When instructors frequently change, there seems to be very little continuity or understanding of where a child stands, what they have already mastered, and what they specifically need to work on next. My daughter has now been at essentially the same point for about two quarters, and I have seen very little effort to identify what is holding her back or provide the focused coaching she needs to progress. What was even more disappointing was my interaction with the manager. I approached him hoping to discuss my concerns about a particular lesson. Before I could even fully explain what I had observed, his immediate response was, "Oh, that one is our best instructor." Whether an instructor is considered one of the best was not the point of my concern. My concern was what was actually happening during my daughter's lesson. The instructor appeared unable to give adequate attention to three children in the class, and I observed very little instruction, correction, or specific guidance being given to my daughter to help her improve. As a parent, I wasn't looking for the manager to defend or criticize an instructor. I was looking for him to listen, understand the concern, and offer a solution. Unfortunately, I walked away without any resolution, follow-up, or offer of help. After three years of loyalty, this is incredibly frustrating. Parents bring their children to swim lessons expecting more than supervision in the pool. We expect active coaching, feedback, consistency, and measurable development. I sincerely hope American Swim Academy takes concerns like these seriously and focuses on better continuity between instructors, individualized coaching, and stronger accountability for each child's progress. Most importantly, when a parent raises a genuine concern, I hope management takes the time to listen before dismissing it.

Mr Keiths schedule books quickly in warm months and my 5 star wouldn't help me so much in securing my kids desired swim slots. No.. but really, Keith is nothing short of AMAZING. He is punctual, reliable, honest, flexible as can be for the most sought after swim lessons in the East Bay Area. He has a natural way of interacting with kids, he gets on their level. Maybe cause he is just like a big kid himself. but Keith really knows how to teach hard concepts and break it down for young minds so they truly understand, learn and grow when applying skills. Keith's own enthusiastic and playful nature combined with instructing in a approachable way attracts the attention of little ones. Despite his childlike teaching style, he consistently sets firm expectations and provides gentle feedback when needed that foster motivation and encourage kids to do their best, truly maximizing every minute of a short swim lesson. I have seen tremendous growth in both my kids with Mr Keith. I will never be going back to a local swim school. That was just a waste of money and pool playtime with friends. Severe Safety Hazard - Poor Maintenance on Tennis Court Nets…read more The maintenance of the indoor tennis court side nets at Bay Club Pleasanton is unacceptable and poses a major safety risk to players. The side divider nets have multiple large tears and holes. When running down wide-angle shots, players run the risk of getting hands, racquets, or feet snagged. Tonight around 7:36 PM on Court 5, my shoe got caught in one of these holes while I was moving near the side net. I lost my balance and fell hard, scraping my arm and hand while my shoe remained stuck in the net. Just last week, I witnessed another player catch their hand in a separate hole in the net and end up bleeding. Additionally, the heavy black bottom edging of the nets drags loosely on the court surface, creating an extra tripping and slipping hazard. Management urgently needs to repair or replace these divider nets before someone suffers a more severe injury. I am attaching photos showing the exact holes and hazards mentioned.

Instructors were good but weren't able to pay as much attention as we would have liked because there were a lot of students and classes were 45 minutes each from Monday through Friday. Nevertheless, by the end of the two weeks, she was competent in freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke and sidestroke! And that has made us parents a lot more comfortable sending her to pool parties. Strongly recommend this if you have a child or adult learning to swim.

A couple of suggestions. Read the rules. It is clear that outside food or drink are not allowed. Neither are street clothes, as they are a safety hazard in public or shared pools. If people sneak stuff in without the staff knowing, then that is on them. I have seen people be asked to leave for sneaking alcohol in. I have never seen the staff there demand anyone throw anything away. They offer to let you walk it back to your car. Again, had you read the rules, you would have known this. In order to keep facilities like these affordable, the rules must be enforced. The insurance rates will sky rocket when there are claims because someone got hurt by a drunk patron. I used to work in Government, and this is the case with all facilities. Also, the wave has a lot of young people working there in their first job. They are learning how to work and be adults, show them some kindness. Lastly, please take an English class. As a Hispanic, I have worked hard to overcome people's negative viewpoints about us being uneducated and ignorant. Your review doesn't help in that regard.

Here is a completely analytical view of why this place is one of the worst when it comes to teaching kids how to swim. By the way, for context, this review is for kids learning in the age range of 5 to 7. 1. Instructors - Some of the instructors are very good but they don't seem to stay for long with the organization. Other instructors genuinely should not be allowed to instruct kids as they do not have the temperament or the ability to establish rapport with the kids of this age range to teach them. Some of the instructors also tend to focus more on their favorite kids and spend higher than average amount of time with them rather than spend equal amount of time with all the kids. 2. Consistency of instructors - Considering the churn of good instructors, the kids do not get consistency of instructors which affects them in multiple ways - (a) The rapport built by the previous instructor is gone and the new instructor may not be good at establishing rapport, and (b) the assessment of the skill level of the kid varies significantly from one instructor to another, (c) the instruction methodology varies wildly among instructors due to which it was impossible for the kid to follow the instructions. When we brought up this concern, the manager's response was "life happens, we can't do much about it". We agree that life happens but this level of churn is unbelievable. Our kid had 8 instructors in a span of 15 months. 3. Consistency of skill level assessment - At the end of the day, it was clear that this was nothing more than a subscription business where they want you to be subscribed for as long as possible without sufficient focus on developing the skill of the kids. At the end of each class, there was supposed to be skill assessment and update to their chart. This process DID NOT happen consistently or at all. When we pointed it out a couple of times, they would do the assessment and send update emails for a couple of weeks, and then the process would stop again. Generally, their operations is so relaxed that they don't follow any of these processes consistently. 4. Horrible policies - They have a policy of not providing make up class for a make up class. Let me explain a bit more. A few times, they canceled the class due to unavoidable circumstances. They allowed us to schedule a make up. On the day of the make up, the kid fell sick. We were not allowed to schedule a make up for this make up class even though the reason for the first make up class was them canceling the class in the first place. Due to their policy, they said they cannot allow us to schedule a make up class. In other words, they feel perfectly fine with charging you money without actually conducting the class. So much for ethics! 5. Instruction methodology - Their instruction methodology is focused on teaching you multiple swimming strokes at once which makes no sense. First of all, for survival, it is accepted practice to focus on one stroke, make sure they perfect it and then move on to the next one. However, I am not sure if they are scared that if a kid learns a stroke, given that they have learned the basic survival skills, they may not stay in the class anymore. So, they focus on multiple strokes all at the same time. With the instructor churn involved, they make it impossible for kids to learn fast enough. 6. Lack of communication - There were changes to instructors in the last minute due to the absence of their assigned instructor. Now, this wouldn't bother us as much if this was a rare occurrence. However, in our case, this was a consistent occurrence. It is bad enough to see churn of instructors but it was even worse to see primary instructors being absent often to cause change of instructors. Their philosophy seems to be "we are a team, any of can teach" without any concern about whether the kid would be fine with a new instructor or their method of teaching. Overall, we were appalled by the practices of this swim school. Our kid made some progress despite all these challenges. However, it was too much of a bad experience to continue our kid in this class. If the management is reading this review, I hope they don't get defensive, take an honest look at their operations and focus on fixing the issues rather than providing a defensive response.

We can spend the whole day there if we have time, and several of my kids' friends usually join. They swim, they eat lunch on the grass, they climb the trees, they play volleyball and tetherball until they're pleasantly worn out.
