a fun experience! read more

Went here 7/8/2012 Sunday nite for Brave and Amazing Spiderman. I don't like the audio system as it always has backgroung hiss coming through the radio. Just like the other reviewer here said, the movie Brave was too dark throughout most of the film. The reel changes were annoying and so movie was just passable to watch. Decided not to stay for Spider-man. If anyone stayed let me know if it got better. I went here 2 years ago and it appears to be getting worse. It is a nice place and I hope it gets better read more

Really? The pleasant valley drive-in is just that; a pleasant, simple throwback to the days when drive-in's were everywhere& families "did stuff" together. The screen is fine this season, having been freshly repainted-and the sound is as good a quality as your vehicle's stereo-no interference experienced. The snack bar has that old- fashioned look unique to old New England-the food inside is pretty decent for the movies-each item I've ordered was better than the menu items @ my local big-box theater. This is the kind of place to take the kids+some of their friends after a day of recreation in northwest Connecticut: trust me its' the film they'll all be talking about that week!
